Raymond Hoffman Jr.
Raymond John Hoffman Jr., 57, of Naperville died Sunday, April 8, 2001 at home. He was born June 1, 1943, in Oak Park and had been a resident of Naperville for the past nine years after living in West Chicago.
He had been an account representative in sales with the Ideal Box and Graphic Co. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a Detroit Lions football fan and enjoyed dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy (Campbell) Hoffman of Naperville; two sons, Jeffrey (wife Laura) Hoffman of Plainfield and Raymond John (wife Mary) Hoffman III of Crystal Lake; two daughters, Raelynn (husband Shelby) McBride of Streamwood and Michelle (fiancee James Gorman) of Aurora; three grandchildren, John Mark Hoffman of Naperville, Valarie Johnson of Aurora and Delaney Rae Hoffman of Plainfield; and two sisters, Janet (husband Charles) Dick of Lisle and Jane McGraw of Schaumburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond J. and Alma (Hitzmann) Hoffman Sr., and his brother-in-law, Richard McGraw.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, April 11, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home in Naperville.
Interment was at Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park.

James R. Kerr
James R. Kerr, Ph.D., 69, of Glen Carbon died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville. He was born April 30, 1931, in Aurora.
He was employed by Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville as a professor of political science for 27 years, retiring in 1989. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Political Science Association, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Midwest Political Science Association, the American Association of University Professors and Friends of the Lovejoy Library. He was a supporter of Premier Performances and valedictorian at North Central College in Naperville.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Slenczynska) Kerr of Glen Carbon; a sister, Joan (husband George) Fleck of Wailea, Hawaii; and three nephews, Robert, James Thomas and William Fleck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James P. Kerr and Clara H. (Blankenburg) Kerr.
A memorial service took place April 5 at the Religious Center at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
Memorials may be directed to the American Kidney Foundation.
Irwin Chapel of Glen Carbon handled arrangements.

Meyer Gorbatkin
Meyer Gorbatkin, 70, formerly of Chicago and a resident of Bolingbrook since 1974, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at home. He was born June 13, 1930, in Chicago.
He retired from the Chicago Public School District in 1993 after serving as a teacher and vocational counselor for more than 30 years. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in history. An active member of the Bolingbrook and Chicago communities, he enjoyed music and collecting old records. He also was an amateur photographer.
He is survived by his wife, Julie, whom he married in 1959, of Bolingbrook; two sons, Steven (wife Laurie) Gorbatkin of Decatur, Ga., and Stanley (wife Julia Stout-Gorbatkin) Gorbatkin of Oswego; three grandchildren, Chad, Jenna and Olivia Gorbatkin; two sisters, Anna (husband William) Boron of Wilmette and Esther (husband Jack) Frisch of Las Vegas; and his mother-in-law, Lillian Tausz of Bolingbrook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Jeanette Gorbatkin.
Visitation will take place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, where a service will begin at 11 a.m. Rabbi Sidney Helbraun will officiate.
A graveside service will follow at Naperville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Edward Hospital Cancer Center, 801 S. Washington St., Naperville, IL 60540 or CNS Hospice, 690 E. North Ave., Carol Stream, IL 60188-2172.

Walter G. Hansen
Walter G. Hansen, 68, a resident of Henderson, Nev., and former resident of Aurora, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Columbia Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas. He was born June 22, 1932, in Chicago, and had been a resident of Henderson for the past three years.
He was a retired electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134 and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict.
He is survived by his wife, June M. (Williams) Hansen of Henderson; four sons, Joseph and Michael of Henderson, Richard of Chicago and Steven of Downers Grove; a daughter, Kathryn (husband Danny) Davis of Naperville; six grandchildren, Matthew, Alexandria, Jory and Cari Hansen of Bolingbrook and Luke and Sean Davis of Naperville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph William and Elsie (Ludvigsen) Hansen; and a brother, Kenneth Hansen.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 117 W. Van Buren Ave., Naperville.
A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Niemi officiating.
Interment will be at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook.
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association Midwest Affiliate, Dept. 77-3968, Chicago, IL 60678-3968.

Elvira "Vi" Horn
Elvira "Vi" Horn, 76, a resident of Stevens Point, Wis., and former resident of Naperville, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001. She was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Chili, Wis., to the late William and Mary (Drescher) Lindow.
She attended grade schools in Chili and graduated from Marshfield High School. She attended Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1946. After college, she taught high school English in Westfield, Columbus and Auburndale, Wis., and Rockford. After moving to Stevens Point, she was a substitute teacher at McDill Grade School. While in Naperville, the Horns were active members of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir.
She is survived by her husband, Rudolph A. Horn, whom she married May 31, 1946; a son, Gregory (wife Kathleen) Horn of Littleton, Colo.; a granddaughter, Lindsay; and a grandson, Kevin.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Boston Funeral Home, 1649 Briggs St., Stevens Point.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stevens Point. The Rev. David Maxfield and the Rev. Kenneth Knutson will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
Cremation and burial of her ashes will follow at Forest Cemetery.
Memorials are established in her name for Trinity Lutheran Church; World Hunger through the church; and the Cancer Support Group at St. Michaels Hospital.

Jean Peich
Jean Peich, 86, of Plainfield, died at home on Wednesday, March 28, 2001. She was born Dec. 28, 1914, in Chicago.
She worked as a color consultant for Clairol.
She was preceded in death by son Frank DeLuca; and stepdaughter Vicky Glascock.
She is survived by husband, Melvin; daughter, Barbara (Mrs. Terry) Notko; stepchildren, Michael (wife Dianne) and Charlie (wife Crae) Peich, and Chris Kidd; grandchildren, Ken (wife Lynne), Kevin, Kristin (husband Victor), Brooke, Brent, Alyse, John (wife Wendy) and Jeff (wife Leila).
A funeral Mass was held Saturday, March 31, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Darien. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials to St. Thomas Hospice in Burr Ridge or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
Hallowell and James Funeral Home in Downers Grove handled the funeral arrangements.

John W. Phillipp
John W. Phillipp, 92, a Naperville resident since 1989 and formerly of Chicago and Palm Harbor, Fla., died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at home. He was born Oct. 9, 1908, in Chicago.
He was raised on Chicago's South Side. He was a supervisor with Swift and Co. in Chicago for 40 years. He and his wife, Emily, moved to Palm Harbor, Fla., in 1978, and stayed there until coming to Naperville in 1989. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Naperville.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years; two children, John (wife Rozanne) Phillipp of Plainfield and Barbara (husband Herbert) Sass of Naperville; six grandchildren, John (wife Lisa) Phillipp, Michael and Steven Phillipp and Elizabeth, Matthew and Katie Sass; two greatgrandchildren, John Phillipp V and Chelsea Phillipp; two brothers, Albert (wife Elsie) Phillipp and Joseph Phillipp, both of Orland Park; a sister, Viola Phillipp of Orland Park; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Theresa Phillipp; and four siblings, Wilma, Harry and Edward Phillip and Caroline Dickeson.
A funeral service was held Saturday, March 31, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1550 Modaff Road, Naperville.
Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens South in Worth.
Memorials may be directed to the Bethany Lutheran Church Building Fund, 1550 Modaff Road, Naperville, IL 60565.

LaVerne W. Jackson
LaVerne W. Jackson, 81, of Naperville died Friday, April 27, 2001, at his home. He was born in Symerton on June 24, 1919.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until December 1945, serving in Germany, France, England, Scotland, Belgium, Holland and Switzerland. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Judd-Kendall Post 3873in Naperville. He had belonged to Local 1889 of the Carpenters union since 1946 and was a member of St. John United Church of Christ. He was a devoted, compassionate, thoughtful husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Clara (Hageman) Jackson of Naperville; a daughter, Eilleen of Naperville; a sister, Arlene Schaal of Wilmington; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Una (Hoffman) Jackson; a sister, Frances Burmaster; two brothers, Edward and Raymond Jackson; and two brothers-in-law, Kirk Burmaster and Leslie Schaal.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at St. John United Church of Christ, 1190 Olesen Lane, Naperville, with the Rev. Robert McWilliams officiating.
Interment will take place at Naperville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John United Church of Christ, 1190 Olesen Lane, Naperville, IL 60540; or St. Thomas Hospice, 8230 S. Madison St., Burr Ridge, IL 60521.

John Joseph Kane
John Joseph Kane, 84, a resident of Aurora and former resident of Chicago, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, in Roswell, Ga.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was retired from the Chicago Transit Authority.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Roswell, Ga.; two daughters, Sharon Louder of Roswell and Karen Lehocky of Naperville; a son, Lawrence Kane of Madison, Wis.; three grandchildren; a sister, Kate Walsh of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at St. Raphael Church, 1215 Modaff Road, Naperville, preceded by a visitation beginning at 9 a.m. The Rev. William Donnelly will officiate.
Interment will take place at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Thomas Hospice, 8230 S. Madison St., Burr Ridge, IL 60521.
