James Albert Riedy
James Albert Riedy, 70, a longtime resident of Lisle, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Rest Haven West-Downers Grove. He was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Aurora.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Naperville Moose Lodge 1290 and Ross Bishop Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Lisle and was former owner of Southtown Garage in Lisle.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann; three daughters, Cindy Garcia of Bolingbrook, Sandy (husband Steve) Gregg of LaGrange and Donna (husband Tom) Usborn of Lisle; six grandchildren, Paul, Robin, Richard, Samantha, Greg and Sophia; two sisters, Joyce Mlyniec of Lisle and Susan Sczech of Naperville; his stepmother, Elsie Riedy of Naperville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lillian Riedy, and a brother, Richard Riedy.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at St. Joan of Arc Church in Lisle. Interment will be private.

John R. Shimp
John R. Shimp, 84, of Naperville died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Community Healthcare Center in Naperville. He was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Naperville.
He served on the Naperville Fire Department as a lieutenant until his retirement in 1978. He was a bonded electrician and a handyman. He was a member of the Naperville Moose Lodge, raised tropical fish and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by eight children, Jonelle I. (husband Ridgway) Nuttall of Naperville, Curtis L. (wife Cindy) Shimp of Berryville, Va., Larry K. (wife Joan) Shimp of Cottage Grove, Ore., Leda R. Haidu of Appleton, Wis., Sylvia C. (husband I. Edward) Mitchell of Festus, Mo., J. Randall (wife Kathy) Shimp of Friendswood, Texas, Debra E. (husband William) Mennell of Warrenville and Lauri L. (husband James) Sieben of Wheaton; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen J. Houghtby of South Bend, Ind., and Leona R. Moeller of Oswego.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta (Putt); two brothers, Sheriff Wayne Shimp and Homer Shimp; four sisters, Margaret Yanke, Dorothy Minton, Erma Markasich and Beryl Enck; and a son-in-law, Jack Haidu.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A funeral service and interment at Naperville Cemetery will be private.

Charles L. Kreml
Charles L. Kreml, 82, of Hatfield, Wis., and formerly of Downers Grove, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Kreml of Hatfield; a son, Charles (wife Sandra) Kreml of Naperville; a daughter, Pamela (husband Alan) Hartigan; and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Alan and Kayleigh.

Harry S. Kusmer
Harry S. Kusmer, 82, a 13-year resident of Warrenville and former resident of West Chicago, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8081 of Warrenville. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, whom he married 60 years ago on Feb. 15; two children, Ray (wife Judie) Kusmer and Beverly (husband Robert) Forsythe; four grandchildren, Jim Rheintgen, Mia Richey, Lisa Breen and Chuck Rheintgen; six great-grandchildren, Lauren, Samantha, Nicholas, Dillon, Rachel and Emma; and two sisters, Frances Mionske and Bernice Pietrzyk.
A Mass took place Saturday, April 28, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville.
Burial took place at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.

Stella Warczak
Stella R. Warczak, 71, a longtime resident of Bonita Springs, Fla., and formerly of Lisle, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Naples, Fla. She was born June 3, 1929, in Chicago.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; a daughter, Nancy (husband Charles) Rishel of Bolingbrook; three grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew and Sarah; and a brother, Richard (wife Carol) Moskal of Lisle.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Stella Gorecki, and a sister, Dorothy Fast.
A Mass of Christian burial took place at St. Joan of Arc Church in Lisle. Entombment was at Resurrection Garden Mausoleum.
Laura C. Young
Laura Christine Young, 20, of Naperville was tragically killed in a train accident in Downers Grove on Saturday, March 31, 2001. She was born June 8, 1980, in Creve Coeur, Mo., and had been a resident of Naperville since 1988.
She was a 1998 graduate of Naperville Central High School. She was attending Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, working on a teaching degree. She attended College of DuPage before enrolling at NIU. She was a very active member of the Naperville Christian Church, where she served the Lord in her music and went on church missions to Mexico twice and Ireland once.
She is survived by her parents, D. Wayne Young of Bridgeton, Mo., and Annette (Warren) Slodowske of Naperville; a sister, Lynnette Young of Downers Grove; a brother, Michael Young of Lisle; her maternal grandmother, Georgia Morris of Annapolis, Mo.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation was held Wednesday, April 4, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home in Naperville. A funeral service and interment were held in Missouri.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Naperville Christian Church, 25W530 75th St., Naperville.

Edna M. Bartosek
Edna M. Bartosek, 91, a Downers Grove resident since 1955, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at ManorCare in Hinsdale.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joan of Arc parish in Lisle.
She is survived by her children, Bruce Bartosek of Chicago, Judy Duhai of Westmont and Richard Bartosek of Prairie, Texas; three grandchildren, Jennifer Kukulka and Kelly and Chris; and a great-grandson, Alexander.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Bartosek.
A memorial Mass was held Friday, March 30, at St. Joan of Arch Church in Lisle.

Mary J. Oman
Mary J. (Shields) Oman, 77, of Naperville died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Meadowbrook Manor of Naperville. She was born March 22, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo.
She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from St. Aloyissus High School. She married William V. Oman during World War II and they raised their family in Shawnee, Kan. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Lisle and a former member of St. Joseph Church in Shawnee.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith Cathryn Oman of Lisle and Sharon O. (husband Koorosh) Jamalpur of Naperville; five grandchildren, Andrea and Eric Readus of Lisle, Loraine and Anthony Jamalpur of Naperville and David C. Jamalpur of San Diego; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Martin of Shawnee and Loretta Theresa (husband Nicholas) Macaluso of Lenexa, Kan.; a brother, Walter Shields of Shawnee; an aunt, Elizabeth Cedar of Kansas City; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Walter and Mary (Cedar) Shields; and two sisters, Margaret and Helen Shields.

George Edward Crosby
George Edward Crosby, 81, of Wheaton died Monday, April 2, 2001, at home. He was born April 4, 1919, in Lena, S.C., the fifth child of George Sr. and Emma Peeples Crosby.
He entered the U.S. Army at age 16 and served in Panama. During World War II, he served with the Merrills Marauders in the CBI Theater in China, Burma and India. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a corrosion engineer for Nicor Gas and retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Warrenville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8088.
He is survived by his wife, June (Miller); three daughters, Bunny (husband Jesse) Chavez, Margie (husband Terry) Pierce and Jody (husband John) Selenica; two sons, William (wife Denise) and Curt (wife Amy) Crosby; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton.
A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at the funeral home and proceed to Peace Lutheran Church, 21W500 Butterfield Road, Lombard, for an 11 a.m. service. Pastor Duane Feldman will officiate.
Interment will be at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Christy E. Elfstrom
Christy E. Elfstrom, 98, a Wheaton resident since 1996, died Sunday, March 25, 2001. She was born Sept. 19, 1902, in Badger, Iowa. Until spring 1996, she lived most of her life in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She is survived by a son, Donald (wife Marjorie); four grandchildren, Kristin (husband Craig) Tiernan of Dubuque, Iowa, Rebecca (husband Douglas) Slagell of Hampshire and Eric (wife Kelly) Elfstrom and David (wife Cheryl) Elfstrom, both of West Chicago; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death in 1995 by her husband of 68 years, Wendell O. Elfstrom, and a 4-year-old son, David, in 1943.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 802 E. Geneva Road, Wheaton,
