Earl S. Garman
Funeral services for Earl S. Garman, 82, of Arlington Heights, were held June 13 at the Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., Arlington Heights. born Sept. 24, 1920, in Memphis, Tenn., he died June 9, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Garman was an electronics salesman for many years and was employed by Tri-State Electronics in Mount Prospect, before he retired. He was a veteran who served with Battery C 198th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion in the Pacific Theater. He was member of the National World War II Monument Committee. In addition, he was an avid bowler, golfer and former member of the Skokie Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
Mr. Garman is survived by his wife, Eve (nee Suarez), whom he married Nov. 17, 1956; three children, Linda (Bob) Hanaford of Barrington; Lori of Chicago and Mike (Elizabeth Chilsen) of Forest Park; and three grandchildren, Danielle, Bobby and Alexa.
Interment was private. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager, Barrington IL 60010.
Nancy P. Hansa
Graveside services for Nancy P. Hansa (nee Whelan), 67, of Arlington Heights, were held June 18 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights. born March 8, 1936, in Chicago, she died June 14, 2003 at her home.
Mrs. Hansa is survived by her husband of 44 years, William, whom she married Nov. 22, 1958; her children, William (Patricia) of Brookfield, Robert of Arlington Heights, John (Diane) of Bollingbrook and Brian (Julie) of Waukegan; her grandchildren, Michael, Billy, Jack, Claire, Audrey and Lucas; her brother, Warren (Dolores) Whelan of California; and her mother, Genevieve Whelan of Arlington Heights.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Whelan.
Arrangements were made with the Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., Arlington Heights.
Daniel J. Redel
A funeral Mass for Daniel J. Redel, 17, of Arlington Heights, was celebrated June 17 at St. James Church, Arlington Heights. born April 14, 1986, in Maywood, he died June 13, 2003 at Holy Family Medical Center, Des Plaines.
Dan had just completed his junior year at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. He is survived by his parents, Robert C. and Kathleen (nee Houlihan) of Arlington Heights; six siblings, Robert C. Jr. (Lisa) of DeKalb, Dawn M. (Martin) Avellaneda of Rolling Meadows, Michael P. of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Anthony J. (Maria) of Carpentersville, and Timothy R. and Ryan M. of Arlington Heights; his grandparents, Muriel Houlihan (the late John) and Robert W. (the late Doris and Rita) Redel; five nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Burial was in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Arrangements were made with Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, Arlington Heights.
Clara A. Roy
Funeral services for Clara A. Roy (nee Szarzynski), 81, of Arlington Heights, were held June 16 at Montrose Cemetery Chapel, Chicago. born Jan. 14, 1922, in Chicago, she died June 11, 2003 at Resurrection Hospital, Chicago.
Mrs. Roy is survived by two daughters, Linda (Philip) Wilhelm and Donna Braun; grandchildren Christopher and James Wilhelm and Alex and Justine Braun; a great-grandson, Jackson Wilhelm; and siblings Phyllis, Donald (Rita), Leonard (Mary Jane) Szarzynski, Richard (Lois) Szarz and Roman (Linda) Kotowycz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James R.; and two brothers, Edward and Chester Szarzynski.
Interment was in Montrose Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Arlington Heights Senior Citizen Inc., 1801 W. Central Road, Arlington Heights IL 60005. Arrangements were made with Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows.
Joseph A. Siwek
Funeral services for Joseph A. Siwek, 90, of Grayslake, formerly of Arlington Heights, were held June 12 at the Faith Lutheran Church, Arlington Heights. born Jan. 7, 1913, in Wisconsin, he died June 9, 2003 at Condell Medical Center, Libertyville.
Mr. Siwek worked as a steel melter for the Crane Co. for more than 32 years, and at Wheeling High School for nine years.
He is survived by his wife of more than 69 years, Beatrice (nee Sebastian); two children, Ruth (John) Loebach and James (Linda); grandchildren Jennifer (Chris Uyu) Loebach, James Jr., Anne Hart, Stacey (Andrew) Martarano, Elizabeth (Andrew) Whetsell, Richard (Mary Lou), Christopher (Amy) and Joseph Levin; and great-grandchildren Reece and Hannah Hart, Sophie Whetsell, Andrew, Brent, Brett, Alexis and Dylan Levin.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Entombment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church. Arrangements were made with Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows.
Donald N. Smith
Funeral services for Donald N. Smith, 81, of Arlington Heights, were held June 17 at the Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., Arlington Heights. born Nov. 24, 1921, in Detroit, he died June 12, 2003 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Smith was president of Smith Machine Sales, Elk Grove Village. He was an avid golfer in his retirement.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia (nee Karkau), who he married Sept. 10, 1948; two sons, Jeffrey (Margaret) of Arlington Heights and Randolph of Chicago; and a grandchild, Ryan.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton and Jack.

Carmen L. Sparreo
A funeral Mass for Carmen L. Sparreo, 65, of Arlington Heights, was celebrated June 23 at St. Mary Church, Buffalo Grove. born Oct. 27, 1937, in Chicago, he died June 12, 2003 at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights.
Mr. Sparreo was a former coach, manager, league director and president of the Buffalo Grove Recreation Association. He was a member of St. Mary Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and a coordinator and facilitator of the Renew program. He worked as a process sales engineer for Flinn and Dreffein Engineering Co. in Northbrook and as a consultant on his own with Carmen L. Sparreo & Associates. He also was a member of the American Society of Metallurgical Engineers.
Mr. Sparreo is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joan H. (nee Kurczaba); three children, Patricia (Kevin) Sparreo-Kilpatrick, John (Monica) and Michael (Lisa); his grandchildren, Molly Kilpatrick, Graham Kilpatrick, Logan Kilpatrick, Chandler Kilpatrick, Luke, Raechel, Natalie, Jacob and Isabelle; and a brother, John.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary.
Interment was in St. Mary Cemetery, Buffalo Grove. Arrangements were made with Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, Arlington Heights.
Robert R. Spratt
A funeral Mass for Robert R. Spratt, 69, of Arlington Heights, was celebrated June 14 at St. Edna Catholic Church, Arlington Heights. born April 24, 1934, in Yonkers, N.Y., he died June 10, 2003 in Nags Head, N.C.
Mr. Spratt retired from Midwest Industrial Metal of Chicago in 1998.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Ann (nee Barrie), whom he married Sept. 14, 1957; his children, Karen (Mark) Wallace of Lake Zurich, Allison (Brad) Mathis of South Elgin and Diane Lyons of Chicago; his grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew; and a sister, Joan (John) Walsh of Milford, Conn.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Trotta; and a brother, John.
Entombment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Metha M. Engel
Funeral services for Metha "Mae" Engel (nee Rasmussen), 88, of Rolling Meadows, were held Sept. 27 at Lauterberg & Oehler Funeral Home, Arlington Heights. born Nov. 2, 1914, in Norwalk, Iowa, she died peacefully Sept. 23, 2003 at her home.
Mrs. Engel is survived by a son, Robert (Judy); a daughter, Sue Ellen (Thomas) Conner; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Paul) Keyes, Randy (Diane), Christine (Tony) Barile, Pam, Greg (Melissa) and Holly; her great-grandchildren, McLain, Jackson, Brock, Preston, Brian Keyes and Alexander Keyes; and a sister, Laura Petersen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M.; and her siblings, Margaret, Edna, Albertina, Anne and Charles.

Harold Gorski
Harold B. Gorski, 75, of Chicago's Norwood Park community, died Sept. 19, 2003 in Resurrection Medical Center, Chicago.
Mr. Gorski served in the U.S. Navy. He was an industrial painter for International Harvester and a member of the United Auto Workers for more than 30 years. He also worked 25 years at Sears in Golf Mill.
Dubbed "the Mayor of Oak Park Avenue" by his many longtime neighbors, he was a Scoutmaster and a founding member of the athletic program at St. Thecla Parish.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty (nee Crowley); his children, John (Mary) of St. Charles, Robert (Donna) of California, William (Laura) of Arlington Heights and David (Goldie) Gorski of Chicago; grandchildren Melissa, Robyn and Amy; a brother-in-law, William (Evelyn) Crowley; and a sister-in-law, Marcia (Charles) Lamb.
Visitation was in M.J. Suerth Funeral Home, Chicago. His funeral Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Robert Darow, pastor of St. Hilary Church and a former associate pastor of St. Thecla Church, on Sept. 23 in St. Thecla Catholic Church, Chicago. Entombment was in All Saints Mausoleum, Des Plaines.

Eleanore F. McGuinnis
A funeral Mass for Eleanore F. McGuinnis (nee Salmon), of Mount Prospect, was celebrated Oct. 1 at St. Raymond De Penafort Church, Mount Prospect. born in Chicago, she died Sept. 28, 2003 at Northwest Community Healthcare.
Mrs. McGuinnis was an active parishioner at St. Raymond for more than 50 years.
She is survived by three children, John (Katherine), Mary Kay (John) Kenyon and James; her grandchildren, Madelyn, John and Isabelle McGuinnis, John, Kyle and Colleen Kenyon, and Bridget Jacobsen; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her daughter, Patricia Jacobsen.
Interment was in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.

Natalie G. Leslie (nee Frieder), 89, of Arlington Heights, died Sept. 27, 2003 at Lutheran Home and Services for the Aged. She was born Sept. 9, 1914, in Chicago.
Mrs. Leslie was a retired clerk for Heinemann's Bakery.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia S. (the late Larry) Davie; a son, William P. (Rossana); two grandchildren, Jennifer S. Creighton and Mark C. (Paula) Davie; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Creighton, Tanner Davie and Kelsey Davie; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Leo J.; and her siblings, Helen Anderson, George Frieder and Walter Frieder.
Funeral services were held Sept. 23 at the Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, Arlington Heights.
Interment was in Randhill Park Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
Raymond R. Mengarelli
A funeral Mass for Raymond R. Mengarelli, 56, of Arlington Heights, formerly of Palatine, was celebrated Sept. 26, 2003 at St. Joseph Home for the Elderly, Palatine.
Born Feb. 26, 1947, in Chicago, he died Sept. 23 at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.
Mr. Mengarelli is survived by his wife, Jeanine R. (nee Hanwell); two sons, Robert (Amy Carlson) of Crystal Lake and Michael (Heather Gonzalez) of Streamwood; his identical twin brother, Ronald (Kay Kummerow) of Gilberts, Ill.; a sister, Doris (Francis) Golbeck of Elgin; a granddaughter, Marissa Ann; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Dora; and a brother, Guy Jr., at the age of 8.
Interment was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
