Alfred J. Hain, 77, of Des Plaines, formerly of Chicago, died June 25, 1999 in Northwestern Hospital. born Dec. 8, 1921 in Germany, he was a retired Chicago Fireman, truck No. 25 and he was a former member of the Northwest Turners.
Funeral service was conducted on June 28 in Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines. Burial was in St. John Cemetery, Fox River Grove.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy; father of Ronald (Toni) Hain of Hoffman Estates, Roger of Chicago and Janeen (Lloyd) Kusch of Des Plaines; grandfather of Jason, Adam, Brandy, Jamie, Mark and Greg.
Ralph Keefer
Ralph H. Keefer, 69, of Des Plaines, died June 28, 1999 in Rosewood Care Center in Northbrook.
Born Feb. 22, 1930 he had been a salesman for Sears Roebuck in Golf Mill in Niles for 24 years. He was a member of the Audobon Society and was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean War.
He is survived by his cousin Betty Hadzima of Lake In The Hills.
Funeral service was conducted on July 2 in Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines. Burial was in Irving Park Cemetery.

John Kraus
John Dave Kraus, 72, of Des Plaines died on June 18, 1999 in Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.
Mr. Kraus was a retired police officer for the Village of Niles. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his children, Dawn (Mark) Goggin, Karen (Michael) Weed, Colleen (Keith) Larimer and Timothy O'Grady; 10 grandchildren; and brother, Wayne (Charlene) Kraus.
Funeral service was conducted on June 22 in Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, Niles. Entombment was in Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Arlington Heights.
Walter Pabst
Walter J. Pabst, 72, of Norwood Park, died June 22, 1999 at home. born Oct. 1, 1926 in Chicago, he had worked as a photo engraver, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was the wife for over 48 years of Mary Eileen (nee Smit); father of Wally (Jerri) of Norwood Park, Luann (Ken) Grish of Mount Prospect, Tom (Sue) of Arlington Heights; brother of Violet and Janice.
Visitation was held June 23 at the M.J. Suerth Funeral Home, Chicago. His funeral Mass was held June 24 at St. Tarcissus Catholic Church, Chicago, with the Rev. Tom Baldonieri, associate pastor, as celebrant. Burial was was at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles.
Richard Szczech
Richard R. Szczech, 60, of Des Plaines died on June 14, 1999 in Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.
Mr. Szczech was the owner of Check Realty Co.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Michael, Kathleen and Ronald Szczech and Laura Iturralde; grandchildren, Jennifer Clemmons, Joseph Szczech and Ander Lee Iturralde; and brothers, Eugene, Joseph and Edward Szczech.
Visitation was in Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, Niles. Funeral Mass was celebrated on June 16 in Our Lady of Ransom Church, Niles. Burial was in Maryhill Cemetery, Niles.
Glen Wood
Glen Wood, 92, of Des Plaines, died June 24, 1999 at home.
Mr. Wood had worked as Production Manager for Wyeth Industries after retiring. Mr. Wood was past treasurer of the Ballard Acres Association and instrumental in having water and sewer lines installed in that area. He was also involved in the Meals on Wheels. He was a former Mason and former Toastmaster. He also sold real estate for Ediemiller Real Estate.
Funeral service was conducted on June 25 in Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines. Burial was in Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines.
Preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, he is survived by his children, Robert (Deborah) Wood of San Diego, Richard of Des Plaines, William (Marquerite) of Des Plaines, Benjamin (Kathleen) of Des Plaines, Frances (Neil) Martin of Des Plaines; grandfather of 14; great-grandfather of 2.

Joseph William Brown, Sr.
Age 78, of Wilmington passed away on Sunday morning, December 30, 2001 at home. born April 2, 1923 in Vandalia to the late Ora and Susan (Klienik) Brown. Also preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Estes Brown (1961), four brothers and two sisters.
Survived by his second wife, Pearl Richmond Brown; four children, Garry (Virgie) Mc Pherson of Houston, TX, Edward (Judy) Mc Pherson of Colorado Springs, CO, Mary (Travis) Mc Dowell of Hartselle, AL and Joe Brown Jr of Wilmington, IL; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Brown of Midlegville, Donald Klienik of Vandalia and Rick Brown of Kansas; five sisters, Mildred Jackson of OH, Verna Taylor of AZ, Alice Sizemore of KY, Sharon Lange of Sicily and Brenda Calhoun of Wilmington; two step brothers; a step sister; and several nieces and nephews.
Retired from Celotex Paper Mill 1950-1968, owner/operator of Brown's Wrecking and Towing from 1967-1989 and retired from City of Wilmington Maintenance Crew from 1977 to 1989. Veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, 668th Engr Co., member of the Vandalia V.F.W. Post.
Visitation from 3:00 PM on Wednesday, January 2, 2002 until time of service at 7:00 PM at the Freitag Funeral Home. Interment Brush Creek Cemetery, Cumberland County at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, January 3, 2002.

Charles R. Etheridge Jr. "Chuck"
Age 68. Went to be with his Lord, Saturday, December 29, 2001, at his late residence with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. born in New Lenox and a lifelong Joliet area resident. A graduate of Joliet Central High School, Class of 1951. Retired from the Joliet Herald News after 49 years of service. On behalf of our family, we would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Joliet Area Community Hospice and Joliet Oncology for their exemplary care and concern during this most difficult time.
Preceded in death by his parents, Charles R. and Frances M. Etheridge Sr.; five sisters, Lucille Etheridge, Elsie Bolk, Myrtle Harrison, June Wilmsen and Dorothy Etheridge in infancy; one grandson, Paul Charles Schofield; one son-in-law, Paul Schofield.
Survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary L. Anamae Freehauf (nee Hart)
Age 93, Sunday, December 30, 2001 at her home with her family by her side.
Survived by her son, Anthony (Anita) Freehauf; three granddaughters, Sarah, Stefie and Anamae Freehauf, all of Channahon. Her brother, Glen (Van) Hart of Wilmington; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by her husband, William T. Freehauf; parents, Otto and Stella Hart. Several brothers and sisters.
Born in Joliet, a lifelong area resident. Member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Age 78, of Lemont, December 28, 2001 at his residence. born August 15, 1923, a lifelong Lemont resident. He attended St. Alphonsus Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School and Notre Dame University. With his wife, Mary, he owned and operated Theo. J. Gorski and Son, Inc. (established 1915), and Gorski Distributors, Inc, Lemont since 1955. Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Member of the Notre Dame Alumni Association, member and Past President (three terms) of the Lemont Chamber of Commerce, member of the American Legion Post #243, V.F.W., Post #5819, Knights of Columbus, Council #1599, Lemont Lions Club, Elks Lodge #296, and Lockport Lodge #1577, L.O.O.M. Former Commissioner of the Lemont Fire Protection District. Co-founder and former Board member of Lemont Savings.
Survived by his wife, Mary (nee Foster) Gorski; three daughters, Mary Wicke of Huntington Beach, CA, Karen Etzkom of Lemont and Judy (Walt) Newbold of McHenry; three sons, Robert John (Carol) of Lemont, David (Diana) of Romeoville and Kevin (Wanda) of Downers Grove; 13 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two cousins, Norb (Lorraine) Kluga of Lemont and Lorraine Ferguson of Long Beach, CA.
Preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Genevieve Gorski; and infant daughter, Mary Ellen; and a grandson, Michael Etzkorn.
