David Reid
Funeral services for David Reid, 94, of Lake Zurich, formerly of Antioch and Evanston, were held Sept. 27, 2003 at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, Lake Zurich. born March 25, 1909, in Kirkfieldbank, Scotland, he died Sept. 24 in Lake Zurich.
Mr. Reid is survived by a son, Richard (Barbara); a daughter, Sandra Starr; his grandchildren, Candace (Paul) Dietzen, Ellen, Lynne (Jack) Kulchitsky, Richard (Barbara), David (Terry), and foster grandchildren, James and Jackie; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by a very special daughter, Judy Zavakos.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith "Billie"; and his brothers, Alexander and Jack.
Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights. Memorials may be made to Camp Lions, c/o Lake Zurich Lions Club, P.O. Box 222, Lake Zurich IL 60047; or Special Olympics of Illinois, P.O. Box 699, Normal IL 61761-0699.
Lorraine A. Drewniak
Lorraine A. Drewniak, 84, of Lake Villa, formerly of Chicago, died Sept. 26, 2003 in Condell Medical Center, Libertyville. He was born June 13, 1919 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Haack, and had lived there for many years before moving to Lake Villa in 1997. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, and opening her home to everyone. She married Bruno Drewniak Aug. 31, 1940.
Survivors include three sons, Ron (Terrie) of Lake Villa, Thomas of Cicero, and Robert (Barbara) of Buffalo Grove; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, William and Irwin "Corky" Haack both of Milwaukee, Wisc; and two sisters, Bernice (Frank) Chruby of Palos Hills, Ill. and Eileen Nelson of Lombard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bruno.
Funeral services were held Sept. 29 at Strang Funeral Home of Antioch. Private interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, IL.
Elaine Apostal
Elaine "Ricky" Apostal, 71, of Salem, Wis., formerly of Antioch, died Sept. 24, 2003 at her home.
Mrs. Apostal was born Dec. 4, 1931, in Chicago, the daughter of the late Paul and Bertha (Conrad) Richter. She was an active member of St. Peter Church in Antioch, where she sang in the church and Resurrection choirs, taught religious education, was an original Footlights Committee member and had worked as a librarian at the church school.
She was a former Brownie, Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, had been active with 4-H, was recording secretary of the American Field Service at Antioch Community High School, an election judge for 20 years, sang in the Community and Festival of Arts choirs, and in 1977 she was chosen with her husband as Antioch's VIP.
Ricky was an active member of the PM&L Theater in Antioch since 1967, both on stage acting and back stage managing, making costumes, painting sets, and the like. She and her husband received the Life Time Achievement Award. She also stage managed the Antioch Bi-Centennial Show, "Colonial Capers" and was even removed from the stage chorus line with a shepherd's hook!
Mrs. Apostal had worked as a secretary at McGraw-Hill Publishing, Wahl-Henius Institute Consulting Chemists and for Orchard Medical Center in addition to all her volunteer work.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Apostal, whom she married on Jan. 24, 1953, at St. Bartholomew Church in Chicago; four daughters, Suzanne Apostal of Lake Villa, Julianne (Michael) Ocwieja of Twin Lakes, Dianne (Bret) Mumenthaler of Antioch, and Tricia (Stephen) Roehrig of Milwaukee; four sons, Peter (Joelle) of Pleasant Prairie, Henry II (Christine) of Spring Grove, Joseph (Tena) of Johnsburg, and Christopher (Tania) of Lindenhurst; son-in-law, Michael Knox of Waukegan; one brother, Paul "Bud" (Adeline) Richter of Gainsville, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Joanne Knox, and one brother, Donald Richter.
Funeral services with Mass of Christian Burial was offered Sept. 27 at St. Peter Church in Antioch. Interment was in Carmel Cemetery, Antioch. Funeral arrangements were handled by Strang Funeral Home, Antioch. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to the St. Peter School Scholarship Fund, 900 St. Peter Street, Antioch, IL 60002, in her memory.
Gertrude C. Borre
A funeral Mass for Gertrude C. Borre (nee Wellner), 82, of Barrington will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Church, 11 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich.
Mrs. Borre, who was born March 21, 1918, in Whitelaw, Wis., died Feb. 3, 2001 in Barrington. She was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Keenagers.
She is survived by her husband, George P.; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich, followed by prayers at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Indian School, N. Main St., Chamberlain SD 57326; or Divine Word Missionaries, Techny IL 60082.
Priscilla Haugen
Priscilla Castle Haugen, 76, formerly of Arlington Heights and Barrington, died Jan. 14, 2001. She was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Glencoe, where she was raised.
Mrs. Haugen attended New Trier High School and Rollins College. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, the Biltmore Country Club in Barrington and Atlantis Golf Club in Florida. She also had resided in St. Louis, Mo., and Atlantis, Fla. She was known for her ready sense of humor and enjoyed bridge, reading, the beach, and most of all, her family.
She is survived by her husband, Harold R.; three daughters, Janet of Palatine, Carol McDermott of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Elizabeth (Thomas) Anderson of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Edward Boe, Casey McDermott and David and Peter Anderson.
A memorial service was held Jan. 18 at Palm Beach Memorial Park Funeral Home, Lantana, Fla. Memorials are appreciated to the American Heart Association, Dept. 77-3968, Chicago IL 60678-3968.
Delores Karavidas
Memorial services for Delores Karavidas (nee Howser), 67, of Arlington Heights were held Feb. 3, 2001 at the Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., Arlington Heights. born Dec. 12, 1933, in Shawnee, Okla., she died Jan. 29, 2001 at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights.
A former insurance underwriter, Mrs. Karavidas had also been a devoted member of the Arlington Heights Woman’s Club since 1984. She was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of the USA Illinois Prairie Girl Scout Council, where she was active in leadership for more than 25 years. She was also a former Cub Scout den mother and active in the PTA and other volunteer groups when her children were growing up. In addition, she had a love of motorcycling.
Mrs. Karavidas is survived by her husband, Charles, whom she married March 24, 1964; three children, John (Sandy) of Oakwood Hills, Connie of Arlington Heights and Steve (Melissa) of Lake Zurich; two aunts, Roma J. Flynn of Lake Barrington Shores and Marcia J. Jones of Gurnee; and her father, Gene Kopp of Okeechobee, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Comella Kopp (nee Jones).

Gunnar O. Oman
Barrington resident Gunnar O. Oman, 91, died Jan. 29, 2001 at Good Shepherd Hospital. He was born Nov. 17, 1909, in Asker, Norway.
Before his retirement, he was employed by the engineering firm of Roberts and Schafer in Chicago. Mr. Oman was a member of the Norge Ski Club, the United States Ski Team (ski jumping) and the 1940 U.S. Olympic Ski Jumping Team (The Olympic Games were canceled due to World War II). In addition to his U.S. skiing accomplishments, he also won the Canadian National Ski Jumping Championship. He was a member of the Norwegian American Athletic Association.
Mr. Oman is survived by his wife, Ella S. (nee Johansen), whom he married Sept. 7, 1935, in Chicago; his children, Kay (John) Golitz and Earl K. (Diane); and his grandchildren, Dana Dawson, Jennifer Dawson Rice and Kirsten.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Marie; three brothers and three sisters.

Zenon W. Pokvitis
Zenon W. ”Zen” Pokvitis, 75, of Naperville, formerly of Chicago, Morton Grove and Glenview, died Feb. 3, 2001 at home. He was born Jan. 11, 1926, in Chicago.
Mr. Pokvitis was born and raised in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood. He served as a private first class in the U.S. Army Artillery in Europe during World War II. After the war, Mr. Pokvitis married Betty Waishwile on July 18, 1948. Together they founded the Able Electro Polishing Co. in Chicago in 1954. The business is internationally known as a specialty metal finishing company. Mr. Pokvitis served as chairman and chief executive officer. Mr. Pokvitis was a self-taught graduate level chemist. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, painting, and playing chess. He was a former private pilot, cattle rancher and world traveler who visited Africa, China, South America, Europe and Japan. Other interests included investing, philanthropy and U.S. military history.
Mr. Pokvitis is survived by three children, Sandy (John) Glass of Naperville, Lynda (Tom) Schewe of Barrington and Dave (Renee) of Springfield, Ore.; eight grandchildren, John (Jennie) Glass of West Lafayette, Ind., Tom (Chrissy) Glass of Aurora, Kathryn Elizabeth Glass and Brian Glass, all of Naperville, Ryon and Dana Schewe of Barrington, Gregory and Natalie of Springfield, Ore.; a great-grandchild, Abigail Glass of Aurora; and a sister, Estelle Kirda of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (nee Waishwile); and his parents, William and Marcella.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at SS. Peter & Paul Church, Naperville, followed by interment in Naperville Cemetery.
The family asks that memorials be made to the donor’s choice. Arrangements were made with Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, Naperville.
Geraldine M. Vogel
A funeral Mass for Geraldine M. Vogel of Tower Lakes was celebrated Wednesday at Transfiguration Church, Wauconda. Interment was private.
Mrs. Vogel is survived by her husband, John C. “Jack”; children John (Kathy), Janet (Richard) Bahr and Jim (Erin McCarthy); grandchildren Michael, Matthew, Adam, Corin, Allison and David; a brother, Alfred (June) Kiesler; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, George Jr. (Harriet) and Raymond (Madeline).
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Neighborhood Boys and Girls Club, 2501 W. Irving Park Road, Chicago IL 60618 would be appreciated.

Virginia C. Bornquist
Virginia Chase Bornquist, formerly of Barrington, died peacefully in the early morning of March 30, 2006 from natural causes, surrounded by caregivers and family.
Mrs. Bornquist led a long and wonderful life. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday. She began her life on the west side of Chicago. She was the third child of Ezra Dwight Chase and Edith Herzog Chase. She graduated from Austin High School and went on to Northwestern University in Evanston, where she graduated cum laude in 1937.
On Dec. 30, 1938, George Wyman Bornquist and Virginia eloped. They lived in Oak Park from 1939 to 1956. They had two children, Eric Chase Bornquist and Melissa Anne Bornquist. In 1956 the Bornquists moved to Barrington. George died in 1970 of cancer. Virginia began spending winters in Naples, Fla.
During her life, Mrs. Bornquist was active in The Infant Welfare of Chicago, the Woman's Western Golf Association, and spent 12 years as a volunteer and an auxiliary member emergency room helper for Naples Community Hospital.
She is survived by her son, Eric Chase Bornquist of Naperville; a daughter, Melissa Anne Bornquist, of Naples; her grandchildren, Christopher George Luetgert, of Ocala, Fla., Bailey Maynard Luetgert of Los Angeles and Lisa Dawn Archibald of Gurnee; and a great-grandson, Jack Daniel Krolak.
Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to one's favorite charity. Arrangements were made with Fuller Funeral Home, Naples.
Jeanette M. Brekke
Private graveside services for Jeanette M. (née Meek) Brekke, 88, of Barrington were held April 3 at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington. born June 27, 1917, in Decatur, she died March 30, 2006 at her home.
Mrs. Brekke worked as a secretary for many years until she retired in 1984.
Mrs. Brekke is survived by two sons, Bradford (Carolina) of Williams Lake, British Columbia, and Timothy (Ruth) of Cary; three grandsons, Christopher, Erik, and Brian; and 3 great-grandchildren, Breanna, Christopher, and Brandon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E., whom she married June 22, 1940 in Fox Lake, her parents, Ralph and Marie (née Clark); and her brother, Robert.

June M. Hourigan
A funeral Mass for June M. (née Johannes) Hourigan, 78, of Lake Barrington Shores was celebrated April 3, 2006 at St. Anne Church, Barrington. The Rev. Britto Berchmans officiated.
Visitation was Sunday at Davenport Family Funeral, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road) in Barrington.
Born Sept. 5, 1927, in Chicago, Mrs. Hourigan died March 28 in Bradenton, Fla. She was a member of Questers in Arlington Heights.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Robert J.; seven children, Daniel (Trudy) of Barrington, Patrick (Donna) of Williams Bay, Wis., James (Joann) of Palatine, Robert A. of Pikeville, Tenn., Brian of Denver, Colo., David (Mary) of Roselle and Nancy Saurmann of Cary; 16 grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Downey of New Port Richey, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward C. and Miriam (née Lutz). Interment was in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Arrangements were made with the Davenport Family Funeral Home, Barrington.
Rosanne A. Sciddurlo
A funeral Mass for Rosanne A. "Mrs. S." (née DiPietra) Sciddurlo, 51, of South Barrington was celebrated April 5 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Barrington. born Nov. 15, 1954, in Chicago, she died April 2, 2006 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.
Mrs. Sciddurlo was a teacher at Prairie Middle School in Barrington, where she taught English as a Second Language and also taught special needs children.
She was a member of the National Education Association and a co-founder of the South Barrington Garden Club.
She was graduated from Northeastern University in Chicago, and received a master's degree from DePaul University.
Mrs. Sciddurlo is survived by her husband, Onofrio, whom she married on Nov. 11, 1978; two sons, Alexander and Robert; and her parents, Agnes and Frank DiPietra. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas.
Arrangements were made with the Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Schaumburg.
Dennis M. Garrity
A funeral Mass for Dennis M. Garrity, 51, was celebrated April 3, 2006 at Immaculate Conception Church, Chicago. Mr. Garrity died suddenly on March 27, 2006.
Mr. Garrity is survived by his parents, Donald and Mary (née Joyce); his siblings, John (Penny), Eileen (Jeffrey) Castles, Mary Kay, Brian (Peggy) and Jean (Robert) Arnold; and his nephews and nieces, Kevin, Maribeth, Michael, Erin, Patsy, Jack, Nora and Nathan Garrity, David Oleksy, Steven Castles, Melissa Castles, Lauren Arnold, Danny Arnold and Colleen Arnold.
