Age 54. Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center. born in Vincennes, IN and resident of Joliet most of her life.
Surviving is her loving husband James R. White of Joliet. Two children Anthony (Nancy) White of Plainfield and Catherine Ernst of Joliet. Four grandchildren Jonas Pelters, Jeremy, Shaun and Alyssa Ernst. Her mother Maria Churchwell of Braidwood. Two sisters Deborah Churchwell of Chicago and Pamela (Michael) Brophy of Chicago. One brother John (Valorie) Churchwell of Braidwood. Dearest aunt of Chad Peterson, John Churchwell, Cory Churchwell, Stefanie Churchwell, Kristina Vollmer, Jennifer Bamrick and John White. Numerous aunts and uncles also survive.
Preceded by her father Marion "Gene" Churchwell.
Funeral Services for Tressa J. White will be Saturday, January 20, 2001, 10:30 a.m. from the West Chapel to Holy Family Catholic Church, Shorewood, for a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will follow. LaVerne C. Bargas
LaVerne C. Bargas, 72, formerly of Joliet & Lockport, died Thursday (Jan. 11, 2001) in Leesburg, FL.
Born in Joliet, IL (Oct. 29, 1928) La Verne and family moved to Kalamazoo/Portage, MI in 1966, and retired to Leesburg, FL with her husband in 1987. Prior to retirement, LaVerne was employed as the Office Manager at the Valley Inn Motel in Kalamazoo.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Thomas A.; daughter Pamela D. Toler of Apopka, FL.; son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Helen Bargas of Spring Hill, TN.; grandson Christopher Bargas of Murfreesboro, TN. and granddaughter Julia Bargas of Spring Hill, TN. Also surviving are brothers, Spencer Phillips of Clermont, FL. and Orville Phillips of Blue Mounds, WI.; sisters Lois Weber of Minooka, IL.; Phyllis Fox of Joliet, IL. and Doris Davidson of Madison, WI. She is also survived by many supportive nieces, nephews and cousins.
LaVerne was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin and Florence Phillips; and one brother, Lynn Phillips.
Cremation was followed by interment in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

Age 41. Suddenly Wednesday, January 17, 2001 as the result of an automobile accident.
Born in Joliet and a long time Joliet area resident. A graduate of the College of St. Francis, Joliet Catholic High School and St. Jude Grade School. Member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus. Michael's greatest enjoyment was being outdoors with his family and friends. For all who knew him, Michael's passion and reason for living were his wife, children, family and friends.
Survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Carol (nee Batis) Brown; three children, Timothy Fitzgerald (age 13), Thomas Michael (age 11) and Kathleen Batis Brown (age 8), all of Joliet; his parents, Bill and Betty (Fitzgerald) Brown of Joliet; one brother, Kevin (Stacey) Brown of Elburn, IL; two sisters, Mary (Bill) Whitmer and Meg (Nick) Honiotes, both of Joliet; his parents-in-law, Ed and Irene Batis of Joliet; three brothers-in-law, Ed Jr. (Kathy) Batis of San Antonio, Joe (Sandy) Batis and Jim (Sue) Batis, both of Joliet; three sisters-in-law, Kathy (Roger) Tibble of Wheaton, Judy (Joe) Stengele of Joliet and Ann (Dan) Kinsella of Wheaton. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends also survive.
Preceded in death by close family members and friends, especially his loving cousin, Mary Margaret Broderick.
Michael F. Brown will lie in state on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Ave. from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. "Stoney"
Age 56. Passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at Silver Cross Hospital.
Born May 30, 1944 in Jackson, TN and residing in Joliet for the past 30 years.
Stoney retired from Commonwealth Edison in 1995 and was a former employee of GAF (Ruberoid). He was very active in the community and served as president of Sugarcreek Highlands Homeowner's Association.
Survived by his wife of 28 years, Iola (Adams); two daughters, Demita Chism of Jackson, TN and Robin Chism of Joliet; two sons, Calvin Chism and Markus (Cozette) Chism of Joliet; two granddaughters, Skylar and Taylor Chism also of Joliet.
Four sisters, Ethel (Fred) Luster, Patsy (Jay) Jones, Symantha (Robert) Douglas, Janet (John) James; three brothers, James (Maxine) Chism, Eddie (Drucilla) Chism, Norman (Shirlynn) Chism, all of Jackson, TN. Also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, Stonewall, Sr. and Susie (nee Alston) Chism.

Mary M. Davis
Mary M. Davis entered this life on July 7, 1924 to the union of Prophet & Mary Gordon in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
She came to know God and was baptized in 1943 at the Church Of God In Christ. She attended Peaks High School in Arkadelphia. She was wed in Holy Matrimony in 1953 to Otho Davis.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, brothers, P.J., James, and Frank Gordon.
She departed this life on January 16, 2001 and leaves to mourn, her brother, Freddie L. (Bernice) Gordon and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Sunday, January 21, 2001 at 5:00 P.M. at the Second Baptist Church, 156 S. Joliet St., Joliet, IL, Rev. Larry V. Tyler, officiating. Visitation Sunday 4:00 P.M. at the Church. Interment Monday, 11:00 A.M. at the Elmhurst Cemetery.

Of Lowell, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2001 at the VNA Mary Bartz Hospice Center.
Preceded in death by her husband, Edward H.
Survived by sisters, Beatrice T. Grazen of Woldorf, MD, Gertrude (Fredrick) Gerken of Denville, NJ; also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 22, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Anthony Home Chapel in Crown Point with Fr. Myron Lowicz and Fr. Terry Steffens officiating. Entombment will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrilville.
Friends may meet with the family on Sunday, January 21, 2001 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 S. Cline Ave. (one mile South of Rt. 30), Schererville.
Loretta was a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church in Crown Point. She was a Republican precinct committeeman for nearly 40 years. After the death of her husband, Ed, Loretta took the chairmanship of the Tri-Creek Republican organization in Lowell and remained in that position until the early 90's; but she remained active in Republican politics until her onset of her illness in May, 2000. She received the Chairman's Award from Lake County Republican chairman, Roger Chiabia, at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner.
Loretta had a great love for her family, her church, Republican politics, and for the Performing Arts. She will be sadly missed by all.

Age 77. Late of Green Garden Township. died January 16, 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte (Willie) Wollenzen.
Survived by one daughter Shelbee (John) Rivard of Frankfort; one son Larry (Sandra) of South Wayne, Wisconsin; one sister Lorraine (Lee) Ewers of Allons, Tennessee; grandfather of eight; great-grandfather of three; great-great grandfather of one.
He owned and operated a farm in Green Garden Township. Member of the Will County Farm Bureau.
Visitation will be Sunday 2:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Prayer service Sunday 7:30 p.m. Reverend Richard Lewis of St. Peters United Church of Christ officiating. Internment private. Family requests memorials to the Joliet Hospice, Masonic Shriners, or United Cerebral Palsy.

Age 66, late of Romeoville, Thursday, January 18, 2001 at her late residence.
Born in Michigan, living in Romeoville since 1968. Employed by the Catholic Diocese of Joliet for 24 years, retiring in 2000. Member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Romeoville CCW. Rita enjoyed ceramics for several years.
Preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ruby (King) Conery; and two brothers, Albert and Morris Conery.
Survived by her husband, Donald; her children, Denise (David) Richards of Romeoville and Dennis (Laurie) of Lockport; three grandchildren, Megan, Erin and Jason; two brothers, James (Peg) Conery of Wisconsin and Mike (Kay) Conery of Michigan; and a sister, Beverly (Bob) Chartier of Michigan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Hospice or St. Andrew's Building Fund would be appreciated.

Samuel C. Lucenta "Sam"
Age 75. Passed away January 18, 2001 at Silver Cross Hospital. Sam was a lifelong resident of Joliet.
Preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Rosa Lucenta; an infant son Charles Lucenta; father-in-law and mother-in-law Anthony and Frances Tapella; brothers John Sr. and Pat Lucenta.
Survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Rita (Tapella); five children, Dominic Lucenta, Jo Ann (Dan) Miller, Annette (Robert fiancee) Lucenta, Cynthia (Daniel) Krzysciak, Robert Lucenta; a sister Mary (Cliff) Scholp; sisters-in-law Rose Marie Sadenwater, Margaret Lucenta and Marguerite Lucenta; five grandchildren Damon and Lindsey Lucenta, Kyle, Mark, and Julie Miller; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Sam was a veteran serving in the Air Force as Second Lieutenant. He was a member of American Legion Post 1080, active in Easter Seals, and the Senior Bowling League at Town and Country Lanes.
