Passed away at Silver Cross Hospital, Monday, January 22, 2001. Age 87 years.
Survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred A. Furdeck (nee Vogen); a son, Robert J. (Lois) Furdeck of Rapid City, SD; a daughter, Kathryn A. (Barry) Fitzgerald of Oaklawn, IL; five grandchildren, Kelley, Jacquelin, Bobbie Jo, Colleen and Brenda; devoted great-grandfather of eight; three brothers Al (Dorothy) Furdek, John (Agnes) Furdek and Wendell (Barbara) Hucek; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" (Earl-deceased) Baxter, all of Joliet. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Katherine and Joseph Furdeck; two brothers, Andrew and Martin Furdek; and a sister, Mary Furdeck.
Member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, St. Bernard's Parish Club, Joe was active in St. Bernard's Church as an usher for 30 years, bingo for 11 years and pancake breakfasts for many years. Member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Trinity Council #4400. Retired from the Mississippi Valley Barge Line after 35 years of service.
Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Thursday, January 25 at 9:30 A.M. to St. Bernards Catholic Church at 10:00 am for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-6 P.M.

Betty Joy Heimer
Betty Joy Heimer, 74, of Montgomery, IL, joined her Lord on January 19, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 14, 1926 in Lakeville, IN. She was united in marriage to her late husband, Donald Wayne Heimer, on December 22, 1955 at Lakeville. Mrs. Heimer was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her caring and loving ways helped her as a housemother at Baltimore Hall at Moosehart, IL where she worked for many years until her retirement. Betty was a member of Christian Church of Oswegoland and Loyal Order of Moose #400, in Aurora.
She is survived by her seven sons, Darrell (Ann) Heimer of Pekin, IL, Larry (Mariko) Heimer of Port St. Lucie, FL, Michael (Nicky) Heimer of Montgomery, David (Dee Ann) Heimer of Seneca, IL, Jerry (Vicky) Heimer of Conifer, CO, Jeff (Emily) Heimer of Azle, TZ and Timothy (Denise) Heimer of Channahon; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Helen Tinkel of Bremem, IN; two brothers, Everett (Vivian) Huff of Bremen, IN and Robert Huff of Florida.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wayne Heimer in August of 1979; her parents, Garnett and Vern Huff; one son, James Heimer; one sister, Hazel Paolucci and one brother, Harold Huff.
Funeral services for Mrs. Heimer will be held on Wednesday January 24, 2001 at the Bremen Cemetery, in Bremen, IN, at 3 pm. Pastors Brad Thorton and Wade Heimer will officiate. Entombment will take place after the services in Bremen, IN.

Age 93. Suddenly Monday, January 22, 2001 at his late residence.
Born in Joliet and a lifelong Joliet area resident. A World War II US Navy Veteran. Retired from the Deaton Kennedy Company after over 71 years of service. A member of the Moran A.C. Club, Stone City Post VFW #2199 and St. John's Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by his wife, Minnie (nee Perona) Hirsch; his parents; four brothers, Alois, Adolph, John and Hermann Hirsch.
Survived by one son, Richard (Janet) Hirsch of Webster Groves, MO; one daughter, Virginia (Joseph) Luzbetak of Joliet; three grandchildren, Douglas (Melinda) Luzbetak of Ames, IA, David (Kathy) Luzbetak of Plainfield and James Luzbetak of Crest Hill; five great-grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca and Molly, Kaily and Dylan; three sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Survived by son Kenneth (Lois) Koleto and daughter Kathleen Laken; grandchildren Michael, Gregory and Christina Koleto, Joe (Pat) and David Laken and Jill (Steve) Meyer; three great-grandchildren; brother Bernard (Frances) Olszta; sisters-in-law Mary and Kay Olszta, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Ernest Koleto, parents Frank and Cecilia (Lewandowski) Olszta; brothers Chester, Francis and Leonard Olszta.
Born in Joliet, lifelong resident. Graduate of Providence Catholic High School, member of the Polish Alma Mater and Holy Cross Catholic Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir.

Anna Svazich (nee Macak)
Age 88, formerly of Joliet, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at Franciscan Care Center. She was born on December 10, 1912 in Joliet, Illinois the daughter of the late Martin and Barbara (Rehorich) Macak. On October 25, 1941, she married Rudolph Svazich in Joliet at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church. She was currently a member of St. Pius X Church in Appleton, and was a member of the St. Fracis De Sales Sodality of the KSKJ.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna (James) Hebert and their children, Denise (William) Dehart all of Appleton, David (Deanna) Hebert of Neenah, Daniel (Elizabeth) Hebert of Chesapeake, VA, and Richard (Amy) Hebert of Clifton, VA; her daughter, Marlene (Dennis) Mellinger and their children, Patricia (Michael) Smith, Maria (Andrew) Fischer, and Dennis (Carolyn) Mellinger all of Joliet, IL; many loving great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters, Mary Kozar, and Catherine Glavan; two brothers, Martin and John Macak; and a great grandchild Matthew Smith.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at 12:00 noon at St. Anne Catholic Church on Ludwig Street in Crest Hill, IL. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. A memorial fund is being established. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Franciscan Care Center for all of their loving care for Anna.

Martin H. "Butch" Chudy
Age 65, lifelong resident of the Joliet area, passed into the arms of the Lord on Monday, January 19, 2004 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center with his family at his side. Marty was born July 14, 1938 to the late Thomas R. and Marian (nee Ashway) Chudy. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Robert.
Survived by his son, Thomas M. (Jean) Chudy of Joliet; four daughters, Mary Ellen (Chris) Stout of Polatka, FL, Joanne (Mark) Hein of Tinley Park, Pamala (Randy) Burton of Joliet and Marci (Jason) Jordan of Tinley Park; two sisters, Rosemarie (Earl) Glisson of Largo, FL and Roberta Lathrop of Elmhurst; beloved friend of Linda Meyer of Indian Head Park, IL and Yvonne Chudy of Joliet; a devoted grandfather to Patricia, Jeffrey and Christian "Buzz" Chudy; Jason and Jared Polenik; Jessica, Rudy Andrew, Sarah and Matthew Hein; and Meaghan Burton; great grandchildren, Alex and Angela Carpenter-Hein. Several nieces, nephews and his dog, Max also survive.
Marty was an extremely proud, patriotic American, a true "Devil Dog" veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving at TwentyNine Palms, CA. He lived by the motto "SemperFi" all of his years. He graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1956. Previously employed with E.J.& E. Railroad. Retired from ComEd in 1994 after 28 years of service. Former President of the Belmont Little League Association; he coached baseball for several years. He was an avid golfer and huge NASCAR fan. He loved Volkswagons all of his life and spent untold hours restoring his most recent Bug. He was a gift to his grandchildren and they completely adored him. Marty will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
