Emil J. Pianca
Age 103. Passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Josephine (nee Calcaterra) Pianca, his parents and two sisters.
Survived by his children: Dolores "Dee" (late Larry) Baudino, Richard (Betty) Pianca, and Jacqueline (William) Fitzgerald, his grandchildren: Leonard (Geri) Baudino, Gary (Liz) Baudino, Annette (Donald) Birsa, Debra (Bruce) Tjelle, Rick (Veronica) Pianca, Kelly (Brad) Hansen and Tracy (Larry) Pellegrini, great grandchildren: Kimberly (Jason) Papes, Erin and Anna Baudino, Brianne and Taylor Birsa, Beth Tjelle, Rachel and Chelsey Pianca, Nicholas Fitzgerald, Andrew and Zachary Hansen, Carrigan, Gabrielle and Grant Pellegrini and great-great grandchildren: Miranda and Raella Papes, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Emil is retired from Poehner and Dillman Plumbing and Sheet Metal Co. He's Past President of Sheet Metal Workers Local. A Standing Member of American King Club, and National Pigeon Assn., achieving status as Master Breeder in later years.
Funeral services will be from the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Rd. on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 9:15 AM to St. Paul the Apostle Church for Mass at 10 AM. Internment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Friday, January 23, 2004 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations to Joliet Area Community Hospice or St. Paul the Apostle Church in Emil's name would be appreciated. Arrangements by:

Richard W. Riley "Dick"
Age 85. At rest Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. born in Galesburg, IL and a resident of Joliet the past 57 years. Former owner/operator of Eby-Brown Company of Joliet, Inc, retiring in 1996. A United States World War II Army Veteran. Member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, the Joliet Elks Lodge #296, American Legion Harwood Post #5 and the Joliet Country Club where he was an avid golfer. On July 10, 1995, Richard shot a hole-in-one with his first shot of the day at the Provena Saint Joseph Annual Golf Outing.
Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Mildred (nee Mahoney) Riley of Joliet; two sons, Patrick (Lois) Riley of Joliet and Michael Riley of New York City; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Daniel, Rebecca and Allson Riley; and a brother, Edward (Fran) Riley of Peoria.
Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irma Riley; and a sister, Barbara Behrens.
Funeral services for Richard W. Riley will be Monday, January 26, 2004 at 9:15 AM from the funeral home chapel to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Luciano R. Shaffer
Formerly of Crest Hill/Joliet and Lancaster, CA, passed away in McCook, NE, Sunday, January 18, 2004. Age 80 years.
Survived by his daughter Antoinette (Raymond) Furbee of McCook, NE, two sisters Margarete Tadey of Joliet and Georgine (Steve) Platko of Plainfield. A granddaughter Amanda Shaffer of Phoenix, AZ. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife Sally Ann Shaffer (nee Kluska) (2001) and his parents, George and Antonina Shaffer.
Veteran of W.W.II serving in the U.S. Navy on the Carrier U.S.S. Princeton. Member of the Knights of Columbus which he is 4th Degree Past Grand Knight.
Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. to St. Ann Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment St. Mary Nativity Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.

Jean K. Chalk (nee Gehrke)
Age 62, a Naperville resident since 1988, died Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at her home. She was born July 25, 1940 in Aurora, IL. Mrs. Chalk owned and operated her own residential cleaning service. She enjoyed family and friends and a strong commitment to her religious faith. She was a collector of koala and teddy bears, as well as angels.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Chalk of Naperville, IL, whom she married June 19, 1981, two step-children, Terri Chalk of Crest Hill, IL and Jennifer (Milo) Beckler of LaCrosse, WI, two grandchildren, Tiana and Brennan Beckler, two sisters, Eunice Von Hoff of Montgomery, IL and Helen (Robert) Bohnstedt of Naperville, IL, a brother, Rich (Shirley) Gehrke of Plainfield, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lela Gehrke and by six siblings, Howard, LeRoy, Don and Jerry Gehrke; Lois Cobb and Marian Williams.
Visitation will take place Sunday, January 26, 4-8 p.m. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL. Funeral services Monday, January 27, 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Preston Woods officiating. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park, Aurora, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of the donor's choice. Mathew W. Dulny
Age 82, late of Plainfield, Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center. born in Joliet, November 16, 1920, lifelong area resident. Retired form Caterpillar Tractor Co. after many years of service. World War II Army Veteran.
Preceded in death by his wife, Wanda (Lesniak), his parents, Frank and Anna Dulny, his brothers John, Frank and Walter Dulny, his sisters Josephine (Ed) Jankowski, and Lottie (Tony) Hermann.
Survived by his special niece Susan (Bill) Balicki and their daughters, Katie, Julie, Valerie and his beloved God-daughter Natalie Balicki, his sisters-in-law Stella "Dolly" Rodeghero, Josephine Dulny, Mary Duchene and Mary Zagoda, many other loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins and his "buddy" and physician of 23 years, Dr. Ramesh Patel.
Our Uncle Mat was a very special man. He will always be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, his "Holy Macherals" and for being the best Potica baker in the world. He was a generous, "gentle man" who had a heart of gold. Mat's family extends a special thank you to the fourth floor nurses at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Wish Upon A Star Foundation would be appreciated.

Harry A. Egan
Age 82, of LaSalle, IL. Passed away Monday, January 20, 2003 at 4:18 p.m. at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru, IL. He was born August 17, 1920 in Ladd, IL, the son of John and Rose (Campbell) Egan. He married Rita Scholle on June 18, 1949 in St. Joseph's Church in LaSalle. He worked for many years as a lock and dam operator. Mr. Egan served with the Army during World War II. He was also a member of Resurrection Church.
Mr. Egan is survived by his wife, Rita Egan of LaSalle, IL, two sons, Edward (Anne) Egan of Joliet and Joseph (Teresa) Egan of Wisconsin, four daughters, Mary Egan of California, Susan Egan of LaSalle, IL, Lois (Thomas) Hebelsen of Grayslake, IL and Rose Egan of Wisconsin, eight grandchildren and one sister, Catherine Dwornik of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John V.
Funeral Mass will take place Saturday, January 25, 2003 at 11 a.m. in Resurrection Church in LaSalle with Rev. Anthony Liss officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Webster Park, IL. Visitation will be Saturday, January 25, 2003 from 10-11 a.m. in Resurrection Church. The Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle in charge of arrangements.

Kay Marie Erickson
Age 68, Friday, January 17, 2003 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. born in Joliet and a lifelong resident. Retired from the Joliet Public Library after over 30 years of services. Member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
Survived by one brother, Wayne (Mary Lou) Erickson of Glen Ellyn, IL; loving aunt of six; devoted great-aunt of nine.
Preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Marie Erickson; one brother, Deane Erickson (casualty of WWII).
A Memorial Mass for Kay Marie Erickson will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet. Inurnment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Seth Robert Erickson
Age 14, went home to be with Jesus on January 21, 2003. He loved animals, the outdoors, riding and tinkering on his bikes, building things and spending time with family and friends. Seth attended Grompers Jr. High.
He is survived by his parents, Dale and Cathy Erickson, his paternal grandparents, Robert and Mamie Erickson, his siblings Melissa (David) Jones, Megan Mejia, Ashley Erickson and brother-in-law Timothy Burton. Seth will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Wallace and Evelyn Sippel, a brother, David Erickson, a sister, Michelle Burton and three nephews, Marcus Valadez, Nathan and George Grabavoy.
Visitation will be Saturday at First Assembly of God Church, 1741 Essington, Joliet, from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Chuck Rains of Fellowship Bible Church and Pastor Erik Thornton of First Assembly of God Church will be officiating. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.

Age 99. Sunday, January 19, 2003 in Arizona. Formerly of Lockport.
Survived by her daughter, Evelyn (Robert) Markelz, son Fred (Linda) Fracaro, granddaughter Tracie (Brad) Sanders.
Born in Italy. She was a lifelong resident of Lockport before moving to Arizona.
Preceded in death by her husband, Jack Fracaro, daughter, Mary Fracaro, grandson Russell Fracaro, two brothers, Mike and Columbo Minella, two sisters, Rica and Emma Vercelotti.
Family will receive friends at the Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 S. Hamilton St. Friday, January 24, 2003 from 9 a.m. until time of Prayer Services at 11 a. m. and then to St. Dennis Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Interment Calvary Cemetery.

Darwin D. Gunderson "Gundy"
Age 75. born November 23, 1927 in Joliet and a lifelong resident. Passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center. Retired from Joliet Township High School in 1992. He owned and operated Texaco and Clark service stations for several years. A United States Air Force Veteran. Member of Cantigny Post #367 V.F.W. Avid fisherman, enjoyed woodworking and spending time in Wisconsin.
Survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jean (Bloch) Gunderson of Joliet, four children, Sharon (Robert) Seguin of Manhattan, Randy (Kathy) Gunderson of Minooka, Diane Gunderson of Joliet and Pam (John) Alexander of Romeoville; seven grandchildren, Lynn (Brian), Brad, Josh (Dawn), Jill, Brandon, Sean and Jessica; five great grandchildren, Jalen, Haley, Hannah, Samantha and Jacob. His aunt, Irene Emerson; sister-in-laws Helen Warsaw and Dorothy Bloch; brother-in-law Jim (Donna) Bloch, along with numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents and in-laws and special pet Ozzie.
The family would like to thank the 8th floor nurses and aids at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, the 4th floor nurses and aids at Salem Village and all his doctors.
Visitation Friday, January 24, 2003 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home. At his request, cremation rites will be accorded, with inurnment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the donor's choice appreciated.
