Madge Lindberg
Funeral services for Madge Brady Lindberg, 96, formerly of Barrington, were held April 5, 2001 at Seals Cambell Funeral Home, Marseilles, Ill. born March 19, 1905, she died April 2, 2001.
Mrs. Lindberg was a member of the Barrington United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Muriel Shealy; three granddaughters, Kathleen Harris, Carol Hoffman and Kathy Gillen; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Floyd, whom she married in 1926; a daughter, Leone Hoffman; and a granddaughter, Linda Hoffman.
Elizabeth Widhelm
A prayer service for Elizabeth Cheney Widhelm, a resident of Barrington for 70 years, was held Tuesday at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, Barrington. Mrs. Widhelm died April 7, 2001 at Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington.
Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. April 23 at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Mrs. Widhelm worked for Kemper Insurance for 14 years.
Ms. Widhelm is survived by her children, John (Jennifer) of San Antonio, Texas, Wendy Widhelm Tedder of Atlanta, Ga., and Sally (William) Bilodeau of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; six grandchildren; and her extended family of four Farnsworth nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. William John “Gus,” whom she married Jan. 4, 1943, in Glenview. He was a World War II naval aviator who was awarded a Navy Cross and the Distinguished Flying Cross. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Farnsworth.
Jean M. Talarski
A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. James Church, Arlington Heights, for Jean M. Talarski (nee Osadowski), 84, formerly of Arlington Heights and Barrington. born Dec. 16, 1916, in Chicago, she died May 3, 2001 at Lexington Health Care Center of Lake Zurich.
Before retiring, Mrs. Talarski was a clerical worker. She is survived by a daughter, Jackie (Smizinski) of Wauconda; grandchildren Deborah (Mack) Cudak, Lynn (Scott) Queen, Sharon (Duke) Tobin and Matthew Smizinski; and great-grandchildren Ethan, Conrad, Aaron and Duke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; and a son-in-law, Dennis.
Burial was in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 126 N. Des Plaines, Chicago IL 60606-6696. Arrangements were made with the Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., Arlington Heights.
Rosemary Garrabrant
A funeral Mass for Rosemary (nee Katcher) Garrabrant, 83, of Barrington, will be celebrated at 7 p.m. today (June 3, 2004) at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness, where visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the Mass. The Rev. John Guiney will officiate.
Born June 14, 1920, in Streator, Ill., Mrs. Garrabrant died May 30 in Palm Desert, Calif. She began her career as an executive assistant at IBM in Chicago, and later became a Realtor at Stark & Co. in Barrington for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Garrabrant is survived by her children, Sally Ann (Bruce) Stanley of Mountainville, N.Y., Gary Robert (Susan) of Chicago and Scott Joseph of Palm Desert; and five grandchildren, Jenna (Randy) Dueck, Nicole Stanley, Erica Stanley, Katherine and Elizabeth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George H.; and two sisters, Lucille West and Delores Schroll.
Private entombment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 80 W. Northwest Highway, Palatine IL 60067; or Misericordia Heart of Mercy Home, 6300 N. Ridge Ave., Chicago IL 60660. Arrangements were made with the Davenport Family Funeral Home, Barrington.
Magdalena Nuss
Magdalena (nee Bucher) Nuss, 93, a resident of Asbury Court in Des Plaines for the past six years, died May 14, 2004 at Holy Family Medical Center, Des Plaines.
Born in Chicago on Sept. 7, 1910, she previously lived in Arlington Heights. In the 1950s, she owned and operated a beauty parlor in Barrington. She also worked for 20 years as bookkeeper and payroll accountant for Universal Moulding in Palatine.
Mrs. Nuss was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Arlington Heights Seniors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl J.; and a son, Carl E.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Ken) Lundgren of Park Ridge; grandchildren Scott W. Graham and Rick A. Graham of Bristol, Wis., and Gary and Dennis Lundgren of Des Plaines.
An Eastern Star memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Burial was in Sable, Idaho. Olson Burke/Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Center was in charge of the arrangements.
Harry J. Pratt
Harry James Pratt, 84, a resident of Barrington since 1968, died May 29, 2004 in Lake Barrington. He was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Erie, Pa.
Mr. Pratt was a retired vice president of Borg-Warner in Chicago. He was a member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge #362 in Erie. He was a nobel in the Kosair Shriners in Louisville, Ky., and also a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine M. (nee Starks), whom he married April 28, 1943, in Erie; two daughters, Karen Lee (James) Peiffer of Evergreen, Colo., and Barbara Ann (Brent) Miller of Cary; and four grandchildren, Heather and Scott Peiffer, and Lisa and Julie Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry James Sr. and Cecile (nee Reinhart); and a granddaughter, Kimberly Peiffer.
Services were private. Interment was in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements were made with Davenport Family Funeral Home, Barrington.
Jeannette T. Bolger
A funeral Mass for Jeannette T. (née Brophy) Bolger, 84, a resident of Tower Lakes Estates for 37 years, was celebrated July 11, 2005 at Transfiguration Church, Wauconda. She was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Rockford, Ill., to the late James and Lillian Brophy.
Mrs. Bolger graduated in 1942 from St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford as a registered nurse, serving in the nursing profession for more than 50 years. She was director of nursing at Town Hall Estates in Wauconda, where she worked for 25 years, and was a longtime member and board member of the Barrington Area Nurses Organization. She was a charter member of the Women of Independent Means Club. She lived among numerous friends and wonderful neighbors. She was also an avid bridge player.
Annual trips with a group of friends allowed her to travel extensively throughout Europe, kiss the Blarney Stone in Ireland, ride a camel in Egypt, land on a glacier in Alaska, and visit other far-away destinations including Australia and New Zealand. She cherished most the times she spent each summer at her lakeside home with her family.
Mrs. Bolger is survived by five children, Bill (Mary) of Boyne City, Mich., Jeanne (the late Sonny) Jones of Fort Worth, Texas, Jim (Eileen) of Whitehall, Mich., Pati (Ed) Schaefer of Tower Lakes and Tom (Mary Kay) of Tower Lakes; 15 grandchildren, Christine, Will, Tom, Mike, Jase, Mike, Danny, Matt, Eric, Jennifer, Katie, Lizzie, Patrick, Tess and Joe; and 17 great-grandchildren, Matt, Blake, Chloe, Nick, Haley, Megan, Hannah, Sarah, Emily, Nick, Dylan, Tristan, Katie, Ethan, Rachel, Claudia and Ryan. Since 2004, she was provided loving care by Krystyna Orthwein.
Memorial contributions to the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, 801 Roeder Road, Silver Springs MD 20910 are appreciated. Arrangements were made with the Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home, Wauconda.
Kenneth H. Coughlin
Visitation for Kenneth H. Coughlin, 87, a 27-year resident of Barrington, will be held from 6-8 p.m. today (July 14, 2005) at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St., Barrington. Services and interment will be private.
Born April 4, 1918, in Chicago, Mr. Coughlin died peacefully July 11, 2005 at Manor Care in Rolling Meadows. Before retirement, he was vice president of sales and marketing for Blackhawk Molding Co. in Addison, where he was employed for more than 40 years. He was a former trustee of the Village of Niles and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a baseball fan and enjoyed gardening, golf, fishing, reading and spending time in his home with his family.
Mr. Coughlin is survived by his wife, LaVerne B. (née Carlson), whom he married May 19, 1944, in Chicago; a daughter, Regina (Blaine) Schmolz of North Barrington; a grandson, Darin (fiancée Amy Pines) Schmolz, both of Chicago; a sister, Jane (Royel) Murvin of Banning, Calif.; and an uncle, Roy McCutchen of Norwalk, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Charlotte (née McCutchen).

Janet B. Johnson
Janet Bard Johnson, 92, a Barrington Hills pioneer, died July 6, 2005 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington from complications resulting from lung cancer. She was born Dec. 31, 1912, at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago.
Mrs. Johnson grew up in Highland Park, graduated from Roycemore School in Evanston, attended Vassar College and received a bachelor of music degree from the Chicago Cosmopolitan School of Music. She went to work in the bridal department of Marshall Field and Co., where she met the sister of her future husband, Thomas J. Johnson Jr., a promising young attorney.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were married on Jan. 4, 1941. Her husband was sworn into the Army Air Corps, and they moved to Washington, D.C., where her father, Ralph A. Bard Sr., was serving as under secretary of the Navy. He was the sole member of Truman's Commission to oppose dropping the atomic bomb on Japan.
With her husband away at war, this plucky lady went house hunting and purchased the house that she lived in for nearly 60 years. It was 1946, and Mrs. Johnson fell in love with "Shadowbrook: A Pleasant Home in the Barrington Countryside," as it was described in the original brochure.
At the same time, her brother, Ralph A. Bard Jr., purchased a home in Barrington that he shared with Mrs. Johnson until her house was ready. Later, their brother, George, her uncle, Norwood Bard, and his two daughters all settled in the area. Everyone describes Mrs. Johnson as completely devoted to her family and friends.
Mrs. Johnson was an avid gardener and music lover. She subscribed to and supported the Lyric Opera and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for more than 50 years. She was an active member of the Garden Club of America. She never lost her enthusiasm for activity. Until she was 90, she swam every day and made an annual "girls" trip to Idaho to cross-country ski. She played tennis and bridge and was a member of the Barrington Play Reading Group for many years, until her husband died in 1991. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her four children, Janet (Henry J. Underwood Jr.), William (Cheri Ferbrache), Michael (Patricia) and Timothy (Valerie Wiley); her brother, George Bard; and her grandchildren, Sarah, Austin, Ben and Lexi Johnson, and Patrick and Lucy Underwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington VA 22203; or the Lyric Opera of Chicago, 20 N. Wacker Drive, Chicago IL 60606 are appreciated. James F. Kearney
Mass of Christian Burial for James F. Kearney, 73, of South Barrington, will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at St. Anne Church, corner of Franklin and Ela streets in Barrington. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Father Britto Berchmans will officiate.
Born Aug. 10, 1931, in Chicago, he died July 11, 2005 at home. Most recently, Mr. Kearney was a partner at E.M.D. Technologies in Bensenville. He retired from the Xerox Corporation and was a former employee at Teletype. He also served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Kearney was a member of the Rolls Royce Enthusiast Club and recently received his Irish citizenship. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, gadgets, and researching his genealogy.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (née Willis), whom he married Jan. 25, 1975, in Forest Park; his three children, Lisa of Denver and Megan and Jason of South Barrington; and his brothers, John (the late Millie) and Thomas (Patricia).

Edward F. Konopasek
Edward F. Konopasek, 73, of Barrington, died July 5, 2005 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. He was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Chicago, to Edward and Emily (née Sekera) Konopasek.
Mr. Konopasek founded Eagle Fastener Corp. in Crystal Lake. He was an avid outdoorsman. He served in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Cooley, whom he married July 24, 1954, in Elgin; three children, Victoria (Richard) Huck of Woodstock, Edward S. (Zerelda) of Cary and Deonne of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jared, Edward, Courtney and Emily; and a sister-in-law, Shirley of Fox River Grove.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene.
Funeral services were held July 11 at the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, Cary. The Rev. Timothy Biel Jr. officiated. Memorials may be made to the ESK Scholarship Fund.
Mary Jane Zidek
Mary Jane Zidek, 84, a former 60-year resident of Barrington, died June 5, 2005.
She is survived by her son, Jon H.; and two brothers, Jon H. and Glenn Hargrave.
Thomas L. Deger
A funeral Mass for Thomas Leo Deger, 73, of Barrington, formerly of Palatine, was celebrated July 25, 2003 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Barrington. born Dec. 22, 1929, in Chicago, he died July 20, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Deger was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and had been employed as a consulting engineer by Robert G. Burkhardt & Associates. He was an active volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the A.S.H.R.A.E., and a lector at St. Anne Catholic Church.
Mr. Deger is survived by his wife, Dorothy (nee Korzep), whom he married Sept. 12, 1953; five children, Gregory A. (Lynn) of Palatine, Phillip H. (Deborah) of St. Cloud, Minn., James L. of Chicago, Karen (Ken) McChesney of Aurora, Colo., and Paul T. (Cindy) of Denver; his grandchildren, Kevin, Gwendolyn, Hannah, Corinne, Todd, Noah and Kenny; a sister, Sister Mary Irene Deger; two brothers, William E. and Robert H.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joel; his parents, Leo and Nina; and a brother, John O.
Burial was private. Memorials may be made to the St. Anne Catholic Church Building Fund, 120 N. Ela St., Barrington IL 60010.

Elizabeth Liebman
Funeral services for Elizabeth M. "Beth" Liebman (nee Sadler), 45, of Barrington, will be held in Wayland, Mass. A local memorial service will be held at later date.
Born Oct. 21, 1957, in Worcester, Mass., Mrs. Liebman died July 25, 2003 at her home. She was a 1979 graduate of Lake Forest College. She was a treasured partner in renovation projects.
Mrs. Liebman is survived by her husband, Thomas; three sisters, Ann Marie (Loreto) Gentilucci, Kathleen (James) Henderson and Eileen (Kurt) Badstubner; and nieces and nephews Christine, Stephanie, John, Michael, Jeffrey and Anna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul E. and Nancy Sadler.
