Age 79, Wednesday, January 23, 2001 in his home after a lengthy illness. Late of Lockport.
Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Millicent (Gattens) Pollak; two sons, Michael John Pollak, Jay (Cheryl) Pollak; one daughter, Mrs. Carla (Michael) Yankala; five grandchildren, Karen (Wade) Rinkenberger, Kristin Hill, Robyn (Jon) Gislain, Alicia Pollak and Joshua Pollak; five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Harriett Roberts, Lois (Gordon) Defore.
Born in Kangley, IL living in Wilmington and Lockport area most of his life.
Mr. Pollak was a carpenter for Local 174 since 1938.
Preceded in death by his parents Theodore & Gladys (Reeder) Pollak and one sister Grace Mallonee.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Memorials to the American Lung or Heart Association would be appreciated.

Joyce B. Sumner (nee Decker)
Age 65, of Essex, IL, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2001 at the Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL. born October 6, 1935 in Leitchfield, KY to the late Fount and Blanche (nee Ashley) Decker. Joyce was an expert seamstress. She enjoyed her grandchildren and collecting teapots. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Essex and the Essex Lady Lions. Surviving are one daughter, April (Eric) Mickelson of Limestone, IL; two sons, Brian Sumner of Essex and Steve (Ronda) Sumner of Limestone; four grandchildren, Jodi DuMontelle, Leigh Woodard, Rachel and Carly Sumner; two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Zachary DuMontelle; two sisters, Linda (Walter) Bradley and Louise (John) Jensen, both of Carbon Hill, IL; one brother, Kenneth (Joanne) Decker of Carbon Hill; two sisters-in-law, Mary Decker of Eileen, IL and Genevieve Bryant of Essex; one brother-in-law, Thomas (Violet) Decker of Flippin, AR; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Sumner, whom she married August 1, 1953 in Coal City, IL; and a brother, Boyd Decker.
Funeral services will be held at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd., Braidwood Chapel, Saturday, January 27 at 11 AM. Interment North Cemetery in Essex, IL. Visitation Friday, January 26 from 4-8 PM. Memorials in her name to the United Methodist Church or the Essex Fire Department would be appreciated.

Antoinette B. Vanisko "Ann" (nee Dolinsek)
Age 84. Passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2001 in Kalamazoo, MI. born in Dupue, IL, January 10, 1917. A lifetime Joliet area resident. Employed by the Joliet Arsenal (APSA) retiring in 1975. A lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church Rosarian Club.
Preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Vanisko (1972); parents, Leopold and Theresa Dolinsek; one sister, Mary Doll; and one brother, Leo (Margaret) Dolinsek.
Surviving are one son, Richard Vanisko of Elwood, IL; one daughter, Bernadine "Bernie" (Thomas) Phelps of Parchment, MI; five granddaughters; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine "Jo" (late Robert) Dalian and Frances "Fran" (late Bernard) Stahl both of Joliet. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Memorial Mass for Antoinette B. Vanisko will be held Saturday, January 27, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Inurnment St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials in her memory to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Services, 348 N. Burdik, Kalamazoo, MI 49007 would be appreciated. NO VISITATION. Arrangements by:

Charlotte E. Warthen (Nee Button)
Age 86, late of Lockport, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at Lemont Center Nursing Home. born in Joliet, life long area resident.
Member of United Methodist Church of New Lenox and former member of Trinity Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband Perry, her parents, Morgan and Elizabeth (Gould) Button, two brothers Milton and Vernon Button.
Survived by two sons James and David (Elaine) both of Lockport, one daughter Virginia (James) Holbert of Naperville, five grandchildren and three great grandsons, several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials to United Methodist Church of New Lenox or Trinity Methodist Church would be appreciated.

Age 57. Thursday, January 23, 2003 at Silver Cross Hospital.
Survived by her mother, Helene (Dannenberg) Austin; two sisters, Mary Ann (Raymond) Hibner and Carolyn Lee Jerome; one aunt, Marie (Joe) Wilber. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by her father, James B. Austin.
Born in Joliet, a lifelong resident. Member of Ingalls Park United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 27, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Berman officiating. Visitation Sunday 1-6 p.m. Memorials to the Ingalls Park United Methodist Church would be app.

Frank B. Benedict
Of Joliet, at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, Thursday, January 23, 2003. Age 82 years.
Survived by a son, Daniel (Mary Lou) Benedict and a granddaughter, Danielle Benedict, all of Joliet. Also several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary (1988), a granddaughter, Megan Benedict (1993) and a sister, Veronica Astorino.
Born in Hungary and has lived most of his life in Joliet. Retired iron worker out of the Chicago Local. Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Frank was an avid antique car enthusiast. Member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Holy Trinity Council #4400.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Sunday, January 26 at 4 p.m. with Fr. Richard Ross officiating. Cremation will follow services with interment of ashes in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Bernard's Church will be appreciated. Visitation will be Sunday 1 p.m. until time of services.

Virginia R. Blotnik
At rest Saturday, January 25, 2003 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. born June 30, 1921 in Joliet and a lifelong resident. Graduate of St. Raymond Grade School and Joliet Township High School. Lifetime member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus. A dedicated supporter of many charities throughout the Joliet area including numerous local catholic and church related charities.
Preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Louise (nee Dalian) Blotnik; four brothers, Frank, Louis, Joseph (Viola) and Peter (Frances) Blotnik; five sisters, Katherine (J. Edwin) Boelte, Elizabeth (Charles) Stein, Leona (Frank) Trapper, Margaret and Marie; and a niece, Ruth Ann Schuldt.
Survived by her faithful and loving nephew, Thomas L. (Patricia) Blotnik of Joliet; also nephews, John (Jan) Boelte of Mandaville, LA and Gerald (Hedy) Boelte of Pearlington, MS; nieces, Carolyn (John) Sanford of New Orleans, LA and Patricia (Dean) York of Creve Courer, IL. Numerous great nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Vida Hall; and several dear friends also survive.
Funeral Services for Virginia R. Blotnik will be Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at 9:15 AM from the funeral home chapel to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Arthur P. Cunico
Age 90, late of Lockport, Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at Paradise Valley Hospital, Phoenix, AZ. born in Van Houten, N.M., living in Lockport most of his life. Employed by Texaco, Inc for 39 years, retiring in 1975. Life member of the Lockport Moose Lodge #1557. An avid Cub fan and enjoyed traveling with his son David. They traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Caribbean Islands, Mexico and Canada. Art and David spent three years wintering in Naples, FL before wintering the past six years in Phoenix, AZ.
Preceded in death by his wife, Vita (Welsh), his parents, Anthony and Marie (Forte) Cunico, his brothers Joseph, James, Chris, Willard, Anthony and Allen.
Survived by his sons David Cunico of Lockport and Richard (Shirley) Imrie of Joliet, two grandchildren Patti (Tom) Norman and Michael (Luanne) Imrie, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Peter J. Escobedo
Age 71, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 24, 2003 at home. born in Blue Island, IL on June 3, 1931, retired as a manager of the Auto Center from Montgomery Wards in 1992, a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Peter is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Margaret (nee Diaz); his beloved children Linda Kelleher and Peter J. Escobedo Jr. (Tami). He is the proud grandfather of Michael Escobedo and Brian and Steven Kelleher. Peter is also survived by his sisters, Margaret Ramirez of Blue Island, IL, Jessie Briola of Los Angeles, CA and a brother, Robert Escobedo of Merrillville, IN. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Carlota Escobedo, and a brother, Raymond Escobedo.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Westwood Memorial Chapel, 3201 W. Jefferson St., with Father Ray Corkery officiating. Interment will follow at Hills Of Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2-8 p.m. For additional information:

Howard Henry Handorf
The farming community of Will County, IL. lost one of their members Monday, January 20, 2003.
Age 74. Passed away at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, AZ.
Howard was born may 14, 1928 in New Lenox, IL. Farmed in New Lenox, IL. until the age of 71. Retired to Tucson, AZ. in April of 2000.
He was an active member of 4-H as a youth. Served as a member of the New Lenox School board. Was a life long Farm Bureau member.
Survived by his best friend & very loving, caring wife of 55 years, Geraldine F. (Miller) Handorf. A dedicated and loving father of four children, Kathy (Robert) Bowser of Durango, CO., Jim Handorf of Tucson, AZ., Janet Barnett of Tucson, AZ., Joel (Sharon) Handorf of Elwood, IL. ten grandchildren, Rob, Tracey & Niki Bowser, Shannon & Cass McCure, Brittney & Nicole Handorf, Eric & Josh Barnett, Hannah Handorf, five great-grandchildren, three sisters, Doris Handorf, Ethel Bruns, Wilma Yapp, one brother, John (Anita) Handorf, brother in-law Harwood Stellwagon, uncle of many nieces & nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, John & Mary (Beckwith) Handorf, daughter, Karen (Handorf) McCure (May 22, 2002), sisters, Marion Handorf, Alma Stellwagon, brother, Elmer Handorf, brother-in-laws, Dave Bruns, George Yapp.
Howard will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Howard fought a long battle with heart disease. He lived life to the fullest. He now joins Karen his daughter in heaven along with Pouka his cat.
At Howard's request cremation services took place at Evergreen Mortuary in Tucson, AZ.
