Harold W. Streitmatter, 95, of Princeville, died at 7:10 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2002, at his residence.
Born January 26, 1907, in Speer, Illinois, the son of William E. and Frieda Feucht Streitmatter, he married Anna L. Elsasser January 27, 1935, in Princeville. She died June 18, 1990, in Peoria. Also preceding him in death was 1 brother, Burton Streitmatter.
Surviving are 5 sons, Norman (and Joyce) Streitmatter of Elmwood, IL, Floran (and Twylla) Streitmatter of Brimfield, IL, Richard (and Mary) Streitmatter of Morton, IL, William (and Diane) Streitmatter of Princeville, IL, and Cleon (and Linda) Streitmatter of Peoria, IL; 2 daughters, Arlene (and Robert) Scholl and Mary Jane Streitmatter both of Princeville, IL; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.
He served on the board of trustees of the Apostolic Christian Home, Eureka, Illinois, for 11 years, initially serving on the building committee. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church, Princeville, where he served on the building committee when the present church was built in 1969.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 25, 2002, at Apostolic Christian Church, Princeville. Ministers of the church officiated. Visitation was held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2002, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home and also from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Josephine J. Lawrence, 98, of Princeville, died 9:20 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2002, at her residence.
Born August 24, 1904, in Jubilee Township, Peoria County, Illinois, the daughter of George John and Margaret Catherine Mosley Schneider, she married Clifford A. Lawrence June 25, 1925, in Princeville. He died July 11, 1977.
Surviving are 4 daughters, Jeanne (and Robert) Wear of St. Paul, Minnesota., Leona (and Ray) Ralph of Lakeside Park, Kentucky, Betty (and Harold) Meisinger of Pekin, Illinois, and Charlotte (and Kenneth) Harlan of Princeville, Illinois; 2 sons, Clifford Lawrence of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jerry Lawrence of Gassville, Arkansas;
6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Ralph and Charles Schneider, and one grandchild preceded her in death.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Princeville, and Wyoming. Chapter 8, Order of Eastern Star.
Private family services were held at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery, Princeville.

Sandra S. Hawksworth, 58, of Princeville, died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at her residence. She was born August 14, 1944, in Kewanee, Illinois, the daughter of Jacob and Loretta Tracy McBride. She married Joseph E. Hawksworth in 1964 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are 1 son, Travis Hawksworth of Chillicothe, Ill.; 4 daughters, Robin Renee Peterson and Lori (Gary) Potter both of Chillicothe, Ill.; Kendra (Kennard) White of Port Orange, Florida; and Jo-Rita (Terry) Adams of Luttrell, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 1 brother, Richard (Doris) McBride of Sequin, Tex.; and 3 sisters, Donetta (Daniel) Berchtold and Joann Eaton both of Wyoming., Ill.; and Peggy Young of Kewanee, Ill. Her parents and one brother, Jacob McBride preceded her in death.
She worked as a lawn sprinkler assembler for L.R. Nelson, Princeville.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2003, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. Visitation was held from 6 til 8 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home. Burial was in Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria.

William Edward Cahill, 86, of 511 S. Seventh, died at 7:35 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Nazarethville Nursing Home, Des Plaines, Ill. He was born August 6, 1916, in Wyoming., Illinois, the son of William G. and Margaret Colgan Cahill. He married Margaret Murphy on July 17, 1943, in Los Angeles, Calif. She survives.
Also surviving are 5 daughters, Colleen (John) Matthys of Bellevue, Wash.; Rosemary (John) Butterfield of Park Ridge, Ill.; Karen (William) Walsh of Arlington Heights, Ill.; Maureen Cahill of Mt. Prospect, Ill.; and Denise Cahill of Des Plaines, Ill.; 3 sons, William (Carol) Cahill of Elmhurst, Ill.; Kevin (Sharon) Cahill of Aurora, Ill.; and Francis (Diane) Cahill of Franklin Grove, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Sister Marie William “Alice” Cahill of Sinsinawa, Wis. His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran serving in the 483rd group 815 bomber squadron, and was a member of the Wyoming. American Legion Post #91. He also was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a Stark County farmer, and he worked for Breese Corporation in Wyoming., retiring in 1982.
He was a member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Wyoming., where funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2003. Rev. Robert Rayson officiated. Visitation was held from 6 til 9 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Wyoming. Funeral Home with recitation of Rosary at 8:30 p.m. Burial was be in St. Dominic’s Cemetery, Wyoming..

Samuel K. Bennett, 29, of Toulon, Illinois, died at 1:52 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003 at the emergency room of Kewanee Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, at Rux Funeral Homein Kewanee. The Reverend Ronald Toliver officiated. Visitation was held from 5 – 8 p.m., Sunday, June 15, 2003, at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be directed to an education fund for his daughter care of Whaples & Farmers State Bank in Neponset, Illinois.
Sam was born on November 29, 1973, in Kewanee, the son of John H. and Dianne E. (Kramer) Bennett. He is survived by his parents of Neponset, Illinois; one daughter, Heaven Danyele Bennett of Buda, Illinois; and two brothers, John S. Bennett of Neponset, Illinois, and Rodney H. (Jamie) Bennett of Danvers, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Milda Kramer and paternal grandparents, Howard and Jane Bennett.
Sam graduated from Neponset High School in 1993. He was a farm laborer for St. John’s farm in Toulon, Illinois. He attended the Congregational Church in Neponset, Illinois. His hobbies included riding motorcycles, hunting and fishing.
Dorothy Cox 83, formerly of LaFayette, died 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Kewanee Care Nursing Home, Kewanee, where she was a resident. She was born July 3, 1919, in Toulon, Illinois, the daughter of Clayton and Jenny Beam Cox.
Surviving are 1 sister, Marie Haptonstall of Kewanee, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, three brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.
She was a member of LaFayette United Methodist Church, LaFayette.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2003, at Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee. There was no visitation. Rev. Bill Bunnage officiated. DeBolt-Kidd Funeral Home, Toulon, was in charge of arrangements.
Preston E. Keller, 89, of Princeville, died at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Heritage Manor in Chillicothe, where he had been the past 14 months. He was born April 5, 1914, in Princeville, Illinois, the son of Riley and Bessie Ayres Keller. He married Marjorie Williams Bohannan. She survives.
Also surviving are 1 step-daughter, Vickie (Gene) Bush of Dunlap, Ill.; 1 step-son, Lonnie (Cindy) Bohannan of Dunlap, Ill.; 3 step-grandsons; and 2 step-granddaughters. His parents, one son, Randy Keller, and one brother, Karl Keller preceded him in death.
He was a World War II Army Veteran, serving from 1941 to 1945, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post # 248, in Princeville, where he served as past commander.
He farmed in the Princeville area, retiring in 1966. He later worked for Home Comfort and L.R. Nelson in Princeville. He was a member of the Princeville Cemetery Association for several years and also a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Princeville.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Princeville Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #248, Princeville. Visitation was held from 6 til 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville.

Anna L. Martzluf, 85, of Bradford (formerly of Kickapoo) died at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Rosewood Nursing Home, Peoria.
She was born February 17, 1918, in Kickapoo, Illinois, the daughter of Adam and Mary Jane Backes Heinz. She married Eldred H. Martzluf on October 22, 1936, in Kickapoo. He preceded her in death on October 30. 2002.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Jean A. (Robert) Plotner, Tiskilwa, Illinois, and Mary J. (John) Plotner, Santa Ana, California, and a step-great grandson, Donovan Sampson of Bettendorf, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and a grandson, Brian E. Plotner.
Anna was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Kickapoo and St. Mary’s Altar & Rosary Society. She was a homemaker and also worked in housekeeping at Buehler Home, Orange Prairie Motel and Bradley University, all in Peoria.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be at a later date. Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Bradford, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Bradford Rescue Squad or to her Church.
Jesse C. Hansard, 73, formerly of Wyoming., Ill. died 9:35 a.m.Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Heritage Manor, Chillicothe, Ill., where he was a resident.
He was born November 27, 1929, in Knox County, Tennessee, the son of Frank and Sarah Bridges Hansard, he married Joyce Weaver on January 7, 1951, in Clinton, Tenn. She died March 23, 1997, in Peoria, Ill.
Surviving are 7 daughters, Peggy (Richard) Scott of Laredo, Mo., Rita (Jim) Dougan of Princeton, Ind., Deborah (Dan) Hepner of Brownstown, Ind., Linda (Ed) Thrasher of LaFayette, Ill., Barbara Begner and Vicki (Stephen) Pollack both of Chillicothe, Ill., and Pam (Lynn) Eberle of Wyoming., Ill.; 4 sons, Stanley Hansard of Bartonville, Ill., Terry (Regina) Hansard of Peoria, Ill., Rick (Sheree) Hansard of Morton, Ill., and Steve (Julie) Hansard of Wyoming., Ill.; 29 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Cordie Hill of Lake City, Tenn. His parents, and two brothers, Fred Hansard and Roy Hansard preceded him in death.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1955 during the Korean War. He was a truck driver for Ezra Rumbold & Sons for 35 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Toulon, Ill.

Virginia M. Donath, 70, of Kewanee, formerly of Chandler, Arizona, died at 5:22 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, in the emergency room of Kewanee Hospital. She was born November 11, 1932, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of Guy and Virginia L. Tucker Gibbs. She married William Donath on September 3, 1952, in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are 3 sisters, Cleo McLaughlin of Dunlap, Ill.;Kay (Lawrence) Bartman of Galva, Ill.; and Susette (Tom) Tegtmeyer of Bonita Springs, Flor.; 1 brother, Dale (Darlene) Gibbs of Roseville, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded her in death.
A 1950 graduate of Dunlap High School, she was a bookkeeper for Empire Machinery in Mesa, Ariz. She later worked as a secretary for Arrow Realty, Kewanee. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid antique collector.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 7, 2003, 10:30 a.m. at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. Deacon Robert Murphy officiated. Visitation was from 6 til 8 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home. Burial was in Blue Ridge Cemetery, rural Chillicothe. Kermit A. Newton, 79, of rural Wyoming., died at 2:14 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island, Ill. He was born August 1, 1923, in Stark County, Ill., the son of Glen and Averil Leadley Newton. He married Virginia Graham March 21, 1948, in Aurora, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are 3 daughters, Pamela (Larry) Ingle of Toulon, Ill.; Karen (Phillip) Koeppel and Terry (Steve) Fritz both of Wyoming., Ill.; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Audrey Newton of Lincoln, Neb. His parents and one granddaughter preceded him in death.
He farmed in the Wyoming. area and was a Griffith Seed Corn Dealer for many years. He also was a local carpenter and woodworker.
He was a member of the Wyoming. American Legion Post #91, and was a World War II Army Veteran, serving in the European Theater. He was a member of the Stark County Farm Bureau and was on the Wyoming. Grade School Board for many years. He also was a member of the Wyoming. Congregational United Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, at the Wyoming. Funeral Home, Wyoming.. Reverend Pamela Smith officiated. Burial was in the Snareville Cemetery, rural Wyoming..

Ronald J. “Ronnie” DeClerk, 64, of Kewanee, was pronounced dead at 1:33 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2003, in rural Stark County. His death was from natural causes. He was born on July 22, 1938, in Bishop Hill, Ill., the son of Albert and Ruby Wiley DeClerk. He married Linda J. Warren on June 20, 1975, in Oswego, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are six daughters, Denise (Gary) Holderness of Kewanee; Stephanie (Tom) Rogers of Chesapeake, Virginia; Regina (Duane) Gillespie of Kewanee; Kelly Warren of Roger, Arkansas, and Jennifer and Amanda DeClerk, both of Kewanee; one son, Terry (Penny) Warren of Toulon; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Frank DeClerk of Kewanee, and Larry (Mo) DeClerk of Dixon, Ill., and one sister, Dolores Fredrickson of Galva. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons in infancy, Ronald Jr. and Dennis.
He had worked as a maintenance engineer at the Caterpillar Plant in Aurora for a number of years until he retired in 1993. He had served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Kewanee. He was also a member of the Kewanee YMCA. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, swimming and attending the USS Ranger Reunions which was the navy ship he served on.
Funeral services will be on Friday, June 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Kewanee. Brian Giese will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 5, 2003, from 6-8 p.m. at the Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Burial will be in the Red Oak Cemetery, rural Bishop Hill. Military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials can be directed to the First Christian Church or to the Salvation Army.
Verna M. Barnes, 94, of Bradford, Ill. passed away Monday, May 19, 2003 at 8:22 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Lacon. She was born April 8, 1909, in Princeville, Ill. the daughter of Nicholas Fink and Mary (Carrigan) Fink. She married Leonard Barnes on May 21, 1938, in Wyoming., Ill. He passed away December 14, 1976.
Surviving are a son, Jack Barnes of Placenta, California. and 3 daughters, Rosanne Myers of Peoria, Ill; Marianne (Floyd) Walker of Burleson, Tex.; Evelyn Freeman of Rockford, Ill.; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her parents, husband and 2 brothers, Walter and Clement Finck, and a sister, Isla Barry, preceded her in death.
A graduate of Academy of Our Lady in Peoria, she attended Western Illinois University, was a former school teacher in Stark County and former librarian in Bradford, Ill. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Bradford and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society at her church.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2003, at St. John the Baptist Church, Bradford, with Father Robert Rayson presiding. Visitation was held from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2003 with rosary prayer service at 3 p.m. at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Bradford. Memorials may be given to her church or to St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Lacon.
Sue E. Gibbs, 101, of Phoenix, Ariz. formerly of Princeville, Ill., died at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at Glencroft Care Center, Glendale, Arizona. She was born April 10, 1902, in Farmington, Illinois, the daughter of Ora and Dora Wasson Colvin. She married Glenn Gibbs on September 15, 1922, in Peoria, Ill. He died in June 1975, as well as nine brothers and sisters.
Surviving are 2 sons, Donald (Martha) Gibbs of Princeville, Ill.; and Dwight (Fran) Gibbs of Tucson, Ariz.; 2 daughters, Ruth (Robert) Jackson of Wyoming., Ill.; and Mildred Merritt of Phoenix, Ariz.; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, David Colvin of Washington, Ill.
Graveside services were held Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Rest Haven Cemetery, Glendale, Arizona.
Russell Roberts, 80, formerly of Wyoming., died at 9:55 pm Thursday, May 21, 2003, at Kewanee Care Nursing Home, Kewanee, where he was a resident.
He was born June 10, 1922, in Bradford, Illinois, the son of George and Kathryn Nichols Roberts.
Surviving are several cousins. His parents preceded him in death.
Graveside services was held from 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Snareville Cemetery, rural Wyoming.. Rev. Joe Hamilton officiated. There was no visitation.
Myra E. Foster, 98, of Princeville, died at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at her daughter’s residence. She was born February 13, 1905, in Good Hope, Illinois, the daughter of Charles O. and Mary Elizabeth Pollock Selfridge. She married Armond T. Foster on August 17, 1928, in Princeton, Illinois. He died January 4, 1988, in Peoria.
Surviving are 1 daughter, Sayra (Philip) Johnson of Princeville, Ill.;6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Her parents, 2 sons, Thomas Foster and Dick Foster, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
She graduated from Western Illinois State Teachers College, Macomb, and came to Princeville in 1925 to teach until her marriage. She was a member of WIU Alumni Association, Princeville Women’s Club, Princeville Historical Association, and Order of the Eastern Star, Wyoming. Chapter #91. She was a 75-year member of the Princeville United Methodist Church, and it’s Esther Circle.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003, at Princeville United Methodist Church. Rev. Rex Hendrix officiated. Visitation was held one hour prior to funeral services at the church. Burial was in the Princeville Cemetery.
