Etta L. David
Etta L. David, age 88, of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 in the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna, Illinois. A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., one hour prior to service at the church. Interment of her cremated remains will be in Chatfield, Minnesota. at a later date. Etta was born on October 25, 1918 in Lake Benton, Minnesota. the daughter of Joseph and Anne (Atkins) Hastings. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the class of 1937. Etta married Hartzel David on March 9, 1941 in Red Oak, Iowa. Hartzel passed away on March 16, 1962 in Rochester, Minnesota..
Etta was Bookkeeper for Adams and Dabron Department Stores, Ben Mills Real Estate and John Krahn Chevrolet all in Savanna. She also worked for the Radke Hotel in Savanna as a manager for over ten years. Etta was a Past President for the P.T.A. and the Mother's Study Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Women's Circle. Etta liked reading, sewing, baking, and sharing her baked goods with everyone she knew. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers and bird watching. Most of all Etta loved spending time with her family.
Etta is survived by her two sons, William (Heidrun) David of Savanna, Illinois and Robert (Kristi) David of Savanna, Illinois; one daughter, Karen (William) Schroeder of Conyers, Georgia; one sister, Inez Johns of Savanna; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Etta is preceded in death by her husband, Hartzel; four brothers and five sisters.

Rosalyn M. "Rosie" Calvert
Rosalyn M. "Rosie" Calvert, age 79, of Savanna, Illinois, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June, 20, 2007 at the Thomson United Methodist Church, Thomson, Illinois. Pastor Paul Judd will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Rosie was born January 27, 1928, the daughter of Herman and Mary (Middendorf) Leifker, in Menominee, Illinois. Rosie attended Galena High School. Rosie married Kenneth W. Calvert on November 18, 1950 in Galena. They were married 52 years. Rosie worked for Alco in Savanna retiring in 1989.
Rosie was a special person and loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed playing card games, shopping with her daughters, watching the Cubs, "even when they were losing." But most of all she loved spending time with her family and little dog Dolly.
Rosie will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Bobbi Harrell (Brian Kamen) of Savanna, and Mary (Dennis) Hebeler of Thomson; three sons, Kenneth (Cathy) Calvert of Marion, Iowa, Walter Calvert of Cuba City, Wisconsin, and Michael (Joy) Calvert of Clinton, Iowa; nine grandchildren; one great-grand daughter; three Step-grandchildren; and one Step-great granddaughter.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken, three sisters, and three brothers.

Kenneth G. Ford
Kenneth G. Ford, age 71, formerly of Savanna, Illinois, passed away on Saturday June 16, 2007 in Edina, Minnesota.. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday June 22, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna, Illinois. Fr. Dennis Atto will officiate. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Savanna. Military rites will be accorded by the Savanna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2223. Ken was born on October 16, 1935 in the Ancon Canal Zone, Panama, the son of Donald and Hazel (Coates) Ford. Ken attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Savanna and then Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee. Ken later served his country with the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
On June 8, 1964 Ken married Patricia Ingersoll in Ocala, Florida. Ken worked for the Milwaukee Road Railroad for 10 years; was a self employed Business Consultant in Chicago for many years and retired from ConAgra as a Logistics Manager. Ken and Patricia were currently residing in the Minneapolis, Minnesota. area. Ken loved golf and landscaping.
Ken will be dearly missed by his wife, Patricia, his daughter, Shelli Ford of Lakeville, Minnesota.; four nephews, Bobby Ford, Doug Ingersoll, Todd Mills, Lucas Ingersoll; two nieces, Connie Ingersoll and Janet (Ingersoll) Kaufman.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Ford; a niece, Brenda (Ford) Brown; and nephews, Michael, Gary and David Ingersoll.

Ronald E. Stines
Ronald E. Stines, age 75, of Hanover, Illinois, died peacefully Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover, Illinois. Military Rites will be accorded by the 4th Maintenance Battalion from the Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois at the Veteran's Memorial in Hanover following the service at the funeral home. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at the funeral home in Hanover. A memorial fund has been established in Ronald's memory. Ron was born on March 20, 1932 in Kimball, Nebraska, one of eleven children and the son of Evan and Ethel (Davis) Stines. He graduated from the Potter High School in Potter, Nebraska in 1951 and soon thereafter, began a distinguished military career, which would span the next 37 years. Beginning with the Marine Corp and after serving three years in the Korean Conflict, Ron earned the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, and the Korean Service Medal; he was also a Qualified Expert Marksman.
Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corp, Ron and Naomi Elizabeth Shabram were united in marriage on July 29, 1955 in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney, Nebraska. His career with the military continued as a QUASAS (Quality Assurance Specialist) at the Sioux Ordnance Depot in Sidney, followed by work assignments as an Ammunition Specialist and a civil servant for the U.S. Department of Army. Throughout the next 34 years, Ron's responsibilities included various classified and non classified duties including tours at the Pueblo Army Depot; Pueblo, Colorado, Black Hills Army Depot; Igloo, South Dakota, Hawthorne, Nevada, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Curundu, Canal Zone-Panama, Kirminsha, Iran and Darmstadt, Germany as well as temporary duty in Saigon, Vietnam, Bogota, Columbia and Berlin, West Germany. Ron earned additional recognition medals awarded by the Department of the Army; Meritorious Civilian Service and Commander Award for Civilian Service. He retired as Chief of the Ammunition School at the Savanna Army Depot in Savanna, Illinois in 1989.
Ron enjoyed playing, coaching and watching athletic sports of all kinds. Listening to music and singing were also some of his favorite pastimes. He was an avid Nebraska Husker's fan, and after retirement, enjoyed gardening, wood working and spending time with family and grandchildren. Ron was a man of integrity and character and will be missed by family and friends. He was a member of Kiwanis, American Legion, 32nd Degree Mason with the Ancon Lodge and Scottish Rite while in Balboa, Panama.
Surviving are his wife, Naomi; three daughters, Elizabeth (Wayne) Schaible of Warrenville, Illinois, Teresa (Andy Miller) Schaible of Hanover, and Wendy (Gary Wegmann) Gillies of Earlville, Iowa; two sons, Ron (Kathy) Stines of Hanover and Sean Stines of Hanover; eleven grandchildren, Katelyn and Olivia Schaible of Wheaton, Illinois, Wayne Schaible of Chicago, Illinois, Jeremy (Mary Beth Skogman) Schaible of Davenport, Iowa, Adam Gillies of Bettendorf, Iowa, Alison (Kevin Knepper) Gillies of Dubuque, Iowa, Ashley (Jason) Breitbach of Dubuque, Iowa, Caleb, Allina and Kheegan Stines, all of Hanover and Cheyenne Stines of Freeport, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Gillies and Caydence Breitbach; three sisters, Maxine Hays of Turpin, Oklahoma, Doris Thomas of Sidney, and Merle Morrison of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Jean, Ruth, Lynn, Helen and Lillian; two brothers, Maynard and Kenney.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Summit Staff at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, along with the staff at Big Meadows Nursing Home and especially Genesis Hospice of Clinton, Iowa.

Gary L. Benell
Gary L. Benell, 67, an 18 year resident of Stephenson Nursing Center, formerly of Lanark, died Monday July 14, 2008 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Gary was born October 26, 1940 in Freeport, the son of Ralph and Marian (Meinders) Benell. Gary Loved listening to music and singing. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle and the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include his brother; Robert (Patty) Benell of Lanark, three sisters; Carol (Bill) Meador, Patricia Folk, both of Lanark, and Joyce Thomas of Florissant, Missouri, many nieces and nephews, two uncles; James (Margie) Meinders of Freeport, and Butch (Julene) Meinders of Shannon, and one aunt; Joyce Shade of Freeport. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father; John Sjoberg, two sisters; Linda Riese and Judy Colbert, and one brother; Jerry Sjoberg.
Services were held on Saturday July 19, 2008 at Schwarz Chapel, Freeport, with Reverend John W. Hollis of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial was in North Grove Cemetery near Forreston. A memorial fund has been established in his memory for the Stephenson Nursing Center.

Sonya R. Foster
Sonya R. Foster, age 18, of Thomson, Illinois, died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. Visitation was held from 3 ­ 8 pm on Monday, July 21, 2008 at the Law ­ Jones Funeral Home in Thomson. A funeral service was held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. A memorial fund has been established in Sonya's name. Sonya was born January 20, 1990, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Robert A. and Patricia L. (Anderson) Foster. She graduated from West Carroll High School with the Class of 2008. Sonya recently became engaged to Phil Hunt of Savanna, Illinois. She worked at the Super 8 Motel in Clinton, Iowa.
Sonya was always happy and was a friend to everyone she met. She always looked for the good in people. She enjoyed hanging out with her friends and going to the movies and waterparks. She loved spending time and playing with her niece Jacey.
Sonya will be dearly missed by her parents, Robert and Pat Foster of Thomson; her fiance, Phil Hunt of Savanna, Illinois; two brothers, Robert Foster of North Carolina, and Justin Foster of Thomson; one sister, Carla Rice of Thomson; her grandparents, Carl and Pat Anderson of Thomson; one niece, Jacey Foster of Thomson; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and friends.
Sonya was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, one sister, and one cousin.

Linda M. Dearborn

Linda was born August 10, 1945 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Darlene (Morris) Bock. On June 30, 1990, Linda married James "Jim" F. Dearborn in Dixon, Illinois. Linda worked as a self-employed housekeeper and as a Certified Nurses Assistant at Big Meadows Nursing Home for many years.
Linda enjoyed collecting teddy bears, reading books by Danielle Steele, cooking and baking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, and she was learning the art of quilting. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Linda will be dearly missed by her husband, Jim of Savanna; three sons, James W. (Angela) Wakefield, Savanna, John Paul Wakefield of Buffalo, Missouri, Loren M. James "Jim" Laurence Halfman
James "Jim" Laurence Halfman, age 55, of Rock Falls, Illinois, formerly of Thomson, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, unexpectedly at home. Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson with Reverend Paul Judd of the Thomson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation was held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. A memorial fund has been established in Jim's name. Jim was born December 19, 1952 in Morrison, Illinois, the son of Laurence and Alice (Morrison) Halfman. He is a graduate of the Thomson High School with the Class of 1971. Jim currently worked at St. Mary's Cement, Dixon, Illinois since 1984. He loved spending time with his two daughters and granddaughter. Jim also enjoyed woodworking and going to auctions. He would often hear his number read-aloud, after the auctioneer would shout "going once, going twice, sold to #....".
Jim will be dearly missed by a daughter, Emily Halfman of Sterling, Illinois; a step-daughter, Jaime (Brent) Thomas of Sterling; his mother, Alice Halfman of Thomson, Illinois; a granddaughter, Jersey Thomas of Sterling; four sisters, JoAnne (Brad) Kloepping of Princeton, Illinois, Karen Shaffer of Thomson, Lisa (Brian) Ruhl of Moline, Illinois and Debbie Halfman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a special friend, Hazel Siddens of Sterling; four nephews; two nieces; two great-nephews; a great-niece; and all of his special friends that he met through auctions. Jeremy J. "Beetle" Hubbard
Jeremy J. "Beetle" Hubbard, age 25, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died July 19, 2008. A Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Frank-Law Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with Pastor Kathryn Ling of Lanark United Methodist Church officiating. A private burial service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Jeremy was born on October 25, 1982, the son of Bradley and Connie K. (Holm) Hubbard in Sterling, Illinois. Jeremy Graduated from Mt. Carroll High School with the class of 2001. He was a Truck Driver for Moring Disposal.
Jeremy enjoyed riding Motorcycles and ATV's, hunting, watching DVD's, and collecting unique knifes. He chrerished celebrating holidays with friends and family. Most important to Jeremy was spending time with his children. Jeremy was a very loving father.
Jeremy will be dearly missed by his son, Colin Hubbard of Milledgeville, Illinois; two daughters, Carissa Hubbard of Milledgeville, and Lilly Hubbard of Stockton, Illinois; one step-son, Patrick of Stockton; mother, Connie (Robert) Robbe of Bulverde, Texas; father, Bradley (Dana) Hubbard of Oregon, Illinois; a brother, Brad (Special Friend, Michelle Lawton) of Mt. Carroll; a sister, Michelle (Dan) Rook of Warrenville, Illinois; a step-brother, Justin Snyder of Oregon, Illinois; maternal grandparents, Richard and Shirley Holm; paternal grandparents, Lawrence Hubbard and Bill and Dorothy Shearer; maternal step-grandmother Norma Robbe, two nephews, Jake and Ryan; two nieces, McKailey and Danielle.

Terry Hammer Sr.
Terry Hammer Sr., age 51, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at his home. A visitation was held Sunday, July 20, 2008, from 2:00 ~ 4:00 p.m. at the Savanna Law - Jones Funeral Home with a time of remembrance at 3:30 p.m. Inurnment will follow at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in Terry's memory.
Terry was born July 9, 1957, in Morrison, Illinois, the son of Glenn and Goldie (Dalton) Hammer. He attended school in Colorado, and graduated from Pueblo High School. Terry served in the United States Army before being medically discharged. He married Tammy Weipert, they later divorced and remained friends.
Terry worked as a Carpenter, traveling across the country, mostly in Texas, Colorado, and Florida, working on various construction sites. He also worked for McGinnis Melons in Thomson, Illinois. Terry was a kind hearted and humble person who loved spending time with his all of his family. He always made time to attend family functions.
Terry is survived by two sons, Terry Hammer, Jr. of Florida, and Jameson (Amy) Horton of Clinton, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon (fiance' Tom Helt, Sr.) Hammer of Florida, and Tasha Horton of Clinton; eleven grandchildren; three brothers, Duane (Karen) Hammer of Milledgeville, Illinois, Allan (Phyllis) Hammer of Savanna, and John Hammer of Pueblo, Colorado; four sisters, Karen (John) Stevenson of Galena, Illinois, Pam (Jim) Green of Coleta, Illinois, Glenda (Jimmy) Moore of Thomson, and Debbie Hammer of Pueblo; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Mary Jean Richter
Mary Jean Richter, age 75, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Monday, July 7, 2008 at Coventry Village, Sterling, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded. A Graveside Service was be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Reverend David Vidler from the First Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Mary was born on July 24, 1932 the daughter of John W. and Anna Laura (Wacker) Richter in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. She attended Fairground School in Mt. Carroll, and she also schools for the handicapped.
Mary worked at Self Help Enterprises in Sterling, Illinois as an assembler. Mary enjoyed watching cars drive by their home and naming the make and model. She liked watching TV and collecting jewelry and stuffed toys.
Mary will be dearly missed by two brothers, Edward (Maxine) Richter of Mesa, Arizona and Glen (Gladys) Richter of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and her friends at the Self Help Enterprises. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Donald Richter.

Eugene R. Hammond
Eugene R. Hammond, 78, of Mount Carroll, died Friday, July 18,2008, at Morrison Community Hospital, Morrison, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Harkness, pastor of Mount Carroll United Methodist Church, Mount Carroll will be officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Fulton Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll, IL. Memorials may be made to the Mount Carroll Ambulance Association. He was born February 14, 1930 in Fulton, IL, to Alvin and Henrietta (Buikema) Hammond. He was educated in the Fulton Grade School and attended Fulton High School. He married Mae L. Hoogheem on January 30, 1951 in Fulton, IL. She died February 8, 2003. He served in the United States Army in Korea. Eugene farmed in the rural Mount Carroll area from 1954 to 1972. Eugene also worked at Alco Dispensing in Savanna. Eugene along with his wife also helped at the Flower Fan-A-See flower shop in Mount Carroll. He was a member of Mount Carroll United Methodist Church, Mount Carroll, IL. He was an avid bird watcher. He also enjoyed gardening and yardwork. Survivors include two daughters, Gaylene S. Hammond of Fulton, IL, and Janis (Mrs. Owen E,) Pepple of Mount Carroll, IL; four grandchildren, Alyssa M. Wiedenhoff, Anya Wiedenhoff; Silas (Margaret) Pepple, Olen J. (Michiko) Pepple; three great-grandchildren, Keaton James and Lucas Tingley, Misa Mae Pepple; and two sisters, LaVerta (Don) Grandinard of Argos, IN, and Lois Hansen of Gardena, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife.

Michael John Fink
Michael John Fink, age 35, of Milledgeville, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at home after a long battle with cancer, under the care of his loving family and Hospice of Rock River Valley.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2004 at the Brookville United Methodist Church, with Pastor Alice Hedges officiating. Burial was in Chadwick Cemetery, Chadwick. Visitations were held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2004 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. A luncheon followed the services at the cemetery at the church in Brookville. A memorial fund has been established in Michael's name.
Michael was born September 16, 1968 in Sterling, the son of Gerald and Penny (Warner) Fink. He graduated from Eastland High School in Lanark, with the Class of 1987. Michael married Lori Nordhougen of Grand Forks, ND on March 8, 2003 at the Brookville United Methodist Church, Brookville.
Michael worked on the family farm with his brother and father. Michael and Lori loved working together to drag race Michael's 1971 AMC Javelin at the Cordova Dragway Park, Cordova. He also enjoyed playing football during high school and working on model trains with his nephew.
Michael is survived by his wife, Lori; his parents, Gerald and Penny Fink of Lanark; one brother, Rod (Renee) Fink of Lanark; one nephew, Marshall; one niece, Makenzie; Lori's parents, David Nordhougen of Wahpeton, ND and Wanda Nordhougen of Grand Forks, ND; and many loving relatives and friends.
