GALESBURG - Clarence W. Murphy Jr., 78, a resident of Heartland Health Care Center, died there at 7:19 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2005).
He was born June 3, 1926, in Galesburg, the son of Clarence W. Sr. and Noema Friend Murphy.
He married Mildred Maxine Williamson in 1952, in Fort Madison, Iowa.
Surviving are a son, Michael C. (and Karen) Murphy, Naperville; two daughters, Patricia L. (and William) Ruppert, Paw Paw, and Carol A. (and Michael Gentry) Plowman, Hamilton; two stepsons, Sonny J. Williamson, Fort Madison, Iowa, and Jerry Lee (and Lydia) Williamson, Oquawka; a sister, Thelma B. (and Donald) Cain, Williamsfield; several stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents.
He attended Galesburg schools and lived in Galesburg most of his life.
He served in the Army for two years during World War II and was stationed in Germany.
He was the general foreman in the freight house of the CB&Q Railroad for 25 years, retiring in 1988.
He attended Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg.He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, a lifetime member of VFW Post 2257, a 50-year member of 40 & 8, and a member of Vesper Masonic Lodge AF&AM 584.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Lee Johnson officiating.Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.

James Shea

EUREKA - James "Del" Shea, 93, Eureka, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2005) in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born Nov. 13, 1911, in rural Galesburg, the son of Peter H. and Anna McGrath Shea.
He married Ruth M. Marchino on Sept. 4, 1937, in Vincennes, Ind.She died Aug. 30, 1995.
Surviving are five daughters, Delia (and John) Ryan, Chicago, Mary (and Bob) Gover, Washington, Ann (and Bob) Hickey, Lincoln, Patricia (and Jim) Bednar, Pontiac, and Frances (and Joe) Crusen, Peoria;six sons, James (and Kathy) Shea, Dyersburg, Tenn., Michael (and Trudy) Shea, Pekin, Dr. John (and Pat) Shea, Riverside, Thomas (and Ann) Shea and Tim (and Mary) Shea, both of Peoria, and Peter Shea, Dunlap; 29 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers, two grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
He was a graduate of Knox College and member of Tau Kappa Epsilon.
He worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 43 years, retiring in 1977 as manager of Data Processing Operations Division in Peoria.
He was a founding member and officer of Te Deum International-Peoriaand Peoria Diocesan Council of Catholic Men, and a lay representative in the Illinois Conference of Catholic Bishops.He received the Pere Marquette Award in 2002.
He was a founding member and trustee of St. Luke Catholic Catholic Church in Eureka, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, was on the parish council and was a member of the Men's Club.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Church in Eureka, with the Rev. Edward Roberts officiating.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary.Additional visitation will be one hour before services Saturday at the church.Burial will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.

Leona M. Hart

LOMAX - Leona M. Hart, 95, Lomax, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 3, 2005) in Memorial Hospital, Carthage.
She was born March 12, 1909, in Yates City, the daughter of Elvin and Maude England Thurman.
She married John E. Hart on Dec. 3, 1936, in Toulon. He died March 28, 2004.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean McGee, LaHarpe, and Eileen Logan, Lomax; two sons, Jim (and Pat) Hart, Lomax, and John Hart Jr., Oquawka; two sisters-in-law, Velma Thurman, Yates City, and Hazel Hart, Stronghurst; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a granddaughter.
She and her husband moved to Lomax in 1938 where they lived until moving to the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center in 2004.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Carman Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, LaHarpe, where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

BUSHNELL - Garry L. Pickel, 65, Bushnell, died at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2005) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born Aug. 4, 1939, in Ellisville, the son of Charles and Gladys Blagden Pickel.
He married Beverly J. Carey on Sept. 2, 1961, in Virginia, Ill.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Kevin Pickel, Glasford, and Garry Pickel-Siebert, Peoria; four daughters, Janice (and David) Maloney, Prairie City, Janet (and Mark) Branch, London Mills, Tina (and Kevin) Miller, Springfield, and Lisa (and Scott) Hanley, Mount Carmel; a brother, Donald Pickel, Florida; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
He worked as a salesman for Art & Gene's Chevy Old Cadillac in Canton for 30 years. He owned and operated Garry's Auto Sales in Bushnell for five years.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Burial will be in Bushnell Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

GALESBURG - Selma B. Grodjesk, 84, 624 Cypress Lane, died at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2005) in her home.
She was born April 27, 1920, in Jersey City, N.J., the daughter of Dr. Louis and Ruth Gates Brach.
She married Dr. Joseph E. Grodjesk in 1942, in Jersey City.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, Dr. Kenneth (and Carol) Grodjesk, Monmouth, and David Grodjesk, Fairfield, Iowa; three daughters, Ellen Butler, Colorado., Carol A. Grodjesk, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Tara Grodjesk, Carmel, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in Jersey City in 1937, Goucher College in Baltimore, Md., in 1941, and from Columbia University School of Social Work in 1945 with an MSW.
She was a medical social worker before retirement. She was formerly of Tenafly, N.J.
She was a member of Temple Beth'el in Jersey City and Temple Sholom in Galesburg, and was a hospice volunteer in New Jersey. She worked with the American Red Cross during World War II at Mitchell Field on Long Island.
Cremation will be accorded. No service or visitation is planned. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

BELLEVUE, Neb. -Enko "Suzy" Danforth, 78, Bellevue, formerly of Galesburg, died Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2005).
Surviving are her husband, Donald; two sons, John (and Teresa) of Lincoln, Neb., and Richard (and fiancee Esther) of Oxford, Miss.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bellevue Memorial Chapel. A private burial will be at a later date.

GALESBURG - Ronald W. White, 45, 1445 Spruce Ave., died at 12:25 a.m. Friday (Feb. 4, 2005) at 1116 Windcrest Acres, Lake Bracken.
He was born Sept. 6, 1959, in Galesburg, the son of Richard W. and Peggy Ann Simmons White.
He married Linda I. Mohr on May 22, 1981, in Cameron.
Surviving are his wife; his parents of Galesburg; two daughters, Jessica M. White and Libby M. White, both of Galesburg; a grandmother, Ermil Simmons, Galesburg; a sister, Linda D. White, Knoxville; and nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1978 and from Western Illinois University with a degree in human resources in 1982.
He served in the Army for five years, stationed in Junction City, Kan.
He worked at Alexis Fire Equipment, doing government projects the past year. He was city manager in Knoxville from 2001 to 2004. He worked in human resources at ACT in Iowa City, Iowa, Geneseo Hospital and Peoria County.
He lived in the Galesburg and Knoxville areas most his life.
He was a member of the Galesburg Rotary Club and Coldbrook Christian Church, Cameron, where was a high school youth group leader and youth camp counselor.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Coldbrook Christian Church, with the Rev. Becky Ingram officiating and military honors by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Family will receive friends after the service at the church. Cremation will be accorded. Burial will be private. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to an education fund for his daughters.
Eugene A. Edwards

YATES CITY - Eugene A. Edwards, 65, Yates City, died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 3, 2005) at home.
He was born June 23, 1939, in Douglas, the son of Charles and Beulah Ginger Edwards.
Surviving are a son, Phillip Edwards, San Diego; two daughters, Janet Nation, Pekin, and Cheryl Hayes, Princeville; a brother, Gary (and Linda) Edwards, Yates City; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
He lived in East Peoria for many years and worked at Cilco, retiring in 1996. He lived in Yates City and worked at Casey's Gas Station in Brimfield and worked at Sam's Club in Peoria.
He was a member of the Air National Guard in Peoria and a member and past secretary of Farmington American Legion Post 140. He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose 1571 of Farmington, Elmwood Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Triad, a member of Howett Street Christian Church in Peoria and The Independent Order of Foresters.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Patterson Funeral Home, Elmwood, with the Rev. Dwight Winnett officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Yates City Cemetery.

Everett W. Bowen

GALESBURG - Everett W. Bowen, 89, 930 Locust St., died at 1:48 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2005) at home.
He was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Berwick, the son of Lohn Luther and Luella Cline Bowen.
He married Gertrude Dalton on Aug. 22, 1953, in Galesburg. She died July 22, 1989.
Surviving are a son, James D. Bowen, Galva; a brother, Charles Bowen, Garden Grove, Calif.; and a sister, Lula Hurxthal, Galesburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
He graduated from Berwick schools.
He served in the Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
He worked for Amoco Pipeline as a heavy equipment operator from 1945 to 1970.
He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Watson Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Stroup officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery.

GALESBURG - James Clyde Pruett, 91, 1332 N. Academy St., died at 10:50 a.m. Friday (Feb. 4, 2005) at home.
He was born June 4, 1913, in DuQuoin, the son of James J. and Iva Hodges Pruett.
He married Violet I. Hall on Feb. 22, 1947, in Knoxville.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Jean (and Bruce) Near, Galesburg, and Ruth Ann (and Charles) Reaves, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Edmund Pruett, New Windsor, and Elmer Pruett of Florida; a sister, Emma Jones of Wisconsin; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister.
He farmed for 30 years, was a truck driver for several years and was a school bus driver and custodian in Galesburg School District 205, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Mercer County Farm Bureau.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. No visitation if planned. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
