GALESBURG - Dean M. Steiner, 42, 363 N. Cherry St., died at 7:13 p.m. Thursday in Galesburg Cottage Hospital of natural causes.
He was born July 11, 1962, in Watseka, the son of Marlyn and Myrna Schumacher Steiner.
He married Lori Smith in August 1998 in Monmouth.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Brandon Steiner and Jordan Sadig, both of Galesburg; one daughter, Brittany Steiner, Galesburg; his parents of Onarga and New Braunfels, Texas, his maternal grandmother, Dora Schumacher, Cisna Park; and three sisters, Lori (and David) Hullinger, West LaFayette, Ind., Becky Leydens, Indianapolis, and Cindy Weakman, Pontiac. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather
He was raised and educated in Onarga, graduating from Onarga High School in 1980. He attended Eureka College and received a degree in business education. He played football in high school and college. He was a member of the TKE fraternity of Eureka College.
He was a journeyman carpenter and was a member of Carpenters Local 183 of East Peoria.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Onarga and attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg.
Memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, with the Rev. Tom Larsen officiating. Visitation will be 6 p.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home. Additional memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga, with visitation 4-8 p.m.

MACOMB - Edna R. Keimig, 80, Macomb, died at 7:48 p.m. Friday (April 1, 2005) in McDonough District Hospital.
She was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Bayard, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Lizzie Schick Schwartz.
She married Tony Keimig on Sept. 17, 1945, in Omaha, Neb.
Surviving are her husband; four sons, Robert (and Linda) Keimig, Phoenix, Jerry (and Kathy) Keimig, Stronghurst, Mike (and Chris) Keimig, Galesburg, and Dave (and Nancy) Keimig, Tremont; two daughters, Kris (and Larry) Baker, Charlestown, Ind., and Donna Hoerner, Good Hope; three brothers, Ray Schwartz, Howard Schwartz and Ken Schwartz, all in Iowa; two sisters, Grace Hallabaugh, in Illinois, and Helen Kulhavy, in Arizona; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and a son-in-law.
She was raised and educated in Bayard. After graduating high school in Bayard she went to business school in Omaha.
She helped her husband farm in Nebraska, Iowa and in Illinois, where they moved in 1955. She worked at J.C. Penney in Macomb for several years.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Macomb, and was a member of Center Club in Macomb, where she lived since 2003.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Corman Memorial Home, Roseville, where the rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Raritan.
Memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and the Diabetes Foundation.
Gerald Wayne Mahr

PARRISH, Fla. - Gerald Wayne Mahr, 81, Parrish, formerly of Ellisville, Ill., died at 8:31 p.m. Thursday (March 31, 2005) in Palmetto Nursing and Rehab Center, Palmetto.
He was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Ellisville, the son of Ellis Otto and Pearl Mae Utsinger Mahr.
Surviving are four sons, Bruce (and Bertie) Mahr, Ellisville, Gerry (and Jo Ellen) Mahr, Mount Auburn, Ill., Curtis Mahr, Lewistown, Ill., and Chris Mahr, Canton, Ill.; Barbara Norman, with whom he made his home; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jon Mahr, two brothers and two sisters.
He farmed until 1984, then worked for Springer-Peterson Roofing in Florida until 1995.
He was a member of Wiley Lutheran Church near Ellisville.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Germany. He was a member of Roy Miller American Legion Post 644 in Fairview, Ill.
He served on the Spoon River Valley Board of Education, Deerfield Township Board, Deerfield Township Cemetery Board, Spoon River College Advisory Board, Mid-Century Telephone board and the Valley Park District Board, all in Illinois.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Wiley Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Al Somers officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Oaks-Hines Funeral Home, Canton. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, rural Ellisville, where military rites will be conducted.

Lavon M. Perkins

WEST JERSEY - Lavon May Perkins, 100, West Jersey, died at 10 a.m. Saturday (April 2, 2005) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born Feb. 13, 1905, in Victoria, the daughter of Lewellyn and Azora Della Swank DeWolfe.
She married Home Vester Perkins on Aug. 24, 1934, in Springfield. He died Oct. 22, 1986.
Surviving are two daughters, Velma Jean Perkins, West Jersey, and Delores Lee "Dee" Seckman, LaFayette; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother.
She graduated from LaFayette High School in 1922.
She worked with her husband on the family farm for many years.
She was a member of Assembly of God Church, Galva.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Rux Funeral Home, with the Revs. Don Reynolds and Dave Hughes officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in West Jersey Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Assembly of God Church in Galva.
Mary E. Stull

ALEXIS - Mary E. Stull, 310 E. Main St., Alexis, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday (April 1, 2005) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born Sept. 26, 1908, in Monmouth, the daughter of Morris E. and Mary E. Murray Shunick.
She married Clarence Stull on Jan. 29, 1932, in Monmouth. He died May 1, 1958.
Surviving are three sons, Clarence F. Stull and Bill (and Ruth) Stull, both of Alexis, and Robert E. (and Judy) Stull, Galesburg; four daughters, Mary Kay (and Bill) Fox, North Henderson, Betty Ann (and Carl) Bruns, Alexis, Roberta Jane (and Bill) Burgland, Galesburg, and Martha Lynn Baker, Phoenix; 27 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
She attended McCaw Corners schools.
She was employed as a psychiatric aide at Galesburg Mental Health Center for 21 years, retiring in 1985. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Galesburg.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, with the Revs. Ernest Pizzamaglio and Deus-Dedit Byabato officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Watson Funeral home, where the rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Monmouth.

STRONGHURST - Susan Anne Towns, 63, Stronghurst, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday (April 2, 2005) at home.
She was born June 17, 1941, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Virgil and Mary Anders Hoffeditz.
She married William "Bill" Towns in Bentonsport, Iowa.
Surviving are her husband; her mother in Stronghurst; one son, Bob (and Traci) Towns, Brownstown; five daughters, Bonnie (and Richard) Christianson, Waynesville, Brenda Woltz, Bloomintgon, Becky Albert, McClean, and Lily Walker and Annette Bragg, both of Denver; one sister, Deanna Mesecher, Decatur; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.
She graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1959 and from medical technology school in Elkhart, Ind., in 1960.
She was a laboratory technician in Mount Pleasant and Newton Iowa; Teague, Texas; Watertown, S.D.; and Decatur from 1980 until her retirement in 2000.
She returned to Stronghurst in May 2002.
She was active as a volunteer for Relay for Life, served on the board of directors for Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst, and was a member of the Stronghurst Senior Citizens. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Twist & Twirl Square Dance Club and Stronghurst United Presbyterian Church.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Stronghurst United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday in Banks & Beals Funeral Home; the family will be present 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Stronghurst Cemetery.

YATES CITY - C. Suzanne Brashers, 42, Yates City, died at 7:28 p.m. Saturday (April 2, 2005) in Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
She was born June 20, 1962, in Peoria, the daughter of Donald A. and Cleta M. Witherell Breymeier.
She married Barry L. Brashers on Dec. 3, 1985, in LaSalle-Peru.
Surviving are her husband; a son, John Brashers at home; two daughters, Sara Brashers, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Brittney Brashers at home; a brother, Louis Breymeier, Farmington; and a sister, Cathy (and Patrick) Bushell, Peoria. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She lived in Yates City the past 14 years and worked at Jim's Surefine Grocery Store in Elmwood the past seven years.
She was a member of the Canton Bowling League.
Cremation was accorded. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Patterson Funeral Home, Elmwood, with the Rev. Dan Doty officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Betty J. Howell

BUSHNELL - Betty J. Howell, 75, Bushnell, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday (April 2, 2005) in Prairie City Health Care Center.
She was born April 23, 1929, in Knoxville, the daughter of Herman A. and Letta May Homan Liniger.
She married Edward L. Howell on July 10, 1948, in Knoxville. He died Dec. 7, 2000.
Surviving are four sons, Michael (and Peggy) Howell, Roger Howell, Charles (and Tracie) Howell and Robert (and Kathy) Howell, all of Bushnell; two daughters, Barbara (and Ron) Smith, Bushnell, and Dixie Lee (and Ron) Gutling, Kahoka, Mo.; a brother, Darrel Liniger, Monmouth; a sister, Barbara Howard, Alexis; 14 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and four sisters.
She worked at Blue Bell and at C.S. Norcross Manufacturing in Bushnell.
She was a member of the Jolly 20 Club in Bushnell.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home; friends may call after 2 p.m. Burial will be in Bushnell Cemetery.

Bernice Melton

ABINGDON - Bernice Melton, 93, Abingdon, died at 8:47 a.m. Saturday (April 2, 2005) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born June 26, 1911, in Galesburg, the daughter of Firman L. and Mary White Cook.
Surviving are a son, Glen Melton, Tallahassee, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Koernig, Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Nadene Melton, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, two brothers and four sisters.
She lived most of her life in the London Mills area and the last 20 years in Abingdon.
She worked at American Sanitary, Blue Bell and Warden Hotel in Abingdon, and was a manager and cook for 25 years at London Mills and Valley schools.
No services or visitation are planned. Corman Memorial Home, Roseville, is in charge of arrangements.
Wilbur E. Berg

GALESBURG - Wilbur E. "Bill" Berg, 76, 741 Lincoln St., died at 9:20 a.m. Saturday (April 2, 2005) in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born March 12, 1929, the son of John A. and Evelyn Nelson Berg.
He married Eva Rosemary "Rosie" Reeves on Sept. 22, 1951, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Patricia Mary Berg, Overland Park, Kan., and Lynn Anne Berg, Edison, N.J.; a brother, Larry D. Berg, Oak Run, Dahinda; and a god son, Patrick Reeves.
He graduated from Altona High School in 1947.
He served in the Illinois National Guard for six years during the Korean War as a sergeant.
He worked at Brown's Specialty Company for 30 years as a truck driver and later drove a bus for the city of Galesburg for 10 years, retiring in 1996.
He attended First Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. James Hazelwood officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel Galesburg. Burial will be in Oneida Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post 285.
