GALESBURG - Michael E. Baylor, 60, 1032 Greenleaf St., died at 9 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 2, 2003) in Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born March 13, 1943, in Moline, the son of Eugene and Margaret A. Cannon Baylor.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra E. (and Ken) Gerts, Lake Worth, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1961 and from Western Illinois University in 1966.
He was former owner of the Town Tavern and Restaurant in Avon, a salesman at D & B Sales in Galesburg, a clerk at Galesburg Glass and night supervisor at the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church, a past member of Prairieland Baptist Church, a former member of Demolay and a member of the Optimist Club.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in East Linwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Dave Stroup officiating. No visitation is planned. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

GALVA - Lulla E. Baysingar, 79, Galva, died Thursday (April 8, 2004), in Kewanee Hospital.
She was born March 25, 1925, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Dolly Mae Jane Smith Sherman.
She married Miles Andrew Baysingar on Aug. 29, 1947. He died Dec. 19, 1986.
Surviving are five daughters, Sandra (and Roy) Fredrickson, Kansas City; Rose (and Jeff) Martinson, Oneida, Judy (and Thomas) Hartman, Galva, Milenda (and Garzell Taylor) Young, Kewanee, and Laura (and Mark) VanHyfte, Annawan; four sons, Leslie (and Patricia) Baysingar, Galesburg, Larry (and Susan) Baysingar, Woodhull, Miles Paul (and Jeanette) Baysingar, Morton, and Rodney (and Carolyn) Baysingar, Altona; a sister, Jewel (and Frank) Gibbs, Creve Coeur; 28 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, five brothers and two sisters.
She owned and operated the Altona Cafe from 1960 to 1965 and from 1975 to 1995.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Galva, War Mothers and Royal Neighbors of America.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Galva, with the Rev. Paul Sowden officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Rux Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.
Memorials may be made to her church of the Angela Scott Music Scholarship Fund.

KNOXVILLE - Kenneth Valor Beard, 59, Port Allen, La., formerly of Knoxville, died Friday (May 28, 2004) in Tulane University Hospital, New Orleans, of natural causes.
He was born July 9, 1944, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Emil Weston and Charlotte Marie Brown Beard.
He married Linda Rudy in 1974, in Houston, Texas.
Surviving are a daughter, Lynnette Beard, Plantersville, Texas; his mother of Delong; two brothers, John W. Beard, Gilson, and Michael L. Beard, Sunshine, La.; three sisters, Connie (and Cliff) Tanner, Campbell Hill, Reva (and Gar) Leadbetter, Dunlap, and Clara (and Mike) Jones, Port Allen, La.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
He was reared and educated in Knoxville.
He was an Army veteran.
He lived in the Houston, Texas, area before moving to Louisiana three years ago.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Knoxville Cemetery, with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Thursday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home.

BELLEVILLE - Ret. SSgt. Frank W. Behlke Jr., 53, Belleville, died Wednesday (Dec. 10, 2003), in Nassau, Bahamas.
He was born Dec. 3, 1950, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Frank W. Sr. and Helen Yackshaw Behlke.
He married Diane M. Barthelme on May 3, 1980, at the Scott Air Force Base.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, LCPL Shaun Robert Behlke of 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, USMC, and Brian Joseph Behlke, Mascoutah; three brothers, Bill Behlke, Mentor, Ohio, Mike Behlke, Madison, Wis., and Tim Behlke, Iowa City, Iowa; and three sisters, Tess Haas, Walcott, Iowa, Maureen Roth, Northbrook, and Barbara Schmitt, Milwaukee, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
He was a plumber in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1990; and most recently employed as a maintenance keeper at Clinton Hills Golf Course.
He was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral in Belleville; and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Funeral will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel One on Scott Air Force Base, with the Rev. Jim Thomas officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Military graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis. Moll Funeral Home, Mascoutah, is in charge of arrangements.

KNOXVILLE - June Eileen Bennett, 84, Knoxville, died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 10, 2004) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Kahoka, Mo., the daughter of Ralph and Louise Hardt Morse.
She married William E. "Bill" Bennett on April 4, 1938, in Kahoka, Mo. He died May 22, 1991.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen (and Michael) Eubanks, Alexis; a son, Thomas W. Bennett of Missouri; three grandchildren; a stepgranddaughter; six great-grandchildren and a stepgreat-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Carol Ann Bennett, and a brother.
She was reared and educated in Galva, graduating from Galva High School in 1937.
She graduated from the Siono School of Beauty Culture in 1938 and owned and operated a beauty shop for more than 40 years.
She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society and Martha's Group. She also was a member of canasta clubs.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Knoxville Cemetery, with the Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. No visitation is planned. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - Patricia Burl (Neal) Bledsoe, 74, Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Dec. 23, 2003) in Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
She was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Henry Earnest and Alvena Leone Pedersen Neal.
She married John Junior Bledsoe on Dec. 28, 1946, in Mountain Home, Ark.
Surviving are her husband; three sons, Roger A. (and Nancy) Bledsoe, Coon Rapids, Minn., John David (and Barbara) Bledsoe, Galesburg, and Steven D. (and Kathy) Bledsoe, Clear Lake; two daughters, Donna S. (and Marvin) Prescott, Lake Mills, Iowa, and Linda M. (and Steven) Dickersbach, Malvern, Iowa; a sister, Janet (and Melvin) Schroeder, Seymour, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
She attended school in Clear Lake and graduated from Mansfield High School, Mansfield, Mo.
She worked at Clear Lake Bakery for 12 years and as a waitress at local restaurants.
Burial will be latere. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

DAHINDA - Gordon Rodger Benson, 82, 1753 U.S. Highway 150 East, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 13, 2004) in rural Knox County.
He died from injuries he received in a traffic accident.
He was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Geneva, the son of Emil J. and Virginia Leff Benson.
He married Corinne Edwards on Jan. 30, 1945, in Alexandria, La.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, John (and Connie) Benson, Mahomet, James Edwards (and Mary) Benson, Knoxville, and Rodger A. (and Rita) Benson, Harrisonville, Mo.; a sister, Betty Wiedaman of South Carolina; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
He was reared and educated in Batavia and graduated from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
He was an Air Force veteran of World War II.
He worked as a structural engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 55 years.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, active in Northwest Cursillo, served on the vestry at St. Paul's Cathedral in Springfield and led a Walk to Emmaus in central Illinois. He was a past master of Pleasant Plains Masonic Lodge 700, a member of Batavia Masonic Lodge 404 and a member of Pacific Masonic Lodge 66 in Knoxville, currently serving as junior steward. He volunteered at OSF Hospice and was a life member of the National Rifle Association.
Cremation was accorded. Services will be later. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Ralph Eugene Berry, 64, Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Bushnell, died at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 7, 2004), in the University of Kansas Hospital.
He was born June 22, 1939, in Macomb, the son of Ralph W. and Beulah White Berry.
He married Marjorie Phillips on June 15, 1961, in New Philadelphia.
Surviving are his mother, Peoria; one son, Lonnie (and Ann) Berry Sr., Galesburg; one daughter, Lori (and Wes) Delware, Pensacola, Fla.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
He was an Army veteran of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky., from 1959 to 1961.
He drove a truck for several years while living in Bushnell.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell, with the Rev. Terry Broady officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Ill.

GALESBURG - Frederick C. Billings, 93, formerly of 1945 Baird Ave., died at 5:30 p.m. Monday (April 26, 2004) in Heartland Health Care Center.
He was born Aug. 23, 1910, in Galesburg, the son of Charles E. and Amy Dahleen Billings.
He married Lois H. Barnes on June 11, 1944, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; a sister, Ruth A. Billings, Galesburg; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
He lived all his life in Galesburg.
He worked as a foreman at Beatrice Foods for 36 years, retiring Jan. 31, 1975.
He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Scarlett officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

KEWANEE - Christopher J. Bishop, 40, Kewanee, formerly of Monmouth, died at 12:45 a.m. today (Oct. 8, 2003) at home.
He was born July 16, 1963, in Macomb, the son of Ted and Sharon Sage Bishop.
He married Dawn Husband on Feb. 14, 1998.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Rachel Bishop, Kewanee, and Kayla Bishop, Monmouth; a son, Jason Bishop, Monmouth; two stepsons, Chad Craig, Alexis, and Cory Craig, Kewanee; his parents of Monmouth; two nieces; two nephews; and aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and an aunt.
He graduated from Warren High School in 1981 and from Wichita Automotive and Electronic Institute, Wichita, Kan.
He worked as an ASE certified mechanic at area garages.
He attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Monmouth.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Immanuel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Shank officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth. Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery.

TONASKET, Wash. - Robert J. Blair, 80, Tonasket, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 2003) in North Valley Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Seaton, the son of Andrew and Nellie Parsons Blair.
Surviving are a son, James R. Blair, Tonasket; a daughter, Debora J. Fox Blair, Tonasket; two brothers, Rolland Blair, Galesburg, and Harold R. Blair, Denver, Colo.; a sister, Mary Alice Blair Welty, Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
He farmed near Coldbrook and Alexis, and worked for the Warren County Highway Department.
