YANKTON, S.D. - Orville "Buster" Bruget, 91, Yankton, died Monday (Dec. 8, 2003) in Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton.
He was born Sept. 13, 1912, in Yankton, the son of Ole and Bertha Freng Bruget.
He married Lois E. Davis in 1948.
Surviving are five daughters, Lynn (and Ken) Lockwood and Stephanie (and Gary) Smith, both of Galesburg, Marcia (and Mike) Mathews and Jennifer (and Jerry) Armstrong, both of Rapid City, S.D., and Suzanne (and Gerard) Zweber, Mission Hill, S.D.; his former wife of Galesburg; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and an infant daughter, Monica.
He attended Bruget School.
He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Nemo during the 1930s and farmed near Mission Hill until 1978.
He was a member of Vangen Lutheran Church, Mission Hill.
Services were today in Vangen Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Erika Lehmann officiating. Burial was in Vangen Lutheran Cemetery. Ray, Cantrell & Wintz Funeral Home, Yankton, was in charge of arrangements.
Buckley, Carl D.

GALESBURG - Carl Dean Buckley, 73, St. Mary's Square, died at 3 p.m. Monday (Jan. 5, 2004) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 10, 1930, in Coal Valley, the son of Harry Melvin and Veoria Betson Buckley.
Surviving are six brothers, Donald Melvin Buckley, Silver Springs, Fla., Raymond Louis (and Matilda Mae) Buckley, Bartonville, Gary Lee (and Mair) Buckley and Richard Steele (and Darlena) Buckley, both of Peoria, Terry Lee (and Sharon) Buckley, Ocala, Fla., and Roger Kenneth (and Wanda) Buckley, Manito. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of Hanna City United Methodist Church.
Cremation was accorded. Private graveside service will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington. No visitation is planned. Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Buckner, Phyllis

EVERETT, Wash. - Phyllis Ransom Buckner, 78, Everett, died Feb. 16, 2004.
She was born Aug. 12, 1925, in Lyndon, Ill., the daughter of John and Irene Ransom.
She married Robert Buckner in 1951. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Lynn (and Rick) Scott, Republic, Wash.; a son, Scott (and Dana) Buckner, Snohomish, Wash.; a stepson, Gerald Buckner of Washington; two sisters, Betty Cummings, Kelso, Wash., and Velma Magoon, Galesburg; two granddaughters; three stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert Eugene, and a stepson, Stanley Buckner.
She was raised in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943.
She moved to the Everett area in 1948 and worked at the Lake Stevens School District as a bus driver for 11 years.
She was involved in PTA for 20 years.
Funeral was Monday in Solie Funeral Home Chapel, Everett. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Lynnwood, Wash.

PRAIRIE CITY - James W. Buffalo Sr., 79, 230 Columbia, died at 2:10 a.m. Friday (June 6, 2003) in the Prairie City Health Care Center.
Military services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Prairie City Cemetery by Bushnell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1422.
Memorials may be made to the Prairie City Health Care Center or McDonough District Hospice Fund.

BROOKINGS, Ore. - Virginia M. Evans Burford, 88, died Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) in Oregon.
She was born Jan. 10, 1915, in Canton, the daughter of Berneta and James Evans.
She married Joe L. Burford in 1935. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Snyder, Gold Beach, Ore., and Sharon Moreno, Brookings, Ore.; two grandchildren; a niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1933.
She worked as a secretary.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Cremation was accorded. Her ashes were scattered at sea. Redwood Memorial Chapel, Brookings, Ore., was in charge of arrangements.
Burger, Audrey J.

DAVIE, Fla. - Graveside service for Audrey J. Burger, 75, formerly of Galesburg, will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 13 in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery, Cobleskill, N.Y.
She died Jan. 17, 2004, in Regency Memorial Hospital, Hollywood, Fla.

KNOXVILLE - Franklin M. "Bink" Burgess, 88, 408 S. Timber St., died at 4:25 p.m. Friday (Aug. 29, 2003) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born July 22, 1915, in Knoxville, the son of John Franklin and Mabel Andrews Burgess.
He married Gertrude L. Chapman on Sept. 10, 1936, in Galesburg. She died May 3, 1990.
Surviving are a son, Joe (and Rosalie) Burgess Sr., Knoxville; a grandson and three great-grandchildren.
He was reared in the Knoxville area and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1933.
He worked as a truck driver, as a carpenter at Thermal Coal Company, Knoxville, then worked in construction with his father. In 1946, he formed Burgess Construction Company, which he operated with his son and Russell Steele.
He was 2nd Ward alderman in Knoxville from 1951 to 1961, serving as chairman of the cemetery committee, was mayor from May 1961 until May 1977 and zoning administrator from June 1977 until May 1995.
He served the Knoxville Fire Protection District from 1946 until 1985 and was chief and fire marshall.
He was instrumental in establishing James Knox Park.
He was a former member of the Knoxville Business Association and the Knoxville Hunting Club, and a charter member of the Knox County Historic Sites Board.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, with the Rev. Todd Henderson officiating. No visitation is planned. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery

Burgland, Richard M.

GALESBURG - Richard M. Burgland, 89, Galesburg, died at 4:10 a.m. Friday (Sept. 5, 2003) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Galesburg, the son of George and Grace Russell Burgland.
He married Annabelle Gray on July 7, 1946, in Hamlet.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, George (and Mary) Burgland, Galesburg, John (and Nancy) Burgland, Appleton, Wis.; a daughter, Margaret (and Lance) Renfroe, Galesburg; a sister, Katherine Simpson, Macomb; six grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by a sister.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He lived all his life in Galesburg.
He owned Burgland's Youth Fashions with his sister, Jeanette Burgland, from 1953 until 1990. He also worked at Stern & Field Clothing Store for 25 years.
He served on the Knox County Board of Supervisors from 1957 until 1978 and was chairman for 12 years. He also was a member of the boards of Trinity Lutheran Church, Galesburg Jaycees, Galesburg Housing Authority, Lake Bracken Country Club and the Streaks 400 Club.
He was the recipient of the Service Above Self Award from the Sunrise Rotary Club in 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tom Larsen officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to his church or the Galesburg Public School Foundation.

GALESBURG - Elizabeth A. Burns, 67, 847 W. North St., died at 1:25 p.m. Friday (Jan. 2, 2004) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born July 4, 1936, in New Canton, the daughter of Glenn M. and Pauline A. Miller Havens.
Surviving are one son, David (and Alice) Burns, Galesburg; one daughter, Tina Denise Burns, Knoxville; one brother, Edward Havens, Kelley, Iowa; and four grandchildren.
She was a 1954 graduate of Abingdon High School. She lived in Galesburg most of her life. She was a child care provider and an active member of Galesburg's First Christian Church.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Christian Church, with Rev. Greg Fitch officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society and the First Christian Church.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Burrell, Norma J.

PEORIA - Norma J. Burrell, 72, Peoria, died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 11, 2004), in Proctor Hospital.
She was born May 19, 1931, in Avon, the daughter of Paul and Edna Zuck Jones.
She married Jim Harrison on June 19, 1949, in Avon. He died April 17, 1982. She married Clarence Burrell on Oct. 19, 1983, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Surviving are her husband; one son, Rodney (and Jacky) Harrison, Morton; one daughter, Paula (and Bob) Ward, Avon; one stepson; one stepdaughter; one sister, Ned (and Debbie) Anderson, Galesburg; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, David Harrison, and one son-in-law.
She was educated in Avon.
She was a resident of Avon for 52 years before moving to Peoria where she has lived since.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Corman Memorial Home, Avon. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Avon Cemetery.
