Gilbert, Elmer Sr.
May 8, 2004
HERMON - Elmer "Jake" Gilbert Sr., 80, formerly of Hermon, died at 12:01 a.m. Friday (May 7, 2004) in the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.
He was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Henderson County, the son of Bishop Hershel and Bertha Agnes Cox Gilbert.
He married Alberta Kilpatrick on Sept. 14, 1948, in Lamar, Colo.
Surviving are two daughters, Sue Daniels, Galesburg, and Maria; two sons, Jake Gilbert Jr., Galesburg, and Marvin Gilbert; a sister, Aline (and Sam) Shotts, Galesburg; three brothers, Tom (and Clara) Gilbert, Abingdon, and Chester (and Sharon) Gilbert and Lester (and Erma) Gilbert, both of Petersburg; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard the U.S.S. Iowa.
He was a truck driver for 38 years and had worked for Burlington Northern Truck Lines in Galesburg and Nausbaum Trucking in Bloomington.
He was a lifetime member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381 in Abingdon.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, with Eleanor Landon officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post 381.
Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice, Knox County Humane Society, Knox County Nursing Home or American Legion Post 381.

Gilbert, Patricia F.
December 17, 2003
GALESBURG - Patricia F. Gilbert, 87, 121 W. Simmons St., died at 10:30 p.m. Monday (Dec. 15, 2003) in Marigold Nursing Home.
She was born March 17, 1916, in Galesburg, the daughter of Frank and Florentine CiVardi Brock Costa.
She married Albert E. Gilbert on Dec. 18, 1941, in Galesburg. He died May 7, 1967.
Surviving are a stepson, DeWitt C. Gilbert, Hemet, Calif.; four stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Leah Gilbert Farley.
She graduated from Brown's Business College.
She worked 10 years at Irving's Tractor Lug Co. and at the Poland China Record Association in Galesburg for 30 years, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and its Ladies of Mary Guild and the St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary, was a member and president the Grandmother's Club, vice president of the Mary Allen West Tower Association and served on the board of directors of West Central Illinois Legal Aid.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Watson Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Costa Catholic School or the Mary Allen West Memorial Fund.

Gilman, Marie T.
November 16, 2003
KNOXVILLE - Marie T. Gilman, 93, Knoxville, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 15, 2003) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born April 7, 1910, in Chicago, the daughter of Edward and Theresa Conrad Mantch.
She married Harry Gilman in 1935. He died in 1956.
Surviving are one son, Richard "R.E." (and Erna) Gilman, Knoxville, and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
She was reared and educated in Chicago, moving to Knoxville in 2002. She worked as a secretary, retiring in 1975.
She was of Catholic faith.
A memorial service will be at a later date.

Goddard, Delores F.
August 4, 2004
GALESBURG - Delores F. Goddard, 89, formerly of 1291 Monroe St., died at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday (August 3, 2004), in Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Galesburg, the daughter of Ralph C. and Mabel C. Cool Dixon.
She married Edward J. Goddard on Sept. 25, 1937, in Davenport, Iowa. He died June 18, 2004.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen (and John) Stevens, Altona; four sisters, Merle Edoff, Peoria, Betty (and Lowell) Yates, Galesburg, Dorothy Clatt, East Peoria, and Rose Maria (and Bud) Kremer, Lyle, two granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Central Congregational Church.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or to the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.

Jerome D. Goff
January 14, 2004
GALESBURG - Jerome D. "Jerry" Goff, 67, 1384 N. Henderson St., died at 12:50 p.m. Monday (Jan. 12, 2004) in Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born June 25, 1936, in Galesburg, the son of Dwight P. and Mary E. Meadows Goff.
Surviving are a brother, James W. (and Vicki) Goff, Knoxville, and nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1954 and from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
An Army veteran, he served from 1958 to 1960.
He worked as a personnel manager at Allen Bradley Co. in Milwaukee, Wis.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg and Alpha Delta Phi fraternity.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Marilyn Anell officiating. No visitation is planned. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to his church.

Goff, W. Harland
May 7, 2004
BIGGSVILLE - W. Harland "Spud" Goff, 88, Biggsville, died at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday (May 5, 2004), in Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab Center, Stronghurst.
He was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Rozetta Township, the son of William Wallace and Grace Fisher Goff.
He married Susan E. Larimer on Feb. 28, 1940, in Monmouth.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Richard (and Joyce) Goff and James (and Terry) Goff, both of Biggsville; a sister, Ethel Gustafson; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
He was reared and educated in Rozetta where he attended local schools.
He was a self employed independent trucker, operating "Goff Trucking" many years in the Biggsville and Rozetta area.
He was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Biggsville; was a former member of Biggsville Lions Club; and was a coach in the Sheriff League.
He served a number of terms as road commissioner of Biggsville Township; was a volunteer fireman and served as chief in Biggsville Fire District; served on the town board for several years; and served on the school board during the organization of Union School District.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Turnbull Funeral Home, Biggsville, with the Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. Friends may call after noon on Friday and on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Biggsville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Henderson County Cancer Fund.

Goings, Charles W.

TRENTON - Charles W. "Corkey" Goings, 61, Trenton, formerly of Ewing, Mo., died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 14, 2003), in Anderson Hospital, Maryville.
He was born Jan. 27, 1942, in Durham, Mo., the son of John Wilbur and Winnie Viola Hicks Goings.
He married Karen J. Peters on Sept. 30, 1961, in Ewing, Mo.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Wes (and Wanda) Goings, Aviston; three brothers, Kenny (and Dorothy) Goings and Dick (and Norma) Goings, both of Ewing, Mo., and Donald (and Brenda) Goings, Lewistown, Mo.; three grandchildren; two uncles and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He was in the Army and a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He worked briefly for Calcium Carbonate, Moorman Manufacturing and Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He started to work for Burlington Northern Railroad in West Quincy, Mo., later working in South and North Dakota, Wyoming., Montana, Des Moines and Ottumwa, Iowa, and finally in Galesburg where he retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
He was a member of Dover Baptist church near La Grange.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Ewing First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Shelby Job officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing. Burial with full military honors will be in Dover Cemetery near La Grange.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Dover Cemetery Association.

Goldring, Elsie M.
October 14, 2003
BRADFORD - Elsie Maebelle Goldring, 80, Bradford, died at 3:35 p.m. Friday (Oct. 10, 2003) in Kewanee Hospital.
She was born Feb. 17, 1923, in Peoria, the daughter of Oscar and Elsie Felicia Adams Miller.
She married William Lawrence Goldring Sr. on June 15, 1940, in Fort Madison, Iowa. He died May 25, 1992.
Surviving are four sons, William L. (and Kathy) Goldring Jr., Manito, George (and Delores) Goldring, Topeka, Kan., David (and Darla) Goldring, Bradford, and Stephen (and Edie) Goldring Sr., Kewanee; a daughter, Sherry (and Gerald) Tracey, Ellisville; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Dean Goldring, a daughter, Elsie Lucille Goldring, a brother and a sister.
She worked for many years as a nurses aide at Bel-Wood Nursing Home.
She was a member of First Nazerene Church in Ellisville and the Goal Getters.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Wilton Mortuary, Peoria, with the Rev. Greg Ogle officiating. Visitation will be three hours before the service Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Goodwin, Wilford B.
December 15, 2003
YATES CITY - Wilford B. Goodwin, 93, formerly of Yates City, died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 13, 2003) in the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.
He was born Nov. 9, 1910, in Douglas, the son of Melvin P. and Edith Beck Goodwin.
Surviving are cousins, a niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
He graduated from Yates City High School.
An Air Force veteran of World War II, he was stationed in England.
He farmed near Douglas.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Douglas and Yates City American Legion Post 461.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, with the Rev. James Reed officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Yates City Cemetery, with military honors by Farmington American Legion Post 140.
Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 140.

Gill, Debbie J.
May 6, 2004
GALESBURG - Debbie Jo Gill, 48, 1740 Grand Ave., died at 2:04 a.m. Wednesday (May 5, 2004) at home.
She was born Dec. 21, 1955, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of John Ira and Darlene Crider Leab.
She married Bruce Gill on Sept. 8, 1990, in Henry County.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Michael Leab, Galesburg; a daughter, Michelle Leab, Galesburg; two brothers, Johnny Leab and Merle (and Mary Lou) Leab, both of Clinton, Iowa; three sisters, Barb (and Frank) Weibers, Camanche, Iowa, Lori Snodgrass, Clinton, Iowa, and Teresa (and Wes) Stowers, Griffithsville, W.Va.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She lived in the Clinton, Iowa, area most of her life and moved to Galesburg in 1982.
She received an associate's degree from Carl Sandburg College.
She worked as an administrative assistant at the Department of Public Aide for 15 years.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Clinton Memorial Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the family.
