Karl K. Kaminski

GALESBURG - Karl K. Kaminski, 54, 266 Silver St. Galesburg, died Friday (Jan. 23, 2004) at 2:45 a.m. at his home.
He was born October 27, 1949, in Warren County, the son of Christopher and Dorothy Lindstrom Kaminski.
He married Vicki Richardson in 1973 and later married Mary Parks in August 1984.
He is survived by his mother Dorothy Wasson, Monmouth; grandmother, Grace Sexton, Roseville; a son Kyle K. Kaminski, Galesburg; a daughter Kristy (and Toby) Ladendorf, Galesburg; two brothers Don Kaminski, Danville, N.H. and Paul (and Theresa) Wasson, Wakeegan; a sister Sue (and Steve) Ross, Biggsville and a special friend whom cared for him Pamila Taylor, Galesburg.
He was preceded in death by his father, and his stepfather, Dale Wasson, whom raised him.
He graduated from Warren High School in 1967 and attended Carl Sandburg College.
He worked for Maytag Corp. for 35 years retiring in January 2002. He was a member of I.A.M. Local 2063. He served in the Army in Vietnam from 1969-1972.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Kenneth Muck officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the chapel. Burial in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Military services conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or Community Hospice of America.
Kaywood, Minnie

MONMOUTH - Minnie E. Kaywood, 104, Monmouth, died at 12:05 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 10, 2004) in the Monmouth Nursing Home of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 18, 1899, in Martinsville, Ind., the daughter of Charles Wesley and Almeda Stierwalt Kaywood.
She married Elonzo Huntley in September 1916, in Monmouth. He preceded her in death
Surviving are several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great grandnieces and great grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Charles Huntley, and several nieces and nephews.
She was reared in Indiana until 1908. She attended country schools and attended Mudd College near Roseville. She was a homemaker. She lived in Monmouth until 1928. She moved to Peoria until 1952 and moved back to Monmouth and lived in Oak Terrance.
She was of Southern Baptist faith.
A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Monmouth Cemetery with the Rev. James Epperson officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday and Wednesday in Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth.
Memorials may be made to the Monmouth Nursing Home.
Keel, Shirley L.

ELMWOOD - Shirley L. Keel, 67, Elmwood, died at 4:15 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 5, 2004), in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
She was born July 9, 1936, in Brimfield, the daughter of Esther Tucker.
Surviving are one son, Brian (and Dr. Lil Vogl) Keel, Goodyear, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
She lived in Elmwood since 1956.
She was employed at Nelson Manufacturing in Peoria, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of the Elmwood VFW Auxiliary Post 4724.
She was of Methodist faith.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Patterson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sharon Treptow officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Brimfield Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Keim, Ellen L.

MONMOUTH - Ellen L. Keim, 81, Monmouth, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 15, 2003), in Community Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Monmouth, the daughter of James and Gladys Lusk Norman.
She married David O. Keim on June 15, 1945, in LaSalle. He died Oct. 15, 1989.
Surviving are one daughter, Peggy Nimmo, Jasper, Texas; one granddaughter and one grandson. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
She was reared and educated in Monmouth, attending Willits Grade School, Central Junior High and graduating from Monmouth High School in 1936. While at Monmouth High School, she was a stenographer for the school principal, G. Roy Imbody.
Following her high school graduation, she was employed as a stenographer at Illinois Bankers Life Assurance Co. in Monmouth, and later Production Credit Association, also in Monmouth.
She was a member of Heritage United Presbyterian Church, Monmouth. She had been a long-time and charter member of the Delta Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi until June 5, 1945, when she, along with four others, received the highest honor of their sorority when the Exemplar Degree was conferred. This chapter was later named the Xi Gamma Chi Chapter.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. John Irwin officiating. Friends may call Wednesday at the funeral home; family will be present from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Monmouth Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Strom Center Elevator Fund.
Kellert, Barbara L.

MONMOUTH - Barbara L. Kellert, 83, Monmouth, died at 1:50 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 17, 2004) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born Nov. 6, 1920, in Enid, Okla., the daughter of William and Ann Peters Lauppe.
She married Albert Kellert on Nov. 25, 1945, in Enid.
Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Barbara A. Kellert, Brookfield, Helen (and David) Ramming, Frenso, Calif., Carolyn (and Richard) Griffiths, Monmouth; a son, Albert M. (and Cheryl) Kellert, Amissville, Va.; a brother, William (and Lois) Lauppe, Lahoma, Okla.; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
She was reared and educated in Enid. She graduated from Oklahoma State University.
She moved to Monmouth after her marriage.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg and was active in the choir and taught Sunday school for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Cancer Society, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Buchanan Community Chorus, Diabetic Club and the Women's League of Voters.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Daniel Smith officiating. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday at Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth; family will be present from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery.
A memorial fund is being established for the Cancer Society.
Kemmitt, Lynda J.

CONCORD, Calif. - Lynda J. "Lynn" Kemmitt, 65, formerly of Knoxville, died at 4:02 p.m. Sunday (May 30, 2004), in Stonebrook Health Center, Concord, Calif., after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 24, 1938, in Galesburg, the daughter of Lawrence and Alyce Sweborg of Knoxville.
She married (William) Marc Dennis of Galesburg on March 3, 1957, and William G. Kemmitt of Monmouth on March 10, 1967.
Surviving are three daughters, Eryn (and Tom) McCulloch, Benicia, Calif., Kelly Dennis, Galesburg, and Paige (and Jason) Kowalski, Washington, D.C.; a brother, Bill (and Sharon) Sweborg, Galesburg; two grandsons; two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1956.
She worked at General Finance Corp. in Galesburg and retired from Continental Grain Corp. in 2003.
Cremation has been accorded. No services were held.

Kempin, Arthur R.

KEWANEE - Arthur R. "Art" Kempin, 95, Kewanee, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 21, 2003) in Kewanee Care Nursing Home.
He was born April 9, 1908, in Kewanee Township, the son of Albert L. and Caroline Schmidt Kempin.
He married Louise M. Moraski on Oct. 6, 1928. She died Aug. 16, 1983. He married Lois H. Peden on Oct. 24, 1992.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Ronald (and Rosemary) Kempin, Sandy, Utah; two daughters, Joan (and Joseph) Nosal, Kewanee, and Karen (and Douglas) Krusa, Champaign; a brother, Harry Kempin, Galva; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
He worked as a leather cutter for Boss Manufacturing in Kewanee for 30 years and as a welder at Kewanee Manufacturing for 17 years.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Kewanee.
Cremation was accorded. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fredi Gomez Torres officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kewanee. Rux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to his church.

ORANGEVILLE - Mike Kendrick, 57, Orangeville, died Nov. 17, 2003, at home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1946, in Galesburg, the son of Francis and Margaret Heinz Kendrick.
Surviving are his wife, Patty Labarthe de Kendrick, Miami, Fla.; one daughter, Stacie Lynam, Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Pete (and Ellie) Kendrick, Freeport; two sisters, Mary Castle of Calif., and Katy (and Kenny) Severns, Abingdon; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial gathering will be at a later date.

GALESBURG - Jeremiah "Jerry" Francis Kennedy, 88, 425 W. First St., died at 5:48 p.m. Wednesday (June 2, 2004), in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born March 16, 1916, in Galesburg, the son of Jeremiah and Agnes Curry Kennedy.
He married Josephine Themanson on April 6, 1941, in Monmouth.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Jim (and Debbie) Kennedy, Galesburg; three daughters, Connie Summers, Davenport, Iowa, Cindy (and Jim) Newport, Aurora, and Mary Prow, Galesburg; three sisters, Margaret Mingare, Tampa, Fla., Jane Highhouse, Tucson, Ariz., and Anne Luetger, Naperville; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
He graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1935.
He was employed by CB&Q Railroad and Hawkinson Manufacturing. For the past 25 years, he was sexton of St. Mary's Cemetery.
He was involved in coaching the parochial schools in Galesburg for more than 25 years, and also coached little league for 10 years.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 50 years, and was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home, with the rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Costa Friars Club.
Kennelly, Vivian I.

YATES CITY - Vivian I. Kennelly, 88, 349 Knox Road 2300E, died at 4:24 p.m. Friday (Jan. 2, 2004) in Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
She was born April 27, 1915, near Yates City, the daughter of Frank and Hazel Barrett Thurman.
She married Verne A. Kennelly on June 27, 1939, in Galesburg. He died in October 1999.
Surviving are one son, Don (and Linda) Kennelly, Yates City; one daughter, Connie I. (and Curtis) Simpson, Dunlap; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
She was the former Yates City postmaster and farmed with her husband for all of her married life.
She attended Douglass Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Yates City.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington, with the Rev. Dan Doty officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Yates City Cemetery.
