AIKEN, S.C. - Donna LaVonne Mackenzie, 73, Aiken, formerly of Galesburg, died at 2 p.m. Jan. 6, 2004, in Aiken.
She was born March 26, 1930, in Moline, the daughter of William and Flossie Alexander.
Surviving are a son, William Homer Mackenzie, Sunrise, Fla.; three daughters, Donna Sherwood, Galesburg, Robyn Bartley, Aiken, and Jae Farley, Gattman, Miss.; her mother, Flossie Alexander, Lexington, Ill.; a brother, William Alexander, Amarillo, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Benz, Lexington; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.
She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1948.
She worked at the Mary Davis Home in Galesburg from 1961 to 1970.
Services were Monday in Lexington. George Funeral Homes, Aiken, was in charge of arrangements.

EAST GALESBURG - Betty V. Mackey, 81, 119 W. First St., died at 12:35 p.m. Sunday (May 2, 2004), in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born April 3, 1923, in Upper Strasburg, Pa., the daughter of George and Vera Wright Horn.
She married Bert L. Mackey on July 5, 1941, in Strasburg, Pa. He died Nov. 12, 1995.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda (and Richard) Jackson, Lorma (and Terry) Jackson and Mary (and Chuck) VanBeveran, all of East Galesburg; four sons, Larry (and Colleen) Mackey, Horse Valley, Pa., and Ed (and Laurie) Mackey, Gary (and Florence) Mackey and Bert (and Mary) Mackey Jr., all of Galesburg; two sisters, Ora Lee Gipe, Upper Strasburg, and Beryl Walls, St. Thomas, Pa.; six brothers, Calvin Horn, Curtis Horn, Emery Horn, Gerald Horn, Jim Horn and Richard Horn, all of Shippensburg, Pa.; 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Emery Mackey, two brothers and four sisters.
She was a homemaker and a member of the East Galesburg Community Chapel.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.

GALESBURG - Martin J. "Marty" Maher, 78, 1455 W. Main St., died at 9:13 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 1, 2004) in Heartland Health Care Center.
He was born May 15, 1925, in Galesburg, the son of Cornelius J. "Con" and Charlotte A. "Lottie" Crump Maher.
He married Jeanne R. Reedy on Oct. 24, 1947, in Bloomington.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Martin J. Maher, Sunrise, Fla.; two daughters, Pamela (and William) Klapp, Galesburg, and Theresa (and Rodney) Lake, Champaign; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
He graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1943 and attended Illinois Wesleyan University, Carl Sandburg College and Knox College.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served from September 1943 to Dec. 31, 1945 and was stationed in Italy with the 34th (Red Bull) Infantry Division. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Croix de Guerre Badge.
He worked as a railroad clerk at the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy/Burlington Northern Railway for 42 years, retiring Nov. 30, 1984.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church; a lifetime member of Joseph Hunt Council 556 of the Knights of Columbus and VFW Post 2257; a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, the Weekenders Golf League and AARP; and a former member of the Costa Quarterback Club.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 285.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

HOT SPRINGS, S.D. - Steven Lee Mahnesmith, 48, of Hot Springs, S.D., formerly of Galesburg, died at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday (April 28, 2004) in Chesterfield, Mo.
He was born Dec. 19, 1955, in Galesburg, the son of Forrest E. Mahnesmith and Mary (Varnold) Mahnesmith.
Surviving are a daughter, Tara, New York, N.Y.; a son, Shawn, Chicago; a sister, Diane L. Walker, Lake St. Louis, Mo.; a brother Timothy E. Mahnesmith, Prattville, Ala.; two nephews; and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
He attended Galesburg schools.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He worked as an environmental management specialist in Hot Springs, S.D., and was an active volunteer at the Veterans Administration medical center there.
Cremation has been accorded. Visitation and memorial service will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hinchcliff-Pearson-West in Galesburg. Burial will be at the Rock Island Arsenal at a later time.
A memorial fund will be established.

GALESBURG - Donald Lee Mahnesmith, 41, 236 N. Kellogg St., Apt. B, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday (July 28, 2003) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 17, 1961, in Joliet, the son of Donald L. and Charlene Ann Plue Riggs Sr. He was adopted by Wesley Dean Mahnesmith Sr.
Surviving are his fiance with whom he made his home, Patty Ann Hickman, Galesburg; his mother, Charlene Ann Mahnesmith, Galesburg; his grandfather, Earl A. Plue, Knoxville; his stepmother, Gloria Riggs, Galesburg; four stepsons, Joseph Pacheco, Donald Hickman, Nathan Hickman and William Hickman, all of Galesburg; a daughter, Angela Starr Mahnesmith, Las Vegas, Nev.; four sisters, Terri L. (and Dennis) Allen, Knoxville, and Tina Riggs, Shirley Robertson and Luann Spahr, all of Galesburg; and two brothers, Douglas R. (and Kyra M.) Mahnesmith, Gilson, and Wesley D. (and Melonie) Mahnesmith, Galesburg.
He worked at Phoenix Industries and Gross Galesburg.
He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in East Linwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Lewis Woods officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.

ELLISVILLE - Myrna E. Markley, 79, Ellisville, died at 8 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 1, 2004) in Prairie City Health Care Center.
She was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Ellisville, the daughter of Ralph W. and Clara M. Knott Fouts.
She married John T. Markley on Jan. 31, 1946, in Canton. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Merl (and Rita) Markley, Fairview; two daughters, Laura (and Gary) Jennings, Avon, and Marty Markley, Canton; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
She farmed with her husband in Deerfield Township.
She was of Lutheran faith.
She was a member of the Fairview Women's Club, Fairview American Legion Auxiliary, Ellisville Rebekah Lodge and the Fulton County Home Bureau.
Cremation was accorded. Private services will be later. Oaks-Hines Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WOODSON - Carolyn Kay Malone, 49, Woodson, died Monday (Sept. 1, 2003) at home.
She was born Dec. 28, 1953, in Galesburg, the daughter of Robert A. and Carolyn J. Bollinger Pumfrey.
She married Terry P. Malone on Aug. 24, 1974, in London Mills.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, Jon C. of Rockford, and Marc P. of Woodson; a daughter, Rose M. of Jacksonville; three brothers, Robert A. Pumfrey, Franklin, Ky., Kenny S. (and Beverly) Pumfrey, Pierceville, Kan., and Walter M. (and Lisa) Pumfrey, London Mills; and a sister, Amy Lou (and Noel) Garrett, Abingdon. She was preceded in death by a brother.
She graduated from Valley High School in 1972 and received a bachelor's degree in home economics from Western Illinois University in 1976.
She worked as a coordinator of work activities at Elm City Rehabilitation Center since 1982.
She was a member of First Christian Church and was active in Relay for Life.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Christian Church, Jacksonville. Friends may call after noon Thursday at Cody & Son Memorial Home; family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Diamond Grove Cemetery.

MONMOUTH - Marilyn C. Mannon, 77, Monmouth, formerly of Galesburg, died at 11:30 a.m. Monday (July 28, 2003) at home.
She was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Galesburg, the daughter of Eric A. and Hilma O. Nelson Linner.
She married Dr. Vernon R. Mannon D.C.
Surviving are four daughters, Terri (and Brant) Weil and Linda (and Alan) Mannon-Bricker, both of Monmouth; Polly Mannon-Nygard, Galesburg, and Patsy (and Greg) Manuel, Rockford; four sons, Kirby (and Karen) Mannon, Gig Harber, Wash., Rick (and Laura) Mannon, Rock Island, David (and Lorie) Mannon, Chandler, Ariz., and Pete (and Kimberly) Mannon, Geneseo; 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Laurie Crandall, and two brothers.
She was reared and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School. She attended Knox College and graduated with a degree in education from Augustana College.
She was a homemaker and taught in the Galesburg area for many years. She also had worked as a sales representative, secretary and bookkeeper.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, Alpha Zi Delta Sorority at Knox and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Keith Killinger officiating. Friends may call Thursday and Friday at Turnbull Funeral Home; family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.

GALESBURG - Leroy G. Markham, 70, 2624 Lincoln Park Drive, died at 2:05 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 9, 2003) in Seminary Manor.
He was born Sept. 15, 1933, in Galesburg, the son of Gerald M. and Evelyn Lawrence Markham.
He married Martha Gutman in 1954 in Galesburg. He married Joan Still Swanson on Oct. 8, 1989, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Dr. Anthony Markham, Cedar Falls, Iowa; a daughter, Diane Markham Brown, Rock Island; two stepsons, Terry W. Crouch, Kirkwood, and Gary M. Crouch, Cameron; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Crouch, Longmont, Colo.; a sister, Lorinda Barlow, Galesburg; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; six stepgrandchildren and a stepgreat-grandchild.
He graduated from Corpus Christi High School in Galesburg in 1951.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict.
He operated Grandview Family Restaurant in Galesburg for 22 years. He moved to Davenport, Iowa, and was owner/operator of Markham's Beverages, a Miller beer distributor. He then lived in Florida for 10 years before returning to Galesburg in 1989 and opening Markham's Family Restaurant in 1990, retiring in September 1998.
He was a lifetime member of the Galesburg Elks Lodge, Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 and the Knights of Columbus.
Funeral was today in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

GALESBURG - Bernice Catherine Marshall, 79, Galesburg, formerly of Springfield, died Wednesday (Dec. 17, 2003) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Payson, the daughter of Wernie Albert and Lilia Catherine Ruester Marshall.
She married Donald Wayland Hollembeck on April 11, 1942, in St. Charles, Mo.
Surviving are one son, Michael Jay (and Marlyn) Hollembeck, Big Rock; two daughters, Catherine Lynn (and William) Scheffler, Galesburg, and Christine Lee (and Donald) White, Springfield; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Funeral will be at noon Monday in Bisch Funeral Home West, Springfield, with the Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the time of the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

MONMOUTH - Joseph Lynn Martin, 63, Monmouth, died at 12:05 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 1, 2004) in Community Medical Center.
He was born April 16, 1940, in Galesburg, the son of Albert L. and Anne Marie Hreno Martin.
He married Mary Frances Johnson on March 17, 1966, in Monmouth.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Tamara (and Jim) Slater, Monmouth; a brother, Jim (and Patti) Martin, Monmouth; two sisters, June (and Duane) Kalb, St. Augustine, and Jacqueline Myers, Mojave, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Laurette (and Bill) Hawk, Monmouth; a grandson, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was reared and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School.
An Air Force veteran, he served as a policeman from 1961 to 1964.
He was a truck driver for Gambles for 22 years, Munson Trucking for nine years and Wal-Mart for the past 15 years.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Monmouth, Marion B. Fletcher American Legion Post 136 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Cremation was accorded. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Killinger officiating. Friends may call Tuesday at the funeral home; family will be present from noon until the service.

BUSHNELL - Robert L. Martin, 82, Bushnell, died at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday (May 5, 2004), at his residence.
He was born Nov. 17, 1921, in Dallas City, the son of Edison D. and Pearl Browning Martin.
He married Phyllis J. Foresman on Jan. 17, 1946, in Dallas City.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Robert L. Jr. (and Mary) Martin, Bushnell, and Lane E. (and Sue) Martin, Rockford; two daughters, Janice L. (and Mike) Fayhee, Glencoe, and Jane (and Lynn) Laswell, St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Lester (and Maxine) Martin, Galesburg; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
He graduated from Dallas City High School in 1939, then attended Western Illinois University and later graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago.
He served in the U.S. Army from September 1942 to December 1945 where he served in the Pacific Theatre of operations, achieving the rank of 1st Sergeant.
He worked with his father at Martin Funeral Home in Dallas City and later at Mellor Funeral Home. The Martin family moved to Bushnell in 1953 and later became owners of Kugler-Martin Funeral Home in January 1954.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge and Bushnell Rotary Club. He became president of the Rotary Club of Bushnell in 1959 and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award.
He served on Bushnell-Prairie City School board of education and Fall Festival committees; and was a member of Bushnell Chamber of Commerce.
He was a member of Bushnell United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the board and church treasurer and participated in church choir.
He spent his summer residence at the Congregational Summer Assembly in Frankfort, Mich., where he served on the board of trustees as well as many other boards and committees.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bushnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Martha Scaff officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Burial will be in Bushnell Cemetery.
