Wilmer W. Pendarvis

ABINGDON - Wilmer Warren "Bill" Pendarvis, 82, Abingdon, died at 7:50 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 15, 2004) at home.
He was born Dec. 25, 1921, near Abingdon, the son of Glen W. and Eula Roe Pendarvis.
He married Lucille Heaton on June 1, 1947, in Toulon.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Randy W. (and Diane) Pendarvis, Peoria; a daughter, Linda E. (and Mark) Reschly, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, Robert Pendarvis, LaFayette; a sister, Roberta (and James) Buffington, Bend, Ore; two grandsons and four granddaughters. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a sergeant in the 112 Army Airways Communication System in Italy and Africa.
He graduated from Toulon Township High School and attended Monmouth College.
He farmed, retiring in 1998. He sold real estate, including with the former Peck Real Estate.
He was a member of the Farm Bureau since 1949 and was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the board of trustees. He also served on the Knox County Farmers Home Administration Committee.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Dinges officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery, with military rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381.

GALESBURG - Adam Justin Perez, 28, 703 W. Berrien St., died at 4:57 p.m. Monday (July 26, 2004) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born Oct. 9, 1975, in Galesburg, the son of Jack M. and Anita Potter Perez.
Surviving are his parents, Jack M. (and Cathy Bergmann) Perez, Galesburg, and Anita M. (and Scott) Levi, Chicago; one daughter, Addison Zeta Perez, Galesburg; his grandparents, Lupe and Jessie Perez, Galesburg, and Lewis Potter, Avon; one stepsister, Brandi Olson, Chicago; and aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Potter.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1993.
He managed and operated the Taco Hideout Restaurant in Galesburg with his father.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Watson Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Community Bank of Galesburg for a college fund established for his daughter.
Perry, Kenneth M.

GALESBURG - Kenneth M. Perry, 92, 2345 N. Seminary St., died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 1, 2003) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born Jan. 17, 1911, in Rushville, the son of Charles and Effie Briggs Smith.
He married Katharine Anderson on May 28, 1933, in Fort Madison, Iowa. She died Dec. 5, 1980.
Surviving are a half-brother, Charles Smith, Springfield; two sisters-in-law, Mary (and Everett) Nelson, Galesburg, and Virginia Perry, Las Vegas, Nev.; a niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother.
A Navy veteran, he served from from 1933 to 1953 and retired as a warrant officer pharmacist.
He had worked as a registered nurse in California, moved to Ottawa in 1980 and lived there for 23 years before moving to Galesburg.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Streator.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth, with the Rev. Keith Killinger officiating. No visitation is planned. Watson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GALESBURG - Beverly J. Perry, 78, formerly of 1180 Skinner Ave., died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 7, 2003) in Rosewood Care Center.
She was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Galesburg, the daughter of William L. and Mary Louise Efner Hughes.
She married Dwight L. Perry on Oct. 1, 1949, in Galesburg. He died Jan. 25, 1985.
Surviving are two brothers, Lloyd G. (and Josephine) Hughes, Galesburg, and Charles E. (and Hattie Mae) Hughes, Alexis; two sisters, Sheila (and Cecil "Jack") Hunter and Lora Louise "Sue" Pryor, both of Morro Bay, Calif.; two nieces and four nephews. She was preceded in death by a niece.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1942.
She worked in the Osco Cosmetic Department for 36 years, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of D.A.R. and the Knox County Genealogical Society and volunteered at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Stephen Bibb officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

NEW WINDSOR - Grace W. Peterson, 87, New Windsor, died Friday (Oct. 3, 2003) at the Galesburg Terrace Nursing Home.
She was born May 14, 1916, in Burgess, the daughter of Frank and Alice Josephson Peterson.
Surviving are a sister, Frances McMeekan, Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.
She graduated from New Windsor High School where she played violin in the school orchestra and played with the Mercer String Ensemble in
Aledo. She briefly taught violin in her home.
She was employed at Gibb's Food Market in New Windsor for many years and in 1972 attended Carl Sandburg College where she attained her LPN Degree. She worked at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg and also was a News Correspondent for the Rock Island Argus, Moline Dispatch, Times Record and WHBF Radio.
She was a member of the New Windsor Presbyterian Church.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home, Alpha. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the New Windsor Cemetery.

GALESBURG - Chuck D. "Kid" Peterson, 46, 285 W. Losey St., died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 19, 2004) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born July 17, 1957, in Galesburg, the son of Don C. Peterson and Mary Jo Teel.
He married Cheryl Hewitt.
Surviving are his parents, Don C. (and Irene) Peterson, Victoria, and Mary Jo Teel, Pocahontas, Ark.; two daughters, Heather Peterson, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Amber Peterson, Abingdon; two sisters, Vicky Brosowske, Peoria, and Michelle Teel, Pocahontas, Ark.; a special friend, Brunda Memmey, whom he shared a home with; an aunt; and nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1975.
He worked at Admiral Manufacturing for a year, at Gates Rubber Company for 28 years and part time for the City of Galesburg Park Division for 14 years.
He was a member of the Galesburg Press Club, Elks Lodge 894 and the United Steel Workers of America 685.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Marty Briney officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Victoria Cemetery.

ORION - Harold T. Peterson, 90, formerly of Orion and Rock Island, died at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 25, 2004) in Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.
He was born April 25, 1913, in Osco, the son of Elof G. and Anna O. Erickson Peterson.
He married Virginia L. Anderson on Sept. 3, 1937, in Rock Island. She died June 19, 2002.
Surviving are a son, Lamont (and Diane) Peterson, Las Vegas; a daughter, Laura Mikkelson, Quincy; seven grandchildren, including David (and Deanna) Ollman, Galesburg; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Ronald, and a brother.
He was reared near Osco, graduated from Orion High School in 1930 and attended Iowa State University and Augustana College.
He farmed for many years in the Osco-Orion area. He also worked as a federal meat inspector and state sanitarian, retiring in 1977. He and his wife then managed Fieldcrest Housing Units in Orion and Cambridge until 1984, when he moved to Rock Island.
He was a member and board member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion and a member of First Lutheran Church in Rock Island. He served on the Lutheran Cemetery Association board in Orion and was a member and officeholder of Golden K Kiwanis in Rock Island.
Cremation will be accorded. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Gregory Mayer officiating. No visitation is planned. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Orion.
Memorials may be made to the Tree of Life at Friendship Manor, 1209 21st Ave., Rock Island, IL 61201, or to any charity.

CARMAN - Helen Winnefred Phillips, 80, Monmouth, formerly of Carman, died at 12:50 a.m. Friday (Jan. 16, 2004) in Monmouth Nursing Home.
She was born April 21, 1923, in Mount Sterling, the daughter of Claude and Vada Ferrill Logsdon.
She married Roy A. Phillips on July 3, 1940, in Oquawka. He died in 1978.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry (and Linda) Phillips, Gulfport, and Bill (and Theo) Phillips, Media; two brothers, Tob Logsdon of Minnesota., and Marselus Logsdon, Dahinda; 29 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sons, Jack Phillips and Jim Phillips.
She was reared and educated in Mount Sterling.
She was a homemaker.
She moved to Carman after her marriage and live there until the early 1980s, when she moved to Oquawka and then to Monmouth in 1998.
She was a member of Carman Methodist Church.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Carman Cemetery. No visitation is planned. Turnbull Funeral Home, Oquawka, is in charge of arrangements.
