LYDIA M. LAMBERT
STERLING - Mrs. Lydia M. Lambert, 90, of 912 6th Avenue, died Friday May 23, 2003 at CGH Medical Center. Mrs. Lambert was born February 8, 1913 in Sterling, the daughter of Emil and Lizzie Zook Haak. She married Hubert D. Lambert on February 8, 1946 in Dixon. He preceded her in the death on July 31, 1976.
Mrs. Lambert was a member of the East Jordan United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Bruce (Patricia) Lambert of Sterling; one daughter, Judi Lambert of Sterling; one brother, Melvin (Eline) Haak of Sterling; four sisters, Kathryn Person of Polo, Evelyn Saunders of Sterling, Helen Ogata of Urbana, and Arlene Copenhaver of Deerfield; two grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Edward & Richard; two sisters, Elizabeth Meisel and Marian Haak.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Russell Coats pastor of East Jordan United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Tuesday at the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to East Jordan United Methodist Church.

JEANNETTE GERICKE
STERLING - Jeannette Gericke, 93, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at Coventry Village. Mrs. Gericke was born June 25, 1910 in Highland, IL the daughter of Wesley and Lenore (Parker) Stone. She married Harold Gericke on June 21, 1933 in Dupo, IL. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1979. She was a member of the Geneseo Presbyterian Church, and a 50-year member of Eastern Star. She was an avid reader and loved to play cards.
Surviving is one son, Thomas (Donna) Gericke; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday at Valley View Gardens of Memory in Edwardsville.
Arrangements were completed by the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling.

MARGARET L. MURRAY
STERLING - Margaret Lucille Murray, 94, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Coventry Village Nursing Home. She taught school for 20 years beginning with elementary school in Thomson and finishing her teaching career at Fulton Junior High School. Mrs. Murray was born November 12, 1908 in Chadwick, the daughter of John and Edna (Melendy) Hicks. She graduated from Chadwick High School, attended Cornell College, and earned a B.A. Degree in education from the University of Illinois in 1930. She married Eugene Paul Murray on January 27, 1933 in Dixon and the couple celebrated their 70th anniversary this year. For 41 years she and her husband farmed her family's homestead farm in the Thomson area. She was a founder of the Thomson Woman's Club, an active member of DAR, Carroll County Home Bureau, Carroll County Republican Women and the Chat-A-Whiles Club. She was the pianist and organist at the Thomson Methodist Church for more than 30 years. In 1973, the Murrays retired from farming and moved to Sterling where Margaret became a member of PEO and the Whiteside County Association for the Blind. She continued to be an active member of DAR and the Whiteside County Republican Women and was an active golfer into her nineties. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and during the last few years, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dr. John (Judy) Murray of Champaign, Dave (Helen) Murray of Sterling; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a brother, George Hicks.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Jonathon Singleton, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Friday and 10-11 AM, Saturday at the Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Whiteside County Association for the Blind.

MABELLE G. FRANSEN
STERLING - Mrs. Mabelle G. Fransen, 85, died Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Sterling Pavilion. Mrs. Fransen was born on May 26, 1918 in Hayworth, IL, the daughter of Ernest W. and Lena Rivers Price Richards. She married Edwin E. Fransen on April 19, 1938 in Clinton, IA. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1992.
Mrs. Fransen was a member of Science Ridge Mennonite Church in Sterling.
She had worked with the University of Illinois teaching Nutrition to low-income families.
She is survived by three sons, Kendall Fransen of Sterling, Wendall Fransen of El Paso, and Edwin "Bud" (Donna) Fransen, Jr. of Byron; five daughters, Shirley (Ken) Dewese of Finley, Ohio, June (Steve) MacKenzie of Bellingham, WA, Karen (Ken) Wennekamp of Hubbard, IA, Bonnie (Fred) Davis of Clayton, IN, and Eileen Fransen of Dallas, TX; twenty-three grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, nine brothers, and one son David Fransen in June 1973.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at the Science Ridge Mennonite Church in Sterling with Pastor Rick Koch of the Milledgeville Church of the Brethren officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Tuesday evening at the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to PADS.

WILLIAM B. HOWE
William B. Howe, 86, formerly of Rock Falls, died Sunday, June 15, 2003 at the home of his daughter in Payson, AZ. He had been employed as a machinist at R.B. & W. Plant, Calle Printing and for Bauder Machine Works until he retired in 1984.
Mr. Howe was born August 19, 1916 in Rock Falls, the son of LeRoy "Slim" and Gertrude (Frank) Howe. He served in the US Navy. He married Doris K. Kennedy on March 27, 1943 in San Diego, CA. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2000. He was a member of the Rock Falls Congregational Church, a lifetime member of ATA and was inducted into the Illinois Hall of Fame in 1995. He was an avid fisherman and Cubs Fan.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Dan) Pruett of Payson, AZ; four brothers, Robert (Esther) Howe of West Columbia, SC, Theodore (Mary) Howe of Frankfort, TN, Calvin (Jackie) Howe of Rockford, MI, John (Shirley) Howe of Clinton, IA, five sisters, Marjory McGinn and Evelyn Murphy of Sterling, Joan (Ron) DeBruine of San Antonio, TX, Lynnette (Fred) Flowers of Chicago, Mary June (Jack) McKinley of Redford, MI; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Also preceding him was a sister, Madeline, four brothers, Donald Howe, Thomas Howe, Russell Howe, and Faye Howe.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 20, 2003 at the Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rock Falls.
Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Thursday at the Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Fund.

MERVIN JAMES ZEIGLER, SR.
Sterling, IL - Mervin James Zeigler, Sr. 91 passed away on Friday, June 27 at his home in Sterling. He was born on Dec. 25, 1911, in Millboro, South Dakota, the son of Leslie and Jesse (Anderson) Zeigler and grew up on the family homestead where he acquired his love of machinery and the ability to repair anything made of metal or wood. He was a member of the 1929 State Champion High School football squad and graduated from Winner, SD High School in 1930.
After high school he attended Springfield Teachers College in Springfield, SD. He moved to Illinois in 1933 where he completed a course of study at Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. In 1935, he moved to Dixon where he built a home and married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Mundorff, on September 1, 1935 at the Dixon First Christian Church.
The family moved to Sterling in 1941 where he began a lifelong career as a master mechanic for several local industrial concerns. Merv's specialty was rebuilding engines, and that included everything from small lawn mowers to industrial truck engines and vintage Chevy V-8's for his admiring grandsons.
He retired in 1971, purchased a mini-home, and began to explore America with Mildred, visiting family and friends across the US and Canada.
Merv was a lifelong member and deacon of the First Christian Church of Sterling, where he took an active part in the construction of the present church and parsonage at 3400 6th Avenue. He could repair almost anything, usually improving its function in the process, and worked his magic for the benefit of church, family, and friends.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and took great pleasure in involvement with his family at work and play. Always willing and eager to pitch in, he helped with improvements to a home, repairing appliances and making toys for both family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; two sisters: Irene Cerv of Winner, SD and Leona Dowden of Freeman, SD; three sons: Jim (Sandy) Zeigler of Sterling, Larry (Lana) Zeigler of Cape Coral, FL, Doug (Amy Jo) Zeigler of Richmond, VA, and daughter-in-law Sandra Zeigler of Ephrata, WA, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Gerald, Gene, and Leonard, and his son Don.
Visitation will be at 9:00 am, the memorial service at 10:00 am on Monday, June 30th at First Christian Church of Sterling, 3400 6th Ave. Interment follows at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Memorials have been established at First Christian Church of Sterling and Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
Funeral arrangements were completed by the Schilling Funeral Home.

FRANK O. SULOUFF
STERLING — Frank O. Sulouff, 87, died Thursday, April 8, 2004 at his home in Sterling after an illness. He was employed for many years as a Sheet Metal Worker for Weaver Sheet Metal.
Mr. Sulouff was born August 24, 1916 in Sterling, the son of Jacob and Emma G. (Hawk) Sulouff. He served in the US Navy during WW II. He married Evelyn Simms.
Survivors include his wife, five children, ten grandchildren, one brother, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a son and one brother.
Private services will be held. Arrangements were completed by the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established.

MARTIN C. FRANKFOTHER
COLETA — Martin C. Frankfother, 92, died Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Morrison Skilled Care. He owned his own building contractor business until he retired.
Mr. Frankfother was born May 8, 1911 in Coleta, the son of Elias and Ora (Crom) Frankfother. He married Ruth Heide on March 10, 1928. He was a member of the Coleta United Methodist Church. He had been involved in the construction of the original Emerald Hill Golf Club and Bowling Lanes and enjoyed golfing there. In addition to his construction business, Martin was the Village of Coleta Marshall, Constable, Deputy Sheriff and was Village Clerk for 26 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and along with Rothmer Bushman started the Coleta Sportman’s Club, and also, the Coleta Trout Pond which is still thriving today.
Survivors include his wife Ruth; a son, Daniel (Joyce) Frankfother of Milledgeville; two daughters, Rose (George) Ritenour of Coleta and Donna (Arnold) Chandler of Madison, WI; seven grandchildren, Wendy (Scott) Gibson, Polly (Mark) Adams, Mark (Stacey) Chandler, Nancy (Scott) Bentley, Kevin (Maureen) Frankfother, Kayla (Howard) Talbot, Kent Frankfother; two step grandchildren, Julie (Darryl) Bouchard, Mark (Melinda) Fellner; 12 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, LaVerne and Burton Frankfother and three sisters, Leota Farwell, Iola Flynn and Kathryn Cain.
Memorial services will be at 10 AM, Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Coleta United Methodist Church with the Reverend Polly Klimson, Pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday at the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established.

KENNETH A. TEACHOUT
FREEPORT - Mr. Kenneth A. Teachout, 51, of Freeport, died Monday, April 5, 2004 at his home.
Kenneth Teachout was born September 8, 1952 in Sterling, the son of Mason and June Bell Teachout. He married Karen Beidler on May 9, 1987. Kenneth was a medic in the 101st Airborne of the U.S.Army serving in Vietnam for two years. Mr. Teachout was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling.
He is survived by his wife, Karen of Freeport; his mother, June Teachout of Sterling; five step-sons, Mark Murphy of Rockford, Aaron Murphy of Freeport, Brian (Sandy) Murphy of Freeport, Butch Murphy and Joseph Murphy of Freeport; two step-daughters, Shari (Jim) Cook of Freeport and Kellie Jo (Harry) Beckman of Madison, WS; one brother, James Teachout of Sterling; many grandchildren; and many foster children.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Nancy Dvorachek of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday evening at Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established.

EMILY G. RUTT
STERLING — Emily G. Rutt, 83, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at CGH Medical Center.
Private funeral services will be held at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling with Reverend Christine Gilbert, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Rutt was born August 18, 1920 in Altamont, the daughter of George and Hazel (Whinrey) Griffith. She graduated from Sterling High School in the Class of 1938. She married John L. Rutt on October 5, 1940. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the CGH Women’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Susan (Rockne) Foreman of Iowa City, IA, Nancy (Larry) Morgan of Lake Bloomington, Patricia (Dennis) Aldrich of Sterling; five grandchildren, Sheila Foreman of Dallas, TX, Laura Aidan of Iowa City, IA, Jennifer Harrison of Bloomington, Eric Aldrich of Bollingbrook, Tim Aldrich of Sterling and a great-grandson, Jake Harrison of Bloomington; four brothers, George (Helen) Griffith of Chicago, John (Suzanne) Griffith of Woodburn, OR, Lee (Evelyn) Griffith of Ocala, FL, and Dr. Thomas (Nancy) Griffith of Decatur.
A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church and Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center. Memorials may be sent to Schilling Funeral Home P.O. Box 592 Sterling, IL 61081.

RAYMOND L. LOWRIE
ROCK FALLS — Raymond L. Lowrie, 79, of Rock Falls died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at CGH Medical Center. He was an over-the-road semi driver for Northwestern Steel & Wire and was a member of the Teamsters Union for 48 years until he retired in 1990.
Mr. Lowrie was born January 9, 1925 in Sterling, the son of Lyle and Ethel (Fritz) Lowrie. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Gertrude Leopard on September 5, 1964 in St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a member of Moose Lodge #726 Sterling, American Legion Post #902 Rock Falls, Family Motor Coach Assoc., and past member of Rock River Motorcycle Club.
Survivors include his wife; a sister-in-law, Pat Lowrie of Port Charlotte, FL; nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Lyle E. Lowrie.
Graveside services will be at 9:30 AM, Monday, April 5, 2004 at Riverside Cemetery with Reverend John Kermott, pastor of First Baptist Church, Sterling, officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established.
