GALESBURG - Doris M. Jackson Powell, 85, Galesburg, died at 10:29 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 6, 2003) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born March 10, 1918, in Tennessee, Ill., the daughter of Arthur and Minnie Berry Jackson.
She married Harold E. Powell on June 6, 1943, in Burlington, Iowa. He died Aug. 2, 1989.
Surviving are two daughters, Diana Powell, Galesburg, and Marcia (and Gary) Wickkiser, Converse, Ind.; a son, Richard (and Connie) Powell, Peoria; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing, Macomb.
She worked as a nurse at the Iowa Ordinance Plant in West Burlington, Galesburg State Research Hospital, Galesburg Cottage Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital and Hope Headstart. She was a nursing home administrator for nursing homes she owned and operated and was a private duty nurse in home health care and for local doctors.
She was nominated for Who's Who in Illinois Nursing in 1985 and was a member of the Nursing Home Administrators Association, the American Nurses Association and State of Illinois Retirees Association.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for 35 years.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lee Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Private graveside service will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Plymouth. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the perpetual care fund for St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pruett, Jacob A.

KNOXVILLE - Jacob Andrew "Jake" Pruett, infant son of Joel and Crystal Pruett, 1000 W. Main St., died at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 25, 2004) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
Surviving are his parents; a sister, MacKenzie Pruett, Knoxville; maternal grandparents Charles and Janet Ihrer, Avon; paternal grandparents John and Connie Pruett, Knoxville; maternal great-grandparents George and Faye Sittle, Avon; and paternal great-grandmothers Ruth Pruett, Galesburg and Jo Harter, Knoxville. He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents and paternal great-grandfathers.
Private graveside service will be Monday in Knoxville Cemetery, with the Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the family.

ALTONA - Ralph A. Pullins, 78, 110 Johnson-Pyle, died at 3:10 p.m. Saturday (July 31, 2004) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, of natural causes.

VISTA, Calif. - Brian Keith Purchase, 32, Vista, Calif., died April 19, 2004 in Vista.
He was born March 2, 1972, in Galesburg, the son of Robert Sr. and Sandra Purchase.
Surviving are his mother, Sandra Klopp of Oregon; his father, Robert Purchase Sr., Monmouth; one brother, Robert Purchase Jr., Monmouth; a half brother, Ryan Purchase, Millegville; a half sister, Christina Purchase, Millegville; his paternal grandparents, Marjorie Douglas and Donald Purchase, both of Galesburg; and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Joyce Liniger.

Jessie M. Purlee

MT. CARROLL - Jessie Mildred Purlee, 95, Mt. Carroll, died Wednesday (July 30, 2003) in Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll.
She was born Jan. 28, 1908, in DeKalb County, Mo., the daughter of Fred Roe and Laura Burke Wuerfele Lawless.
She married Frank Lowell Purlee on July 31, 1930, in St. Joseph, Mo. He died Feb. 8, 1983.
Surviving are two sons, Robert L. (and Doris Ann) Purlee, LaGrange, Ga., and Gerald R. (and Charlotte) Purlee, Opp, Ala.; a daughter, Faye L. (and Dan) Parris, Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She graduated from Easton High School in Missouri and from St. Joseph Secretarial College, St. Joseph, Mo.
She was a homemaker and worked as a clerk at the Alexis Post Office, retiring in 1973.
She was past president and member of the Alexis Women's Club and a member of the War Mothers Group.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Alexis Cemetery, with the Rev. Delbert Icencogle officiating. Family will greet friends at the cemetery from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Quinn, Delmar E.

GALESBURG - Delmar E. "Gene" Quinn, 62, 369 Pine St., died at 7:50 a.m. Monday (Sept. 22, 2003) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 30, 1940, in Abingdon, the son of Pete and Nellie Quinn.
He married Linda S. Loy on June 27, 1975, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Tony Quinn and Travis Quinn, both of Galesburg; three daughters, Tami Hindahl, Abingdon, Sherry (and Larry) Osborne, Norris City, and Tara Quinn, Galesburg; one sister, Delores Singleton, Galesburg; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sons, Michael, Ronnie, Timothy and William, and one sister.
He worked in construction for 12 years and then was a school bus driver for Galesburg District 205 for seven years, retiring in 1989.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Bane officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Prairieland Baptist Church in Galesburg.
Quinn, James F.

GALESBURG - James F. Quinn, 76, 1276 E. Fremont St., died at 4:42 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 28, 2003) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born Feb. 23, 1927, in Abingdon, the son of Irwin and Opal Sissel Quinn.
He married Lois Hager. He married Jean M. Pennington on July 3, 1972, in Hamilton Mo.
Surviving are his wife; a son, James (and Dee) Quinn, Galesburg; a stepdaughter, Darlene Fauaa, Elizabethtown, Ky.; a brother, Raymond Quinn of Alabama; two sisters, Donna Richardson and Clara Remaly, both Galesburg; a grandson and a great-grandson.
He graduated from Abingdon High School.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He worked at Gale Products/OMC as a forklift operator for 37 years, retiring in 1983. He also was a city bus driver, retiring 1991.
He was a member of AMVETS, Moose Lodge 880, the OAKS, F.O.E. Lodge in Oquawka and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, with military honors by American Legion Post 285.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's unit at Marigold Health Care Center.
