GALESBURG - Therese Hildegard "Thea" Stewart, 70, a resident of Rosewood Care Center, died there at 8:50 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 26, 2004).
She was born Feb. 18, 1934, in Nurnberg, Germany, the daughter of Johann and Else Kirschbaum Meier.
She married David L. Stewart on Nov. 27, 1954, in Galesburg.
Surviving are a son, Kurt (and Ketra) Stewart, Galesburg; two daughters, Lori Stewart and Karen (and Mike) Martin, both of Galesburg; two brothers, Richard Meier and Jurgen Meier, both of Nurnberg, Germany; two sisters, Marlene Eberl, Nurnberg, Germany, and Helga Sheldon, Galesburg; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anneliese Adler, her parents and a sister.
She graduated from high school in Nurnberg, Germany.
She was a homemaker and also was a window decorator for the former Fred Schubach Clothing Store in Galesburg.
She attended First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg.
Graveside services will be at noon Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. James Hazelwood officiating. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

KNOXVILLE - Dannie L. Stockton, 71, 107 W. Depot St., died at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 2, 2003) in the Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 7, 1932, in Galesburg, the daughter of Harold and Fern Reynolds Nonamaker.
She married James W. Stockton in 1950 in Raton, N.M.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Debbie L. (and Rodney) Dennis and Karen L. Stockton, both of Knoxville; her mother, Fern Olson, Denver, Colo.; a sister, Carol Ronan, Denver; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and a sister.
She attended grade school in Gilson and graduated from Knoxville High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was of Methodist faith.
Private service will be Friday in Knoxville Cemetery, with the Rev. Mary Vick Roth officiating. No visitation is planned. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Stolba, Louis J.

MONMOUTH - Louis J. Stolba, 88, Monmouth, died at 5 p.m. Wednesday (June 18, 2003) at Community Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Lorain, Ohio, the son of Louis Frank and Anna Marie Rezeck Stolba.
He married Eleanore L. Koscinski on Sept. 7, 1937, in Crown Point, Ind.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Ann (and Justin) Lumley, Seminole, Fla.; two sons, Louis E. (and Pamela) Stolba, Tallahassee, Fla., and Robert J. Stolba, Havana; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
He was reared and educated in Lorain, Ohio, and graduated from Lorain High School.
He first delivered milk house to house with a horse drawn wagon for the Lorain Creamery and later drove delivery for Central Bakery in Lorain until 1961. The Stolbas then moved to Florida, where he worked in vending for a time and then for both Pepsi Cola and Coca Cola until his retirement in 1975. He and his wife moved to Monmouth in 1989.
He volunteered at both Cottage Hospital and Community Medical Center, and at Strom Center, where he did Meals on Wheels.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Monmouth.
Cremation will be accorded. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, with the Rev. Keith Killinger officiating. Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Turnbull Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ST. JOE, Ind. - Margaret M. Stomberg, 78, St. Joe, Ind., died Wednesday (Feb. 18, 2004) in DeKalb Memorial Hospital, Auburn.
She was born April 7, 1925, in Huntington, the daughter of Emmanuel and Florence Bennett Hiers.
She married Virgil H. Stomberg on Feb. 7, 1944, in Covington, Ky.
Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Arla (and Paul) Sechler, St. Joe, Kristine (and Mike) Bates, and Nita (and Tom) Thieme, both of Fort Wayne; one brother, Jerry Hiers, St. Louis, Mo.; one grandson, three granddaughters and three great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a grandson, three brothers and four sisters.
She had several cousins who lived in the Galesburg, Ill., area. She was a dispatcher for General Telephone for 10 years and also worked at Wolf & Dessauer for 10 years.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the St. Joe Literary Club, the American Sewing Guild and was Past President of the DeKalb County Extension Homemakers.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Spencerville, with the Rev. Paul Row officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Carnahan-Baidinger & Walter Funeral Home, Spencerville, was in charge of arrangements.

FAIRVIEW - Claudie E. Stone, 88, 115 Carter St., Fairview, died at 3 p.m. Friday (Jan. 23, 2004) in Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born Sept. 19, 1915, the son of Andrew and Hattie Connley Stone.
He married Melba Brown on Dec. 30, 1945 in Canton.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Andrew Stone, Fairview, a daughter, Lynda (and Donald) Luman of Urbana, a sister, Georgia (and John) Schleich, Fairview, and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Vernice Slater.
He was a farmer and member of the Fulton County Farm Bureau. He was a WWII Army veteran serving as a Master Sargent in the African and European Theatre and was a member of the Roy Miller American Legion Post 644 for fifty years. He was a member of the Providence Chapel United Methodist Church. Military rites will be conducted in his legion post.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Oaks-Hines Funeral Home, Canton with the Rev. John Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Chapel United Methodist Church.

GALESBURG - Sylvia L. Stotler, 89, 2345 N. Seminary St., formerly of West Branch, Iowa, died at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 14, 2004) in Seminary Manor.
She was born Feb. 20, 1914, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of William and Anna Egger Cooper.
She married Harold C. Stotler on Sept. 14, 1944, in Marion, Iowa. He died May 30, 1987.
Surviving are twin daughters, Cheryl (and Tom) McKinnon, Galesburg, and Charon Nelson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Eleanor Schlimmer, Monticello, Iowa; and three granddaughters. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
She graduated from Monticello, Iowa, High School in 1932 and attended the University of Northern Iowa.
She lived in West Branch, Iowa, most of her life and lived in Galesburg since 1996.
She was a homemaker and owned and operated Star Grocery in West Branch for 18 years. She had taught school in Muscatine, Johnson and Cedar counties.
She was a member of West Branch United Methodist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and a member of the church circle. She was past Worthy Matron of West Branch OES, was a member of Questers and had been a Girl Scout leader.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in West Branch United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Patrick officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in West Branch Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

OQUAWKA - Ike Lee Stotler, 50, Oquawka, died at 11:25 a.m. Saturday (June 14, 2003) at home.
He was born Jan. 18, 1953, in Monmouth, the son of James A. and Stella M. Cain Stotler.
He married Cindy Millard in September of 1973, in Monmouth.
Surviving are one daughter, Jody (and Chris) Riedel, Oquawka; eight sisters, Hazel (and John) Solis, Techaphi, Calif., Rosemary (and Bill) O'Daniel, Galesburg, Judy (and Donny) Blakley, Sun City, Calif., Bonnie (and Brian) Dixon, Burlington, Iowa, Lindy McVey and Jeannie Westby, both of Monmouth, Susie (and David) Eller, Rialto, Calif., and Donna Couch, Mobile, Ala.; five brothers, Jack (and Gloria) Stotler, Carthage, Al (and Ruthie) Stotler, Sunrise, Fla., John Henry Stotler, Quincy, Charles (and Alicia) Stotler, Hesperia, Calif., and Victor Stotler, Monmouth; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
He was reared and educated in the Monmouth area schools, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1972.
He was a commercial painter at Scott Decorating of the Quad Cities.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Monmouth Cemetery, with the Rev. Terry Cain officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday and Wednesday at Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth; family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
A memorial fund is being established to be designated later.

GALESBURG - James F. Stout Jr., 77, 1023 Pine St., died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 10, 2004) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born July 31, 1926, in Galesburg, the son of James F. and Bessie Barker Stout Sr.
He married Kathleen Neill in West Point in 1947. He married Connie Webb in Jacksonville on April 2, 1959.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Steven (and Judy) Stout, Utica, Robin (and Elsie) Stout, Chappaqua, N.Y., David (and Margaret) Tate, The Woodlands Texas; three daughters, Sue Stout-Tuccillo, Palatine, Debra Tate, Urbana, and Pamela Nour, Dallas Texas; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1944.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served from 1944 to 1946 aboard the LST 1138 in the South Pacific.
He lived most his life in Galesburg.
He worked as a towerman and clerk at Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He also worked as receiving room manager at Carson Pirie Scott and Sears.
He was a member of East Main Congregational United Church of Christ, Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, the U.S. LST Association and the Illinois LST Association. He was a former board member of the Galesburg Railroad Museum and a member of the Prairie Hub Club.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 285.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospitals or the American Legion Post 285 honor guard.

LOMAX - Amble Bernice Stout, 91, Lomax, died at 9:45 p.m. Friday (Dec. 19, 2003) in the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
She was born July 12, 1912, in Henderson County, the daughter of Warren K. and L. Irene Worley Dowell.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Fisher, Davenport, Iowa, Norma McSparen and Doris (and Richard) Hawley, both of Lomax; one son, Milford (and Beatrice) Pence, Lomax; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
She had worked at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown and was a domestic housekeeper in Burlington for several years. She also had worked at the Lomax Canning Factory, and later worked in housekeeping at the former Burlington Hospital.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Banks and Beals Funeral Home, Stronghurst, with the Rev. Carolyn Watkins officiating. Burial will be in Stronghurst Cemetery. TOULON - Frances M. "Fran" Strom, 70, Toulon, died at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 10, 2004) in Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born Feb. 20, 1933, in LaHarpe, the daughter of Harry and Mary Melvin Collins.
She married Ralph"Mink" Strom on Sept. 11, 1959, in Galesburg. He died Aug. 15, 1991.
Surviving are three daughters, Glenda (and Tom) Carruthers, Galesburg, Christy (and Scott) Kave, East Moline, and Kelly Strom, Kewanee; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Clarence Collins, Galesburg, and Gary Collins, Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She graduated from Abingdon High School.
She worked as office manager at Grandview Service Co. in Toulon for 30 years.
She was a member of the Toulon American Legion Auxiliary and Toulon United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in DeBolt-Kidd Funeral Home, Toulon, with the Rev. Paul Wier officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.

PEORIA - Frank Edward Stubbs, 85, Peoria, died at 1:25 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 20, 2003) in OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 20, 1918, in Humeston, Iowa, the son of Lawrence Dodrich and Lena Boyce Stubbs.
He married Robby Anderson on Nov. 18, 1945, in Peoria.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Curtis (and Brenda) Stubbs, Peoria; a daughter, Cynthia (and William) Hanna, Denver; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the infantry in the South Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He graduated from the University of California with a gemologist degree and from the Gemological Institute of America as a gem appraiser. He also graduated from Bradley Horological School.
He was president of Potter & Anderson Jewelers. He was retired.
He was a life member of the American Gem Society and a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Peoria Association of Commerce Board, the Better Business Bureau and a senior golf league.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Peoria and attended First Presbyterian Church in Avon Park, Fla.
Cremation was accorded. Services were Sunday in Hillside Village, with the Rev. Paul Park officiating. Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois was in charge of arrangements.

GALESBURG - Rachel Mather Sullivan, 98, 2345 N. Seminary St., died at 2:25 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 7, 2003) in Seminary Manor.
She was born July 19, 1905, in Sewickley, Pa., the daughter of Roy A. and Emma Hammersmith Mather.
She married Robert J. Sullivan on Oct. 29, 1931, in New York City. He died in 1944.
Surviving are two daughters, Caroline (and Jack) Ellingwood, Galesburg, and Sally Sullivan, Madison, N.J.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and five sisters.
She received a BFA degree in illustrations from Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1926 and teaching degrees from Columbia University, New York.
She worked as an art teacher in Washington, Pa., New Rochelle, N.Y., and Westfield, N.J, and was supervisor of art in Westfield schools for 32 years, retiring in 1976. She taught adult education courses in ceramics and worked at Westfield Day Care Center until moving to Galesburg in 1994.
Cremation will be accorded. Private services will be later. No visitation is planned. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the National Epilepsy Foundation, the American Association for the Blind or the Knox County Humane Society.

ALEXIS - Ines Claire Swanson, 83, Alexis, died at 11:07 a.m. Monday (Dec. 29, 2003) in Seminary Manor, Galesburg.
She was born April 26, 1920, in Alexis, the daughter of William and Grace Sharp Sims.
She married Richard Halsted on July 9, 1938, in Davenport, Iowa. She married Richard Swanson on April 11, 1964, in Aledo. He died June 18, 1974.
Surviving are two daughters, Fayetta Maxine (and Virgil) Fuhr, Taylor Ridge, and Roberta Ann (and William) Pecsi, Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Charles Sims, Quincy; a sister, Barbara Young, Chico, Calif.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
She was reared and educated in Alexis, graduating from Alexis High School.
She worked at the Burlington Iowa Ordinance Plant during World War II.
She graduated from the Marinella School of Cosmetology in Davenport, Iowa.
She was a homemaker and worked in salons in Davenport and Aledo, and owned and operated Ines' Beauty Shop in Aledo.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, with Phil Cooper officiating. Friends may call Wednesday morning at the funeral home; family will be present from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery.

Swanson, Robert

GALESBURG - Robert Swanson, 85, 1774 Grand Ave., died at 10:30 a.m. Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) at home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1917, in Kewanee, the son of Irving and Fannie Gillfillan Swanson.
He married Shirley Hainline in 1939 in Burlington, Iowa. He married Alice Stuckey in 1962 in Galesburg. She died Sept. 12, 1999.
Surviving are a son, Gary A. (and Dorothy) Swanson, Oquawka; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served four years as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class in Hastings, Neb., and Great Lakes.
He was a truck driver for the former W.A. Jordan Company for 28 years and was an assembler at Admiral for 10 years, retiring in June 1983.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, with military honors by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
