Wetherbee, Charles R.

GALESBURG - Charles R. Wetherbee, 78, 228 Seminole Drive, died at 8:49 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 2, 2003), in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born April 20, 1925, in Galesburg, the son of Rollin F. and Charlotte Tainter Wetherbee.
He married Helen (Herbie) Holmquist on June 26, 1949, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, James (and Narelle) Wetherbee, Sydney, Australia, and Thomas (and Lisa) Wetherbee, Piedmont, Calif.; two daughters, Sara (and Barry) Koeneke, Hallsville, Mo., and Jane (and J.C.) Wise, Woodstock; and six grandsons.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943 and from Knox College with a degree in mathematics in 1949.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 106th Infantry and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and four Battle Stars.
He lived most of his life in Galesburg.
He was admissions counselor at Knox College for 26 years, became director of alumni affairs in 1952 and from 1968 to 1975 was vice president for development and alumni affairs. He was named an honorary trustee in February 2002.
He was instrumental in the Burlington Northern Railroad gift of Lake Rice properties and golf course to Knox College.
He also was vice president and trust officer at Bank of Galesburg from 1975 to 1979. After retiring, he volunteered as a development consultant at Knox.
He was a former board member of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of Phi Delta Theta at Knox College and a member and past president of Soangetaha Country Club.
Private graveside service will be Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.

Wetterow, M. Bernadine

VICTORIA - M. Bernadine Wetterow, 86, Victoria, died at 8:45 p.m. Monday (Jan. 5, 2004) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born July 12, 1917, in Dahinda, the daughter of Delbert "Del" and Bertha Munts Howard.
She married Glen S. Wetterow on Sept. 30, 1938, in Burlington, Iowa. He died March 1, 1984.
Surviving are seven sons, Gerald Glen "Yogi" (and Barbara) Wetterow, Galva, George Eugene (and Diane) Wetterow, Peoria, Terry Lee (and Beverly) Wetterow, Knoxville, Calvin Leslie (and Sally) Wetterow, London Mills, Howard Bruce Wetterow, Abingdon, Robert Wayne (and Shelley) Wetterow, Galesburg, and Ed Wetterow, Monmouth; seven daughters, Patricia Ann Clewell and Lorene Faye (and Mason) Simpson, both of Galesburg, Glenda Adeane Hollis, Monmouth, and Mary Sue Wetterow, Doris Jane Wetterow, Andrea Jean Wetterow and Diane Marie McCoy, all of Victoria; a sister, Della Mae (and Howard) Bainbridge, Galva; 29 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Wendy Horn, two brothers, two sisters and a great-granddaughter.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Victoria United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marty Briney officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m Friday at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Burial will be in Victoria Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be designated later.
William E. Wetzel

MINOCQUA, Wis. - William E. Wetzel, 90, Minocqua, died Sunday (Oct. 26, 2003) at home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1911, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of William C. and Frieda Augusta Berndt Wetzel.
He married Dorothy L. Barker on Nov. 26, 1943, in Alexandria, Va.
Surviving are his wife; a son, William C. Wetzel, Cedarburg, Wis.; a daughter, Barbara (and Lawrence) Felsecker, Galesburg; a sister, Ruth (and Donald) Raabe, Minocqua; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served 18 months in the Pacific Theatre.
He worked at Wisconsin Electric Power Company for 35 years.
He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 317 and American Legion Post 451.
Funeral was today in Bolger Funeral Home-Minocqua Chapel, with Chaplain John McCaughn officiating. Burial will be Saturday in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield, Wis.

GALESBURG - Alice M. White, 75, 566 Arnold St., died at 3:56 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 20, 2003) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 20, 1928, in Delong, the daughter of Rollo and Maggie Morss Brown.
She married Hugh E. White Jr. on Aug. 22, 1948, in Galesburg.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, Ed (and Lynda) White and Mike White, both of Galesburg; a daughter, Nancy (and Bryce) Rehn, Edwards; six sisters, Helen Timmons, Peoria, Arlene Rossell, Prescott, Ariz., JoAnn Truman, Bettendorf, Iowa, Patty (and Bill) Smead, Palatine, Barbara (and Jim) Green, Nampa, Idaho, and Marilyn (and Al) Smith, Galesburg; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sisters.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1946.
She was a homemaker and worked at Admiral for 18 years.
She was active in the Reading Buddies at Nielson School and was a Brownie troop leader.
She was a member of First Christian Church and a member of its Winacouple class, a youth leader, past president of Christian Women Fellowship and a past Sunday school teacher.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Greg Fitch officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

CANTON - Dale White, 90, 1750 N. Fourth Ave., Canton, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 24, 2004) in Heartland Health Care Center, Canton.
He was born May 1, 1913 in London Mills, the son of Gus and Rita Felton White.
He married Ilene Martin on Jan. 4, 1933, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 1999.
He is survived by a sister, Velma, of Nevada, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Carol Jean White.
He was a farmer in the London Mills - Canton area and retired in 1979. He was of the Methodist Faith.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with the Rev. Stacy Tomich officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.

KIRKWOOD - Jane W. Whitmyer, 85, rural Kirkwood, died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 18, 2004) in Community Medical Center, Monmouth.
She was born Jan. 7, 1919, in Kirkwood, the daughter of James "Steve" and Ida Grassmiller Walston.
She married Harry E. Whitmyer on Oct. 25, 1952, in Galesburg. He died Oct. 20, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was reared and educated in Rozetta, attending rural schools and graduating from Monmouth High School in 1937.
She was a homemaker, farmed with her father and husband and worked in Dr. Babcock's office in Biggsville for 20 years.
She was a member of Biggsville United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth, with the Rev. Carol Stufflebeam officiating. Friends may call Monday at the funeral home; friends will gather one hour before the service. Burial will be in Biggsville Cemetery.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Elmer R. Wickstrom, 78, died Wednesday (Jan. 7, 2004).
He was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Buffalo, N.Y.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Shirley Wickstrom, Fort Worth; two daughters, Janice (and Joe) Williams, Arlington, and Sallie (and Jerrell) Ward, North Richland Hills; a sister, Mildred (and Charles) Gallagher; and four grandchildren.
A decorated Air Force veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, he retired as a senior master sergeant in 1974. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with 16 clusters.
After military service, he worked as a letter carrier and driving instructor for the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a member of the VFW, National Association of Letter Carriers and Masonic Lodge 18 in Roswell, N.M.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Garden Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial will be in DFW National Cemetery.

BUSHNELL, Fla. - Memorial service for Anita Lorraine Wickwire, 66, Bushnell, Fla., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Patterson Funeral Home, Elmwood. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
She died Feb. 4, 2003, in Hernando-Pasco Hospital, Brooksville, Fla. No visitation is planned.

ABINGDON - Gary R. Wiley, 67, rural Abingdon, died at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 18, 2004) in Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born Feb. 20, 1936, in Louisa County, Iowa, the son of Harvey and Esther Wiley.
He married Betty Blair on Dec. 12, 1959, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Lynn Jones, Abingdon; a son, Scott Wiley, Abingdon; two brothers, Tobe Wiley, Wapello, Iowa, and Richard Wiley, Muscatine, Iowa; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
He graduated from Morning Sun, Iowa, High School and attended Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
He was a baseball pitcher in the New York Yankee organization and later was a scout.
He worked at the former Rowe Manufacturing in Galesburg for 10 years and was manager of the heating and air conditioning division of May Company in Galesburg.
He managed the Galesburg Merchants baseball team and coached little league baseball in Abingdon.
He was of Methodist faith.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Dinges and Eleanor Landon officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery.

HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Dorthella Bondi Williams, 84, 3551 Windsor Spring Road, formerly of Galesburg, Ill., died at 3:45 p.m. Sept. 7, 2003, in Brentwood Health Care Center, Waynesboro.
She was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Galesburg, the daughter of Earl I. and Anna M. Peak McGill.
She married Clyde Moss in 1939, in Iowa. He preceded her in death. She married Robert A. Williams on Aug. 1, 1953, in Galesburg. He died in 1986.
Surviving are one son, David (and Billie) Moss, Naperville; one daughter, Rubianna (and Donald) Porter, Cleveland, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Clifton, one daughter, Martha Sue, and one brother.
She graduated from Galesburg High School and attended Knox College Conservatory of Music.
She was employed as a bookkeeper at O.T. Johnson and retired from Knox Manor Nursing Home, where she was activity director.
She was a member of the Delvers Social Club, Toastmasters International and Missionary and Mother of Jenkins Memorial CME in Hephzibah.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 25 at Allen Chapel AME, Galesburg, with the Rev. Lindsey Roosevelt officiating. There will be no visitation. Her body has been donated to the Medical College of Georgia. Cremation will be accorded, and burial will be at a later date in Galesburg.

GALESBURG - Marian F. Williams, 83, 1140 N. Cedar St., died at 1:08 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 11, 2004) in Rosewood Care Center.
She was born Nov. 5, 1920 in Galesburg, the daughter of George and Ellen Swanson Sauter.
She married Wilbur G. Williams on July 16, 1950, in Galesburg. He died June 24, 2000.
Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie (and Steve) Fransene, Galesburg; a stepdaughter, Sally Jo (and Richard P.) Williams, Oquawka; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Richard Lee Williams.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1939.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Alpha Iota Sorority, the Knox County Genealogical Society and the Tri-County Travelors.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Larsen officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
