MONMOUTH - Huston Harlow, 78, rural Monmouth, died at 6 a.m. Friday (April 16, 2004), at home.
He was born June 21, 1925, in Monmouth, the son of Huston Sr. and Elgie Pullen Harlow.
He married Dorothy Carlson on Nov. 26, 1949, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Jim (and Ruth) Harlow, Monmouth; two daughters, Jean (and Dave) Harlow-Truesdell, Jacksonville, and Elgie (and Ken) Deimeke, Mexico, Mo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a lifetime resident of Lennox Township of Warren County where he attended Monmouth Public schools.
He had been a farmer his entire life.
He was of Methodist faith.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Corman Memorial Home, Roseville, with the Rev. Susan Geer officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Monmouth Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church of Monmouth.

GALESBURG - M. Janice Horack, 66, 1355 Lindsay Lane, died at 3:26 a.m. Monday (April 12, 2004) in University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.
She was born June 15, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Albert and Garnet Hank Jansen.
She married James W. Horack on April 21, 1976, in Florissant, Mo.
Surviving are her husband; her mother of Galesburg; four sons, James (and Kathy) Horack Jr., LaLuz, N.M., Mitchell Engle, Providence, R.I., Michael (and Kendall) Engle, Galesburg, and Richard L. (and Bridgett) Horack, St. Louis, Mo.; six daughters, Gina (and Doug) Skinner, Eatown, N.J., Debbie (and Dave) Schlack, Ogden, Utah, Brenda (and Dale) Long, Alamogordo, N.M., Linda (and Mark) Walters, Troy, Denise Engle, Galesburg, and Diana Engle, Gaithersburg, Mo.; a brother, Thomas (and Alice) Jansen, Eden, N.C.; a sister, Tammy Corcoran, Wilmington, N.C.; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She worked as a transportation secretary at Pre-Fab Transit.
She was of Catholic Faith.
She was an organ and tissue donor. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Watson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

BERWICK - Ruth L. Inman, 90, Berwick, died at 4:25 a.m. Monday (April 12, 2004) in Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born March 22, 1914, in Conran, Mo., the daughter of Asa R. and Margaret McGee Pistole.
She married Lyman J. Inman on Aug. 2, 1930, in Monmouth. He died July 10, 1994.
Surviving are a son, Larry (and Betty) Inman, Urbana; two daughters, Joan McVey and Jeanette Jared, both of Berwick; six half-brothers, Lloyd Swank, Galesburg, Douglas Pistole and Asa Pistole, both of Mississippi, Augusta Pistole of Oklahoma, Charles Pistole of Florida and Jack Pistole of Missouri; a half-sister, Alyce Barbero, Galesburg; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two half-sisters, two half-brothers, a grandson and a son-in-law.
She lived in Batchtown for a few years before moving to Berwick, where she lived most of her life.
She was a member of Berwick Baptist Church.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Berwick Baptist Church, with the Rev. Melody Andrews officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Berwick Cemetery. Corman Memorial Home, Roseville, is in charge of arrangements.

Jester, Alta Fay

GALESBURG - Alta Fay Jester, 91, a resident of Hawthorne Inn, died at 5:09 p.m. Wednesday (May 28, 2003) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born July 15, 1911, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Clara Parsons.
She married Harry L. Jester on Jan. 21, 1934, in Paola, Kan. He died April 17, 1988.
Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Shelby L. Jester, Wichita, Kan.; a son, Charles W. (and Lana) Jester, Dahinda; two granddaughters and a great-grandson.
She worked 25 years for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in 1980.
She moved from Kansas City, Mo., to Galesburg in July, 2000. She played the piano for special occasions at Hawthorne Inn and had played piano accompaniment to silent films in theaters in Kansas City.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Galesburg.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Grulke officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.

BURLINGTON, Iowa - Bertha Amelia Jones, 91, Stronghurst, Ill., died at 9:10 p.m. Friday (May 28, 2004) in Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
She was born Nov. 2, 1912, in Floyd County, Va., the daughter of Elijah Monroe and Roseanna Duncan Alley.
She married Virgil Raymond Jones on Jan. 30, 1935. He died in June 1985.
Surviving are one son, Richard Jones of Tempe, Ariz.; a daughter, Ruthann (and David) Thomas of Seneca, S.C.; a sister, Elsie Mitchell of Burlington, Iowa; three grandsons; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Jones, a brother, a sister, a half-brother, and a half-sister.
She lived in Burlington, Iowa, and Lomax, Ill., for many years.
She worked as a nurse's aide at Klein Memorial Hospital in Burlington from 1965 until 1979.
She was an active member of the Lomax-Carman Senior Citizens and the Lomax Christian Church.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Lomax Christian Church, Lomax, with the Rev. Carolyn Watkins officiating. Burial will be in Crane Cemetery near Lomax. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

BERWICK - Retta Hazel Kidwell, 80, Berwick, died at 11:20 p.m. Friday (May 30, 2003) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born Feb. 4, 1923, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of George W. and Hazel Cole Condiff.
She married Leo A. "Bert" Kidwell on June 1, 1940, in St. Augustine. He died March 31, 1999.
Surviving are a son, Larry Kidwell, Gilson; a daughter, Kay Cecil; six grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She worked at the former Blue Bell Manufacturing Company in Abingdon and was a homemaker.
She lived in Berwick since 1979.
Cremation was accorded. No services are planned. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Warren County Humane Society.

She died March 28, 2004, in Rosewood Care Center. No visitation is planned. Burial will be later in Union Ridge Cemetery, Chicago. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

BRIMFIELD - Kay Ashley Kingdon, 62, 212 E. Calhoun St., died at 5:56 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 6, 2003) at home.
She was born Dec. 10, 1940, in Peoria, the daughter of Burton N. and Elizabeth A. Short Ashley.
She married Frank L. Kingdon on Nov. 28, 1994, in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Surviving are her husband, in Brimfield; one son, Scott (and Laura) Cecil, Perrysburg, Ohio; one daughter, Marsha (and William) Dietemyer, Elmore, Ohio; one stepson, Randy (and Bev) Kingdon, Brimfield; one stepdaughter, Debbie (and Larry) Blackburn, Brimfield; two brothers, David Ashley, North Aurora, and Brian Ashley, Piedmont, S.C.; one sister, Sue Ashley-Lakin, East Peoria; two grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She was employed in hotel sales for many years by several Holiday Inns. She also worked for Pier I Imports, Peoria.
She was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of the Brimfield Library Board.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Patterson Funeral Home, Elmwood, with the Rev. Don Blasing officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Brimfield Cemetery.

GALESBURG - Mary Ann Kraft, 76, 1145 Frank St., died at 4:20 p.m. Friday (May 30, 2003) in Galesburg Terrace Nursing Center.
She was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Manson City, Iowa, the daughter of David and Dora Johnson Smidt.
She married Francis G. Kraft on Feb. 17, 1945, in Pomeroy, Iowa.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Kevin (and Karen) Kraft, East Galesburg; three daughters, Gerry (and Rodger) Coon, Galesburg, Janice (and Fred) Hall, East Galesburg, and Jackie (and Steven) Knuth, East Galesburg; a brother, Henry (and Alice) Smidt of Florida; two sisters, Gerti Gerdes, Pomeroy, and Rosie Walter, Naples, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.
She was reared and educated in Pomeroy.
She was a homemaker and a school crossing guard at Losey and Maple streets for 36 years.
She attended East Galesburg Community Chapel and was a member of the Prairie Chicken Campers Club, Kewanee.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, with the Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery, Wataga.
