Melvin C. "Mel" Norris, 63, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. He was born on June 24, 1944, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Warren N. and Marie C.McCarty Norris. Melvin was reared and educated in Burlington where he attended local schools and Burlington High School.
He married Juanita M. Heine on June 22, 2002 in Monmouth, Illinois.
Melvin worked 21 years at Warren Acheivement Industries in Monmouth, and then drove for "City Cab Company in both Monmouth and Galesburg. He loved bowling, fishing, and bingo.
Melvin is survived by the wife Juanita M.Norris of Monmouth, One daughter Brenda Dillie of Burlington, Iowa, One son Danny Norris of Stronghurst, Illinois, and one granddaughter.
Also surviving is his sister Barbara Wagoner of Katy, Texas.
Services: Mel's family is planning a visitation to receive their friends on Monday January 28 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Cremation will then be accorded. A memorial fund is being established by his family.
Donna D. Bogert

Donna D. Bogert, age 92, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the Extended Care, OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. Donna was born on May 30, 1915, in Phelps, Illinois; the daughter of Vincent and Marian Sprout. She was reared in Cameron, Illinois and attended country schools and Monmouth High School. She received her nurses training at Monmouth Hospital specializing in O.B.
Donna married Ernest J. Bogert April 1948 in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Donna was a registered nurse first working at Cook County Hospital from 1936 - 1940, then Wesley Hospital 1940-1941 and then Monmouth Hospital 1941-1942. She then went back to Chicago's Lying IN Hospital from 1942 to 1979. Lastly, she worked at Community Memorial Hospital from 1979 - 1986 and her retirement. Donna was a member of Fairview Center United Methodist Church and a member of it's Missionary Society. After her retirement, Donna volunteered with the Bloodmobile, the Cameron Christian Care Center, and at Starting Point.
Donna is survived her sister Florence A. Baker of Winchester, Pennsylvania and by a special friend, Erma Morrison of Monmouth. Also survivng are several neices and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Timothy Bogert. and two brothers Orrin Sprout, Burnill Sprout, and one sister, Marion Peterson.
Services: A funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2008, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. An intermenty service will be at 1:00p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at Chapel Hill Garden South Cemetery in Worth, Illinois. Memorials can be made to either the Extended Care at OSF Holy Family Medical Center or Community Hospices of America. Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
Robert C. "Bob" Objartel

Robert C. Objartel, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, on February 5th at 12:33 am. Robert was born on January 8th, 1921 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Roscoe C. and Leah A Ahlstrand Objartel. Bob was raised in Monmouth where he attended the local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1939. He also attended a year at Monmouth College and then completed Brown's Business College in Galesburg, Illinois. Robert entered service in 1939 serving in the Field Artillery and then the Air Force until his discharge in 1945. He first married Jane Pearson who passed away on November 18, 2006. He later was married to Donna Burkitt on April 8, 1973 in Rock Island, Illinois. She is surviving. Robert first worked as an accountant for Bowman Shoe Store in Monmouth, and then was employed at the National Bank of Monmouth, also as an accountant. He then established Federal Accounting Services in Monmouth which he operated for many years at 521 West First Avenue in Monmouth. Bob retired 2003. He is a member of I.A.A.I. Independent Accountants Association of Illinois. Bob is a member of the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 American Legion and a life member of the J.W.Clendenin Post 2301 Veterans of Foreign Wars. In earlier days, Robert also played the trumpet and put together his own Jazz Band which often played for local events and at such places as the "Rooftop Garden" and "Harbor Lights Supper Club " both in Galesburg. Bob was an avid golfer and formerly a member of Monmouth Country Club. He also loved to fish and go boating and was an avid stamp collector. Bob was also a founding member of Lake Warren.
Surviving Bob is his wife Donna Objartel of Monmouth, Illinois.

Memorial funds have been established for either OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth or Monmouth Nursing Home.
Charles L. "J.R." Peoples, Jr.

Charles L. "J.R." Peoples, Jr., 59, of Monmouth, Passed away at 12:50 p.m., February 10, 2008, at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Charles was born on August 11, 1948 in Monmouth, Illinois. He is the son of Charles L. and Marie Lunette Walace Peoples. Jr. was reared and educated in Monmouth, and attended Monmouth schools, he graduated Monmouth High School in 1966. He then attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois and Monmouth College. J.R served his country, he was a member of the United States Navy, and served over seas as a Jet Mechanic aboard an aircraft carrier. Jr. was employed by the State of Illinois DOT Highway Garage in Monmouth, as a mechanic until, due to his health, he was forced to retire. He enjoyed drawing and art. J.R. also liked playing cards and Dominos.
Survivors include, one daughter; Amanda Murphy-Hawkins of Davenport, Iowa, two step-sons; Jason and Jeremy Mettler both of Monmouth. Also surviving are four grandchildren, one sister; Peggy Walton of Moline, Illinois, one brother; Louis Peoples of Monmouth, and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Services: A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2008, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Friends may call and hour prior from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. where his family will receive friends. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery.
Oscar "Butch" Schilb, III

Oscar "Butch" Schilb, III, age 39, of Kirkwood, Ill., passed away at 12:25 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Ill. Butch was born on April 18, 1968 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Oscar Jr. and Elwanda Fisher Schilb.
He was reared and educated in Monmouth attending Monmouth Public Schools, Monmouth High School and Yorkwood High School.
Butch first worked at Farmland doing night clean up and then Spacemark doing building construction. Lastly he went to work for Nelson Tree Service. Butch enjoyed fishing, bow hunting, NASCAR, golf and country music. He was an avid story teller. Butch loved spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his finance Carla Gillette, of Kirkwood, one son Oscar Schilb IV of Kirkwood, his mother, Elwanda Schilb of Monmouth, one sister Toni Schilb of Rantoul, Ill. and one brother Adam Foreman of Rantoul. He is also survived by one niece Olivia Patterson, and two nephews Blake Schilb and Tyler Patterson II all of Rantoul, several aunts and uncles.
He is preceded in death by his father Oscar Schilb Jr., his grandparents and one brother John Schilb
Services: A funeral service will be at 11:00 am. on Monday, February 18, 2008 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Cremation will be accorded following the service. His family will be present to receive friends at Turnbull's on Sunday, February 17, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial fund is being established to be designated later. Cards may be sent to P.O. Shirley Fay Merrill

Shirley Fay Merrill, age 82, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. at Roseville Country Manor. Shirley was born on August 10, 1925 in Youngtown, Illinois, the daughter of Lester and Vera (Romine) Merrill. She was reared in the Youngstown and Roseville area and attended Youngstown Schools. Shirley never married. She was of the protestant faith.
Shirley is survived by one sister Marilyn Peyton of Las Vegas, NV,
and one sister-in-law Jennie Merrill of Monmouth, Illinois
Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews are also surviving.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Services: A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25, 2008, at the Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, Illinois. Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. A memorial fund is being established for Roseville Country Manor in Roseville, Illinois.
George M. Brown

George M. Brown, age 91, of Monmouth, Illinois, and formerly of Eldorado, Illinois; passed away at 3:05 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. George was born on October 23, 1916 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Ellis and Estelle (Kinnick) Brown.
He was reared and educated in the St. Mary's, Missouri area. He received his Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University.
George served briefly in the U.S. Army as a PFC.
He married Dorothy Wolf on May 22, 1937 in St. Marys, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2006.
George was a teacher, principal and superintendent at various Illinois Schools. He was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Club and the Masonic Lodge. In earlier years he coached Little League Baseball and Refereed Basketball.
George is survived by two daughters Betty McRoberts (James) of Princeton, Indiana and Joella Kieffer (Ronald) of Eldorado, Illinois. Seven sons Dr. Richard E. Brown (Colleen) of Springfield, Illinois; Eugene M. Brown (Penny) of Hillsboro,Oregon; Thomas L. Brown (Barabara) of Coloma, Wisconsin; John E. Brown (Gaye) of Sonoma, California; Kenneth W. Brown (Kathy) of Westminster, Colorado; Robert O. Brown (Marilyn) of Mt.Carmel, Illinois; Donald G. Brown (Wanda) of Monmouth, Illinois. Thirty grandchildren, Forty-Two Great Grandchildren, and Six Great Great grandchildren. Four Sisters Helen Armbruster of Denver, Colorado; Wilma Miller of Dexter, Missouri; Olive DeRouse (Art) of Belleville, Illinois; Audrey Hart (Lee) of Phoenix, Arizona. One Brother Ellis Brown ( Nell ) of Ada, Oklahoma.
He preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and one sister.
Services: A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. His family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening at Turnbull's.
Cremation will be accorded following the service.
A memorial fund is being established for either OSF Holy Family Hospice or F-Wing of OSF Holy Family Medical Center.
Iris L. Bruington

Iris L. Bruington, age 95, of Coldbrook, Illinois, went to join Dale at 7:05 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. Iris was born on August 10, 1912, in Cameron, Illinois the daughter of Jesse B. and Frances Hoy Mitchell. She was reared and educated in Cameron and attended rural schools.
Iris married Dale E. Bruington on August 23, 1932 in Springfield, Illinois. He preceded her on November 30, 1988.
Iris was a farm wife and devoted help mate with her husband. She was a member of Coldbrook Christian Church. Her family, friends, and her home were her main interests.
She is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Iris is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale one sister Lucille and two brothers Jesse and Art.
Services: A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in the Mosher Cemetery. Her family will be present to receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Turnbull's. A memorial fund is being established.
Bernice S. Critser

Bernice S. Critser, age 78, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 6:40 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. Bernice was born on April 23, 1929, in Elgin, Illinois, the daughter of Ernest E. and Nellie Ford Sandall.
She was reared and educated in Genoa, Illinois until the age of 14 when her family moved to Yorkville, Illinois. After graduating from Yorkville High School, Bernice attended Knox College where she received her degree in 1951 and then attended Western Illinois University in Macomb.
Bernice married Kenneth E. Critser on March 18, 1951 in Yorkville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1983.
She was a teacher and homemaker. Bernice was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church where she had served as Elder and Trustee. She was active in the community and served on the District 38 School Board and it's Foundation, the Warren County Library Board, Habitat for Humanity and the board of Buchanan Center for the Arts Board.
She was a member of the Community Medical Center Auxiliary and also Chapter E of PEO.
She is survived by two sons, John K. Critser and Beth of Columbia, Missouri
and James W. Critser and Diana of Monmouth.,
Two Grandaughters Jessie Critser and Rebecca A. Crister
Two grandsons Dirk J . Critser and Nikki and Paul J. Critser and Julie.
Also surviving are three great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.
Services: A memorial service will be at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, Illinois on Wednesday March 12, 2008 at 10:00 am. Cremation has been accorded.
Fellowship will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the memorial service.
A memorial fund is being established for either Faith United Presbyterian Church of Buchanan Center for the Arts or Plant a tree in her memory.
Dorothy J. Youngblood

Dorothy J. Youngblood, age 79, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, IL on March 14, 2008 at 8:30 pm. Dorothy was born August 16, 1928 in Oregon, Illinois and is the daughter of Alva C. and Ella Mae Dyer Richards. She was reared and educated in
Pine Creek Township near Mt.Morris, Illinois and graduated from Mount Morris High School. She then completed the Katherine Shaw Bethea School of Nursing in Dixon, Illinois where she received her nurse's degree. She married Ansel Royal Youngblood on March 27, 1950 in Dixon, Illinois. He preceded her on December 14, 1984. Dorothy was a registered nurse and a member of the Illinois Nurses Association. She began her nursing at Monmouth Hospital and then with Community Memorial Hospital and had a 32 year career retiring in 1993. Dorothy was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Monmouth and currently is a member of First Christian Church. In earlier years she was most active in both Cub and Boy Scouting for her sons and grandsons. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cooking. Surviving Dorothy is one daughter, Teddi L. Galbreath and Ron of Monmouth, IL. Three sons; A. Kim Youngblood and Patricia of Schaumburg, Illinois; Gary L. Youngblood and Pam of Monmouth, Illinois; and Dean L. Youngblood and Mary of Galesburg, Illinois There are nine Grandchildren and Seven Great Grandchildren surviving.
Two Sisters; Shirley Smith of Cedarville, Illinois; and Jean Harrenstein of Phoenix, Arizona.
One Brother, William Glover & Sue of Dixon, Illinois.
A number of other relatives also survive. Preceding her in death are her parents, Husband, and One Sister.
Services: A Funeral Service for Dorothy will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday March 19, 2008 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Dixon, Illinois.
Her family plans to receive friends at Turnbulls on Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
Memorial funds have been established for either the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Gerald L. Youngquist

Gerald L. Youngquist, 77, died at his home surrounded by his family on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008.
Gerald was born August 29, 1930, in Gowrie, Iowa, the son of the late G. Alvin and Ruby (nee Jacobson) Youngquist. On April 22, 1953, he was united in marriage to Rozella Zenor at Zion Lutheran Church in Gowrie.
Gerald was a graduate of Gowrie High School, class of 1948, and Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota.. He served with the 79th Engineer Construction Battalion in Korea from 1951 to 1953.
Gerald attended Augustana Lutheran Seminary, Rock Island, Illinois, and was ordained into the Ministry of the Augustana Lutheran Church in 1962. His first call was to First Lutheran Church, Kirkland, Illinois, from 1962 to 1971. He served First Lutheran Church, Monmouth, Illinois, from 1971 through his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Monmouth Rotary Club, and was honored to be a Paul Harris Fellow, as well as District 6460 Governor in 1999-2000. In retirement he enjoyed restoring his Mustang convertible, traveling with Rose, and observing the accomplishments of his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Rose; his children Grant (Prisca) of Racine, Wisconsin; Andrew; and Karl (Mindy) of Monmouth; his five grandchildren, Hannah, Kiersten, Oscar, Kal and Arthur. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Wayne and Infant sister Yvonne; daughter-in-law Elizabeth; and sister-in-law Gerre
Services: A visitation will be held at Turnbull Funeral Home, Friday, March 28 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at First Lutheran Church, Monmouth, on Saturday, March 29 at 10:30 a.m., the Rev. Keith Killinger officiating. Burial of the ashes will take place in Gowrie, Iowa, in July. In Lieu of flowers, the family has suggested the memorials be given to Monmouth First Lutheran Church, Monmouth Rotary Club, or Strom Center.
James O. Burr

James O. Burr, age 88, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at his residence at 6:30 am on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. James was born on February 16, 1920, in Stronghurst, Illinois, the son of Herbert Clinton and Blanche Priscilla Renner Burr. He was reared and educated in the Stronghurst and the Gladstone Grade School, and attended the Gladstone High School. Following high school, James joined the United States Air Force in 1942, He served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was promoted to the rank of Sargent before his discharge 1946. He then joined the Reserves from 1950-1951. James married the love of his life, Vera Elizabeth Perdue on March 13, 1948, in Gladstone, IL and she currently is surviving.
James first went to work in the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant, in Middletown, Iowa and also for a time at the McKinnsey Rock Quarry. In 1951, he began farming with his father for a number of years near Gladstone. He then went to work for General Electric in 1972, in Burlington, IA, retiring from there in 1983. He also worked part-time as a custodian of Gladstone High, and Biggsville Grade School, as well as drove a school bus. Later in life, Jim and Vera owned and farmed a small acreage 2 miles west of Biggsville, IL. Jim and Vera moved to Oquawka in February 1990 after the sale of their farm. Jim was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Burlington and more recently was attending Faith Bible Church in Oquawka. Jim enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Jim is survived by his wife, Vera E. Burr of Oquawka, his daughter-in-law Debbie Burr Wirt of Burlington, Iowa. Two grandsons, William and Mark Burr, and one great grandson Cody Burr, one sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Duane Harden of Media, Illinois. as well as nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, two adopted sons, one daughter-in-law and two sisters.
Services: A graveside service will be at 11:00 a,m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at the Carman Cemetery, Carman, Illinois. His family will receive friends at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquwka, on Thursday morning from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to the Graveside in Carman.
