Virginia Sturtz
STERLING - Virginia Sturtz, 84, of Sterling, died Tuesday November 30, 2004 at her home.
Virginia was born September 21, 1920 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Burford) Sweet. She married Edward A. Sturtz on January 30, 1943 in Lanark. Virginia had farmed with her husband in the Lanark-Mt. Carroll area until his death on October 5, 1992. She attended Harvest Time Baptist Church in Rock Falls, and enjoyed writing poems and short stories.
Survivors include three daughters Linda (Kenneth) Springer of Dixon, Suzanne (Harlow) Pues of Freeport, and Judy (Terry) Young of Pensacola FL; six grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday at Schilling Funeral Home, with the Reverend Dalmus Meeks officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Freeport, IL.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Saturday at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
A memorial has been established to Multiple Sclerosis Society.

TINA SUE FISCHBACH
DIXON - Tina Sue Fishbach, 40, died early Thursday November 25, 2004 at KSB Hospitalafter an illness. She had been employed as a waitress at the Candlelight Inn and Fung Ming Resturants.
Tina Sue was born August 15, 1964 in Sterling the daughter of Theodore and Sandra Adams Hambley.
She was a member of the Sterling Moose Lodge.
Survivors include one daughter Kasey Fischbach at home; two sons Chase Williamson of Rock Falls and Seth Buckert at home; her mother Sandra Miller of Sterling; her father Theodore (Donna) Hambley of Dixon; four sisters Lesa (Randy) Miller, Arnette Ross both of Rock Falls, Connie Polhill and Toniette Hambley both of Sterling; two half bothers Matthew Geiseman of Lyle and Kip Bear of Monroe WI; one granddaughter; her paternal grandmother Stana Hambley of Davis and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Mamie Letcher and Wilbur Adams; paternal grandfather Lew Hambley.
Funeral services will be 2 PMSunday November 28, 2004 at the Schilling Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name.

JO ANN SWANSON
STERLING — Jo Ann Swanson, 66, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at her home. Jo Ann was administrative assistant for Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce for 26 years.
Jo Ann was born August 8, 1938 in Sublette, the daughter of Floyd and Eva (Meuer) Peach. She married Ned Swanson April 7, 1957 at the First Christian Church in Walnut. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1999.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Sterling, the Sterling Chapter of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters, Jill Swanson of Sterling, Jo Ellen (Doug) Vandersee of Sterling, Andra (Jeff) Adams of Kankakee, Alisa (Tod) Altenburg of Bloomington; one sister, Marge Egan of Deer Grove; one brother, Robert Peach of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister-in-law, Patsy Swanson of New Bedford; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 20, 2004 at the First Christian Church of Sterling, with the Reverend David Yonker officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM, Friday, at the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established.

BEVERLY “BEA” M. SMITH
STERLING - Beverly “Bea” Smith, 82, died Friday November 5, 2004 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.Beverly was born September 21, 1922 in Sterling, the daughter of William and Pearl (Harting) Sitter. She married Charles J. Smith on May 15, 1942 in Sterling, he preceded her in death on July 15, 1993. Most of Beverly’s working years were spent as secretary of First Christian Church, and recently retiring from the position of financial secretary after 20 years. She was a life long member of the First Christian Church and served in numerous capacities for the church over the years. She was also a member of the Questors Club.Survivors include a daughter Mindy Smith of Sterling; a son Ricky C. (Diane) Smith of Dixon; a sister Mariann (Barney) Frerichs of Sterling; and one grandchild, and three great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two granddaughters Kimberly and Kerri Smith, and one sister Darlene Rhyne. Funeral Services will be 10AM Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Sterling, with the Reverend David Yonker officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Schilling Funeral Home.
A Memorial has been established to the First Christian Church.

Larry N. Gaumer
Odessa, MO - Larry N. Gaumer, 68, died Saturday, April 2, 2005 at the home of his daughter.
Larry was born July 21, 1936 in Sterling, the Son of Hubert O. and Wanda (Mills) Gaumer. On August 12, 1967, he married Dottie Lou Merchant who preceded him in death July 25, 2003. He will be sadly missed by his family.
Mr. Gaumer was a lifelong resident of Sterling, from 1936 until 2003, when he moved to Odessa, Missouri to live with his daughter and her family. He was employed by ITT Continental Baking for 17 years. He and his wife also owned Dement Town Pub in Dixon for 15 years.
Mr. Gaumer was a 1954 graduate of Sterling High School, a Navy veteran, and lifetime member of VFW Post 5418 in Rock Falls, as well as, the American Legion Post 296 in Sterling.
Surviving are six children, Jeffrey O. Gaumer, Lee’s Summit, MO, Jodi J. (Gaumer) Cammack of Odessa, MO, Joe D. Gaumer of Independence, MO, Mike Vancil of Rock Falls, Richard Vancil of Sterling, Jane (Vancil) Hoberg of Prophetstown; one brother, Steve Gaumer of Sterling; 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday, April 8, 2005 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM at the Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. Funeral services will immediately follow visitation. Graveside service and burial at Oak Knoll Cemetery will follow funeral services.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to Care Alternatives Hospice, 1420 NW Vivion Road #105, Kansas City, MO 64118.

Victoria VARGAS Montanez
Rock Falls - VictoriaMontanez, 70, died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at St. Anthony Medical Center. She worked for Tri-County Opportunities Council for 21 years until retiring.
Victoria was born October 27, 1934 in Sterling, the daughter of Gonzalo and Francisca (Elias) Vargas. She married Daniel Montanez. He preceded her in death June 12, 1989. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Sterling, sang in the choir, was part of Charismatic and Pray With The Heart.
Survivors are three daughters, Carmen Montanez of Rockford, IL, Janet (Silver) Silguero of Rock Falls, Dolores (Mike) Montanez of Sterling; four sons, Daniel Montanez of Rock Falls, Hector Montanez of Sterling, Peter (Rita) Montanez of North Hollywood, CA, Gabriel (Davia) Montanez of Warminster, PA; two sisters, Frances Hernandez of Sterling, Eleanor Ramirez of Ft. Worth, TX; fourteen grandchildren, Francesca, Danita, Elizabeth, Israel, Serena, Victoria Margaret, Peter, Heidi, Meghan, Shayne, Mercedes, Gabriel, Alex, Gracie.; Nine great grandchildren, LeVar, Myles, Rosie, Rhea, Xavier, Dorian, Darion, Angela, Kierra; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 8, 2005 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Jesus Dominguez of St. Mary Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM, Thursday with reciting of the Rosary at 7:30 PM at the Schilling Funeral Home.

Pastor Eldor Herbert Mueller
Sterling - Eldor Herbert Mueller, 90, died Thursday, March 31, 2005 at CGH Medical Center. He was Pastor of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1940 to 1979. As a missionary, he was instrumental in starting several other area Lutheran Churches.
Pastor Mueller was born July 12, 1914 in Perry, OK, the son of Martin H. and Emily Oetting Mueller. He married Marguerite Hoffman on January 4, 1942 in Sterling.
Survivors are his wife; a son, David (Lynn) Mueller of Parachute, CO; a daughter, Marcia (Curtis) Borror of Burlington, WV; a brother, Arlo (Felice) Mueller of Ridgecrest, CA; a sister, Maxine Webb of Grand Rapids, MI, and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Hilbert Mueller.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 4, 2005 at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be 1-4, Sunday, April 3 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

Dorothy M. Kyger
Dorothy M. Kyger, 100, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at Sterling Pavilion.
Dorothy was born November 14, 1904 in Rock Falls, the Daughter of John W. and Fannie H. (Diamond) Brown. She married John Kyger on September 5, 1925 in Rock Falls.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sylvia Law, Evelyn McIlany and one brother, Bert E. Brown.
Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Monday, April 4, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Thomson of Rock Falls United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Coloma Twp. Cemetery, Rock Falls. Visitation will be 1-1:30, Monday, April 4th at the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to the Rock Falls United Methodist Church.

Mildred F. Wilkinson
Sterling - Mildred F. Wilkinson, 97, died Monday, March 28, 2005 at Sterling Pavilion.
Mildred was born June 11, 1907 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of George and Melainie (Henry) Henne. She married Loyal M. Wilkinson on December 26, 1929 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1981.
Survivors are a son, John D. (Carol) Wilkinson of San Jose, CA; a daughter, Carol (Keith) Bos of Sterling; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Boorstein.
Graveside services will be held at 10 AM, Monday, April 11, 2005 at Stevens Cemetery, Earlville with Reverend Glenn Mensing Interim Pastor of First Congregational Church of Sterling officiating. Burial will be at the Stevens Cemetery, Earlville.
A memorial has been established to the First Congregational Church of Sterling.

Edna M. Stern
Edna M. Stern, 87, of Sterling died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at her home.
Edna was born December 26, 1917 in Morrison, the daughter of Bernhard and Mattie (Janssen) Behrens. She married Oscar R. Stern on May 15, 1937. He preceded her in death on October 7, 2002. They farmed together for many years. She was a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sterling where she was active in Ladies Aid and Bible Study. She was also a member of the Merry Makers Home Extension Unit, and enjoyed gardening and needlework.
Survivors include a son, Lyle (Deborah) Stern of Sterling; a daughter, Joyce (Robert) Hollaway of Sterling; a daughter-in-law, Carole Stern of Annawan; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Crone of Mesa, AZ; a sister-in-law, Esther Behrens of Morrison and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; a daughter, Elaine, two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 1, 2005 at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Daniel Behmlander officiating. Burial will be at the Our Savior Lutheran Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be 5-8, Thursday, March 31 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, IL.
A memorial has been established to the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Evelyn Shilling
STERLING - Evelyn Shilling, 90, of Sterling, died Saturday March 26, 2005, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Prophetstown.
Evelyn was born April 29, 1914 in Sterling, the daughter of James and Rilla (Cramer) Forder. She married Denver Shilling October 9, 1937 in Sterling. He died October 17, 1987.
Survivors include two sisters Nell Turner of Sebastian, FL, and Mary Turner of Sterling; and many Nieces and Nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters, one sister in-law, and two nephews.
Services will be 1:30 Tuesday March 29, 2005 at Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30, on Tuesday March 29 at Schilling Funeral Home.
A Memorial has been established.
