Lyman Dewayne Harvey
L. Dewayne Harvey, age 78 of Peru, lllinois died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday May 25, 2010 in St. Margaret Medical Center in Spring Valley, Illinois. He was born October 4, 1931 near Stronghurst, the son of Clarence A. and Georgia Leinbach Harvey. On November 9, 1951, he married
Ruth Ann Anderson in Stronghurst. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2003.
Mr. Harvey was a livestock buyer for Interstate Producers Livestock Association in Peoria for forty eight years, retiring in 1995. He had lived in Peoria for many years before moving to Peru in 2004. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, and was a member of the Farm Bureau.
Survivors include one daughter - Chris (Rich) Wasik of Peru, IL., one son - Craig (Gail) Harvey of Mitchellville, Iowa, four grandchildren - Katlyn Harvey, Jessica Rolwes, Brett and Barry Wasik, and one sister - Roxana Harvey of Hico, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one sister - Linda Harvey.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Banks & Beals with Rev. Jeff Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in the Stronghurst cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Stronghurst Ambulance Service.
Virgil H. "Bud" Henry
Mr. Virgil H. “Bud” Henry, 80, of Blandinsville, Illinois passed away Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 4:40 A.M. at the Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. He was born September 2, 1930 in Blandinsville, Illinois, the son of Andrew Harold and Carrie Hazel Gossage Henry. On June 9, 1951 he married
E. Carol Sanders in Macomb, Illinois.
Mr. Henry served in the US Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated the Blandinsville Locker Service for many years and was custodian at the Northwestern Grade School in Good Hope, Illinois. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Blandinsville and the Blandinsville American Legion Post and Lions Club. He served on the board of the Blandinsville Twin Oaks Country Club and the Blandin House Museum. He loved to golf, hunt and fish.
He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Lynn Kern of Blandinsville and Cheryl (Tim) Flint of Troy, Illinois, 5 grandchildren, Joshua (Christy) Kern, Jeremy Kern, Zachary Kern, Justin Flint, and Ashley Flint and 2 great-grandchildren, Brayden and Mikayla Kern.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister and 1 brother.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 22, 2010 at the Blandinsville United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Riley officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Glade City cemetery, Blandinsville. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday. A memorial fund has been established for the Blandin House Museum or the Blandinsville United Methodist Church.
Frances Elizabeth "Polly" Hetrick
Frances E. “Polly” Hetrick, age 87 of the Shokokon community, near Carman, Illinois died at 7:59 a.m. Thursday October 21, 2010 in the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. She was born June 1, 1923 in Carman, the daughter of Robert and Matilda Siens Stimpson. On June 6, 1950, she married
Earman A. Hetrick in Burlington. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1999.
Polly was a lifelong resident of Shokokon. She was a member of the Lomax-Carman Senior Citizens. She was a member and former custodian of the Carman United Methodist Church. She loved gardening, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include three sons - Kendall (Jackie) Hetrick of Lomax, IL., William Hetrick of Carman, IL., Larry (Betty) Hetrick of Texas, one daughter - Emma Gean Snyder of Burlington, IA., ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter - Rosemary Christiansen, two sisters, three brothers, three great grandsons and one great great grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday October 25th in the Carman United Methodist Church with Rev. Anita Munden officiating. Burial will be in the Carman cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Donald Hinman
Mr. Donald Hinman, 81, of Niota, Illinois passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 2:03 pm at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.
He was born on March 12, 1929 in Fort Madison, the son of Orville and Evelyn Privia Hinman. On September 4, 1948 he married
E. Joan Zern in Dallas City, Illinois.
Mr. Hinman was a 1948 graduate of the Dallas City High School. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 13 years and then worked for Chevron Chemical Co. in Fort Madison for 23 years. He retired as a shift supervisor in 1985.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and motorcycling. He was a member of the ILIAMO Camping Club of Keokuk, Iowa and the Goldwing Road Riders Club of Burlington.
He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Kathryn Duncan of Niota and Deborah Edmiston of Davenport, Iowa, 1 son, Mathew Donald Hinman of Loose Creek, Missouri, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Mary Alice Bader.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Harris cemetery near Dallas City. There will be no visitation. A memorial has been established for the Fort Madison Community Hospital. Banks & Beals Funeral Home, Dallas City is in charge of arrangements.
Robert O. Jackson
Mr. Robert O. Jackson, 88, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11:11 P.M. at the McDonough District Hospital, Macomb, Illinois.
He was born February 16, 1922 in St. Mary, Illinois, the son of Orville and Ethel Pittenger Jackson. On May 26, 1947 he married
June Bouseman in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2006.
Mr. Jackson was raised in the St. Mary, Illinois community and attended the Oak Grove School. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He lived in Fountain Green Illinois for many years, moving to LaHarpe in 1986. He retired from WIU in 1987, where he worked as a stationary fireman in the heating plant. Bob was a member of the LaHarpe American Legion and a former member of both the Fountain Green and LaHarpe fire departments and served as the secretary of the fire district board of trustees.
Surviving are two sons, John (Sharon) Jackson of Great Bend, Kansas and Roger (Marilyn) Jackson of LaHarpe, 4 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, 1 son, David Jackson, 1 daughter, Cathy Caraway, 1 brother and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 22, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the LaHarpe cemetery. The family will meet with friends, Sunday, from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Ambulance Service, Fountain Green Fire Department or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Carl Morris Johnson
C. Morris Johnson, age 69 of rural Stronghurst, Illinois died at 11:48 p.m. Wednesday January 20, 2010 in the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born May 20, 1940 in King City, Missouri, the son of Carl and Kathryn Jones Johnson. On June 10, 1967, he married
Carol E. Duncan in Stronghurst.
Morris was a graduate of King City High School and received his bachelor’s degree in agricultural science from the University of Missouri in Columbia. He farmed all of his adult life near Stronghurst. He was a member and former trustee of the Stronghurst Presbyterian Church. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, three daughters - Kimberly Johnson of Streator, IL., Gretchan (Terry) Riser of Forsyth, IL., Melissa Johnson of Rockford, IL., and two grandchildren - Alexis and Aiden Riser. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother - Lorene Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday January 25, 2010 in the Stronghurst Presbyterian Church with Pam Moore officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove cemetery near Media, IL. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. A memorial fund has been established for the Stronghurst Presbyterian Church.
Eva Marie Johnson
Eva Marie Johnson age 99, of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday December 15, 2010 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. She was born November 14, 1911 in Biggsville, Illinois, the daughter of Herman and Alice Burrus Dixon. On May 9, 1932, she married
Kenneth F. Johnson in Aledo, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1992.
Eva was a homemaker. She was a faithful member of the Stronghurst Christian Church and was proud to have served as president of the Loyal Women’s Group of the Church for many years.
Survivors include two daughters - Lorraine Peterson and Madge Wheatley, both of Stronghurst, eleven grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, one sister, and one step great great granddaughter in infancy.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. at the Stronghurst Christian Church. The funeral Mrs. Johnson will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Stronghurst Christian Church with Pastor Steve Minkler officiaitng. Burial will be in the Stronghurst cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Stronghurst Christian Church and Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab. Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Stronghurst is in charge of arrangements.
Everett James Johnson
Everett James Johnson, age 88 of Carman, Illinois died at 7:01 a.m. Friday January 15, 2010 in the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born April 2, 1921 in Carman, the son of James H. And Catherine E. Finch Johnson. On April 8, 1942, he married
Louise I. Windom in Oquawka, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2000.
Mr. Johnson was a 1939 graduate of Stronghurst High School. He farmed all of his life in the Carman area. He had served on the Carman School Board and later on the Stronghurst School Board for several years. He was a Carman Township Trustee and had served on the board of the Carman cemetery Association. He was a member of the Henderson County Farm Bureau, Henderson County Olde Tymers, and the Carman United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters - Sharen (Darrell) Burrell, and Lisa Schaley, two sons - Loren (Bonnie) Johnson and Shelden (Gena) Johnson, all of Carman, a special friend- Ruby Steck of Carman, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one sister - Ilene (Robert) Thornburg of Raleigh, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday January 18, 2010 in the Carman United Methodist Church with Rev. Anita Munden officiating. Burial will be in the Carman cemetery. Noah Gabriel Johnson
Noah Gabriel Johnson, son of William and Lisa Johnson of rural Lomax, Illinois was stillborn Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 4:59 P.M. at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
Survivors include his parents, two sisters, Lynette Rose Johnson and Ava Mae Johnson, his grandparents, Lawrence and Rose Johnson of Terre Haute, Illinois and Leland and Helen Blose of Niles, Ohio and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Private graveside services will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Terre Haute, Illinois cemetery with Father Thomas Szydlik officiating. Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe is assisting with arrangements.
Delbert Lewis Kepler
Mr. Delbert Lewis Kepler, age 88, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away Friday, March 5, 2010 at 12:03 A.M at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center, LaHarpe, Illinois.
He was born November 23, 1921 in Macomb, Illinois the son of Delbert Lewis and Thelma Iola Kepler.
Mr. Kepler lived in Macomb most of his life, moving to LaHarpe in 2005. At the age of 12 he became disabled after contracting encephalitis. He enjoyed reading and traveling and was a Ham Radio Operator. He was always interested in current events and was very knowledgeable about world history. He was a faithful member of the United Church of God, Canton, Illinois for over 50 years.
He is survived by cousins and his church family.
Following cremation a memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Mr. Ken Graham officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Oakwood cemetery in Macomb. There will be a time for visiting and sharing memories, Wednesday, from 6:30 until time of services. A memorial fund has been established for the United Church of God or LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.
Gale M. Kern
Mr. Gale M. Kern, 86, of rural LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 4:07 P.M. at the Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb, Illinois.
He was born November 30, 1923 in LaHarpe, the son of Adam Willard and Olive Negley Kern. On December 31, 1958 he married
Dorothy Morrow in LaHarpe. She preceded him in death on September 29, 1996. He then married
Helen Carol Culp on February 20, 2003 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Mr. Kern farmed and raised Polled Herefords near LaHarpe. He was a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church and the LaHarpe Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing pool, cards, golf and watching old “Western” movies. During his lifetime he inherited two families in addition to having his own.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, five children, Timothy (Mary) Morrow of Aurora, Illinois, Paula (Chuck) Weaver of Eldridge, Iowa, Jill (Jeff Kurtz) Fugate of Burlington, Iowa, Jennifer (John) Jenkins of Irvine, California and Carolyn Kern of Saipan, three step-children, Nanette (Carl) Lawrence of LaHarpe, Benita (Phillip) Pledger of Clanton, Alabama and Harry Woodrow (Stephanie) Culp of Knoxville, Tennessee, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his twin brother, Glen Kern of Clarksville, Arkansas and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, 1 son Roger Lowell Kern, a grandson, William Christopher Jenkins, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 7, 2010 at the LaHarpe Christian Church with Darren Beachy officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpe cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Christian Church.
Mary A. Klinedinst
Mary A. Klinedinst, 71, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 at 4:43 P.M. at the Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb, Illinois.
She was born January 25, 1939 in Fountain Green, Illinois, the daughter of Newt and Leota Londrie McClanahan. On June 2, 1954 she married
Max Klinedinst in Lewistown, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1996.
Earlier in life, Mary owned and operated Mary’s Café in Colchester and later worked at many restaurants in the area including the Main Café in Blandinsville, the Tastee Freeze in LaHarpe and Jack and Jill’s Deli. She also worked as Activity Assistant at the LaHarpe-Davier Heath Care Center. She attended the Webster, Illinois Community Church and wrote the church news for the Quill.
She is survived by one daughter, Cindy Klinedinst of LaHarpe. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 brothers, Dick and James McClanahan and 1 sister, Dorothy Stine.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the LaHarpe cemetery with Robert Tillman officiating. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established for the PAWS or the Webster Community Church. Banks & Beals Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Thomas "Clark" Logan, Sr.
Thomas “Clark” Logan, Sr., 77, of Independence, died Tuesday June 8, 2010 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel in Independence, KS. Reverend Mike Graham, Chaplain of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice will officiate. Cremation followed those services and we are here today to inter his ashes.
Clark born February 20, 1933 in Henderson County, just south of Lomax, Illinois to Jasper Wyatt Logan and Alice M.(Gamble)Logan. He attended Wever, Iowa and Pleasant Grove country school and Dallas City High School, Dallas City, Illinois schools, graduating in 1952.
In Aug, 1952 married
Zelma Louth in Golden, Illinois. They had two children, Phillip & Shirley Jo Logan. They later divorced.
In the early 1960’s, Clark met and married
his second wife, Shirley Mae Morrow in Independence Kansas, they had two children, Thomas Clark Jr. & Kelly Jo Logan. With children from previous marriages, there were a total number of nine children. They later divorced.
He served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Upon honorable discharge on December 31, 1954, he received the Army Occupation Medal (Germany) and the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service, he returned to Dallas City, Illinois and worked as a weigh master for the Dallas City grain elevator. In the late 50’’s, Clark started his trucking career with Don Rohn of the Dallas City Stockyards. His long-distance truck driving career started with Ruan Trucking and later with Time D.C. Trucking of Denver, Colorado.
Eventually he decided to go out on his own and started his own trucking firm, C & S Trucking of Moore, Oklahoma. He retired from long-distance trucking in 1993. It didn’t take him long to decide he wasn’t quite ready to give up trucking so he purchased a dump truck and hauled for various local companies until his second retirement in 2004.
Clark was a member of the Dallas City Christian Church and a Lifetime Member of the VFW in Independence, Kansas.
He is survived by two sons; Phillip Logan of Dallas City, Illinois, and Thomas Clark Logan, Jr., of Midwest City, Oklahoma, two daughters; Shirley Jo Logan of Florissant, Co and Kelly Brocaw of Independence, Kansas. Stepchildren are Michael Morrow, Victoria Logan, Paula Logan, Melody Holladay of California; and Carla Roach of Independence, Kansas. He is also survived by two sisters; Mary Alice (James) Sampson of Ottumwa, Iowa and Carol (Richard) Riley of Ossian, Indiana, and brother-in-law John Brokaw of Stronghurst, Illinois. Clark was blessed with 22 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marjorie Brokaw and brother J. Willard Logan.
Graveside services, with military rites, are 10:30 AM Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Crane cemetery, Lomax, Illinois. His sister, Mary Alice Sampson, will officiate. A memorial fund has been established for the Henderson County Hospice. Following the service, all family and friends are invited to gather at the Lomax Christian Church.
