William F. Stevenson

William Frank Stevenson, age 90, of Gladstone, Illinois passed away at 10:45 p.m. Sunday December 12, 2010. He was on Hospice Care at the Klein Center in Burlington, Iowa. He was born December 30, 1919 in Gladstone, IL., the son of Samuel and Pearle Johnson Stevenson. On August 1, 1933, he married Betty Jean Adams in Kahoka, MO.

Bill graduated from Gladstone High School in 1933. He farmed near Carman and following a flood in 1965, he and his wife moved to a new home near Gladstone. After the death of his father, Sam Stevenson, Bill was appointed to serve on the Drainage District by the Henderson County Board. He enjoyed yard work, his beautiful flowers, and his cat, “Fluff”. He also enjoyed traveling to the Rocky Mountains, Glacier National Park, and along the California coast. Bill was baptized in the Old Bedford Church (Disciples Of Christ).

Survivors include his wife, one daughter - Susan Amelia Guanci, and her husband John, of Woodstock, IL., one grandson - John Joseph William Guanci III, two great granddaughters- Amelia Ann and Kaitlyn, one sister - Phyllis Saben, and her husband Lee, of Biggsville, IL., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

The family will receive friends on Friday December 12, 2010 from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral for Mr. Stevenson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday December 18, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Burial will follow in the Carman cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Henderson County Health Department.

Nedra L. Stewart

Nedra Lucille Thrush Stewart, age 89 of Raritan, Illinois died at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday August 10, 2010 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. She was born June 30, 1921 in Raritan, the only child of Lyle and Reva Wilson Thrush. On September 15, 1940, she married Wayne Stewart in Raritan. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2002.

Nedra was valedictorian of the Media High School class of 1939. She worked for Thompson’s Insurance in Raritan and later was associated with the United States Postal Service for 32 years, serving as Postmaster of Raritan for 5 years. In 1933, she joined the Raritan Baptist Church, where she held various offices throughout her life. She was also a member of the Co-Missus Circle of the church. Nedra had been active in community affairs, and was a former member of the Raritan Firemen’s Auxiliary and the Henderson County Homemakers Extension. She was fond of poetry, history, her home, church, and the Raritan community.

Survivors include one son - Philip (Jean Maloney-Stewart) Stewart of Reading, Massachusetts, one grandson- Matthew Stewart, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service for Nedra will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Raritan Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Ashton officiating. Burial will be in the Raritan cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Raritan Baptist Church.

Darlene L. Stimpson

Darlene L. Stimpson, age 70 of Burlington, Iowa died at 6:55 a.m. Sunday December 12, 2010 in the Danville Care Center in Danville, Iowa. She was born November 5, 1940 in Olds, Iowa, the daughter of Gilbert and Cecil Sammons Milks. She was married to Delbert Moeller. They later divorced. On June 27, 2008, she married Wayne Stimpson in Burlington.

Darlene was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She had worked as a sales clerk for several area businesses. She had also been employed as a salesperson for Ambassador Gold Jewelry Company for several years, and later worked for the Iowa State Gaming and Licensing Commission. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Women Of The Moose lodges in Burlington.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne, her mother of Mount Pleasant, IA., three sons - Shaun (Terry) Moeller and Dan Moeller, both of Burlington, Joe Moeller of Virginia, two step daughters - Josephine Hampton and Patricia Barnowski, both of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, four brothers- Ron (Lynn) Milks of Panora, IA., Larry ( Kay) Milks and Roger (Patty) Milks, both Mount Pleasant, IA., Kent (Darla) Milks of Quincy, IL., and one sister - Linda Knoop of Mount Pleasant, IA. She was preceded in death by her father.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Stimpson will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Banks & Beals with Rev. Kendall Hetrick officiaitng. Burial will be in the Carman cemetery, Carman, IL. A memorial fund has been established for The United Way.

Donald L. Sutton Sr.

Mr. Donald L.Sutton Sr., 76, of Lomax, Illinois passed away at 2:39 AM Monday, November 1, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa.

He was born on August 21, 1934 in Lomax, the son of Harry A. and Elva Woods Sutton. On February 22, 1969 he married Elizabeth R. Estrada in Fort Madison, Iowa.

Mr. Sutton was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the US Navy from 1951 - 1955. He was a Pentecostal Minster, and served as a missionary in Mexico. He also served as an evangelist in the United States and was pastor at several churches. He recently built the Divine Faith Ministries Church in Lomax and was serving as it’s pastor.

He is survived by his wife, 3 sons, Donald L. Sutton, Jr. of Marshalltown, Iowa, Bill Sutton of O’Fallon, Missouri and Darrell Higbee of Peoria, Arizona, 3 daughters, Kendra Higbee of Stronghurst, Illinois, Patty Corcron of Benton, Iowa and Stephanie Higbee of Peoria, Arizona, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and 1 brother, Roger Sutton of St. Joseph, Missouri, 3 sisters, Phyllis Judd of South Carolina, Leota Rusher of Lomax and Janice Myers of Dallas City, Illinois

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Tracy Higbee and 3 brothers, Arthur, Dale and Clarence Sutton.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Divine Faith Ministries in Lomax with Pastor John McMurl Sr. and Kenneth Rusher officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Crane cemetery, Lomax, Illinois. Friends may call after 4:00 PM Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday.

Lyle G. Terry

Mr. Lyle G. Terry, 90, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 4:20 A.M. at the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage, Illinois.

He was born April 30, 1919 in Dallas City, the son of Walter and Anita Hopper Terry. On April 13, 1940 he married Maxine Paulus in Lancaster, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2009.

He was a 1936 graduate of the Dallas City High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army from 1941 - 1945. He was stationed in North Africa and later, China, Burma and India. In 1949 he became a Rural Mail Carrier and continued in that position until retiring in 1976.

Mr. Terry was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He played lots of baseball on county teams and in a league at Nauvoo, Illinois. He was instrumental in establishing the Dallas City Veterans Memorial which was dedicated June 30, 2002. He was a member of the Dallas City American Legion and the Colusa United Methodist Church.

He is survived by one sister, Dorothy Thompson of Springfield, Illinois, 2 sisters-in-law, Eileen Lehr of Carthage and Lucille Terry of Macomb, Illinois, 11 nieces and nephews, 19 great nieces and nephews and 24 great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son, Donald Eugene, 2 brothers, Ralph and Wilbur Terry, one sister, Erma Terry, 1 nephew, Keith Lehr Sr. and 1 niece, Diane Terry.

Services will held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Harris cemetery near Dallas City. There will be no formal visitation but friends are welcome to stop at the funeral home, Friday, between 3:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Dallas City Veterans Memorial or the Colusa United Methodist Church.

Howard F. Thie

Mr. Howard F. Thie, 81, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 1:14 P.M. at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Illinois.

He was born on August 31, 1929 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Abner and Grace Hueholt Thie. On January 10, 1952 he married Marilyn Rinker in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Mr. Thie served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Guam. He worked at Champion Co. for 9 years in Quality Control and then for 37 years at NTN Bower in Macomb as a Manufacturing Engineer. He retired in 2003. He was a member of the LaHarpe Union Church and served on the committee that oversaw the addition to the church building.

He was raised on the family farm in Franklin Twp., Des Moines County. As a young man he was a member of the 4H and won many blue ribbons for his prize cattle. He raised Holsteins and operated a dairy farm while living in Iowa. He moved to Illinois in 1966. He was a supporter of the Heifer Foundation.

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Dr. Linda Thie of Punta Gorda, Florida and Angela (Jim) Painter of Goodfield, Illinois, 1 son Frederick Thie of LaHarpe, 3 grandchildren, Jameson Painter, Joe Painter and Lauren Painter and 2 brothers, Donald Thie of rural Burlington and Robert Thie of rural Sperry, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Mr. Thie’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Union Church in LaHarpe with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. A flag presentation ceremony will be performed by the LaHarpe American Legion. Burial will be at a later date at St. Johns cemetery near Burlington. A memorial has been established for the LaHarpe Union Church. There will be no visitation. Banks & Beals Funeral home in LaHarpe is assisting with the arrangements.

Dane C. Wiele

Mr. Dane C. Wiele, 58, of Lomax, Illinois passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 at 3:45 P.M. at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

He was born on December 16, 1951 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Roger C. and Shirley Leaverton Wiele.

Mr. Wiele was born and raised in Burlington. His family moved to New York where he lived for a few years, graduating from the Alfred Almond Central High School in Almond, New York in 1970. He then served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his military service he returned to the Burlington area and in 1975 began working for Hendricks Sales and Service, now Dadants, in Dallas City, Illinois where he was still currently employed. He also owned and operated DCW Mowing Service.

He was a member of the American Legion, was an avid gardener, St. Louis Cardinals fan, Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed attending the Burlington Bees games.

He is survived by 2 step-sons, Lee Seiser and Jerry Akers both of Carthage, Illinois, 2 step-daughters, Deanna Sullivan of Keokuk, Iowa and Robin Peterson of Oquawka, Illinois, 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, David Wiele of Greenwood, Missouri, 2 sisters, Debra Greene and Diane Vollmer both of Burlington, 1 nephew, Daniel Blackwell and 1 niece, Danielle Greene.

He was preceded in death by his friend and companion Charlotte Peterson, 1 brother, Dan Wiele and his parents.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Algie Peterson officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the National cemetery in Keokuk. Friends may call after 4:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established for Camp Eastman or the Dallas City Veterans Memorial.

Carl William Weaver

Carl William Weaver, age 82 of Gulfport, Illinois, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday January 16, 2010 at his home. He was born February 10, 1927 in Olney, Illinois, the son of Carl B. and Ruby R. Hunley Weaver.

Mr. Weaver served in the United States Navy from 1944 until 1967. Following his military career, he worked at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, Iowa for a short time, and later worked in road construction. He was a member of the former Carman Masonic Lodge, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Flora, Illinois.

Survivors include one brother - David (Linda) Weaver of Gladstone, IL., one nephew- David Weaver II, and one great nephew- David Weaver III, both of Gladstone. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from noon until 1:45 p.m. Thursday January 21, 2010 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, followed by a graveside service with military rites at 2:00 p.m. in the Carman cemetery, Carman, Illinois. Rev. Kendall Hetrick will officiate.

B. Louise White

B. Louise White, age 85 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday June 10, 2010 in Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. She was born August 28, 1924 near Smithshire, Illinois, the daughter of Luther Jacob and Anna Elizabeth Hennenfent Haines. On June 12, 1948, she married Lyman Rucker White in Kirkwood, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2003.

At the age of five, Louise moved with her family to a farm near Carman, Illinois. She attended the Ellison Valley Grade School through fifth grade, and later Stronghurst Schools throughout junior high and high school. Prior to her marriage, she had worked in the bookkeeping department of Iowa Southern Utilities for three years, and at Hamilton-Miller Grocery Store in Stronghurst for one year. She was a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter- Debra (Doug) Hale of Stronghurst, one son - Randy White of Iowa City, IA., two grandchildren - Elizabeth (Nick Tapscott) Swan and James Hale, one great granddaughter - Anna Louise Tapscott, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother in infancy - Therman Haines.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday June 14, 2010 at Banks & Beals with Rev. Anita Munden officiating. Burial will follow in the Stronghurst cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst.

Vera Ruth White

Vera Ruth White, age 91 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 10:55 a.m. Thursday September 23, 2010 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. She was born April 23 1919 near Stronghurst, the daughter of Charles J. and Lela M. Wood Jacobs. On August 7, 1942, she married J.E. “Tag” White in Ringold, Georgia. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1986.

Vera was a lifelong resident of the Stronghurst community. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Jacobs Hardware in Stronghurst for many years. She also was a home health care provider and babysitter for several families in Stronghurst for several years. She was the bookkeeper for the Roth’s Old Auction Barn, and made pies for the Tuesday night auctions. For many years, she was the author of Vera’s Ramblings, a weekly article appearing in the Henderson County Quill newspaper. She was an Activity Aide at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab, and was a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son- Charles White of East Peoria, IL., four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son - Robert James White and one grandson- James Earl White.

The funeral for Mrs White will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday September 27, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Rev. Anita Munden officiating. Burial will be in the Olena cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established for the Stronghurst United Church and Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab.

Jean E. Willdrick

Mrs. Jean E. Scanlan Willdrick, 85, of Macomb, Illinois passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 at 6:00 P.M. at the Countryview Care Center in Macomb.

She was born in LaHarpe, Illinois on May 29, 1925, the daughter of Jesse M. and Charlotte E. Nelson Elston. She first married Lowell Scanlan. They later divorced. She later married Robert Willdrick. He preceded her in death in 1967.

Jean was raised in the Terre Haute, Illinois community and had also lived in Dallas City and Lomax before moving to Macomb over 40 years ago. She worked in housekeeping at WIU for many years and also cleaned at Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb. She was a member of the Macomb VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed her dog, Lucky.

Surviving are one son, Michael Scanlan of Colchester, Illinois, 2 granddaughters, Tammy (Todd Knowles) Scanlan of Macomb and Teresa (Richard) Friedman of Naperville, Illinois, and 3 great-grandchildren, Ceair Knowles of Macomb and Sophie and Emma Friedman of Naperville.

She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Susie Shoemate, Vera Painter and Miriam Hubbs and 2 brothers, Virgil Elston and Vernon “Bill” Elston.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the LaHarpe cemetery with Albert Long officiating. There will be no visitation. Banks & Beals Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. A memorial fund has been established for her granddaughter, Ceair’s, education.

LeRoy B. Willdrick

Mr. LeRoy B. Willdrick, 70, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 3:45 P.M. at his home.

He was born June 3, 1939 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Samuel and Grace Bartlow Willdrick. On December 27, 1963 he married Marilyn Guy in Lomax, Illinois.

Mr. Willdrick graduated from Dallas City High School in 1957 and served in the US Air Force from 1957 until 1962. He worked at J.I. Case Company in Burlington, Iowa for 34 years, retiring in 1996. Earlier in life he had his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying.

Surviving are his wife, one son, Chance (Jenifer) Willdrick of Fort Madison, Iowa, one daughter, Cheray LaRoue of Fremont, Michigan, five grandchildren, one great-grandson, one sister, Carol McVey of Lomax and one brother, Larry (Beverly) Willdrick of Mount Olive, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Myrna Black-Willdrick.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Jerry Knipe officiating. Burial will be in the Harris cemetery near Dallas City. There will be no formal family visitation, but friends are welcome to stop at the funeral home anytime between 3:00 and 8:00 P.M. Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established for his grandchildren’s education or Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.

Harold D. Wilson

Mr. Harold D. Wilson, 74, of Good Hope, Illinois passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 in Macomb, Illinois.

He was born August 12, 1935 in Industry, Illinois, the son of Marshall and Helen Brown Wilson. On November 17, 1987 he married Charlene Breiner DeBold in Kahoka, Missouri.

Mr. Wilson was a graduate of the Industry High School and served in the US Army 1958 - 1961. He worked at NTN Bower in Macomb for 30 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Rushville American Legion Post 4 and the Forty and Eight Club.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Tammy (Russell) Hodges of Venice, Florida and Jill (Kevin) Bleichner of Peoria, Illinois, five step-children, David DeBold of Macomb, Doran (Diane) DeBold and Darren DeBold all of Blandinsville, Illinois, Robin (Bill) Huffman of Auburn, Alabama and Lisa (Noel) Pope of Farmville, North Carolina, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one brother, Eugene Wilson of Pool, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Ann Wilson, two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Bill Huffman officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the LaHarpe cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. A memorial fund has been established for the Rushville American Legion Post 4.
