Rodney R. Burt
Mr. Rodney R. Burt, 47, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Monday, November 24, 2008 at his home.
He was born June 28, 1961 in LaHarpe, the son of Ronald and Donna Melvin Burt.
He was a 1979 graduate of LaHarpe High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1980 - 1992. He worked for ADM Grain in Burlington, Iowa as a truck driver. Prior to that he drove for Barr Nunn. He was a member of the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge #195 and the LaHarpe Union Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.
Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Rae Burt of Bellingham, Massachusetts, his father, Ronald Burt of LaHarpe, his mother, Donna Burt of LaHarpe, one sister, Rena (Gary) Quigle of LaHarpe and one brother, Roger Burt of Fallon, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Rhonda Quigle, his grandparents and one niece.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the LaHarpe cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home where Masonic Rites will be held at 6:00 P.M. followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 P.M. Friday. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge #195 or the LaHarpe Ambulance Service.
L. Martin Calvert
Mr. L. Martin Calvert, 90, of Macomb, Illinois, formerly of Blandinsville, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 9:00 P.M. at the McDonough District Hospital, Macomb.
He was born March 8, 1918 in Macomb, the son of Clyde L. and Bessie Martin Calvert. On March 5, 1939 he married
Pauline Ogren in Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 26, 2003.
Mr. Calvert was a 1934 graduate of the Western Academy. He was a lifelong farmer in the Blandinsville area. He served as a Director of the McDonough Telephone Coop and served on the County Board of Supervisors for 12 years. He was a board member of the Western Museum and the Blandin House Museum. He was a member of the Southeast Iowa Antique Car Club, the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge, Quincy Consistory and the Peoria Shrine. He was also a member of the Blandinsville United Methodist Church where he held several offices.
He is survived by four children, Lee (Marilyn) Calvert, of Sciota, IL, Nancy (Gary) Sherer of Macomb, Wayne(Peggy) Calvert of Blandinsville, and Rev. Beth Nelson of Astoria, IL, and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Calvert of Blandinsville, a sister Clarice McGary of Tempe, AZ, a sister-in-law, Hazel (John) Watson of Macomb, 13 grandchildren, Cathy (Jim)Pierce, of LaFarge, Wis., Steve (Rhonda) Calvert of Sciota, Jamie (Jackie) Sherer of Jacksonville, Fla., Paula (Troy) Smith of Macomb, Darb (Amber) Calvert of Williamsville, IL., Deik (Angie) Calvert of Chicago, Deilee (Chris) Minor-Calvert of Syracuse, N.Y., Drue (Jenny) Calvert of Macomb, DeNeisha Calvert of Cinncinnati, OH, Melissa Johns, of Chicago, Christopher Nelson of Bloomington, IN, Heather Calvert and Julie Calvert-Mitchell of Blandinsville, and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline, two sons Teddy Eugene Calvert and Karl Ray Calvert, a great-granddaughter, Sofia Calvert and two sisters, Maxine Bartlett and Alleyne Bechtold.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, September, 15, 2008 at the Blandinsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Riley officiating. Burial will be in the Glade City cemetery, Blandinsville. Masonic Rites will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, September 14th at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, IL where the family will meet with friends from 3:00 until 5:00 PM, Sunday. A memorial fund has been established for the Blandinsville United Methodist Church and the Blandin House Museum.
Wanda M. Cameron
Mrs. Wanda M. Cameron, 75, of Fountain Green, Illinois passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 3:59 P.M. at her home.
She was born May 8, 1932 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Franklin Henry and Narcia Gilmore Bundy. On February 13, 1964 she married
Fred Cameron In Blandinsville, Illinois.
He survives along with one son Edward Torrence of LaHarpe, two daughters, Joan Sherwood of LaHarpe and Candy Sue Carle of Carthage, Illinois, 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 7 brothers and 4 sisters.
Friends may call between 2:00 and 8:00 PM Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. There will be no services. A private burial will be held in the LaHarpe cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Illinois Wildlife Preservation Fund.
Roy Gene "Booker" Carnes
Roy Gene “Booker” Carnes, age 82 of the river community of Shokokon inCarman, Illinois died at 4:00 A.M. Sunday March 9, 2008 at Great River Hospice in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born September 30, 1925 in Kirkwood, Illinois, the son of Jim and Leona Litrell Carnes. On July 9, 1944, he married
Peggy Burrell in Kahoka, Missouri.
Roy began working at a very early age on a farm near Media, Illinois. He later worked for the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant, J.I. Case Company, and as a trucker and custom applicator for about twenty years before retiring in the mid 1980's.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Peggy, visiting variousstates and Mexico. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eagles Club.
Roy loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and enjoyed working with Clydesdale Horses, playing cards, and boating.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy of Carman, one daughter - Gloria of Burlington, Iowa, four grandchildren - Mike (Pam) Day Jr. of Media, IL., Mark (Tamara) Day of Carman, IL., Roy (Carla) Day of Blandinsville, IL., and Tammy of Burlington, IA., seven great grandchildren - Phillip Smith, Curtis Smith, Robert Day, Ashley Day, Lacey Day, Kaley Day, and “Ro” Day, two sisters - Betty Carmean of Stronghurst, Isabelle Johnson of Stronghurst, and one brother - Don Carnes of Media. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, five sisters, and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday March 12, 2008 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Rev. Gene Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Stronghurst cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Banks & Beals, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established.
Robert M. Charles
Mr. Robert M. Charles, 70, of Niota, Illinois passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.
He was born September 8, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Leonard Pearl and Margaret O’Dowd Charles. On June 20, 1998 he married
Fermina Dinopol in the Phillipines.
Mr. Charles had served in the US Army and worked as an electrician for the Santa Fe Railroad. He then worked as an electrician at Champion Spark Plug in Burlington for 22 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Shawn Charles of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, two daughters, Melissa Bolton of Broken Arrow and Katherine Charles, at home, one grandson, Theodore Bolton, two half brothers, Jim and Daniel Bowen both of Chicago and three half sisters, Debbie Pleckie, Patricia Farano and Mary Stapleton all of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynn Sue Charles, one brother and his parents.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City, Illinois with Father Tony Trosley and Father Troy Richmond officiating. Burial will be in the Myers cemetery near Dallas City. The family will meet with friends from 3 until 5 PM Sunday, with a prayer service at 5 PM, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City . A memorial fund has been established for his daughter, Katherine.
Charlene Rae Clay
Charlene Rae Clay, age 60 of Lomax, Illinois died at 11:03 P.M. Friday March 7, 2008 in the emergency room of the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. She was born May 2, 1947 in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of Ray Eugene and Laura Jane Ellison Kalar. In 1974, She married
John Lee Clay. They later divorced.
Charlene was a retired certified medical technician. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.
Survivors include one daughter - Melinda McCoy (and her fiancé Rick Cook) of Sciota, Illinois, one son - Jason Clay (and Tiffany) of West Burlington, Iowa, five stepchildren, eight grandchildren, several step grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sisters - Delores Rodeffer of Blandinsville, IL., Elaine Hand of Sand Springs, OK., Jane Ann Hershman of Lomax, IL., and three brothers - Keith Kalar of Jacksonville, IL., Rodney Kalar of Lomax, IL., and Steve Kalar of High Point, NC. She was preceded in death by one brother - Carl Kalar.
Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday. Cremation rites will follow visitation. A memorial fund has been established for the family.
Corinne Killip
Mrs. Corinne Killip, 82, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 8:05 P.M. at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.
She was born April 7, 1926 in LaHarpe, the daughter of Orin and Forrest Slusher Myers. She married
Ralph Killip in 1945. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1998.
She was raised in Blandinsville where she lived until moving to Russellville, Arkansas in 1977, She had worked at the McDonough District Hospital, the Russellville Hospital and at a bank in Russellville. She moved to the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center 4 weeks ago.
She is survived by two sons, Randy (Mary) Killip of Blandinsville and Blaine (Sonja) Killip of Brighton, Colorado, two daughters, Chris (Donnie) Little of LaHarpe and Lee Ann (David) Hartley of Russellville, Akansas, one son-in-law, Rick Melvin of Blandinsville, 7 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Teresa Kay Melvin and one brother, Russell Myers.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 12, 2008 at Glade City cemetery in Blandinsville with Rev. Gordon Blankenship officiating. The family will meet with friends Sunday from 4 - 6 PM at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. A memorial fund has been established for St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital.
Anson B. Coffman
Mr. Anson Byers Coffman, 90, of Surprise, Arizona, formerly of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Del Web Hospital in Sun City West, Arizona.
He was born November 23, 1917 in Dallas City, the son of George and Ina Byers Coffman. On December 23, 1943 he married
Evelyn Graff in Quincy, Illinois. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2001.
Mr. Coffman served in the US Army in World War II. He farmed near Dallas City and was a Rural Mail Carrier for many years. He lived most of his life in Dallas City except for a few years he and his wife lived in Wisconsin. They also spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona. He was a member of the former Dallas City United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons, David and Stephen Coffman, both of Surprise, Arizona, 4 grandchildren, Chris, Brian, James and Travis Coffman, 4 great-grandchildren, William, Catie, Julia and Madeline Coffman and one sister Dorothy Scholtz of Grand haven, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister, Vonnie Donnelly.
A memorial service will be held at 9:00 A.M. Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. Burial, with Military Rites, will be in the Harris cemetery near Dallas City. Following the burial, all family and friends are invited to a luncheon to be served at the Dallas City Senior Citizens Center. A memorial fund has been established for the Veteran’s Memorial in Dallas City.
David L. Collins
Mr. David Lynn Collins, 53, of Bend, Oregon, formerly of Terre Haute, Illinois passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at the St. Charles Hospital in Bend.
He was born November 20, 1954 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Wesley and Lois Bennett Collins. On September 8, 1978 he married
Kathy Whitney in Moline, Illinois.
He was a 1972 graduate of LaHarpe High School and attended Blackhawk College in Moline. In 1980 he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Oregon Institute of Technology. He worked for Federal Express in Bend and owned and operated D.P.S. Services. He enjoyed camping, reading and spending time with friends and family. He was a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, one son Benjamin of Corvallis, Oregon, one daughter, Sarah of Portland, Oregon, his parents of LaHarpe and one brother, Larry of Valrico, Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 3, 2008 at the LaHarpe Christian Church with Darren Beachy officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the LaHarpe cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe is assisting with local arrangements. A memorial service was also held in Bend, Oregon on Saturday, January 26, 2008.
Jerry L. Collins
Mr. Jerry L. Collins, 60, of Burlington, Iowa died Sunday, July 27, 2008 while fishing at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.
He was born July 16, 1948 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Owen and Louise Dunn Collins.
He graduated from LaHarpe High School and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. For the past seven years he worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant as a security guard. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.
He is survived by his special friend, Amy Oetken of Burlington, his mother, Louise Collins of LaHarpe, two sons, Joshua Lane Collins of Oquawka, Illinois and Jody Lynn Collins of Gladstone, Illinois, three grandchildren, Tom, Stephanie and Tyler Collins and one sister, Penny Brewer of LaHarpe.
He was preceded in death by his father, two nephews and his grandparents.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Darren Beachy officiating. Burial, with Military Rites, will be in the LaHarpe cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until time of services. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, between 3:00 and 8:00 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
Rose E. Collins
Mrs. Rose E. Collins, 57, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 8:30 A.M. at her home.
She was born February 2, 1951 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Marion and Rosie Bundy Shaver. On July 21, 1968 she married
Claude Collins in Abingdon, Illinois.
She worked at Lamont Limited in Burlington, Iowa for a few years and at the former LaHarpe Hospital. She had served as a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the LaHarpe Senior Citizens, the LaHarpe Union Church and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, her mother, Rosie Shaver of Abingdon, two daughters, Betty Peterson of Burlington and Juliana (Karl) Thompson of Lomax, Illinois, one son William (Bobbi) Collins of Carthage, Illinois, eleven grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, Collin and Caleb Peterson, Shelby, Dugan, Dalton and Daniel Thompson, Brooke, Cleesen and Denise Hathaway, two sisters, Lois Johnson of Monmouth, Illinois and Bessie Ladwig of Abingdon, Illinois, one brother, Raymond Shaver of Anamosa, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, one sister, Marian Harms and one brother, Marion Louis Shaver Jr.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Bruce Goettsche and Rick Goettsche officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpe cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Union Church or the MDH Hospice.
Marion R. Cooley
Marion Richard Cooley, 89 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 11:15 P.M. Sunday September 14, 2008 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. He was born May 11, 1919 in Eliza, Illinois, the son of Jesse and Ivy Driver Cooley. On February 21, 1976, he married
Betty Abernathy.
Mr. Cooley was a U.S. Army veteran of world war II. He was truck driver for many years and retired from J.I. Case Company in Bettendorf, IA. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, two daughters - Mary June Anderson of Marseilles, Illinois, Peggy Ann Cooley of Ottawa, Illinois, one step daughter - Cindy Kay Lawyer of Charleston, Illinois, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers - Herb and LaVon Cooley.
A memorial service, and military rites, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday September 20, 2008 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Rev. John Bremer officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery in Charleston, Illinois at 1:30 P.M. Friday October 3, 2008. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Eunice V. Cox
Mrs. Eunice V. Cox, 99, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 11:15 P.M. the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center in LaHarpe.
She was born July 30, 1908 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Linn and Lulu Smith Hines. On February 14, 1929 she married
Edwin T. Carlson. He died in 1963. On February 22, 1974 she married
Fred Cox. He died January 7, 1993.
Mrs. Cox was Postmaster at the Lomax, Illinois post office for many years. She was a member of the Retired Postmasters Association, the Farmers Wife Club, the Wednesday Club and was a former Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Lomax Christian Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Hoffman of Mackinaw, Illinois and Sandra (Arthur) Blank of Springfield, Illinois, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Springdale cemetery in Peoria. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center. There will be no visitation. Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe is in charge of arrangements.
