VAUGHN R. SHARP
Vaughn R. Sharp, 23, died Monday, July 17, 2006 at Perry Memorial Hospital, Princeton.
Vaughn was born November 17, 1982 in Sterling, the son of Jerry (Lori) Sharp and Catherine (Stan) Allen.
Survivors also include five sisters, Alicia Allen of Iowa City, IA, Christy Collins of Winchester, IL Savanna and Danielle Garza, both of Dover, Nichole (Jason) Knowles of Rock Falls; three brothers, Jason Harris of Rock Falls, Dylan Garza and Aaron Allen, both of Dover; and Maternal Grandparents Frank and Isabel Garza of Sterling; Paternal Grandparents Inez and Robert Adams of Rock falls.
He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandfather, Odell Sharp.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery

VINCENT S. LOPEZ
STERLING - Vincent S. Lopez, 82, died Saturday July 8, 2006 at his home after an extended illness. He worked for Northwestern Steel & Wire retiring in August of 1982 after 40 years of service and was also the owner operator of Vince’s Taco Inn, Sterling.
Vincent was born July 19, 1923 in Dallas, TX the son of Estanislao “Brownie” and Felipa Sapien Lopez. He served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945. He married Ana Maria Velazquez on April 15, 1950 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. Vincent was involved in many community organizations holding several positions including President of the Latin American Club, and was a founder of the Latin American radio show on WSDR. He also served as President of the Wallace School PTO, member of the board of directors AFM Local 328, Steelworkers Credit Union, and holds a lifetime membership of the VFW. Vincent was also the Fiesta Don in 2003. Vincent was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls.
Survivors include his wife; Ana, four daughters; Marina (Dave) Cantu, Rosalinda Lopez both of Sterling, Sonia (Ronald) Lopez Cronk of Montgomery, Violet (Dan) Buntjer of San Antonio, TX; two sons, Vincent Lopez Jr. of Moline, John (Melissa Love) Lopez of Sterling; three brothers Alfred Lopez of Rock Falls, Jesse (Adela) Lopez and Frank (Diane) Lopez, both of Sterling, eighteen grandchildren; Julio Cantu, Sarah Cantu, Phillip Cantu, Eric Cantu, Joshua Epperly-Lopez, Adam Epperly-Lopez, Katrina Epperly-Lopez, Natalie Ramirez, Vanessa Ramirez-Escobar, Hannah Ramirez, Elizabeth Walter, Daniel B. Buntjer, Andrew Buntjer, Hilaria Buntjer, Ivy Martinez, Paige Love, John V. Lopez and Jordan Lopez; and ten great-grandchildren, Christian, Alec, Julia, Trenton, Jacob, Isaiah, Nathaniel, Aniyah, Nicholas and Joshua..
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Estella Banda and Lilly Castillo and one brother, Gilbert Lopez.
Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 AM Thursday, July 13, 2006 at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Schilling Funeral Home, with Rosary at 7:30 PM.

Sara Darnell Keller
Sara Darnell Keller, 42, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, after a long battle with cancer.
Sara was born April 4, 1964 in Seattle, WA, the daughter of Thomas L. and Mary E. (Darnell) Keller.
Survivors include her father Thomas Keller of Polo; her mother Mary (Mel) Ochsner of Seattle WA; two sisters, Cheryl Ann Keller of Seattle, WA, Susan Townsend of Tacoma, WA; a brother, Mark M. Keller of Seattle, WA; three uncles, Jim (Emily) Keller of Polo, Tim (Caroline) Keller of Sterling, Fred (Jean) Darnell of Issaquah, WA; one niece Sarah Eleanor Townsend, Tacoma, WA; and many cousins.
Services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, July 3, 2006 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Bryan Bice of Faith Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be Monday from 10 to 11 AM at the Funeral Home.
RUTH L. FRANKFOTHER
COLETA - Ruth L. Frankfother, 96, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at Morrison Hospital. She was the bookkeeper for many years in her husband Martin C. Frankfother’s construction business, and also served as the Coleta correspondent for the Daily Gazette for over 40 years.
Mrs. Frankfother was born in Coleta, the daughter of William G. and Amanda (Howe) Heide, Sr. She married Martin C. Frankfother March 10, 1928 in Rock Falls. He died April 10, 2004. She was a life-long member of the Coleta United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She enjoyed bowling, playing softball, golf, and was a member of the Coleta Household Science Club.
Survivors are two daughters, Rose (George) Ritenour of Coleta, Donna (Arnold) Chandler of Madison, WI; a son, Daniel (Joyce) Frankfother of Milledgeville; two sisters, Lillian Langley of Sterling, Sarah Gettle of Coleta; a brother, Richard (Jeanine) Heide of Sterling; nine grandchildren, Wendy (Scott) Gibson, Polly (Mark) Adams, Mark (Stacey) Chandler, Nancy (Scott) Bentley, Kevin (Maureen) Frankfother, Kayla Talbot, Kent Frankfother, Julie (Darryl) Bouchard, Mark (Melinda) Fellner; 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, four brothers, and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Coleta United Methodist Church with Reverend Wesley Dickson officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4-7 PM, Friday, June 23th at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

Patricia A. Gaulrapp
ROCK FALLS - Patricia A. Gaulrapp, 54, died Thursday, June 15, 2006 at CGH Medical Center. She was employed as an executive secretary for Self Help Enterprises.
Mrs. Gaulrapp was born July 19, 1951 in Anderson, IN, the daughter of Lee and Lois (Wallace) Matthews. She graduated from Rock Falls Twp. High School in 1969. She married Merle Gaulrapp on September 4, 1970 in Sterling. She was a member of the Church of Christ, a former long-time board member of Montmorency School and Galt Grange.
Survivors are her husband, Merle; one daughter Traci (Lonnie) Wolf of Rock Falls; two sons, Phil (Laura) Gaulrapp of Polo, Michael (Amy) Gaulrapp of Rock Falls; her mother, Lois Matthews of Rock Falls; two sisters, Arlene Benters of Sterling, Brenda (Scott) Angleton of Dixon; a sister-in-law, Coelleen Gaulrapp of Rock Falls; four granddaughters, Leeanna and Adison Wolf, Lilian and Calin Gaulrapp; several nieces, nephews and one great-niece.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother-in-law, Ed Benters.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at Church of Christ, Sterling with Merle Heckman officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be 5-8, Monday, June 19th at the Schilling Funeral Home.

Donald L. Lehman, IV
Rock Falls - Donald L. Lehman, IV, 6 months old, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 at CGH Medical Center.
Donald Lehman, IV was born November 12, 2005 in Sterling, the son of Donald Lehman III and Teri L. Johnson.
Survivors are his parents; one sister, Alyssa at home; maternal grandparents, Ken and Virginia Johnson of Sterling; paternal grandparents, Donald (Sandy) Lehman, Jr. of Rock Falls, Janice (Mike) Braner of Sterling; maternal great-grandparents, Charles and Mary Jane Anderson of Lincoln; paternal great-grandparents Aleen Jones of Sterling and Doris Lehman of Rock Falls; one uncle, Darren Johnson of St. Louis; two aunts, Melissa (Ray Hubbs) Gibbons, Marcie (Michael) Gibbons, both of Sterling; and several cousins.
Preceding him in death were great-grandparents, Donald Lehman, Clifford Jones, and Sigurd (Frances) Johnson.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Coloma Twp. Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Zuithoff of Bethel Reformed Church officiating. Burial will be at the Coloma Twp. Cemetery, Rock Falls.

Fern E. Schuchard
Sterling - Fern E. Schuchard, 91, died Friday, May 12, 2006 at CGH Medical Center.
Mrs. Schuchard was born October 20, 1914 in Coleta, the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Hoagland) Waters. She married Milton M. Schuchard September 14, 1938 in Washington, Iowa. She was a member of First Open Bible Church, Rock Falls.
Survivors are her husband of Sterling; one daughter, Martha (Danny) Anderson of Rock Falls; four sons, Larry (Patricia) Schuchard, Richard (Sylvia) Schuchard, both of Sterling, Charles (Rose) Schuchard of Rock Falls, James (Sigrid) Schuchard of Granger, IN; one sister, Ethel (Garland) Kimbrell of Rochelle, one brother, Marvin (Annie) Waters of Rock Falls, 11 grandchildren, Stephanie (Christopher) Morrison, Christopher Schuchard, Amy (Robert) Enochs, Eric (Robyn) Schuchard, Scott (Jolene) Schuchard, Bou Anderson, Chad (Becky) Anderson, Troy Anderson, Haleigh Anderson, Molly Anderson, Sabrina Schuchard and 7 great grandchildren, Ella Morrison, Sofia Enochs, Jack Schuchard, Molly Schuchard, Peyton Schuchard, Elizabeth Anderson and Bou Anderson Jr.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren Dustin Schuchard and Marco Schuchard and three brothers, Clifford Waters, Everett Waters and Earl Waters.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Les Funderberg of First Open Bible Church officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Monday, May 15th at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, IL.

J. Mark Beaty
Sterling – J. Mark Beaty, 48, of Sterling, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at CGH Medical Center from complications of Leukemia.
Mark was born June 3, 1957 in Martinsville, the son of John H. and Mary (Pryor) Beaty. Mark came to Sterling after graduating from Illinois Wesleyan University. He was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Dixon.
He is survived by his parents John and Mary Beaty, one brother, Tim (Florence) Beaty, and three nephews Jeremy, Joshua, and John II all of Martinsville.
Mark leaves a community of students and friends better for his commitment to their education and enrichment. Few remain untouched by his efforts which include: Illinois Music Educators Association President for years; Canterbury Singers and Foundation; Woodlawn Fine Arts Academy; Eastern Illinois University Faculty; Festival guest conducting throughout Illinois. Director of Illinois Ambassadors of Music Choir, Director of Illinois American Choral Directors Association, member of ISA Music Advisory Board.
Accomplishments include being a recipient of Those Who Excel Award of Merit, presented by the Illinois State Board of Education. The Outstanding Young Men of America Award, the Friend of Education Award by Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Beaty was named Teacher of The Year in 2001, presented by the Sterling Schools Foundation.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, May 6, 2006 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Dixon with The Reverend Verna Maria Fair, Priest in Charge, celebrant. On Sunday, May 7, 2006, a memorial celebrating the life of J. Mark Beaty will be held at 6 PM at Sterling High School Musgrove Field House. A gathering of friends will be from 4-6 PM at the Sterling High School Commons. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the Martinsville United Methodist Church in Martinsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial in Mark’s name through the Sterling Schools Foundation.
DANIEL B. MERFELD
STERLING - Daniel B. Merfeld, 54, died Thursday, March 02, 2006 at his home in Sterling after a long courageous battle with cancer. `
Daniel B. Merfeld was born May 14, 1951 in Charles City, IA the son of Bernard and Frances Kelly Merfeld. He married Janan Galloway in Roseville, IA on September 15, 1973. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling. Mr. Merfeld also was a member of the Iowa National Guard serving as a medic.
He is survived by his wife, Janan of Sterling; two daughters, Stephanie (Aaron) Anderson of Sterling and Stacy (Mario) Dillard of Morrison; three sisters, Kathy Troy of Rochester MN, Jean Merfeld of Waterloo IA, and Pat Weiss of Manchester IA; one brother, Pete Merfeld of Mason City IA; three grandchildren, Tyree Dillard, Gage Anderson and Madison Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of the Resurrection of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Monday, March 6, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Paul White officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10 AM Monday at the church, and Sunday from 4-7 PM at Schilling Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM at the funeral home.

MARVIN JOHN SHEARER
Marvin John Shearer, 71, of Sterling died Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport, IA. Mr. Shearer was employed at Bankers Trust in Des Moines, IA for twelve years before moving to Sterling in 1971. He then became Executive Vice President at Central National Bank. After his retirement he continued to serve on the Board of Directors at Amcore Bank.
Marvin John Shearer was born Jan 24, 1936 in Sioux City, IA, the son of Russell and Esther Anderson Shearer. He married June Cummings in Eldorado, IL on August 24, 1963. Marvin graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1954. In 1958, he graduated from Drake University. He was Co-Captain of the 1957 Sun Bowl Football Team. In 1981 he was selected for the Football Team of the Century by Drake University.
He was a member of the Sterling Chamber of Commerce-President 1985, Community Service Award 1988, Sauk Valley Community College Foundation-President 1992, Sterling-Rock Falls YMCA-President 1979, and currently was serving on the Sterling City Planning Commission. He was also a member of Rock River Country Club. His golf highlights included four (4) hole-in-one's. Marvin coached Junior Tackle Football in both DesMoines and Sterling.
He is survived by his wife June; one son, Steven (Kim) Shearer of Indianapolis, IN; one daughter, Sandi (Joey) Garcia of Tampa, FL; one brother, Wendell Shearer of Sioux City, IA; and four grandchildren, Daniel, Dylan, and Drew Garcia and Griffin Shearer.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend David Yonker of the First Christian Church in Sterling officiating. There will be no burial. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established to the Sterling-Rock Falls YMCA.
MARTHA J. KLOCKE
Martha J. Klocke, 87, of Sterling, died Friday, March 30, 2007 surrounded by her family at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
Martha was born on December 16, 1919, in Sheffield, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Gorman) Genster. She married Lloyd (Sonny) Klocke on February 6, 1943, in Sheffield. Martha and Sonny owned and operated Klocke’s Sinnissippi Barbeque, a Sterling landmark, for many years.
Survivors include her daughters, Barb (Tom) Luther of Madison, Wisconsin, and Martie (Tom) Kojis of Green Bay, Wisconsin; grandchildren Karlene (Paul) Dockum, Lauri Wright, Julie (Jamie) Coker, Jodi (Courtney) Wood; Kevin (Tara) Luther, Greg (Jodi) Luther, and Joe Luther; Ben and Kelly Kojis. She is further survived by two brothers, Jack (Barb) Genster of Sheffield and C. Joseph Genster of Princeton, NJ, many nieces and nephews and 13 great grandchildren who gave her great joy.
She was preceded in death by Lloyd and two daughters, Maricarole Jenner and Kathy Drynan; her parents and three sisters.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Reverend Paul White, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday at the Schilling Funeral Home and from 9-10 AM Tuesday at the church, prior to services.
Martha will be remembered by all of the people who had so much fun at Klocke’s throughout the years. After retirement, she enjoyed the time spent with Sonny, family, and friends at their condo in Florida. Her entire family has many fond memories of playing dice, sharing laughs, and vacations with Grandma Klocke.
