ORVAL JACOBS
August 30, 1909 - July 16, 2001
Orval C. "Jake" Jacobs, 91, of Carthage, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage of natural causes.
He was born August 30, 1909, in Henderson County, the son of Charles and Lela Woods Jacobs on the family farm. He married
Doris Fitzgerald in St. Louis, Mo., on November 25, 1948. She survives.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of Carthage; one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Pat) Knustrom of Nauvoo; three grandchildren; two great grandsons; two sisters, Louise Knustrom of Denmark, Iowa, and Vera White of Stronghurst.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister.
He attended school and graduated from Stronghurst High School. He farmed until he was called into service during World War II where he served overseas in the U.S. Army. He received an honorable discharge in 1946. He moved to Carthage after his discharge. In Carthage he worked at the Chevy and Buick garage until his retirement in 1974. After his retirement he worked as a funeral assistant for the Neiser Funeral Home and later the DeJong-Neiser Funeral Home in Carthage and Bowen for over ten years. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion in Carthage. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church and the Triangle Class. In his later years he enjoyed his garden.
Funeral services will be held at the Neiser-Printy Funeral Home in Carthage at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 19, with burial to follow in the Moss Ridge cemetery in Carthage. Pastor William Pyatt will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. tonight at Neiser-Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Carthage Senior Center or the United Methodist Church in Carthage.
DR. KEITH L. HULL, SR.
Nov. 16, 1916 -- Feb. 13, 2002
Dr. Keith L. Hull, Sr., of Tyler, Texas, died Feb. 13, 2002, in Tyler, after a brief hospital stay.
He was born on Nov. 16, 1916, in LaHarpe.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Walker Hull; two sons, Keith Jr. (Julie) of Raleigh, N.C., and Kim (Jill) of Green Bay, Wis.; six grandchildren; one stepson, James Douglas Walker; one step daughter, Laura Ann Armstrong; one sister Mrs. Ruth Hull Batty of Macomb; and one brother, Dean Hull of Clarence, Mo.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Durham United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dennis Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Durham cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established for the Durham United Methodist Church.
LOIS E. BENNETT
Jan. 25, 1932 -- April 9, 2003
Lois E. Bennett, 71, of Valrico, Fla., formerly of Terre Haute, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City, Fla.
She was born Jan. 25, 1932, in Lancaster, Mo., the daughter of Luel M. and Lillian E. Smith Palmer. On Oct. 6, 1951, she married
Leland W. Bennett in Burlington, Iowa.
She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Linda Orth of Burlington, Gloria Harmony of Tampa, Fla., and Brenda Collins of Valrico; one son, Ronald Bennett of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren; and three brother, Hollis Palmer of Burlington, and Harley Palmer and Boyd Palmer, both of LaHarpe.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 14, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiated. Burial followed in the Aspen Grove cemetery in Burlington.
A memorial fund has been established in her memory.
MARY I. WINKLER
Aug. 4, 1907 -- Aug. 10, 2003
Mary Irene Winkler, 96, a resident of the Heritage East in Beardstown for about the last 15 years, and formerly a resident of Springfield and Hamilton, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at Heritage East.
She was born Aug. 4, 1907, in Adrian, a daughter of Henry and Frances Taylor Winkler.
She is survived by one sister, Jessie Henry of California, one brother, Bert (Lois) Winkler of Macomb, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Clarence, Pearl, Irvin and Earl.
She made her home in Springfield, since she was 18-years-old. She worked as a domestic housekeeper. She was a member of the Springfield Assembly of God Church.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Oakwood cemetery in Hamilton. Rev. Jerry Goodrich officiated.
The Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton was in charge of the arrangements.
THELMA MARSDEN
July 27, 1912 - February 7, 2001
Thelma Marsden, 88, of Dallas City, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001, at her home. She was born July 27, 1912, in Olena, Ill., the daughter of Burton C. and Mary Della (Booton) Burrell. She married
Paul Arthur Marsden on October 5, 1929. He preceded her on August 7, 1967.
She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Jimmie (Marilyn) McDermott of Santa Maria, Calif, Mrs. Richard (Nedra) McKasson of Burlington, Iowa, Mrs. Michael (Rhoda) Molter of Dallas City, Mrs. Sid, (Mary Alice) Kranenberg of Los Gaviotos, Mexico, Mrs. Wayne (Linda) Rettig of Dallas City, and Mrs. Richard (Lori) Ray of Dallas City; four sons, Gary (Sharon) Marsden of Caballo, NM, George (Karen) Marsden of Dallas City, Michael (Judy) Marsden of Dallas City, and Kirby (Theresa) Marsden of Dallas City; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, six brothers, and one granddaughter.
She attended grade school in Olena, Ill., and lived all of her adult life in Dallas City.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 11, at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, with Rev. Larry VanGundy officiating. Burial was in Carman cemetery in Carman, Ill.

MARJORIE POLLPETER
February 27, 1913 - July 14, 2001
Marjorie C. Pollpeter, 88, of Warsaw, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
She was born on February 27, 1913, in Burnside, the daughter of Herbert R. and Flora E. VanDine. She married
Harold "Smokey" Pollpeter on September 30, 1966, in Las Vegas, Nevada . He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one niece, Sharon "Cher" Jenkins of Warsaw; one step daughter, Norma "Jackie" Allen of Seattle, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Warren VanDine.
She was a graduate of Burnside High School in Burnside. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an excellent seamstress and cook. She was of the Christian faith.
The body was cremated and services will be held at a later date.

SHELDON ALVA SCHWARTZ
Oct. 27, 1913 - Feb. 20, 2002
Sheldon Alva Schwartz, 88, a longtime resident of Hamilton, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Keokuk Convalescent Center in Keokuk.
He was born in Montebello Township, Hancock County, on Oct. 27, 1913, to Barton and Ruby Simpson Schwartz. On April 21, 1970, he married
Ada Joy Stillwell in Palmyra, Mo. She died Oct. 8, 2000.
He is survived by one step-daughter, Linda Lou Allred of Venice, Calif.; two step-sons, Dannie D. Watts of Keokuk, and Marion Max Watts of Joliet; one very close friend cousin, Cheryl Vogel of Hamilton; 11 step-grandchildren; 16 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; uncles; aunts; cousins; and one step-daughter, Joan Ricci.
He was baptized at Hamilton Golden's Point Christian Church in the summer of 2000, where he was on the Cradle Roll as a baby.
He was an active member of Grain Processors Union and Teamsters Union. He attended Brown Country School between Warsaw and Hamilton. He was an avid horseman and also loved and raised Spitz dogs.
He was employed as a truck driver, working at many area businesses. He had worked for the City of Hamilton, drove a milk truck in Keokuk for Hayes-Daugherty, and worked for 21 years for Gray Quarries and W.L. Miller in Hamilton.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Feb. 23, at Oak Grove cemetery in rural Hamilton, with Rev. Randy White officiating.
Memorials have been established in his memory.
MARY JANE STEVENS
October 27, 1926 - July 15, 2001
Mary Jane Stevens, 74, of LaHarpe, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She was born October 27, 1926, in LaHarpe, the daughter of Walter and Olive Wade Boyd. On April 27, 1945, she married
Don Stevens in LaHarpe. He survives.
Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Sheila) Clover of Lebanon, Ind.; two sons, Todd (Carol) Stevens of LaHarpe, and Kevin (Kathy) Stevens of Ocean Springs, Miss.; two sisters; three brothers, including Glen and Gerald Boyd both of LaHarpe; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.
Services were held July 18 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial was in the LaHarpe cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the LaHarpe Union Church and the LaHarpe Senior Citizens.
EVALYN P. WOLLBRINK
Jan. 7, 1919 -- Feb. 20, 2002
Evalyn Pauline Wollbrink, 83, a lifetime resident of Sutter, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She was born on Jan. 7, 1919, near Tioga, the daughter of George and Eva Kropp Altheide. She married
Lester Oscar Wollbrink on July 29, 1936, in Macomb. He survives in Sutter.
She is survived by her husband, Lester; three daughters, Evalyn Ann (Gerald) Roskamp of Sutter, Barbara (Jerry) Hagmeier of Quincy, and Nancy (Steve) Baker of Quincy; two sisters, Lucille Butts, of Sandwich, Ill., and Irene Hudson of Albuquerque, N.M.; one half-sister, Wilma Thorton of Ursa; three half-brothers, Kenneth Altheide of Quincy, Dale Altheide of Quincy, and George Altheide of Talbot, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wilbur Altheide; one half-brother, Eldon Altheide.
After her mother's death, she was raised by her grandparents, John and Louise Kunz Kropp.
She and her husband, have farmed in the Sutter area for many years. She enjoyed quilting, flower gardening, and gardening. She was a longtime member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Tioga, where she remained very active. She was also active in the Women's Fellowship and taught Sunday School for many years.
Services were held Friday, Friday, Feb. 22, with Pastor Nancy Nyberg officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Bethany United Church of Christ.
CECIL L. BOREN
May 18, 1912 -- Aug. 14, 2003
Cecil L. Boren, 91, of Sharon Pines Health Care in Peoria, formerly of LaHarpe, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Sharon Pines.
He was born May 18, 1912, in Mount City, a son of Fred and Nora Mae Kinslow Boren. On July 14, 1961, he married
Louise Link in Jacksonville. She died Aug. 22, 1996.
He is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law.
Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 18, at the LaHarpe cemetery. Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiated.
