RUTH E. TODD
March 2, 1921 -- Oct. 1, 2004
Ruth E. Todd, 83, of Wheaton, formally of the Burnside and LaHarpe communities, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, in Edwards Hospital in Naperville.
She was born March 2, 1921, in Union County, Pa., a daughter of Jesse E. and Leona E. Hascher Tyson. She first married
Donald O. Chatman in Peoria. He died Feb. 15, 1988. She then married
J.W. Todd in July of 1991. He died Jan. 1, 2002.
She is survived by three step-daughters, Martha Ann (Bill) Hulett of New Windsor, Julia Marie (John) Hillman of Aledo, and Jill (John) Sime of Racine, Wis; one step-son, Thomas Jay (Andra) Todd of Wheaton; four step-grandchildren, Brandon, Jason and Erik Todd and Nicholas Sime.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and her brother and sisters.
She worked in the Peoria area for the Best Foods for several years, After her marriage to Todd, they moved to McAllen, Texas, where she became an active volunteer at the hospital. She was a very skilled lady in the kitchen, and loved to bake. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and crafts. Prior to her husband's death, they were avid travelers.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, in the Moss Ridge cemetery in Carthage with Rev. Greg Busboom officiating. Burial will follow the services.
Memorials in the name of Ruth Todd have been established.
JAMES A. BREWER
June 21, 1947 -- Sept. 24, 2004
James A. Brewer, 57, of Denver, know as G-Dad by his family, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, as a result of a truck accident north of Carthage.
He was born in Keokuk, Iowa, on June 21, 1947, the son of Clarence Jefferson and Rose Irene Thompson Brewer. On June 2, 1968, he married
Linda Brodie at the Ferris Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of Denver; three daughters, Teresa (Jerry Kindhart) Weinberg of Lewistown, Mo., Abbey (Ken) Sadler of Aurora, and Betsy (Brian) Marten of Niota; five grandchildren, Rachel and Brodie Weinberg, Drew Martens, and Trey and Connor Sadler; three step-grandchildren, Dustin and Bradley Kindhart and Kourtney Sadler; two sisters, Carol (Dick) Roth of Alexis and Clarene (Mike) Arnold of Clinton.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Albert in infancy.
Growing up he was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church. He attended Independence School through the eighth grade and then went on to graduate in 1965 from Carthage High School. He had a lifelong love of farming and was a jack of all trades. He worked for Nicor Gas for 25 years retiring in 2002 to pursue his love of traveling and camping with his wife. He was an avid card player and three stooges golfer with Kevin and Jack. He had a heart for his grandchildren.

GERALD W. KARR
July 1, 1929 -- Oct. 2, 2004
Gerald W. Karr, 75, of Lutz, Fla., formerly of Hamilton, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, in Lutz.
He was born on July 1, 1929, in Hamilton, the son of Winnard E. "Jack" and Rosa O'Rell Myers Karr. He married
Marilyn Weigel on Feb. 14, 1952, in McCook, Neb.
He is survived by two daughters, Katherine (Thomas C.) Sylvester of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Patricia (Paul) Paulk of Deland, Fla.; one son, David (Wendy) Karr of Beloit, Wis.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had worked as a mechanical engineer. He loved to travel and to fly.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. at Oakwood cemetery in Hamilton.
Memorials have been established in his memory.
ROBERT C. GANION
Robert C. Ganion, 90, of Carthage, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage of natural causes.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
AUDREY B. MILLS
June 15, 1924 -- Jan. 21, 2004
Audrey Mills, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in Santa Clarita, Calif., after a short illness. She was born in West Point on June 15, 1924, the daughter of Darrell and Lois Collins Cheney.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Mills; her son-in-law, Thomas White; two granddaughters, Raina Mills and Kristin Cable; and her sisters, Irene Schutte and Shirley Kurtzrock. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Cheney Novasod; and her brothers, Larry Cheney and Clarence Cheney.
She lived in Burlington, Iowa, where she worked as a secretary at city hall for 16 years. She had also lived in Quincy; Portland, Ore.; Jourdanton, Texas; and for the past eight and one-half years in Santa Clarita. Her kind heart, strong will, sharp mind and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Services will be privately held.
JULIE K. YOCUM

Julie Kay Linnenburger Yocum, 41, of Sciota, formerly of Hamilton, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born Nov. 15, 1962, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Marvin William and Darlene A. LaBonte Linnenburger. She married
Danny Yocum on May 10, 2002, in Macomb.
She is survived by her husband, Danny L. Yocum of Sciota; her mother, Darlene Linnenburger of Hamilton; her mother-in-law, Patsy Davis of Brooklet, Ga.; one daughter, Hope Danielle Yocum at home in Sciota; one son, David Craig Coovert of Sycamore; one step-daughter, Lisa (Karl) Hall of Macomb; two step-sons, David Rittenhouse of Adair and Robert (Marnie) Featherston of Cloquet, Minn.; two sisters, Cindy (Roger) Kirby of Hamilton and Lisa Hoehne of Carol Stream; two brothers, Mike (Val) Linnenburger of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and David (Tracy) Linnenburger of Macomb; four step-grandchildren, Kyle, Kolton, Keegan and Garret; and her paternal grandmother, Mary Linnenburger of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1979.
She is a 1980 graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton. She graduated from Robert Morris College in 1982. She was a former member of Bethel Presbyterian Church of Hamilton, and was a member of Roseville Christian Church in Roseville. She had worked at Dadant & Sons, Inc. in Hamilton and Yetter Manufacturing in Colchester. Her last employment was Casey's in Roseville. She enjoyed cooking and especially liked to bake cookies at Christmas. She enjoyed helping others and especially loved spending time with her family.
Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Lamporte Funeral Home of Carthage. Rev. Tim Randall officiated. Burial followed in the Bushnell cemetery in Bushnell.
A memorial has been established in memory of Julie Kay Linnenburger Yocum.
DENVER THOMAS
Sept. 12, 1925 -- Jan. 19, 2004
Denver Nyal Thomas, 78, of Dallas City died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
He was born Sept. 12, 1925, in Raritan, the son of Alva William and Emma Worley Thomas. On May 12, 1951, he married
Jacquelyn Hewett in Pontoosuc. She survives.
He was a graduate of Blandinsville High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946, serving aboard the L.S.T. #1 in the Atlantic. He worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa, for 20 years, then at J.I. Case in Burlington, retiring in 1988. He was an avid auction sale fan and was a collector of many things. He enjoyed bowling, card playing, and his friends and family. He belonged to the American Bowling Congress, bowling in Fort Madison, Iowa. He was a devoted member of the Dallas City American Legion Post 0297, a member of AARP, N.R.A. and a former member of Union Local 807. He was also a member of the L.S.T. #1 Association, traveling to various parts of the United States each year for their Navy reunions.
Besides his wife, Nyal is survived by one daughter Nyla K. French of Burlington, Iowa; one son, William J. Thomas of New York, N.Y.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Mabel Cushing of Pontiac, Moneta Morgan of Swansboro, N.C., and Marjorie Watson of San Jacinto, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
A memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 22, at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Jim Luder and Ruth Higgins officiating. Military rites were given by the LaHarpe American Legion.
A memorial fund has been established for the Dallas City American Legion and the Lomax Ambulance.
RUTH M. DIEW
Nov. 18, 1915 -- Jan. 24, 2004
Ruth Marie Cuerden Diew, 88, a longtime resident of the Nauvoo and Niota areas, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk.
She was born on Nov. 18, 1915, near Powellton, the daughter of Grant and Bernice Jackson Cuerden.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen (Jack) Hall of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one son, Monte R. Diew of Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Damon and Darren Hall.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Floyd Cuerden.
She had a long career in the medical field, spanning from the early 1950s until her retirement in 1981. She received her nurses training in Keokuk after high school. She worked as an Army nurse, a registered nurse at Graham Hospital, and after the hospital consolidation, at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk. She was a member of Appanoose Faith Presbyterian Church in Niota. She enjoyed attending church, walking, visiting with family and friends and reading.
Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 28, (today), at 11 a.m. at the Appanoose Faith Presbyterian Church in Niota. Burial will follow in the Thornber cemetery in Powellton.
A memorial has been established for the Appanoose Presbyterian Church of the donor's choice.
MILDRED M. KEITHLEY
Aug. 26, 1926 -- Jan. 24, 2004
Mildred Maxine Keithley, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, in the Great River Medical Center in the Klein Unit in Burlington, Iowa.
She was born in Ferris on Aug. 26, 1926, a daughter of Charles and Myrtle Carol Long. She married
John E. Keithley on Feb. 13, 1945, in Burlington.
She is survived by one son, Joe Eugene "Gene" Keithley in West Burlington; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Mears of New London, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She worked for IAAP production for 39 years, when she retired in 1990. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Ferris, the Women of the Moose Chapter #587, in Burlington, and the Ladies Auxiliary Foe Aerie #150.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. (today) Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the Elvaston City cemetery. Pastor Ron Leonard will officiate.
A memorial has been established in Mildred's memory.
CARLOS ROSADO

Carlos Rosado, 74, a resident of Montebello Manor HealthCare Center in Hamilton, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in the nursing home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1929. He was a resident of Montebello Manor HealthCare in Hamilton for the last 25 years. He was a client at the Hancock County Mental Health Center in Carthage.
He has no family. His only family has been the residents at the nursing home and the fellow clients at the mental health center.
Graveside funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 23, in Moss Ridge cemetery in Carthage. Pastor Joe Little officiated.
The Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage was in charge of the arrangements.
ROBERT L. SNODGRASS
Nov. 21, 1947 -- March 27, 2004
Robert L. Snodgrass, 56, of Pittsburg, Kan., died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, Okla.
He was born Nov. 21, 1947, in Geneseo, to Harold Allen and Elaine Carol Tertipes Snodgrass. He married
Beverly E. Dion on March 28, 1970, in Carthage.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" Lewis of Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., and Sarah Shaw of Olathe, Kan.; one son John Snodgrass of Omaha, Neb.; his mother, Elaine Snodgrass of Oklahoma City, Okla.; four grandchildren; one sister, Bette Roadruck of Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, a twin, Roger Snodgrass, and Harold "Skett's" Snodgrass, Jr.
He attended school in Carthage and graduated from Carthage Community High School in 1965. He received his bachelor of science degree in education from Western Illinois University in 1969. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 until 1973. He worked for Sugar Creek Packing Company from 1973 until 1992 moving to Pittsburg in 1984 as general manager of the Frontenac plant. He was presently employed as a sales represenative for Utility Service Inc. of Parry, Ga. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Crestwood Country Club. He served on the board of directors of Bank IV and later Boatman's Bank of Pittsburg.
Services were held today, Wednesday, March 30, at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Thomas Sims and Rev. Kathleen Owsley officiated. Burial followed in the Highland Park cemetery.
