Corben M. DeKoster, 84, of Kewanee, Il. died at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, June 12, 2005 at his home. He was born August 14, 1922 in Hooppole, Il. the son of Emil and Leshia (Greenwood) DeKoster.
He married
Margaret Jean Dolieslager March 19, 1952 in Minnesota. She preceded him in death March 21, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Joe and Arthur and one sister Katherine.
He was an Army Veteran of WWII stationed at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked.
He had been employed at International Harvestor in East Moline and was a member of Local #1304. He enjoyed cars, carpentry and hunting.
Surviving is one son Allen G. DeKoster of Kewanee. Three grandchildren Meishara Carlton, Kimberly Hewlett and Autumn DeKoster and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters Florence, Marie and Hazel and one brother Charles.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 16, 2005 in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, rural Kewanee. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council.
Jeanette Linda Hurst

Jeanette Linda Hurst, 55, of Kewanee, Il. died at 1:20 P.M. Sunday, June 19, 2005 at her residence. She was born March 3, 1950 in Chicago, Il. the daughter of Edward and Mabel (Josephson) Miller. She was reared and educated in Chicago. She married
Steve Prendergast. They were later divorced. She married
Mike Hurst and they were later divorced. Surviving are two sons Brian (Kathy) Prendergast of Colona, Il and Harold (Christina) Hurst of Kewanee. One daughter Lori Prendergast and her husband Tito Rios of Chicago. Five grandchildren Christopher, Gianna, Alyssa, Leo and Bailey. She was expecting her sixth grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers Robert (Kathy) Miller of Minneapolis, Mn. and Kenneth (Marianne) Miller of Chippewa Falls, Wi. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a homemaker.
A celebration of life will be held at the brick shelter house at Windmont Park in Kewanee from 12:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 2, 2005 where a memorial service will be conducted at 5:00 P.M. Rev. Robin Faull will officiate. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. A memorial has been established and contributions may be left at the service on Saturday. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arrangements.
Donald R. Nelson

Donald R. Nelson, 59, of Kewanee, Il. died at 3:20 P.M. Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at his home. He was born August 5, 1945 in Kewanee the son of Carl and Darlene (Taets) Nelson. He was reared and educated in Annawan. He married
Judy Erdman June 10, 1983 in Kewanee. She died Nov. 2, 2001. He married
Judy (Trussen) Parks august 2, 2003 in Kewanee. She survives along with two stepdaughters Jennifer (Chad) Lucas of Kewanee and Jeanine (Steve) Lane of Atkinson, One step son Jonathan Parks of Kewanee and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters Mary Jane Claeys of Frederick, Wi, and Barbara A. (Quentin) Wolf of Hooppole, Il. Four nieces and two nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
He had been employed at Pearson’s in Galva, the Kewanee Corporation and last worked at Rumbold Elevator in Wyoming, Il. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kewanee and had also attended Calvary Baptist Church
He enjoyed cars, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Pastor Brian Currier of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Friday, June 24th at the funeral home where the rosary will be recited 7:30 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the Calvary Baptist Church.
Robert (Dr. Bob) Breedlove

Robert Frank Breedlove, 53, died tragically on Thursday, June 23, 2005 when his bicycle was struck head-on by a pick-up truck in the hills of Colorado, when competing in the Insight Race Across America. He was an icon in the cycling world, an esteemed member of the medical community. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him, but above all he was an exemplary family man.
Dr. Bob, as he was most commonly known, spent his life demonstrating the qualities that he valued most in the people around him. He was a kind and generous man whose love of God, family and community drove him to be a success in every sense of the word. Bob’s humor and positive outlook altered the lives of everyone he met. His list of personal and professional accolades is lengthy, but he would say his greatest achievements were accomplished in the context of his family. He will be deeply missed by his partners at Des Moines Orthopedic Surgeons and the entire cycling community.
Born February 29, 1952 in Kewanee, Illinois, he is survived by his wife, Gretchen ( Lester) Breedlove ; his four children, Molly (Richard) Wince, Annie (Eric) Brown, Erika and Bill; his grandchildren, Adam and Haley Wince; his parents, R.E. and Katherine Breedlove; his siblings, Dave (Karen) Breedlove of Minocqua, WI, twin brother, Bill ( La Jean) Breedlove of Kewanee, Dan (Liz) Breedlove of Kewanee, and Debbie (Mike) Pillen of Kewanee; and many much loved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has selected to honor Bob by requesting memorial contributions be made to organizations of extreme importance to him; Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, Dowling Catholic High School, Des Moines Parks and Recreation Trail Improvement Project, and the Dr. Bob Breedlove Memorial Kewanee Athletic Fund.
Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Westown Funeral Home, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Tuesday, June 28th from 4pm to 8pm . Funeral services will be held at Plymouth Church, 4126 Ingersoll Avenue, Des Moines on Wednesday, June 29th at 10 am. Friends and family are invited to the local graveside services which will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday June 29th at the Wethersfield cemetery.
Immediately following the services all friends and family are invited to a memorial gathering at Windmont Park. The Schueneman & Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee are in charge of local arrangements.

Paulette M. Bochnak, 57, of Kewanee, Il. died at 12:05 P.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Kewanee Hospital. She was born July 17, 1947 in Chicago, Il. the daughter of Clarence and Pauline (LeBeau) Fortier. She was reared and educated in Chicago. She married
John A. Bochnak November 2, 1969 in Chicago. He survives along with one son John E. (Erika Bochnak of Lockport, Il., two grandchildren MacKenna and Jackson, one sister Kathy (Mrs. Ron) Cochran of Tinley Park, Il. and two brothers Patrick (Nancy) Fortier of Orland Park, Il. and Robert “Bob” (Dorothy) Fortier of Bridgeview, Il. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She and her husband moved to Kewanee in 2002.
Here she attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cary, Il. where she sang in the church choir.
A memorial mass will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 9, 2005 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kewanee. Rev. James Pallardy will officiate. There will be no visitation. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Hospital Foundation. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il is in charge of the arrangements.
Dale B. Whisker

Dale B. Whisker, 81, of Kewanee, Il. died at 4:40 A.M. Friday, July 22, 2005 at Kewanee Hospital. He was born September 10, 1923 in Kewanee the son of Orvil and Alice Abergale (Malone) Whisker. He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1942.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the destroyer USS Meredith. He participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy.
He married
Shirley Mae Welch May 16, 1948 in Kewanee. She died January 27, 1983. He married
Marilyn Hayden March 14, 1985 in Kewanee. She survives along with one son Douglas D. (and Dee Dee) Whisker of Geneseo, two grandsons Darren M.Whisker of Los Angeles, Ca. and David M. Whisker of Fort Collins, Co. one stepdaughter Chris (Mrs. Mark) Schueneman of Kewanee and two step grandchildren Jill Schueneman of Kewanee and Neil Schueneman of Carbondale, Il., and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
He was employed at J.C. Penney in Chicago and Kewanee. He later worked for many years as a meat cutter for L’Ecluse Grocery and Eagles in Kewanee. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kewanee, Kewanee VFW Post 8078 and the Meat Cutters Local Union #431. Dale was on the Fire and Police pension board. He had been involved with the youth programs at the Methodist Church in the 1960’s. He was President to the Little League Baseball program, and also was a coach. He had been President of the Wethersfield Athletic Booster program in the 1960’s. He had been on several bowling leagues in Kewanee. He was on the Kewanee Public Library board of trustees from 1959 – 1963.
He enjoyed bowling, golf, attending games and following the Chicago White Sox. He enjoyed his grandchildren
Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church, Kewanee with the Rev. Bruce Rushing officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee where military honors will accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Monday, July 25th at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee.
Merrill G. Tilson

Merrill G. Tilson, 79, of Rural Route 1 Buda, Il. died at Saturday morning, July 30, 2005 at Colonial Hall Nursing Home, Princeton, Il. He was born April 11, 1926 in Kewanee, Il. the son of Joe and Fern (Faulk) Tilson. He graduated from Buda High School. He married
Lois P. Hill September 6, 1947. She survives along with one son Gregory (and Cindy) Tilson of Princeton, one daughter Debbie Ann (and Jim) Nicholson of Utica, Il. Two grandchildren and one great grandchild, two brothers Lynne Tilson of LaFayette, Il. and Steve (and Marina) Tilson of Long Grove, Il. and one sister Pat (and Goldwyn) Hansen of Buda, Il. His parents and two infant brothers John and David preceded him in death.
He was a seaman 1st class in the US Navy during WWII serving in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and European African Middle East Campaign.
He had farmed all his life in the Buda area.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Dan Craig will officiate. Following the services, Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Private family inurnment will be in the Osceola Grove cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Bruce Edmond Standaert

Bruce Edmond Standaert, 48, of Crawfordsville, Fl. and formerly of Kewanee, Il. died early Thursday morning at his home in Crawfordsville. He was born December 28, 1956 in Kewanee the son of Edmond and Mary Lou (McCall) Standaert. He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1975.
Surviving are his parents of Kewanee, special friend Rosemary DeMoret with whom he resided and aunts, uncle, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Standaert and Maternal grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. Claude McCall.
He was a salesman of Used Car parts in Crawfordsville. He enjoyed working on old cars, was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed spending time on the computer.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kewanee.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Il. Rev. Dr. Kevin Siscoe of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Big Ben Hospice of Tallahassee, Fl. or the First Baptist Church of Kewanee.
Alvin Arthur Kuster

Alvin Arthur Kuster, 86, of Rural, Kewanee, Il. died at 3:30 P.M. Saturday, August 6, 2005 at Royal Oaks Nursing Home in Kewanee.
He was born January 30, 1919 in rural Kewanee the son of S.H. and Eleanora (Peters) Kuster. He graduated 8th grade from the Kuster School on May 3, 1932.
He married
Leanore Bennett December 2, 1939 in Neponset, Il. The couple farmed the family farm for many years. She survives along with one son Bennett Kuster of Kewanee, two daughters Rosemary (and Bill) Vetos of Golden, Co., Alice (and John) Salonya of Arvada, Co., eight grandchildren Jennifer Cabral, Julie Vetos, Abigail Vetos Brauer, Todd Kuster, Chris Kuster, Beth Kuster Sierens, Nik Kuster and Laura Salonya and one great grandson Isaac Kuster. Also surviving are two sisters Doris Schultz of Sacramento, Ca. and Frances Kuster of Macomb, Il. His parents, one brother Herbert Kuster and two sisters Lillian Dunbar and Florence Robinson preceded him in death.
He was a Member of the Church of Peace, rural Kewanee and the Men’s Brotherhood. He was a member of the Henry Co. Farm Bureau, Kewanee Historical Society and Ryan Round Barn Foundation. He enjoyed fox hunting and looking for Indian arrowheads. Known for farm conservation practices, he was a member of the Henry Country Soil and Water Conservation District and was named the Conservation Farm Family of the Year in 1993.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at the Church of Peace. Rev. Betty Hornback will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. and ½ hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Garden of Peace. Memorials may be directed to the Church of Peace.
