Leonard C. “Len” DeWit

Leonard C. “Len” DeWit, 78, of Kewanee, Il. died at 12:25 A.M. Thursday, September 22, 2005 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital. He was born February 17, 1927 in Chicago, Il the son of Leonard C. and Helen K. (Pursell) DeWit, Sr. He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1945.
He married
Ann Bullock Yordy February 27, 1971 in Kewanee. She survives along with two sons John Dewit of Houston, Tx., John (and Nancy) DeWit of Nashville, Tn. and one daughter Susan (and Phillip) Spainhour also of Nashville. Two stepsons Mark (and Julie) Yordy of Kewanee, Don (and Janel) Yordy of Sterling, Il. and two step daughters Elizabeth K. (and Roger) Wurmnest of Peoria, Il. and Glenda (and Raymond) Hanson of Kewanee. Eleven grandchildren and five great grand children. His parents and one brother Heyer “Dutch” Dewit preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Springfield. He was self-employed owning and operating DeWit’s Sales and Service in Kewanee. He was of the Episcopal Faith. He enjoyed spending time with family, coffee with friends and building things.
There will be no services or visitation. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee where the Kewanee Veterans Council will accord military honors. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Food Pantry or the Kewanee Humane Society.
Jack V. Fischer

Jack V. Fischer, 73, of Kewanee, Il. died at 5:05 A.M. Monday, October 17, 2005 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital. He was born June 23, 1932 in Kewanee the son of George and Maude (Pierce) Fischer. He attended school in Kewanee and Moline.
He married
Rita A. Jones September 3, 1955 in Kewanee having recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She survives along with his mother Maude Fischer of Kewanee, two sons Michael (Yelena) Fischer of Maryland Heights, Mo., Gerald Fischer of Keller, Texas and one daughter Sheryl (Mrs. David) Blahnik of Oreana, Il. Two grandchildren Katherine Mullis and Nicholas Fischer, four sisters Shirley Wilson of Kewanee, Theresa DeCraene of Joliet, Il., Janice Jones of Menomonee, Wi., and Helen Fischer of Galva.
His father, two brothers Harold and George, Jr., a son John Thomas Fischer in infancy and a grandson John in infancy preceded him in death.
He was employed at the former Peterson-Roberts Construction Co. in the Quad Cities. He later was employed for over 30 years as a supervisor for McNeill Asphalt Company in Kewanee retiring in 1997.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War serving in the signal corps. During his service, he supervised the rebuilding of Korean schools. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kewanee and Carpenters Union #166 for 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, hunting with his sons, spending time with his pets, his coffee klatch at McDonald’s and Burger King and spending time with his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 20, 2005 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. James G. Pallardy will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee, Il. where the Kewanee Veterans Council will accord military honors. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, October 19th with the recitation of the rosary at 7:45 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
Nancy Lee McCrary

Nancy Lee McCrary, 83, of Kewanee, Il. and formerly of Springfield, Il. died at 2:35 P.M. Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Kewanee Care Home.
She was born July 25, 1922 in McQuady, Kentucky the daughter of Henry and Victoria (Smith) Duncan.
She was the founder and sole owner of Nancy’s Slipcovers in Springfield, Il. For over 50 years she filled thousands for homes with beauty. She was a member of the VFW Aux., the Audubon Society and was a blood donor. She enjoyed golf, bowling, dancing and auctions. She adopted cared for many dogs and birds.
Surviving is one son W. Benjamin (Patricia) Canter of Kewanee. Three daughters Verna Lee (Tom) Spake of Glen Allen, Alaska, Linda Susan Canter of Wasilla, Alaska and Victoria (Rick) Black of Williamsville, Il.
Seven grandchildren Sally (Jim) Ross, Dara Matson, Patty McGrew, Jessie Nee, Ron Carter, Mike Carter and Dan Kramer. Ten great grandchildren Megan, Kylie, Riley, Mason, Lacon, Jesse, Jobi, Ryan, Tyler and Katie. Also surviving is one brother Wavy Duncan of Decatur, Il. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Cinda Austin.
There will be no visitation or services. Memorials may be directed to the Audubon Society. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of the arrangements.
Mabel L. Neuendorf

Mabel L. Neuendorf, 90, of Kewanee, Il. died at 12:48 A.M. Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Kewanee Hospital. She was born April 9, 1915 in Edmonson County, Kentucky the daughter of Asa Marion and Margery Elinor (Evans) Beckner. The family moved to Kewanee where she was reared and educated. She married
James Neuendorf July 28, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1976.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers James, William and Sherman, five sisters Frances, Edna, Marion, Lois and Veachie and one grandson Jeffrey Roesner and one great grandson Kayn Williams.
Surviving are three sons Keith (Janet) Roesner of Kewanee, Darryl Roesner of Sayreville, New Jersey and Terry (Janifer) Roesner of Cambridge, Il. Five grandchildren Michelle Williams, Leatha Damron, Kurt (Beth) Roesner, Lisa Reevie and Tressa Nimrick. Four great grandsons Neil, Cade, Kyle and Mark.
One sister Gladys Heiser of Milwaukee, Wi.,
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kewanee and its Wawtabt Sunday School Class and Lydia Circle. She was also a member of the Flemish American Club and the Quilters Club of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ.
An avid reader, she also enjoyed quilting, spending time with her family and watching golf on television.
Cremation rites will be accorded and memorial services will be announced in the spring of 2006 by the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il.
Robert “Bobby” Petty

Robert “Bobby” Petty, 49, of Dixon, Il. and formerly of Kewanee died Friday, December 2, 2005 at KSB Hospital Dixon Il. He was born July 14, 1956 in Kewanee son Clifford and Alice (Carter) Petty. He was reared and educated in Kewanee schools.
He is survived by his fiancé Zena Nelson Watts, two sons Clifford Petty, Jesse Lee Petty both of Dixon Il. Also survived by four sisters Mrs. David (Janet) Jones and Mrs. Steve (Carolyn) Jones both of Dixon. Mrs. Brock (Bobbie) Helton of Sterling Il, and Robin Smith Petty of Cambridge Il. Five nephews, six nieces, three great nieces and four great nephews.
He was preceded in death by both parents, and one brother Clifford Petty Jr. He enjoyed westerns, Indians and cowboys, fishing and boating.
He worked as scrap metal seller.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Dr. Kevin Siscoe of the First Baptist Church of Kewanee will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee, Il. Visitation is one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mary Kathryn Mikenas

Mary Kathryn Mikenas, 89, of LaGrange, Il. and formerly of Kewanee and Harvey, Il. died October 26, 2006 at the Meadow Brook Manor Nursing Home in LaGrange. She was born March 6, 1917 in Chase, Il. the daughter of Victor J. and Cassandra (Smith) Olson. She was reared and educated in Kewanee. She married
Anthony J. Mikenas on May 13, 1939 in Harvey, Il. The couple resided in Harvey from 1945 to 1978 at which time they returned to Kewanee, Il. He died in October of 1992. Mary moved to Harvey, Il. in 2001.
Surviving is one son John (Gail) Mikenas of Brookfield, Il., one grandson Michael Mikenas and one granddaughter Anne Mikenas. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. The Rev. Steven Bird will officiate. Inurnment will be the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee, Il. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Joan E. Jones

Joan E. Jones, 87, of Kewanee, Il. died at 10:30 P.M. Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Kewanee Care Home. She was born December 6, 1919 in LaFayette, Il. the daughter Henry and Katherine (Jones) Hagerty. She graduated Summa Cum Laude at the age of 16 from LaFayette High School. She later earned her LPN degree. She was employed at St. Francis Hospital in Kewanee and later at Leisure Hills Nursing Home retiring in 1984. She married
Raymond A. Carlson July 30, 1942. He died September 15, 1985. She was also preceded in death by two brothers Joseph and Paul Hagerty and a son-in-law Kenneth “Sonny” Downey. She married
Robert Jones May 22, 1991 in Kewanee. He survives along with three daughters Ann Downey of Kewanee, Tracy Thorndike of Geneseo, Il. and Chris Stevens and her husband Brad Earle of Iowa city, Ia., six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kewanee and the Altar and Rosary Society having served at many funeral dinners. She enjoyed reading and the Cubs and Atlanta braves.
A Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 16, 2006 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kewanee. Rev. James Pallardy will officiate. Private inurnment will be at later date. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday, December 15, 2006 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the charity of donors choice.
Ann R. Norton

Ann R. Norton, 99, of Neponset, Il. died at 5:55 A.M. at Colonial Hall Nursing Home in Princeton, Il. She was born January 17, 1907 in Elmira, Il. the daughter of William H. and Tillie (McDonald) Armstrong. She attended Elmira Grade School and Toulon High School. She married
J. Ward Norton October 15, 1923 in Galesburg, Il. He died April 4, 1980. She was also preceded in death by two sons Clarence and Harry, five brothers and two infant sisters.
Surviving are two daughters Josephine (John) Verbout of Neponset, Il., Patricia (Sam) Henson of Mission, Tx., two sons Ward Norton of Galesburg, Il., Robert (Barbara) Norton of Annawan, Il., a daughter-in-law Sue Norton of Neponset, Il., twenty six grandchildren, forty one great grandchildren and nineteen great great grandchildren.
A homemaker, she and her husband also farmed for many years in Neponset and also ran a restaurant for several years. She was also employed at the Neponset School cafeteria for several years. She attended the Neponset Congregational Church and enjoyed playing cards, reading and spending time with family.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. William R. Toliver of the Neponset Congregational Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Floral Hill cemetery, Neponset, Il. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Neponset Congregational Church.
Gerald Willard Partridge

Gerald Willard Partridge, 89, of Kewanee, Il. died at 7:15 A.M. Sunday, December 31, 2006 at his home. He was born March 19, 1917 in Kewanee the son of William and Eleanor (Miller) Partridge. He graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1935. He was a partner in the family business; Partridge Pie Shop.
Surviving is a sister Eleanor Benedict of Kewanee, numerous nieces and nephews including Cameron Benedict of Nauvoo, Il., Rev. Ronald Partridge of England, Dr. Glenn Partridge of Flint, Mi., Atty. Gerald N. Partridge of Washington, Ia. and Dorothy Nussbaum of Rock Island, Il.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Glen and Charles in infancy, three half brothers and two half sisters.
Gerald was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kewanee where he served as Church Clerk for twenty five years and in other callings of the Church.
He was an avid reader and sports enthusiast reading about events in the paper and watching on T.V.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Friday, January 5, 2007 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. President David Drowns will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee, Il. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Friday at the Church. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arrangements.
