Adela A. Allison, 94, of Kewanee, Il. died at 4:10 P.M. Friday, July 28, 2006 at the home of her daughter Rochelle Asbell. She was born April 15, 1912 in Kewanee the daughter of Otto and Anna (Mundiens) Schultz. She attended Kewanee High School. She married
Ira Malcolm Allison in Kewanee. He preceded her in death in 1979. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and one son Malcolm Otto Allison.
Surviving are two daughters Gwyndola “Gwen” Peach and Rochelle (Mrs. Harry) Asbell all of Kewanee. Eight grandchildren Donald Peach Jr. Ivy Curtis, Susan Bosch, Daniel Peach, Gary Asbell, Allison Asbell, Brenda Robinson and Monica Garland and six great grandchildren.
Adela had been employed at the former Kewanee Mail-a-graph prior to her retirement. She was one of Kewanee Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and spending time with her family.
Private Graveside services were held at 11:00 A.M. today in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Clifford Wys officiated. Memorials may be directed to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Jean E. Fowler

Jean E. Fowler, of Florence, Co. and formerly of Toulon and Kewanee, Il. died at 9:20 A.M. Friday, July 28, 2006 in Florence. She was born November 22, 1912 in Toulon, Il. the daughter of C. Dale and Mary Jane “Jennie” (Pierson) Fowler.
She had lived in Colorado as a young girl, where her mother was being treated for tuberculosis. She moved permanently to Colorado in 1961.
A retired school teacher and musician, she loved the blue skies and mountains of Colorado, music, hand crafts and dogs. She was a Congregationalist.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and an older sister Ruth. There are no known survivors.
Private graveside services will be held in the Toulon cemetery on Friday. There is no visitation. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arangments.
Henry J. VanWassenhove

Henry J. VanWassenhove, 90, of Kewanee, Il. died at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Toulon Health Care Center. He was born February 14, 1916 in Kewanee the son of Edward and Clara VanWassenhove. He was reared and educated here. He married
Frances Vinavich September 8, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa. She died November 23, 1999. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Margaret, five brothers Peter, Raymond, Edmund, Augie and Frank and two sisters Gusty and Claire.
Surviving are four sons Edmund VanWassenhove of Panama City, Fl., Ken (Cindy) VanWassenhove of Kewanee, Douglas VanWassenhove of Georgetown, Mass., Wayne VanWassenhove of Kewanee, two granddaughters Vicki and Tim Rosebeck, Amy and Jeff Holman and one great grandson Brady Holman.
He was a WWII Army veteran serving in the European Theatre with the Fifth Armored Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the former St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Knights of St. John and the Flemish American Club. He enjoyed playing cards and the clubs rummy tournaments. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday, July 9, 2006 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Rev. Steven Bird will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee where the Kewanee Veterans Council will accord military honors. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Thursday, July 8th at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee where the rosary will be recited at 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to his church or the Alzheimer Foundation.
Anton J. “Tony” Benesevich

Anton J. “Tony” Benesevich, 92, of Kewanee, Il. died at 11:13 A.M. Thursday, September 7, 2006 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital. He was born August 26, 1914 in Kewanee the son of Anthony and Petronella “Pat” (Maculavante) Benesevich. He graduated from Kewanee High School. He served in the Coast Guard as a radio technician during WWII and received two bronze stars. He married
Myrtle H. Johnson June 27, 1953 in Kewanee. She survives along with one sister Mrs. Isabel Vinson of Lacrosse, Wi., three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Bruno Benesevich.
He was employed at Hyster Co. in Kewanee as a tool manager, retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Kewanee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 11, 2006 from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Rev. Steven Bird will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee, Il. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Schools Foundation for the Learning Resource Center. Kathleen Adele Younglove

Kathleen Adele Younglove, 88, of Kewanee, Il. died at 10:00 A.M. Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Courtyard Estates in Kewanee. She was born December 12, 1917 in Chicago, Il. the daughter of Henry Hal and Kathryn (Malone) Webber. She attended school in Chicago and received her nursing degree form Loyola/Englewood Hospital in 1942.
She married
Dr. Robert Younglove November 14, 1944 in Chicago, Il. and worked with him as a surgery nurse in Alaska during WWII. Following the war, they moved to Kewanee. He died in 1979. She was also preceded in death by a son in infancy, one grandson, two sisters and one brother.
Surviving are two daughters Kathleen (Michael) Cravatta of Camdenton, Mo., Bonnie (Dr. Douglas) Tomlinson of Kewanee, two sons Hal (Jacqueline) Younglove of Overland Park, Ks., David (Connie) Younglove of Kewanee. 11 Grandchildren, Courtney, Chad, Ashley, Whitney, Cameron, Alison, Jeffrey, Erin, Hilary, Trevor, Todd and six great grandchildren Connor, Aubrey, Sawyer, Samuel, David and Ashtyn.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kewanee and its Altar and Rosary Society and was a charter member of the Catholic Book Club.
Kay did volunteer work with Visitation School being a teacher’s aid, and was a Girl Scout leader for 11 years and had Cub Scout meetings at her home. She started the candy striper program at both hospitals in Kewanee for high school girls. She joined the Red Cross and Helped with Blood mobiles until 1999. She also volunteered at Kewanee Senior Center for many years before she moved to Courtyard Village. She was an active member and former officer of the Kewanee Chapter DAR for 50 years. Kay was a member of Midland Country Club and enjoyed golfing in ladies leagues.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 23, 2006 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kewanee, Il. Revs. James Pallardy and Robert Prendergast will concelebrate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Church on Saturday.
Private family inurnment will be in the Westville, Indiana.

Edwin “Ed” Smith Klinetop

Edwin “Ed” Smith Klinetop, 94, a fifty-eight year resident of Kewanee, died Monday, September 18, 2006 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 10, 1912 in Charles City, Iowa the son of Frank and Clara (Smith) Klinetop. He married
Helen Tilley December 7, 1939 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. She survives along with two daughters Catherine (Warren) Johnson of Tampa, Fl., Suzanne Klinetop (Chee) Chung of Oakbrook, Il., three grandchildren Kristin Diane Johnson of Tampa, Karyn Elizabeth Hoppe of Franklin, Tn., Christopher Edwin Chung of Oakbrook and three great grandsons Trey, Jackson and Wesley Hoppe all of Franklin, Tn. Also surviving is a brother Allan (Evelyn) Klinetop of Charles City, Iowa, Sister-in-law Delores (Clair) Walter and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
He was a 29 year employee of the Kewanee Star Courier, retiring in 1977. He was a sixty year member of the Kewanee Masonic Lodge #159 A.F. & A.M. An avid golfer; Ed placed first in the 1999 Kewanee Senior Tourney at the age of 87. He also enjoyed playing the violin.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday, September 22, 2006 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Dan Craig will officiate. Burial will be in the Wethersfield cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:30 A.M. until 1:10 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. At 1:10 P.M. a Masonic service will be conducted.

Lois M Jones

Lois M. Jones, 91, recently of Boise, Idaho and formerly of Kewanee, Il. died at 1:04 A.M. Thursday, August 31, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise. She was born March 17, 1915 in Kewanee, the daughter of Elwood and Lucina Franks. She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1933. She married
Frank “Bud” Jones August 7, 1936 in LaPeer, Michigan. He preceded her in death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by two sisters Violet Stuhlsatz and Edna Hanks.
Surviving is a daughter Karen L. (Robert) Porter of Boise, one son Terry F. (Nicki) Jones of Bend, Oregon, seven grandchildren Robert (Kristin), Christopher (Dana), Tyler (Jacqui) and Grant (Kim) Porter, Anne (Dylan) Pedersen, Tyler and Ian Jones and eight great grandchildren Grace, Emily, Olivia, Isabella, Jude, Bennett, Noel and Lux.
The most important aspect of Lois’s life was love of her family. She loved to dance and her last wish was to dance at grandson Chris’s wedding reception in June, which she did, with great style and passion.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. The Rev. K. Bruce Rushing will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee, Il. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Kewanee Area United Way or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Edith E. Shepherd

Edith E. Shepherd, 94, of Kewanee, Il. died at 4:45 P.M. Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Kewanee Care Home where she resided.
She was born April 22, 1912 in Stockholm, Kentucky the daughter of Belvy V. and Mildred (Bone) Strange. The family moved to Kewanee when she was a child and she was reared and educated here.
She married
Woodland Woodward in August of 1934. He died in February of 1946. she married
Ralph Shepherd in November of 1947 and he died in July of 1968. She was also preceded in death by two sisters Rose Wiley and Ann Smith and two brothers L.V. “Dutch” Strange and Ernie Strange.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She owned a restaurant in California for many years prior to her retirement. She returned to Kewanee in 1987. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.
There will be no services or visitation. Private burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of the arrangements.
Julius “Johnnie” Claeys

Julius “Johnnie” Claeys, 89, of Davenport, Ia. and formerly of Kewanee, Il. died at 10:00 P.M. Monday, October 23, 2006 at his residence. He was born September 21, 1917 in Kewanee the son of Alphonse and Irma (DeClercq) Claeys. He was reared and educated in Kewanee. He served in the C.C.C. on the west coast during the depression and later served during WWII in the Army Military Police. He married
Miriam Blair June 7, 1945 in Kewanee. She survives along with three daughters Julie (Ron) Morrison of Blue Grass, Ia., Carol Heyvaert of Davenport, Ia., Pam (Ken) Ralfs of Davenport, Ia, two sons Ernest “Butch” Heyvaert of Davenport, Ia and Dennis (Pamela) Claeys of Bernie, Mo., numerous grand and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Nancy, two grandsons Robert and Anthony, six brothers and two sisters.
He had been employed in the foundry at the former Walworth Co. in Kewanee and later worked for 37 years as a machinist at J.I. Case in Bettendorf retiring in November of 1983.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kewanee. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, fishing and camping.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 27, 2006 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee, Il. where military honors will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
