Joy N. DeVoss – Kutchma, 69, of Kewanee died at 5:00 pm. Wednesday May 18, 2005 at the home of her niece Lennie Kilgore, Silvis Il. She was born April 9, 1936 in Whitwell, Tennessee the daughter of Joseph and Maggie (Yell) Grimes. She was reared and educated in Tennessee. She married Elmer DeVoss in Rossville, Georgia. He preceded her in death in 1976. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, seven brothers, three children in infancy and two grandchildren.

She married Walter Kutchma in Kewanee in 1978.

She is survived by two sons Elmer “Mike” DeVoss Jr. of Kewanee Il, George (Michele) DeVoss of Rantoul Il. Two daughters Kathy Arbogast of Iowa, and Wanda Woods of Kewanee Il. One step-daughter Esther Smith of Kewanee and special friend Bill Zeglis of Kewanee. Three sisters also survive Mildred Nunley of Whitwell Tn, Rachel Gadd of Sodey Daisey Tn, and Jodie Petty of Silvis Il. One brother Lonnie Grimes of Whitwell Tn. Ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Joy was a home maker and enjoyed camping, fishing, canoeing, puzzles, and stitching.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Saturday May 21, 2005 at Schueneman & Tumbleson fh Kewanee, with the Pastor Dan Craig officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am Saturday at the funeral home until service time. Burial will be in the Henry cemetery, Henry Il. A Memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home.

Eleanor M. Pratt

Eleanor M. Pratt, 86, of Kewanee, Il. died at 12:45 A.M. Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Toulon Health Care Center, Toulon, Il. She was born October 1, 1917 in Alexis, Il. the daughter of Joseph L. and Anna (Malaney) Morford.

She graduated from Port Byron High School in 1934.

She married Frank “Zeke” Pratt August 12, 1939 in Walker, Minn. He died May 12, 1975. She was also preceded in death her parents, one sister Pauline Stewart and one brother Frank Morford. Surviving is a son John (Gayle) of California. Two granddaughters Helen and Lissa.

She had been employed at Briegel Tool Co. in Galva, Il. and later was employed as payroll clerk at the former Hyster Co. in Kewanee from 1966 to 1986.

She was of the Catholic faith.

She enjoyed dancing and spending time with her friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Fredi Gomez Torres of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic cemetery, Rapids City, Il.

Visitation will be one half hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Edith L. Fornander

Edith L. Fornander, 82, of Kewanee Care Home died at 9:10 P.M. Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the home. She was born August 25, 1922 in Adams County, Illinois the daughter of Fred and Carolyn “Callie” (Fengel) Ruhl. She was reared and educated in Adams County. She married Howard P. Fornander April 30, 1948 in Elmwood, Illinois. He died March 20, 1983. Her parents and one brother Layo Ruhl also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters Joye (Mrs. Gary) Baze of Kewanee, Il. and Mary Ann (Mrs. Dennis) Rinkenberger of Philo, Il.

Four grandsons Joel, Adam, Chad (Michele) and Matthew Baze. One great grandson Brandon Baze and one great granddaughter Aubrey Baze.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kewanee, the United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle and the South Side Club. She had been employed for 24 years at Empire Clothing in Kewanee retiring in 1988. She enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, cooking and serving meals for the Kewanee Rotary Club for many years.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 16, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Kewanee. Rev. Dale Kooi will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, rural Kewanee. Visitation will be from 3-5 P.M. Sunday, May 15th at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church.

Lloyd W. Ewing, Jr.
07/24/1930 - 05/09/2005
Lloyd W. Ewing, Jr., 74, of Kewanee, Il. died at 7:48 P.M. Monday, May 9, 2005 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Il. He was born July 24, 1930 in Davenport, Iowa the son of Lloyd W. and Edna (Richter) Ewing, Sr. He was reared and educated in Davenport in his youth. His family moved to Kewanee where he graduated from Kewanee High School in 1949.

He had been employed as a salesman for former Sieg Co. in Kewanee. He later was a partner in Kewanee Auto Supply and in 1971 he purchased Ann’s Inn which was later renamed Lloyd’s of Kewanee. He celebrated the 100th anniversary of the famous bar in 1998. He sold the business in 2001.

He had been well known stock car driver for 25 years at numerous tracks around the area. He also flagged races at Peoria Speedway. He was a member of the Kewanee Masonic Lodge #159 AF & AM, the Kewanee Elks Lodge and the Kewanee Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, NASCAR and yard work.

Surviving is a son Steve (Darla) Ewing of Lafayette, Il. and three grandchildren Tara, Tyler and Tanner. Also surviving is his special friend of twenty four years Georgia Conner and her family including children Jeff, Greg and Stephanie and grandchildren Liz, Daniel, Kassandra, Alicia, Haley, Payton and James.

He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.

A Memorial service will be at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 14, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Pastor Dan Craig will officiate. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Jeanne Elizabeth Anderson

Jeanne Elizabeth Anderson, 85, of Kewanee, Il. died at 8:02 P.M. Friday, May 6, 2005 at Kewanee Care Home. She was born December 3, 1919 in Galva, Il. the daughter of Raymond and Edith (Hawthorne) Donaldson. She was reared and educated in Kewanee and graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1937.

She married Arlo G. Anderson January 15, 1938 in Muscatine, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 29, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother Robert Donaldson.

Surviving are two sons Richard (Carolyn) Anderson, Ron Anderson and his special friend Linda and one daughter Sharon (Mrs. Tom) Guthrie all of Kewanee. Six grandchildren Mark, James, Chad, Denise, Dawn and Michael. Eight great grandchildren Alissa, Kayla, Ashlee, Lyndsey, Joshua, Brady, Cole and Cole Thomas.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Dr. Kevin Siscoe of the First Baptist Church of Kewanee and Rev. Jerry Rafalko Hospice chaplain will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 11:30 A.M. to the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Hospital Hospice.

Gary A. Moore

Gary A. Moore, 56, of Kewanee, Il. and formerly of Neponset, Il. died at 2:40 A.M. Friday, May 6, 2005 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Il.

He was born April 20, 1949 in Kewanee the son of Gilbert V. and Virginia M. (Bennett) Moore. He was reared and educated in Neponset, Il. graduating from Neponset High School in 1967.

He married Bonnie Fueri in 1972. They were later divorced. Surviving include two daughters Stacia (Mrs. Eric) Eastburn of Geneseo, Il. and Mandy Moore and Kyle Charlett of Kewanee. One son Jason (Amber) Moore of Kewanee. Four grandson Drake, Gage, Rhett and Xander and one granddaughter Chloe. His parents of Sheffield, Il. One sister Susan L. Swearingen of Neponset and one brother James E. (Cindy) Moore of Princeton, Il. Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and one sister Judith Pletkovich.

He had been employed by Eagle Food Stores working in Kewanee. He retired in 1993 due to ill health. He was a member of the Neponset Congregational Church and had been a member of the Jaycee’s where he coached a baseball team. He had been a D.J. with Hog City Music Works and enjoyed listening to music. He was an avid Cub’s fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Rev. William R. Toliver will officiate. Burial will be in the Floral Hill cemetery, Neponset, Il. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Monday, May 9th at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Foundation or the Buda Rescue Squad.

George E. Clifford

George E. Clifford 81 of Galva Il, currently Kewanee died 4:00 am Thursday May 5, 2005 at the Kewanee Care Home. He was born July 13, 1923 in Victoria Il. son of Frank and Vesta Bothwell Clifford. He was reared and educated in the the Victoria Il schools, he was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the European Theater . He married Bertha K. Morgan October 4, 1947 in Galesburg Il. She survives as well as one daughter Mrs. Jerry (Christine) Lewis of Kewanee, one son Richard ( Kathy) Clifford of Toulon Il. Five grand children Johanna, Jenna Lewis and Bailey, Tyler, Kelsey Clifford.

Also survived by one sister Mary Hendricks of Blue Springs Missouri, and one brother Frank Clifford of Victoria Il, and nieces and nephews.

He worked for 36 ½ years at the Galva Foundry retiring in 1985. After his retirement he had been a greeter at the Kewanee Walmart Store. He was a member of the Galva Grace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, and his grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11:00 Tuesday May 10, 2005 at the Galva cemetery with the Pastor Leo Smith officiating. Military Rites will conducted at the grave site. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Monday May 9, 2005 at the Schueneman & Tumbleson fh Kewanee. Memorials to the Galva Grace United Methodist Church.

Dorothy J. Cox

Dorothy J. Cox, 81, of Kewanee, Il. died at 10:47 A.M. Sunday, May 1, 2005 at her home. She was born June 21, 1923 in Kewanee the daughter of Oscar and Bessie (Drehman) Bengston. She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1941. She married Elmer L. Cox August 11, 1951 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2004. Her parents and an infant brother also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sisters Mrs. Nettie Stith of Lake Isabella, Ca. and Mrs. Frances Spiegel of Toulon, Il. Two brothers in law Art and Donna Cox and Earnie and Diane Cox all of Kewanee and one sister in law Pearl (Mrs. Wes) Helm of Fargo, N.D. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She had been employed as a secretary at the former Kewanee Works Walworth Co. and Kewanee Machinery and Conveyor in Kewanee prior to her retirement. She was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Kewanee. She had enjoyed traveling with her husband.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 5, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Brian Currier of the Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church.
