Mark Robert Hepner, 55, died at 3:05 P.M., Monday, April 29, 2013 at his home on Brandenburg Corners, Kewanee Township following a courageous battle against cancer.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Church of Peace, rural Kewanee, Il. Pastor Dan Craig will officiate. Burial will be in the Garden of Peace. Visitation will be from 2-7 P.M. Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. where Masonic Services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Church of Peace. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to an education fund for Mark’s daughters Linnea or to the Church of Peace Building Fund.

Mark was born November 13, 1957, in Kewanee, the son of Robert and Norma (Sellman) Hepner. He was a 1975 graduate of Kewanee High School. He attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Il. earning a B.A. in 1979 and M.A. in 1984, both in history. In 1992, Mark was awarded the Ed.S. Degree in Educational Administration from Western Illinois University in Macomb.

Mark taught history at Atkinson High School and Kewanee Central Junior High School. He served as an administrator at Lombard Junior High School in Galesburg. From 1989 to 2003, he was Assistant Principal at Washington Junior High School in Rock Island, Illinois, and 2003-2013 he served as Principal of Washington Junior High.

Mark was involved in many organizations and served in many leadership roles.

He was a member of the Association for Supervision & Curriculum Development, on the board of Illinois State Dean’s Association, Illinois Principal’s Association, National Association of Secondary School Administrators, and Rock Island-Milan Secondary & Elementary Administrators Association. Mark served as Regional and State Director of Black Hawk Illinois Principal’s Association. He was named Middle School Principal of the year by the Black Hawk Region of the Illinois Principal’s Association in 2010 and was named the IPE State Principal of year for middle schools. Mark received the Illinois State Dean’s Association 2001 R.O.S.E. Award and in 2003 and again in 2010 was named the winner of the Illinois Principal’s Association/Horace Mann Community Service Award. In 2013 he won the IPA Herman Graves award.

He was a baptized and confirmed member of Church of Peace. He served as church board president, member of the Brotherhood, served on many committees, and helped conduct the annual memorial service for the deceased veterans of the Church of Peace on Memorial Day for many years. He was noted as the Church Historian. He also planned a Sept. 11th community service of remembrance and a candlelight vigil to celebrate the spirit of America and remembrance of those who lost their lives held at the Church of Peace.

Mark belonged to the Kewanee Historical Society, serving on the board of the Francis Park Foundation, Henry County Farm Bureau, the Henry County #377 Board for Abilities Plus as their chairman and he and his wife Annette are leaders of the Kewanee King Pins 4-H Club.

Mark was an active Freemason. He was a member of the Kewanee Masonic Lodge #159 AF&AM; for 21 years, where he served as Master twice. Mark was past High Priest of Kewanee Chapter #47 Royal Arch Masons and the recipient of Order of High Priesthood, and Commander of Kewanee Commandery #71 Knights Templar. He was past Eminent Commander of Kewanee Commandery #71 and is a life member of the IL Past Commanders Association. Mark was Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Rock Island Council #20 and recipient of the Silver Trowel Award. He was a member of the Mohammed Shrine of Peoria and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Central IL Forest No 208. Mark was also a member of Peoria Council 35 Universal Craftsmen Council of Engineers, Warren Chapter 119 of the Sword of Bunker Hill in Chicago, and Zal Grotto of Moline. He was Past Excellent Chief of Earl of Torrell and Past Pussiant Sovereign Master of St. Helena. Mark was a charter member of Fort Armstrong Council #436 AMD in Rock Island and served as Sovereign Master in 2005. Mark was a member of Central Illinois York Rite College 42 in Pekin, Earl of Torrell Council 24 of Knight Masons in Springfield, St. Helena Conclave of Red Cross of Constantine in Peoria, and Illinois Priory #11 K.Y.C.H. Mark was also a member of the GROTTO of North America. He was Past Sovereign Prince and Past Most Wise Master of the Moline Scottish Rite. As a member of Moline Scottish Rite, Mark received the MSA award and in 2006, he received the highest award for Scottish Rite Masons which is the 33rd degree.. The ultimate honor bestowed upon him by the State of Illinois was the Distinguished Service Award in 2010.

Mark married Annette Zink on October 14, 1995 at the Church of Peace. Surviving is his wife, Annette, daughter Linnea, at home, parents Robert and Norma Hepner, Kewanee, sister Dianne (Jeff) Wasson, niece Annika, and nephew Trevor, of Iowa City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Mark enjoyed the outdoors, yard work and gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.

Marian Marcella Reed

Marian Marcella Reed, 91, of Kewanee, Il. and formerly of Osceola, Il. died at 1:10 A.M. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee. Marcella was born November 8, 1921 in Bradford, Il. the daughter of Clarence and Ruby L. (Swearingen) McLane. She graduated from Bradford High School in 1939.

Marcella married Blaine Davis Reed on September 11, 1940 in Muscatine, Ia. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Dexter, two brothers Cecil and Virgil McLane and two sisters Velma Hodges and Bernita Marquis.

Surviving are her six children Douglas Reed of East Moline, Ill, Gary (Linda) Reed of Princeton, Il., Linda (Ron) Conner of Denver, Co., Sandra Reed of Aurora, Co., Kimberly (Mitchell) Winn of Kewanee and Shelley Reed of Kewanee, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Blaine and Marcella farmed for over 50 years north of Osceola in Elmira Twp., Stark County prior to retiring in 1987. Marcella was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kewanee. She enjoyed handcrafts and oil painting but most of all loved being a mom and grandma.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Burial will be in the Osceola cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Kewanee.

Elizabeth “Betty” Keller

Elizabeth “Betty” Keller, 76, of Kewanee, Il. died at 11:35 A.M. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Il. Betty was born May 16, 1937 in Coal Valley, Il. the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Derricks) Grymonprez. She graduated from Moline High School in 1956 and attended MIC in Moline and Black Hawk Junior College. She married Edwin Keller Jr. on September 9, 1972 in St. Pious Catholic Church in Rock Island. He preceded her in death in 1991. She was also preceded in death by a stillborn son Timothy Edward Keller, her parents, two brothers Frank and Charles Grymonprez, and two sisters Marguerite Grymonprez and Alice DePover.

Surviving is a sister Leona Seemann of Kewanee, two nephews, three nieces and six great nieces and nephews.

Betty had been employed at The Fashion Clothing Store in Rock Island for 11 years and later worked for 26 years at Abilities Plus in Kewanee prior to her retirement.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kewanee. She enjoyed NASCAR, country music, spending time with her friends and her dog Snicker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kewanee, Il. Fr. Anthony Bernas will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary cemetery, Rock Island, Il. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. where the rosary will be recited at 6:30 P.M.

Madlyn David, 94, of Kewanee, Il. died at 8:45 A.M. Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the home of her son Eddie. Madlyn was born April 10, 1919 in Kewanee, Il. the daughter of Charles and Clara (Martin) Lippens. She married Bernard David on February 15, 1941 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, two brothers Charles and Prosper Lippens and two sisters Leona Johnson and Mary Barnes. Surviving is her son Eddie David of Kewanee, five grandchildren Sarah (Jimmy) Rodela, Theresa (Shiana) David, Madlyn (Jerry VanDeVelde) David, Lorie (Jeff) Daniel and Bernard (Kathy) David, five great grandchildren Kayla Rodela, David Rodela and Nicole Rodela and Luke Peed, Alyssa Nanninga and Anthony David, three great great grandchildren Mackenzie, Makenna and Ana and her former daughter-in-law Jan David.

Madlyn was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Flemish American Club. She had been employed at Ace Leather in Kewanee prior to her retirement. She enjoyed hand crafts, reading, spending time with her family and will especially be remembered for her baking of pies and cookies at the holidays.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 20, 2013 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Pastor Dan Craig will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee, Il. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Senior Citizen Center.

Doris K. Monceski

Doris K. Monceski, 85, of Kewanee, Il. died at 9:35 A.M. Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Courtyard Estates in Kewanee.. Doris was born January 26, 1928 in Wethersfield, Twp., Henry Co. the daughter Jess L. and Esther J. (Hier) Harlan. She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1946.

She married Leonard Monceski on July 3, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a stillborn son Michael, three brothers Glenn, Harold and Raymond and one sister Ruby Kida.

Surviving is a son Dan (Diane) Monceski of Zionsville, Ind., three grandchildren Michael Monceski, Kristin (Erik) Hallgren and Randi (Kelly) Littlejohn, three sisters Bernadine Olsen of Moline, Mildred Libby of Geneseo and Jean Ferns of Coal Valley, Il. a sister-in-law Rose McGee of Kewanee and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was a member of Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Kewanee and served on the Ladies Mission Society and served over the years as President, Recording Secretary and Treasurer. Doris had worked in the former dental office of Dr. Carney in Kewanee.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, crocheting and church work.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 31, 2013 at Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Kewanee. Fr. Jerry Rafalko will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee, Il. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Thursday at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. where the rosary will be recited at 6:45 P.M. Memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Church.

Elaine B. Price

Elaine B. Price, 88, of Kewanee, Il. died at. 5:15 P.M. Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Kewanee Care Home.

Elaine was born October 22, 1924 in Kewanee, Il. the only child of Walter and Bessie (Hepner) Geer.

She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1942.

She married Wayne Price on January 31, 1943 in Oakland Ca.. The couple owned and operated the Kewanee Sale Barn from 1972-1987.

Wayne preceded her in death on April 23, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving is a daughter Sharon (Ron) Larson of Kewanee and granddaughter Lesa Hayden Griffin of Kewanee, Il. a brother-in-law Dean (Janet) Price of Neponset and special friends Bob Ainley and Alice Couve..

Elaine was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Kewanee, the Kewanee Woman’s Club and Flemish American Club. Elaine had been active in the Burns Grange and she and husband Wayne were members of the Tri-City Saddle Club and the Wyanet Antique Car Club. Elaine loved to travel. She enjoyed her home and working in her garden and flower beds.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church in Kewanee. Rev. David Gerke will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until time of services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church or the Kewanee Humane Society.

The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arrangements.

Carlena M. Bradley

BRADENTON, Fla. — Carlena M. Bradley, 75, of Bradenton and formerly of Galva and Neponset, died Friday April 9, 2004 at Morning Side Nursing Home in Seminple, Fla.

Funeral services will be at 1O a.m. Thursday, April 15, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Private family interment will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, rural Kewanee. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Church of Christ Scientist, 1335 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, Fla. 34205; or the Neponset ' Public Library.

She was born Nov. 28, 1928 in Chicago, the daughter of Carl and Ena Carsten. She graduated from United Township High School in East Moline and Black Hawk College in Moline. She married Arthur Bradley Sept. 19,1948 in Rock Island.

He survives, as do a daughter, Mrs. Charles "Chuck" (Susan) Blake of Kewanee; three sons Steven C. (Darlene) Bradley of Homosassa, Fla., Michael S. (Jane) pradley of Lakeland, Fla. and Allan A. (Pamela) Bradley of St. Petersburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren, A$|ley and Wesley Bradley of Homosassa, Courtney Blake of San Diego and Bradley Blake of Cliicago, Carianne and Jason Bradley of Lakeland, Mrs. Kevin (Heather)Parks of Qearwater, Fla. and Lisa Bradley of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a great-grandson Trevor Parks.

she owned and operated the Corner Store in Neponset from 1961 to 1965. She was also a travel agent with Novak Travel Agency in Kewanee. The couple moved to Florida 32 years ago. In Florida she worked for the former Continental Travel Agency, which is now known as AAA Travel in Manatee County, and retired after 25 years.

She had been a den mother for the Cub Scouts in Neponset and a volunteer at the Neponset Public Library.

She was a member of The Mother Church in Boston and First Church of Christ Scientist in Kewanee and Bradenton, where she held offices of reader, Sunday school teacher and reading room librarian.

For the last four years, she was the Southwest Florida reading room representative for the Christian Science Publishing Society based in Boston.
