Bernard W. Jones, 85, of Bishop Hill, died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2Q04 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital.
At his request, his body was donated to science. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Dec. 26, 1918 in Kewanee, the son of William L. and Sadie A. (O'Brien) Jones. He married
Maurine Hay Feb. 21, 2001 in Bishop Hill.
She survives, as do a daughter, Patricia Houseman of Fort Myers, Fla.; two granddaughters, Sarah and Rachel; and two great-granddaughters, Nicole and Danielle. Three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Kewanee High School and attended the University of Michigan. He had been employed at the Dana Corp.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kewanee. He enjoyed golfing, horses and sports.
Emily E. Robson

KEWANEE — Emily E. Ribson, 97, of Kewanee died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at 8:13 a.m. at Kewanee Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 20 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, the Rev. Dr. Kevin Siscoe officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Memorials may be made to the Manx Society, of which she was a member; or First Baptist Church of Kewanee, of which she also was a member.
She was born March 22, 1907 on the Isle of Man, British Isles, the daughter of Jack and Eleanor (Coole) Shimmin. She came to the United States in 1912 and was schooled in Galva and Kewanee. She married
Lloyd Robson Dec 30,1931 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death in 1981. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and Kenneth.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Doris) Friend of Cambridge, Mrs Jack (Mary) Hathaway of Galva and Roberta O'Hara of Fenton, Mich.; four grandchildren, Anne and John Hathaway and David and Tim O'Hara; five greatgrandchildren; and three nephews, Robert, David and William Shimmin.
She had lived for 50-plus years on the family farm in Burns Township prior to moving to Kewanee. She was a member of the FLS Sunday school class at her church. She enjoyed gardening in her English garden, and flowers.
Marianne N. Purtle

KEWANEE — Marianne Newman Purtle, 73, of Harrison, Mo. and formerly of Kewanee, died April 21, 2004 at Aurora Nursing Center in Aurora, Mo. Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held in Missouri on May 15 and a graveside memorial service in Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee will be announced at a later date by Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee.
She was born Nov. 4, 1930 in Chicago, the daughter of Charles and Opal (Ballard) Green. She was reared and educated in Kewanee and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1948. She married
George Purtle May 18, 2000 in Aurora, Mo. He survives, as do a son, Malcolm Newman of Bloomington, Minn.; four daughters, Mrs. Dick (Pamela) Brady of Chalmette, La., Mrs. Ward (Elizabeth) Dittmar of Freeport, Ill., Mrs. Greg (Velva) Boutin of Barke, Va., and Mrs. Rantfy (Penny) Brown of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Hubert Green of Kansas. She was employed as a licensed practical nurse for 31 years, working at -Kewanee Public Hospital , and St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria and the Queenwood Nursing Home in Morton, retiring in 1997. She had been a member of the First Christian Church in Kewanee.

KEWANEE — Abby M. Dana, 18, of Kewanee died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, April 22,2004 as the result of a single-vehicle accident in Kewanee.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 26 at Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Kewanee, the Rev. Jerry Rafalko officiating.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at
Schueneman-Iumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Memorials may be to an educational fund for her son Drake at Peoples .National Bank in Kewanee.
She was born June 30, 1985 in Kewanee, the daughter of Kirk and Jamee (McGee) Dana. She was educated in Kewanee schools, graduating with the Class of 2003 of Kewanee High School.
She is survived by a son, Drake C. Aldrich of Kewanee; her parents, of Kewanee; two sisters, Allison L. Dana of Kewanee and Ashley E. Dana of Peoria; and her maternal grandmother, Rose McGee, and paternal grandparents Varnum and Pat Dana, all of Kewanee. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Charles McGee.
She was employed at the Fast Stop store in Neponset. She was a member of Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church. She enjoyed snow skiing, motorcycling, swimming, and spending time with her son Drake.
Dale W. Bitting

KEWANEE — Dale W. Bitting, 88, of Kewanee, died at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. The Rev. Dale Kooi will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Windmpnt Park Fountain Fund.
He was born July 22, 1915 in Neponset, the son of Paris and Marjorie (Swearingen) Bitting. He graduated from Neponset High School. He married
Alice Creasey Feb. 14, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death Nov. 9,1994. A brother, Eldon Bitting, and sisters Evelyn Samara and Marjorie Morris also preceded him in death.
Surviving are a son, Robert (Isabel) Bitting of Tiskilwa; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Janet) Hagan of Lake Charles, La.; six grandchildren, David and Daniel Bitting, Kelley Millemon, Julie Williams, Jenny Benoit and Toby Hagan; 11 great-grandchildren, Nicholas; Lynnae and Anne-Gillian Bitting, David and Dustin Williams, Amelia and Leah Millemon, Joshua and Ashley Benoit and Justin and Tyler Hagan; two brothers, Lyman Bitting of Moline and Irven (Dottie) Bitting of Kewanee two sisters, Marian Wall of Kewanee and Shirley Ryan of South Bend, Ind.
He was a lifelong farmer in the Buda and Neponset area, retiring in 1978, when he moved to Kewanee.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kewanee.

Pearl M. Olson

KEWANEE - Pearl Mildred Olson, 89, of Kewanee, died at 12:45 a.m. Friday, April 23,2004 at Kewanee Care Home.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 26, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. The Rev. David Poe will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from noon to time of services Monday at the funeral-home. Memorials may be made to her St. Peter's Evangelical United Church of Christ in Kewanee, of which she was a member; or the Kewanee Senior Citizens Center.
She was born July 7, 1914 in Kewanee, the daughter of Michael and Pearl (Jenkin) Lamberty. She graduated from Kewanee High School. She married
Harold F. Olson in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1977. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Hagerty, in 2000 and a brother and sister in infancy.
Surviving are a niece, Marci Carlson of Kewanee, and a nephew, Mike Hagerty of Galesburg.
She had been employed at Kewanee Public Hospital. She was a member of Kewanee Senior Citizens. She enjoyed drawing and painting.
Wendell S. Montooth

KEWANEE — Wendell S. Montooth; 86, of Kewanee, died at 6:10 a.m. Monday April 26, 2004 at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church in Kewanee, the Rev. Drs. Kevin Siscoe and Judith Cook officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, rural Kewanee. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, of which he was a member and deacon; Elmira Presbyterian Church; the Alzheimer's Foundation; or Gideons International.
He was born Sept. 5, 1917 near Modena in Stark County, the son of Samuel W. and Elma J. (Osborn) Montooth. He graduated from Wethersfield High School.
He married
Jeanne McPherson Dec. 28, 1939 in Kewanee.
She survives, as do a daughter, Sharon Montooth of Elmira; five sons; Samuel (Donna) Montooth of Dahinda, Paul (Mary) Montooth of Kewanee, Sgt. Timothy Montooth stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, Gary (Lila) Montooth of Kewanee and Daniel (Bev) Montooth of Galva; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Winn of Toulon; a brother, Stuart (Mary Sue) Montooth of Earlville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, three sisters and three great-grandchildren preceded him in death.
He farmed for 25 years in Stark County.
He had worked as a Fuller Brush sa;esman and also sold for Moorman Feeds. He was a salesman in Illinois and state manager in Indiana for Successful Farming magazine.
He was a member of Gideons International and Bill Glass Prison Ministries until his health failed.
Ava L. Olsen

KEWANEE — Ava Leona Olsen, 90, of Long Grove 111. and formerly of Kewanee, died Monday, April 26, 2004 in Long Grove.
Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 29 at the Pleasant View cemetery in Kewanee, the Rev. Dale Kooi officiating. There will be no visitation. Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
She was born May 1, 1913 in Princeton, the daughter of Minor and Marie (Andris) VanScoyoc. She was educated in Anna-wan schools. She married
Maddra Thompson and he preceded her in death. She then married
Robert Olsen, who also preceded her in death. A brother, Delmar VanScoy-oc, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Bruce (Susan) Thompson of Long Grove; a daughter, Mrs Roger (Carol) Sager of. Olympia, Wash.; four gnmdchildren, Craig and Doug Beck of Seattle and Dawn Beveridge and Kim Terrell of Long Grove; and five great-grandchildren, Brandon and Travis Beck, Devin and Emily Beveridge and Kylie Ferrell.
She worked in bookkeeping at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron when she lived in Washington State. She enjoyed music, playing the piano and following the Dallas Cowboys.
