Sarah A. Mayhew, 93, of Portland Oregon and formerly of Kewanee, Il. died November 4, 2004 in Portland. She was born October 18, 1911 in Sparta Illinois . She married
Max Mayhew in 1935. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She is survived by 1 son Dan Mayhew, and 1 daughter Maxine Tuggle both of Portland. She lived in Kewanee for many years until moving to Portland in 1957. She enjoyed oil painting, writing, and singing in the church choir.
Private graveside services will be Monday November 15, 2004 at the Pleasant View cemetery. There is no visitation. Schueneman & Tumbleson funeral home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arrangements.
R. Sheridan Welch

R. Sheridan Welch, 85, of Kewanee died at 2:19 P.M. Friday, November 19, 2004 at Kewanee Hospital.
He was born October 10, 1919 in Kewanee the son of Thomas J. and Mabel E. (Bunton) Welch. He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1937, attended Stanford University and graduated from the University of Illinois Law School in 1946.
On October 3, 1942 he married
Margaret Kathryn Clegg in Chandlerville, Il. She survives along with two daughters Sherry “TD” Welch of Franklin, Tn and Anne E. Welch of Kewanee, one son Richard J. (Tawny) Welch of Sherman Oaks, Ca., five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and one brother John M. (Muriel) Welch, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Michael C. Welch and two brothers Robert G. and Philip B. Welch.
He served from 1942-1946 in the U.S. Navy in Naval Intelligence and in the Western Pacific.
He practiced law for 57 years in Kewanee, originally with his father, Thomas J. Welch and later with his son, Michael C. Welch.
He was a member of the Kewanee Library Board, Shares in Kewanee, the Kewanee Social Service Board, Kewanee Community Chest Board, the St. Francis Hospital Board, which he served as President and assisted with the closing of the Hospital, the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce, the Kewanee Jaycees, Midland County Club where he served as President in 1950-1951 and the Board of Directors of Sandy’s, Inc. He also served Sandy’s as its general counsel from its inception. He was a member and past president of the Henry County Bar Association.
He prepared the original petition for Blackhawk East Junior College, the Blackhawk East Charitable Foundation and assisted in acquiring the real estate for the Blackhawk East Campus.

Joyce E. Nosalik

Joyce E. Nosalik, 77, of Kewanee, Il. died at 4:21 P.M. Wednesday, November 23, 2004 at O.S. F. St Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Il.
She was born September 8, 1927 in Bradford, Il. the daughter of Oral and Gladys (Russell) Perkins. She graduated from Bradford High School and later beauty school. She owned and operated Joyce’s Beauty Shop in Bradford for 30 years prior to retirement.
She married
William Taylor in 1946 in Bradford. He died in 1969. She married
John J. “Yonko” Nosalik in 1981. He died in 2002. A brother Donald Perkins also preceded her in death.
Surviving is a son Randy Taylor of Silvis, Il. a daughter Karen (Mrs. Henrik) Sorensen of Plainsboro, N.J. and three grandchildren Amanda, Christian and Alexander Sorensen. Two brothers Jim Perkins of Orlando, Fl. And Bob Perkins of Niles, Mi. and two sisters Marian Stirk of Cassopolis, Mi. and Sandy Michael of Marquette Heights, Il.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kewanee. She enjoyed bowling and golfing and was involved in several women’s leagues in Kewanee.
Private family graveside services will be on Monday November 29, 2004 in Wethersfield cemetery. Rev. Chris Haake of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Hospital Hospice. The Schueneman and Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arrangements.
Tommie K. Seawright

Tommie Kenneth Seawright, 63, of Kewanee, Il. died at 5: 40 A.M. Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Kewanee Hospital. He was born April 9, 1941 in Sweetwater, Texas the son of Carl James and Beaulah Lee “Boots” (Hughes) Seawright.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1961 as a radio operator with tours of duty in Laos, Formosa, and Vietnam. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-1966 in airborne electronics in Europe during the Berlin Wall crisis, Vietnam, Panama, Dominican Republic and the Grenada Conflicts.
He attended the University of Texas, Mississippi and Houston and graduated from Texas A. & M. He was employed as an electrical and geophysical engineer involved in design and development in the Aerospace industry, at NASA, and with power plants ranging from coal to nuclear power.
He married
Patricia J. “Patsy” Holloway December 24, 1960 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She survives along with two daughters Wanda (Bill) Freer and Patricia “Trish” (Mrs. Patrick) McClure both of Kewanee and one son Carl (Brandi K.) Seawright II of McAllister, Ok.
Fifteen grandchildren and 1 great-grandson and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving is a brother Eddie Don (Lynda) Seawright of Midland, Tx.
His parents, infant twin daughters and a sister preceded him in death.
He was a Life Member of Kewanee VFW Post 8078 and served on the Veterans Council. He taught theory and code to amateur radio operators and was active in the Mars programs for phone calls of military personnel to their homes and loved ones. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday December 1, 2004 at the First Christian Church in Kewanee. Brian Giese and Dan Craig will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Inurnment will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 4, 2004 in Resthaven cemetery in Midland, Texas. There will be visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the family. Marilyn F. Hamilton

Marilyn Fisher Hamilton, 81, long time resident of Kewanee, IL, died at 2:30 P.M., Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004 at Kewanee Care Home.

Marilyn was born in Harrisburg, IL, Oct.15, 1923 to Carl & Ferris (Fearheiley) Fisher. She attended Kewanee Schools and was State Baton Twirling Champion in 1941. She was also a member of the Kewanee Black Nights Drum & Bugle Corps.
She attended Western Illinois University to become a teacher. Marilyn began her teaching career in Moon Country School, south of Annawan, IL. She later taught in Wethersfield School for 25 years as a kindergarten teacher. She married
Milton Hamilton February 15, 1944 in Camp Forrest, Tn.
He survives along with sons Rick (Diane) Hamilton of East Moline and Timothy (Angela) Hamilton of Kewanee. Grandchildren: Brandi (John) Elias, Brian (Robyn) Hamilton, Chad Hamilton, Cody Hamilton, & Dakotah Hamilton, great-grandchildren: Bryce & Sadie Elias, and sister Alice Krumtinger of Cambridge, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister June Bowman.
She spent her retirement with her husband, traveling between Kewanee in the summer and Texas in the winter. She had a passion for teaching little children the basics skills of life. She enjoyed crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.
Zeena P. Verdick

Zeena P. Verdick, 84, of the Illinois Veteran’s Home, Quincy and formerly of Kewanee died at 8:59 P.M. on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She was born November 22, 1920 in Kewanee the daughter of Paul and Naida (Ptasnik) Ptasnik. She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1939. She received her registered nursing degree from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Kewanee and graduated from the St. Francis Hospital School of Anesthesiology, Peoria, as a CRNA. She was employed at hospitals in Kewanee, Peoria, Princeton and Galesburg, prior to her retirement.
She was a veteran of WWII, serving as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army as a surgical nurse. She saw duty in the Pacific Theatre and was in the first group of nurses to arrive on Okinawa.
She married
Lawrence C. “Red” Verdick on March 6, 1943 in Kewanee. He survives along with two sons, Larry Verdick of Dubuque, Iowa and Charles (Cindy) Verdick of Morton, Il. Four grandchildren Christopher, Crystal, Brian and Kimberly and three great grandchildren Haley, Madelyn and Tyler.
Her parents, two brothers Walter and Arkaggy Ptasnik and two sisters Helen Daniels and Naida Blair and a granddaughter Lea Ann Verdick preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kewanee, a lifetime member of the Kewanee American Legion and a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, antiques and spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 8th, 2004 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Rev. Chris Haake of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee where the Kewanee Veterans Council will accord military honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
Mary Rogula

Mary Rogula, 84, of Kewanee, Il. died at 6:15 A.M. Sunday, December 5, 2004 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital.
She was born November 9, 1920 in Kewanee the daughter of Joseph Maxin and Alexandra (Cincerich) Ptasnik. She was reared and educated in Kewanee. She married
Mike Rogula April 23, 1937 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death October 24, 1982. Her parents, a son Mickey in 1956, three brothers Paul Mike and Walter and a sister Olga Wilt also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons Dennis (Sharon) Rogula and Steven (Karen) Rogula all of Kewanee and two daughters Georgia Conner (Lloyd Ewing) of Kewanee and Linda (Jim) Simmons of West Plaines, Missouri.
Ten grandchildren Troy, Mike, Joe, Jeff, Greg, Stephanie, Lance, James, Sara and Kristen. Fourteen great grandchildren and one brother Victor (Evelyn) Ptasnik of Kewanee.
She had been employed at the former Cassidy and Cory Grocery stores in Kewanee and later worked as a seamstress at Boss Glove Co. in Kewanee.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, yard work and spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, December 9, 2004 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. John Kuchta of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Joliet will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday, December 8th at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
