Shannon Michael Galli 26 of Kewanee died Wednesday December 8, 2004 at his home. He was born May 12, 1978 in Peoria son of Michael and Brenda (Arnold) Galli.
He attended Kewanee Schools and was a 1999 graduate of Kewanee High School, and also attended Abilities Plus in Kewanee.
He is survived by his parents of Kewanee, 4 brothers Jason, Jarrod, Kyle, and Brendan all at home. Also survived by his maternal grandparents Bill and Dorothy Arnold of Kewanee. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Victor and Patricia Galli and an uncle.
He enjoyed listening to music, spending time with his family, Sunday morning breakfast with his grandparents, and car rides with grandparents.
Funeral services will 1:30 pm Saturday December 11, 2004 at Schueneman & Tumbleson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from noon on Saturday until the time of the services. Burial will be in the Wethersfield cemetery, Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to Abilities Plus of Kewanee.

Ruth E. Baslis, 99, of Kewanee, Il. died at 7:45 A.M. Friday, December 10, 2004 at Kewanee Care Home. She was born October 19, 1905 in Browning, Il. the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Shultz) Douglas. She was reared and educated in Browning.
She married
John Baslis March 19, 1928 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death in 1959. Three brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
Surviving is a daughter Mary Anne (Mrs. Bill) Jones of Toulon, Il. Four grandchildren Ed Jones, Janet West, Betsy Horrie and Ginny Fletcher. Seven great grandchildren 2 step great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and four step great great grandchildren. One brother Charles (Winnie) Douglas of Quincy, Il.
She owned the Star Cleaner in Kewanee for many years and also worked as Cashier for Bracken’s and the Wanee Farm Restaurants prior to retirement.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kewanee. She was the score keeper for the Kewanee Ball Hawks Women’s Softball Team for many years. She enjoyed golf, bowling, and spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. K. Bruce Rushing will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
John P. Mikenas

John Peter Mikenas, 86, of Kewanee died at 11:30 P.M., December 15, 2004 at Kewanee Care Home. He was born December 7, 1918 in Kewanee the son of Anton and Catherine (Bagdonis) Mikenas. He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1936.
He married
Marjorie Bradley October 26, 1940 in Kewanee. She preceded him in death in 1987. His parents, seven brothers and sisters and one son Timothy also preceded him in death.
Surviving is a daughter Christine Yelm of Kewanee and five grandchildren Diane Johnson of Pekin, Il., John Frampton of Kewanee, Mark Frampton of Sumner, Il. Terri Jones of Kewanee and Shannon Frampton of Kewanee. One step grandson Nick Skaggs of Kewanee and seven great grandchildren Teresa, Kristina, Jacob, Jonathan, Kevin, Sierra and Cade.
He was employed at the former Kewanee Boiler Co. in Kewanee prior to his retirement.
He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in WWII. He was a member of the Kewanee VFW Post 8078, Flemish American Club, Kewanee Senior Citizens and was a former member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and was an avid bowler. He bowled for the Kirley and Sons and Senior Citizen team earning the nickname “Earthquake Mikenas”. In his younger days he was a Golden Gloves Boxer.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 18, 2004 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Virginia Nelson will officiate. Cremation will follow the services and private inurnment will be at a later date. The Kewanee Veterans Council will accord military honors at the funeral home following the services. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Senior Center.
Jack L. Huggins

Jack L. Huggins, 76, of Kewanee, Il died at 9:10 A.M. Friday, December 17, 2004 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee. He was born January 22, 1928 in Kewanee the son of Ralph E. and Thelma S. (Cherer) Huggins. He attended Wethersfield schools.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married
Donna J. Lambert May 28, 1947 in Kewanee. She survives along with two daughters Carol (Mrs. Mike) Nauman of San Jose’, Ca. and Cyndy Puskar of Trophy Club, Tx. One son Travis E. Huggins of Chicago, Il. Three grandchildren Libby, Meghan and Mallery and three great grandchildren. One sister Marilyn (Mrs. John) Pence of Kewanee and two brothers Donn Huggins of Moline, Il and Roger (Jean) Huggins of Kewanee. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a thirty year veteran of the Illinois State Police District 7, Rock Island, Il. He had served
as president of the Illinois State Troopers Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. He was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Kewanee. He had been a little league baseball coach in Kewanee and served as director of the league for three years. He enjoyed sports and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 20, 2004 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Brian Giese of the First Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, rural Kewanee. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Sunday,
December 19th at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church.
Dale E. Swanson

Dale E. Swanson, 82, of Kewanee, Il. died at 5:20 A.M. Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Courtyard Estates in Kewanee.
He was born August 31, 1922 in Milestone, Saskatchewan, Canada to Ernest and Grace (Carter) Swanson. His family moved to Kewanee in 1924. He married
Helen Anderson March 1, 1947 in Kewanee. She preceded him in death on August 30, 1996. His parents, three sisters and two brothers also preceded him in death.
Surviving is one sister, Maize (Mrs. Jim) Kramer of Prophetstown, Il. two sister-in-laws Mrs. Kay Lempke and Mrs. Louise Baker and a brother-in-law, Burton Anderson, several nieces and nephews.
Dale attended rural school and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1940. He attended Kewanee Business College until August of 1941. For four years he was employed in Chicago returning to Kewanee in 1945 where he became General Manager of Kewanee Farmer’s Cooperative Elevator, a position he held for 25 years. In 1970 he became the Director of Business at the East Campus of Black Hawk College where he served for 14 years retiring in 1984.
Dale was a 56 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kewanee where he served as treasurer of the church for many years, taught Sunday school for over 40 years, and was an elder and active in almost every aspect of the church’s life.
He was a member of Kewanee Rotary Club where he served as secretary for 15 years. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and named “Rotarian of the Year” in 1983. Dale compiled the History of the Rotary Club as part of the 75th Anniversary observance.
He served on the YMCA board as secretary and chairman of the house committee, The Salvation Army Advisory Board and for two years as its president, was a member of the Jaycees, Oddfellows, Elks club and the Flemish-American Club.
He was involved in the establishment of the Henry County Senior Citizens and the Kewanee center where he served as treasurer of the organizations in their early years. He also served on several boards and committees.
He served as President of the Trustees of the Whiting Home from 1978 to 1993 when he assumed the duties of secretary/treasurer.
He was instrumental in establishing the SHIP program of the Department of Insurance of the State of Illinois. This program was designed to assist senior citizens with their Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance and Medicaid billings. He served as coordinator of the SHIP program which was sponsored by the Kewanee Hospital. He was recognized by the State of Illinois, the American Association of Retired Persons, received the Ageless Achiever’s Award from the Western Illinois Association on Aging, the Kewanee Hospital and the Kewanee Star Courier for his work. In 1997 he was named to the Wall of Fame at Black Hawk College, East Campus for his contributions to the college and the community. He was named the 2003 Outstanding Citizen of Kewanee by the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, December 30, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church, Kewanee. Rev. Dr. James Breed will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, rural Kewanee. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services on Thursday.
Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, the Kewanee Hospital Foundation, the Dale and Helen Swanson Scholarship Fund at Blackhawk College, East Campus or the Kewanee Rotary Club.
Anna Belle “Ann” Kucukas

Anna Belle “Ann” Kucukas, 82, of Kewanee, Il. died at 11:46 A.M. at BroMenn Medical Center in Bloomington, Il.
She was born March 24, 1922 in Neponset, Il. the daughter of Joseph and Ida Belle (Croyle) Berry. She graduated from Neponset High School in 1940. She married
Vincent B. Kucukas July 10, 1944 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death June 26, 1998. Her parents, five sisters and four brothers also preceded her in death.
Surviving is a son David (Diane) Kucukas of Brimfield, Il. and one daughter Karen (Mrs. Mick) Hawkins of Lexington, Il. Five grandchildren Heidi, Christopher, Wendy, Melissa and Amy and seven great grandchildren.
Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Marge Haver of Olmsted Twp., Ohio, Mary (Mrs. John) Christian of Austin, Tx., Shirley (Mrs. Jack ) Kopp of Medford, Or. and Lois Cecil of Kewanee.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee.
She was a registered cosmetologist. She had worked for the Kewanee Park District and later was office manager for Dr.’s Lopez and Parungao in Kewanee prior to retirement.
Ann’s greatest joy was her family. The selfless love she bestowed on her dear husband, children and grandchildren will serve as an example to those she left behind and her memory will live forever in our hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 31, 2004 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee. Rev. Fredi Gomez Torres will officiate.
Burial will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 4-6 P.M. Thursday, December 30th at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee where the rosary will be recited at 5:45 P.M.
Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Hospital Foundation.

Mary L. Hardesty, 86, of 1001 West Euclid Avenue, Monmouth, died at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at Community Medical Center, Monmouth. A graveside committal of cremains will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August t9, 2003, in Monmouth cemetery with Rev. James Epperson officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in Monmouth cemetery. No calling hours or visitation by her family is being planned. Memorials have been established for either Community Hospices of America or the Western Illinois Animal Rescue.

Elizabeth D. "Liz" Lashly, 101, of Monmouth, died at 4:57 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2003, at Community Medical Center, where she resided. Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2003, in Monmouth cemetery with Rev. William Myers of Faith United Presbyterian Church officiating. No family visitation is planned. Memorials may be given to Faith United Presbyterian Church. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth, is in charge of arrangements.
