Alene 'Ione' Shinn

HAMILTON, Ill. Alene "Ione" Shinn, 76, of Hamilton, Ill., and a lifetime member of the Hamilton/Basco, Ill., area, died at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk.
She was born on June 12, 1921, in Basco, Bear Creek Township, the daughter of Louie and Hildred Mannssier Fleming.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mikki L. Jones of Pineville, La.; two sisters, Sharon Hunter of Hamilton and Mrs. Lyle (Sue) Snyder of Quincy, Ill.; two grandchildren, Aria Jones and C. Derreck Jones; a great-grandchild, Darius Jones; nieces; nephews; grandnieces; and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Merril Shinn on Jan. 18, 1998, and a brother.
She was retired from Dadant and Sons in Hamilton.
She attended the Hamilton United Methodist Church in Hamilton.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Lamporte Funeral Home, with Paul Smith officiating.
Burial will be in the Oakwood cemetery in Hamilton.
Visitation with family meeting friends is from 9 a.m. until the time of services at Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton.
A memorial has been established.
Airman Joseph K. Spangler
May 8, 1981 - May 28, 2000
CARTHAGE, Ill. - Airman Joseph K. Spangler, 19, of Carthage, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
He was born on May 8, 1981, the son of Arthur Dean and Sharon Kay (Grover) Spangler in Macomb, Ill.
Survivors include: his parents of Carthage; two brothers, Wesley Wayland of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Jacob Spangler of Belvidere, Ill.; two sisters, Tammy Thompson and her husband, Greg, of Blandinsville, Ill., and Sarah Spangler of Essex, Vermont; paternal grandmother, Margie Spangler of Fountain Green, Ill.; maternal grandfather, Marlin Burton of Colchester, Ill.; a niece, Kayla Thompson; three uncles; and five aunts.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Arthur Cameron Spangler and his maternal grandmother, Bonnie Burton.
He and his family moved to Carthage in 1994.
Mr. Spangler was an offensive and defensive lineman for the Carthage Blueboy Football State Championship team in 1999. He was also an active member of the high school band.
He graduated from Carthage High School in 1999.
Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force where he served in the security police. His basic training was completed at Lackland A.F. FB in San Antonio, Texas. He was on temporary duty in Kuwait from McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif.
Mr. Spangler was a member of the First Christian Church in Dallas City.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at the Carthage High School Gymnasium in Carthage, with Pastor Randy Nicolas officiating.
Burial will follow in the Spangler cemetery, rural Carthage.
Visitation is from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Neiser-Printy Funeral Home in Carthage and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Carthage High School Band or Sports Boosters.
Nellie Irene Saar
May 21, 1906 - April 24, 2003
HAMILTON, Ill. - Nellie Irene Saar, 96, died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Montebello Nursing Home in Hamilton, Ill.
She was born on May 21, 1906, near West Point, Ill., the daughter of Richard A. and Annabell Wells Barnett. She married
Wesley H. Burton on Jan. 24, 1924. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1969. They had a daughter, Wilma Belle Brunenn. She married
Carmen L. Saar on Oct. 1, 1949, at the "Little Brown Church in the Vale." He preceded her in death in June of 1998.
Survivors include: a daughter, Wilma Belle Brunenn of Sunset Home, Quincy, Ill.; a sister, Jessie Maag; four grandchildren, Lanny (Kay) Brunenn, Denny (Elaine) Brunenn, Donna (Dan) Eisenbeiss and Jeffrey (Lisa) Brunenn; nine great-grandchildren, Tony, Terry and Tad Brunenn, Eric and Doug Smith, Jen Foster, Denise Buckner, Ryan and Lucas Brunenn; seven great-great-grandchildren, Casey, Brittany, Colten, Janelle, Logan, Eric and Andrew.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Rissie Cook and twin brothers, Loyal and Royal Barnett.
She worked at the Warsaw Button Factory, Warsaw Dress Factory, Dadants in Hamilton and Irwin Phillips of Keokuk.
She was an avid dog lover.
Mrs. Saar was a member of the West Point Christian Church.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oakland cemetery, Warsaw, Ill., with Rev. Phoebe Blankenship officiating.
Loyd Thomas Beagles
Oct. 5, 1924 - Feb. 24, 2003
HAMILTON, Ill. - Loyd Thomas Beagles, 78, a resident of Hamilton, Ill., for the past 51 years, died at 7:38 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at his home in Hamilton.
He was born on Oct. 5, 1924, in Blossom, Texas, the son of James and Nanny Thomas Beagles. He married
Betty Taylor on July 7, 1944, in Inglewood, Calif. She survives.
Additional survivors include: a daughter, Judy (and husband, Charles) Bolton of Bowen, Ill.; five grandchildren, Tia (and Rich) Heppner of Geneseo, Ill., Eric Beagles of Norwalk, Ohio, Todd (and Jessica) Bolton of Bowen, Ill., Kyle Beagles of Hamilton and Alex (and Dawn) Beagles of Kenosha, Wis.; and five great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Beagles; a sister; and two brothers.
Mr. Beagles served in the United States Navy from 1941 to 1946.
He was a mechanic in Keokuk for many years. He also worked for the Hamilton Park District, serving as park superintendent.
He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching wrestling and bull riding.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton, with the Rev. Tom Mehaffy officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Hamilton.
Visitation is today at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial has been established.
John E. Monnier
March 29, 1920 - Aug. 4, 2001
BASCO, Ill. - John E. Monnier, 81, a lifelong resident and farmer from the Basco, Ill., area died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Montebello HealthCare Center, Hamilton, Ill.
He was born on March 29, 1920, in Warsaw, Ill., the son of Francis and Marie LeMaire Monnier. He married
Bonnye Gayle Steimer on Oct. 4, 1944, in Little Rock, Ark. She preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2000.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mary E. Reed and her husband, Gary P., of Quincy, Ill., Lou Ann Metternich and her husband, David, of Nauvoo, Ill. and Nancy J. Halpin of Easton, Pa.; six sons, Daniel W. and his wife, Kathy, of Arlington, Texas, John Robert and his wife, Pam, of Kingsport, Pa., Stephen F. of Wausau, Wis., David E. of Dallas City, Ill., Paul A. and his wife, Theresa, of Warsaw, Ill., and Mark G. and his wife, Becky, of Niota, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
He was a lifelong resident of the Basco community. He was educated in Warsaw schools and graduated with a degree in agriculture from the University of Illinois.
During World War II he was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., where he met his wife, who was serving in the Army nurses corp. After the war, he taught ag classes in night school to veterans returning home.
He served as Bear Creek Road Commissioner from 1981 to 1989 and for many years was an announcer for the Basco 4th of July celebration.
He always enjoyed and found time for his neighbors and friends and loved to fish.
Mr. Monnier was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, Ill.
Funeral prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage, Ill., with funeral mass at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Carthage, with Father J.A. Small officiating.
Burial will be in the Graham cemetery, near Denver, Ill.
Friends may call the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday with family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Catholic Church, West Point or the charity of the donor's choice.
John H. Wilson, Jr.
Sept. 3, 1919 - June 14, 2001
GALESBURG, Ill. - John H. Wilson, Jr., 81, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 6:21 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1919, in Keokuk, the son of Dr. J. Hiram and Irene Willets Wilson. He married
Miriam J. "Mimi" Harness on Sept. 29, 1944, in Iowa City. She survives.
Additional survivors include: a son, J. Mark Wilson and his wife, Marsha, of Galesburg; and a stepgrandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, J. Hiram Wilson III in 1989; a brother; and three sisters.
He graduated from Keokuk High School in 1938 and from Iowa State University in 1949.
Mr. Wilson was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran.
Mr. Wilson was assistant vice president and farm manager at the former First National Bank and Trust Company in Galesburg for 28 years. Mr. Wilson retired in 1985.
He was a member of Evening Lion's Club and Lake Bracken Country Club, both in Galesburg.
He had lived in Galesburg since 1957.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Galesburg.
Private family graveside memorial services of the cremated remains will be Monday, June 18, at Oakland cemetery, Keokuk.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Evening Lion's Club.
Larry Charles Marmion
Aug. 10, 1947 - Nov. 6, 2001
FERRIS, Ill. - Larry Charles Marmion, 54, of Ferris, Ill., died Tuesday morning, Nov. 6, 2001, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 10, 1947, in Keokuk, the son of Charles and Alma Colwell Marmion. He married
Judy Franzen on Sept. 16, 1977, in Carthage, Ill. She survives.
Additional survivors include: two daughters, Holly Davis of Jacksonville, Ill., and Dena Marmion of Ferris; and a son, Heath Marmion of Ferris.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He graduated from the Clark County High School in Kahoka, Mo., with the class of 1966.
Mr. Marmion was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam Conflict.
He had been employed at the Little Timber Confinement and most recently with the Millard Construction Company as a carpenter.
Mr. Marmion enjoyed fishing, camping and woodworking. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Marion attended the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage, Ill.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Greg Busboom officiating.
Burial with military rites will be in the Keokuk National cemetery.
Visitation is after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
