Samuel Harvey Canida II

HAMILTON, Ill. - Samuel Harvey Canida II, 59, of Hamilton, Ill., formerly of Keokuk, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1949, in Keokuk, the son of John Edward and Gertrude Crabtree Canida.
He married
Terry Busey in February 1976.
He grew up in Keokuk and graduated from Keokuk High School in 1967 and later from Indian Hills Community College. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a computer technician and spent most of his adult life in California and Texas. He operated a karate school in Keokuk and studied under nationally known teachers, including Tadashi Yamashita, from whom he received his Fourth Degree Black Belt. His other passion was his Harley Davidson with which he enjoyed participating in poker runs.
Survivors include: his mother, Gertrude Canida of Keokuk; a son, Samuel Harvey “Tracey” Canida III, of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Richard Canida and his wife, Beth, of Hubert, N.C.; a sister, Paulette Mitchell and her husband, Clyde, of Keokuk; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at DeJong's Funeral Home, Keokuk, with Pastor Clegguart Mitchell officiating.
Burial with full military rites will be in Keokuk National cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 2 to 4 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice.

HAMILTON, Ill. - Charles Dill, 82, of Hamilton, Ill., died Thursday, April 9, 2009, in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill.

Bonnie J. Gibson
Aug. 19, 1927 - April 12, 2009
HAMILTON, Ill. - Bonnie J. Gibson, 81, of Hamilton, Ill., died peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill., of heart failure.
She was born on Aug. 19, 1927, in Keokuk, the daughter of Joseph S. and Pansy V. Howell.
Bonnie had been a resident of Hamilton since 1958. She was employed at the Iowa Ammunition Plant in Middletown for approximately 40 years before her retirement in 1989.
She enjoyed doing word seek puzzles, feeding her birds and the company of her dog, Tanner James.
Bonnie was a devoted mother and grandmother and helped raise her four grandchildren.
Survivors include: her daughter, Karen Taylor and her husband, Derryl “Dusty,” of Hamilton; four grandchildren, Kim Ludwick and her husband, Darrell, of rural Canton, Mo., Kevin Taylor, Kris Taylor and his wife, Sheri, of Keokuk and Troy Davis of Hamilton; five great-grandchildren, Katie Obreque, Morgan Taylor, Bobby Porter, B.J. Harriman and Jimmy Harriman; two great-great-grandchildren, Ahmi and Adli Obreque; two brothers, Edward Coop and his wife, Rosemary, of Fernando Beach, Fla., and Joseph Coop and his wife, Laurie, of The Villages, Fla.; a sister, Marilyn Jones and her husband, Ron, of Dubuque; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marjorie Jean Lindner; a brother, Richard Coop; and a sister, Virginia Berry.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, with the Rev. Monsignor Greg Ketchum officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Hamilton.
Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to PAWS Animal Shelter in Fort Madison or Blessing Hospital Intensive Care Unit in Quincy.
James J. Carr
Aug. 13, 1936 - April 10. 2009
QUINCY, Ill. - James J. Carr, 72, of Quincy, Ill., formerly of Keokuk, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at Sycamore Healthcare in Quincy.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1936, in Montrose, the son of Earnest C. and Lillian L. Bertsch Carr.
He graduated from Montrose High School in 1955.
He had been employed at several auto parts stores in the area for more than 20 years, retiring in 1984.
He enjoyed refinishing antiques. His specialty was restoring Aladdin oil lamps.
He also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include: three sons, Tony Carr of Keokuk, Todd Carr of Des Moines and Terry Carr and his wife, Karen, of Ankeny; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lila Dockum and her husband, Oren, of Loveland, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy, Larry Eugene Carr.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, with Brother Bill Hauser officiating.
Burial will be in Hickory Grove cemetery, rural Keokuk.
Visitation is today at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Charles Clinton Dill
Jan. 5, 1926 - April 9, 2009
HAMILTON, Ill. - Charles Clinton Dill, 83, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 6:48 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009, in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill.
He was born on Jan. 5, 1926, in Elvaston, Ill., the son of Harry and Pauline (Morris) Dill.
He graduated from Hamilton High School.
He married
Ruby Cleveland on Nov. 25, 1950, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Charles loved riding around visiting people and also loved his dog, Patches and his cat, Tuffy.
He was a 32 degree Mason in the Blackhawk Lodge.
He was a former chief of police in Hamilton. He was retired from St. Louis Diecasting.
Survivors include: seven children, Mike (Joanne) Dill of Croton, Mickey (Sue McKay) Dill of Hamilton, Gary (Vickie) Dill of Hamilton, Myra (Steve) Boley of Warsaw, Ill., Tad Dill of Hamilton, Ellen (Randy) Bruns of Lewistown, Mo., and Shawn (David Markell) Dill of Argyle; his companion, Alice Green of Hamilton; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maxine Dill Dulaney; and a brother, LaVern Dill.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Oakwood cemetery, Hamilton.
Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Printy Funeral Home, Carthage, Ill. A Masonic service will be at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.

Florence L. Marzolf
June 1, 1920 - April 10, 2009
NAUVOO, Ill. - Florence L. Marzolf, 88, of Nauvoo, Ill., died at 9:14 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, in Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, Ill.
She was born on June 1, 1920, in Sonora Township, Ill., the daughter of Clarence and Ruth Huntley Newton.
She married
Edward Carl “Bud” Marzolf on June 25, 1953. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1996.
Survivors include: a daughter, Cheryl L. Marzolf of Peoria; a son, Harold L. (Sharee) Marzolf of Monroe, Wis.; and two grandchildren, Carl Marzolf of Milwaukee, Wis., and Curt Marzolf of Monroe.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; twin children, Michael R. and Marietta Ruth Marzolf, who died at birth; and a sister, Marjorie Kyburz.
She graduated from Oaden Elementary School and Nauvoo High School.
She was an active member of the Nauvoo Presbyterian Church and a member of the Nauvoo Presbyterian Women's Group. She also was a member of the Nauvoo Unit of Home Extension and a hobby club she formed with her friends.
She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, gardening, traveling and dining out with her friends and family. Florence and her husband farmed in the Nauvoo area, raising grain, fruit and livestock.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home, Nauvoo, with Mark Anderson officiating.
Burial will be in the Nauvoo City cemetery.
Visitation is after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials have been established for the Nauvoo Presbyterian Church or Hancock County Cancer Society.

Robert Clark
April 1, 1911 - April 14, 2009
CARTHAGE, Ill. - Robert Clark, 98, of Carthage, Ill., died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in Hancock County Nursing Home, Carthage.
He was born on April 1, 1911, in Denver, Ill., the son of William and Flora (Akers) Clark.
He married
Wilma Daily on July 22, 1939, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.
Additional survivors include: son, Jeffrey (Karen) Clark of Carthage; a brother, Ray (Allene) Clark of Keokuk; two grandchildren, Steven (Darla) Clark of Dixon, Ill., and Teri Vance of Carthage; two great-grandsons, Robert “Conor” and John “Tyler” Clark of Dixon; a great-granddaughter, Chauntel Vance of Carthage; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Glen.
He enjoyed reading and watching sports on television. His passion was flying. He received his flight training at the Macomb Airport and flew around locally to build up his flight time until he received his license. Afterwards, he went to Peoria Flying Service as a flight instructor and from there to the Army Contract Flight School in Tulsa, Okla. He served two years there in which time he joined the Navy as a Lieutenant and remained there for the duration of World War II.
After the war he moved back to Denver, where he farmed. With his wife, he moved to a farm east of Denver where they continued to farm until he retired. Then he and his wife moved to New Port Richey, Fla., where they lived for several years. They decided to come back home and moved to Carthage where he lived until he passed away.
He was a member of the Denver Christian Church.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Moss Ridge cemetery, Carthage.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Printy Funeral Home, Carthage, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday before the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Memorial Hospital Building Fund or Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.
