HAMILTON, Ill. - Catherine Elizabeth “Katie” Coney, 70, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 2:31 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born on June 29, 1938, on the family farm in St. Patrick, Mo., a daughter of Basil and Rachel Ellison Fryer.
She married
William Granville Coney Jr. on Aug. 24, 1957, in St. Patrick. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2006.
Survivors include: two daughters, Beverly Ann Coney of Falls Church, Va., and Dena (Steve) Mast of Hamilton; two granddaughters, Emily Catherine Mast and Andrea Elizabeth Mast, both of Hamilton; four siblings, Marianna (Joe) Gredell of Keokuk, Basil “Junior” (Ann) Fryer of Keokuk, Nancy (James) Boatman of Wayland, Mo., and Joseph Fryer of Canton, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son and infant daughter; and a daughter, Tina Coney on Dec. 8, 2007.
She graduated from St. Patrick High School.
She was of the Catholic faith. She owned and operated Catherine's Coiffures in Hamilton for many years.
Katie enjoyed gardening and attending her granddaughters’ school and sporting events. She especially loved cheering on the West Hancock Lady Titans.
Visitation is after 2 p.m. Friday at Lamporte - St.Clair Funeral Home, Hamilton, with family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Liberty cemetery, Williamstown, Mo., with the Rev. Ernest Dietrich officiating.
Memorials have been established for Lady Titans Basketball.

NIOTA, Ill. - Edward Lewis “Ed” Horton, 74, of Niota, Ill., died at 11:05 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009, in Fort Madison Community Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 30, 1934, in Fort Madison, the son of Lloyd and Grace Lamb Horton.
He married
Carmelitta “Carm” Baker on Sept. 5, 1955, in Creston. She survives in Niota.
Additional survivors include: four sons, Philip Horton of Dallas, Texas, James (Lori) Horton of McKinney, Texas, Paul Horton of Rhome, Texas, and Matthew (Angela) Horton of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Martha Frank of Des Moines, Carol Horton of Burlington and Sarah (David) Miller of Oswego, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Colleen Frank, Shay Altshue, Zerron Horton, Christopher Frank, Karl Frank, Kevin Frank, Kathryn Frank, Lexis Miller, Beau Miller, Brooklyn Horton, James Horton and Dallas Miller; a sister, Janice Baxter, Palmyra, Mo.; two brothers, Larry (Sig) Horton of Burlington, Ky., and Joe (Sally) Horton of Pullman, Wash.; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Grace (Lamb) Horton, and a brother-in-law, Richard Baxter.
Ed was a patient, loving responsible, caring, understanding and attentive husband and father. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping, automobiles, attending car races highlighted by the Grand Prix in England and enjoying jazz music. He was involved in many activities, including Junior Achievement advisor, Cub Scout sponsor, coach of children sports, Town Clerk of Pontoosuc Township, Hamilton VFW member and Elks member in San Angelo, Texas.
He attended Oak Grove Country School and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1952. He attended Southeastern Community College in Burlington.
His career was a tele-communications engineer, working for various companies such as Northwestern Bell, Western Electric, Housley Communications, FirsTel and Contel which took him across the United States as well as Canada and England. He spent two years in the United States Army stationed in Alaska and at one point spent seven years farming. Ed was a proud supporter of his childrens' activities. He enjoyed spending time with his family which often included playing cards.
Visitation is after 2 p.m. today at Lamporte - St.Clair Funeral Home, Nauvoo, Ill., with family meeting friends between 6 and 8 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Nauvoo,`` with Father Tony Trosley as celebrant.
Burial will be in Nauvoo City cemetery with a flag presentation at the graveside.
Memorials have been established.

WARSAW, Ill. - Alexander Nagy, 82, of Warsaw, Ill., died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 27, 1926, in Hungary, the son of Imre and Elisabeth Bozsa Nagy.
He married
Elisabeth Eordogh on May 10, 1953, in Keokuk. She survives in Warsaw.
Additional survivors include: two sons, Gabe and Kathy (Stump) Nagy of Warsaw and Paul and Cindy (Hieatt) Nagy of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandsons and great-grandson, Gabriel and Annette (Bangert) Nagy, and their son, Sawyer of Warsaw, Alex Nagy of Warsaw and Paul and Julie “Kylie” (Sieme) Nagy of Tucson; a granddaughter, Christine Nagy of Tucson; a sister, Yulianna Nagy of Budapest, Hungary; and a sister-in-law, Vilma Eordogh of Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Imre and Gabor.
He worked for The Hubinger Company of Keokuk for 35 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Graveside memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Oakland cemetery, Warsaw.
The family will meet with friends following the graveside service in the banquet room of The Warsaw Brewery.

HAMILTON, Ill. - Laura Bernice Stoneking, 85, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 2:55 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, in River Hills Village, Keokuk.
She was born on May 15, 1923, in Warsaw, Ill., the daughter of Virgil and Imogene Knight Symmonds.
She married
Donald B. Stoneking on Jan. 20, 1941, in New London, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Survivors include: three sons, Donald B. (Joyce) Stoneking of Basco, Ill., Ronald V. (Kittie) Stoneking of Burlington and Arlo C. Stoneking of Hamilton; a foster son, Richard (LaVonne) Bourne of Quincy, Ill.; three sisters, Mary Kratzer of Phoenix, Ariz.; Ruth Evenchai of Keokuk and Julia Greer, also of Keokuk; six grandchildren, Kevin Stoneking, Renee Hughes, Cheryl Carter, Kent Bourne, John Bourne and Paul Bourne; seven great-grandchildren, Shawn, Brynna, George, Brennen, Alan, Amanda and Jazmin; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, Caitlyn.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Marion Stoneking (1971); her parents, Virgil Symmonds and Imogene Holecek; two sisters, Merle Rose and Hazel Huffman; and three brothers, Jim, Bill and Jerry Symmonds.
She was employed as a clerk for Woolworths and Carson, Pirie, Scott in Quincy, and K-Mart in Springfield and Keokuk. Most recently she worked for Casey's in Carthage.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home in Hamilton.
Burial will be in Oakland cemetery, Warsaw.
Visitation is after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home, Hamilton, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

WARSAW, Ill. - Julia Meyer, 98, of Warsaw, Ill., died at 7:40 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, in Lexington Square, Keokuk.
She was born on Nov. 9, 1910, in Kewanee, Ill., daughter of Dominick and Malvina Skipperitus Chilausky.
She married
Elmer Meyer on Aug. 8, 1934, in Kewanee. He preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1990.
Survivors include: nieces and nephews, Sue (Richard) Koehler of Warsaw, Ed (Rosalee) Meyer of Warsaw and Steve Meyer, also of Warsaw; Mary Jane Amundson of Honolulu, Hawaii Ron (Donna) Nichols of Omaha, Neb., JoAnn Sikora of Plattsmouth, Neb., Rita (Keith) Ehley of East Peoria, Ill., Rich (Lore) Chilausky of Durham, N.C., Bill (Bett) Wallace of South Range, Wis., Alan (Jude) Wallace of Vashon Island, Wash., and Rose (Rob) Miller of Galva, Ill.; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Wallace; two brothers, Paul and John Chilausky; and several nieces and nephews.
She finished school in a one-room rural school house. She and her husband farmed in the Warsaw Bottoms for many years. While on the farm, Julia enjoyed tending her large flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms and taking walks in the woods. She loved the many pets she had throughout the years.
In later years, she and her husband enjoyed traveling, especially with the Flying Farmers. She lived on the farm in the Warsaw Bottoms until the Flood of 1993 when she moved to Warsaw with her dog, Missy.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw and the Altar and Rosary Society. She also was a member of Rocky Run Ladies Aid, American Legion Auxiliary and Hancock County Farm Bureau.
Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home, Warsaw.
A mass of Christian burial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw, with Father Michael Menner as celebrant.
Burial will be in Oakland cemetery,Warsaw.
Memorials have been established for the Warsaw Ambulance Service or the donor's choice.
Robert ‘Bob’ Charles Harnetiaux

HAMILTON, Ill. -- Robert “Bob” Charles Harnetiaux, 82, of Hamilton, Ill., died Sunday, May 24, 2009, in Kansas City, Mo.
He was born on Sept. 11, 1926, in Beardstown, Ill., the son of Jesse and Goldy Harnetiaux.
After completing high school, he enlisted in the Army and served in World War II. Upon returning to the states, Bob began carpentry and farm work. In 1956, he purchased the family house and farm in Hamilton where he continued to farm these many years.
Bob loved farming and growing sweet corn and other garden vegetables, which he sold at various farmer’s markets in the community. He enjoyed hunting, boating and camping with friends.
For 24 years, he and his wife, Mary, would travel to Texas for the winter months in their RV and made great friends with many other “winter Texans.”
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Harnetiaux; three daughters, Deana Fisher of Overland Park, Kan., Julie Surratt of St. Peters, Mo., and Nancy Lischer of Leawood, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Natalie West of Dallas, Texas; Melissa Clark, Craig Fisher and Tyler Kettering, all of Overland Park, Alec and Tori Surratt, both of St. Peters, and Jack, Olivia and Paige Lischer, all of Leawood; two brothers, Leon Harnetiaux of Hamilton and Jim Harnetiaux of Carthage, Ill.; three sisters, Marie Carpenter of Roseville, Calif., Dorothy Sparrow of Warsaw, Ill., and Shirley Coe of Arlington, Va.; nine nephews; a niece; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; mother; first wife, Betty; and a daughter, Debra.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at First Christian Church, Hamilton, followed by burial in Oakwood cemetery, Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Harnetiaux; three daughters, Deana Fisher of Overland Park, Kan., Julie Surratt of St. Peters, Mo., and Nancy Lischer of Leawood, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Natalie West of Dallas, Texas; Melissa Clark, Craig Fisher and Tyler Kettering, all of Overland Park, Alec and Tori Surratt, both of St. Peters, and Jack, Olivia and Paige Lischer, all of Leawood; two brothers, Leon Harnetiaux of Hamilton and Jim Harnetiaux of Carthage, Ill.; three sisters, Marie Carpenter of Roseville, Calif., Dorothy Sparrow of Warsaw, Ill., and Shirley Coe of Arlington, Va.; nine nephews; a niece; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; mother; first wife, Betty; and a daughter, Debra.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at First Christian Church, Hamilton, followed by burial in Oakwood cemetery, Hamilton.
