Loren "Bud" Scheuermann
CARTHAGE, Ill. – Loren Ray “Bud” Scheuermann, 90, of Carthage, Ill., passed away at 9:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at his residence at Hickory Grove Apartments in Carthage.
Bud was born on Jan. 27, 1927, in Bentley, Ill., the son of Louis and Mary (Hardy) Scheuermann.
He attended Carthage High School, graduating in 1945.
He served in the U.S. Army as a medical technician from 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1947. After service, he worked as a lifelong carpenter in construction. Bud enjoyed taxidermy, fishing and playing cards. He was a member of the V.F.W., Carthage Eagles Club and MENSA.
Bud is survived by three sisters, Ruth (Charles) Shipman of Rocky Ford, Colo., Rosemary (Howard) Meinkow of Carol Stream, Ill., Patricia Scheuermann of Carthage; and a brother, Richard (Jeanette) Scheuermann of El Paso, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Nellie Campbell and Doris Buss; and two brothers, Marvin and Kenneth Scheuermann.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage, with burial with military rites to follow in Moss Ridge cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Printy Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to the Carthage Public Library.

Darell 'Jack' Koeber Jr.
WARSAW, Ill. – Darell W. “Jack” Koeber Jr., 76, of Warsaw, Ill., passed away at 10:38 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at the Montebello HeathCare Center in Hamilton, Ill.
He was born on Aug. 26, 1940, in Keokuk, a son of Darrel W. and Marge Mitz Koeber.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey (Julie) Koeber of Warsaw, Ill., and Jay Koeber of Keokuk; seven grandchildren, Derrick, Bronson (Adrianne), Brooksany Koeber, Brenna, Nathan, Cassidy and Gracie Koeber; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Laurel, Jamie and Tenley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack graduated from Warsaw High School in Warsaw.
He worked for Champion Int., Smurfit-Stone and Stone Container. Jack also worked for O’Reilly Auto Parts for eight years. He was of the Christian faith. Jack was a member of the Warsaw Riverfront Community. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, with family meeting friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home in Warsaw.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Larry Mulch officiating. Inurnment will follow in Oakland cemetery in Warsaw.

CARTHAGE, Ill. – Nathan R. Fink, 42, of Carthage, Ill., passed away at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Lawrence "Pete" Henson
CANTON, Mo. – Lawrence A. “Pete” Henson, 84, of Canton, Mo., formerly of Adrian, Ill., passed away at 9:03 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Pete was born April 17, 1933, the son of Euke E. and Eula A. (Taylor) Henson in Allen County, Ky.
He attended Colusa High School, graduating in 1952.
On July 18, 1953, he was united in marriage to Ruth Lovell in Colusa. She preceded him in death in 2016.
He served in the U. S. Army, receiving his honorable discharge in 1955.
Pete was a member of Steel Workers Local 444 and Burnside, Ill., Christian Church.
Pete is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ward of Carthage, Ill., and Sharon K. (Kent) Spory of Wayland, Mo.; grandchildren, David (Barbara) Hoenig, Jennifer (Jason) Wenke, Stacy (Chad) Hoffman, Eric (Sarah) Lenz and Karyn Spory; great-grandchildren, Shannon and Cheyann Hoenig, Abigail, Alexis and Arynn Hoffman, Jenna, Lucas and Kayla Wenke, Natalie and Zachary Lenz, Greg (Misty) Irvin, Laken Irvin and Jacob Parsons; seven great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Leroy (Patty) Henson of Nauvoo, Ill., Harold (Vicky) Henson of Hamilton, Ill., Larry Henson of St. Louis and Joe Henson of Fort Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; stepmother, Retta Henson; stepfather, Carl Cook; son-in-law, Dave Ward; a brother, Howard Henson; two sisters, Mary Evelyn Henson and Geneva Boyer; and a stepsister, Shirley Stephens.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage, with burial with military rites to follow in Thornber cemetery near Powellton, Ill.
Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.

Betty Lou Boyer
CARTHAGE, Ill. – Betty Lou Boyer, 93, of Carthage, Ill., passed away at 8:32 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2017, at her home in Carthage.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Ferris Christian Church in Ferris, Ill., with burial to follow in Moss Ridge cemetery in Carthage.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
Mary Hempen, 74, Quincy, Ill.
QUINCY, Ill. – Mary Ann Hempen, 74, of Quincy, Ill., died at 4:07 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She was born on July 27, 1942, in Quincy, a daughter of Fred and Bernice Meyersick Hempen.
Mary was an active member at Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ.
Mary loved spending time with family and friends. She was always there for anyone who needed her help.
Survivors include two nieces, Gretchen (Ken) Cook of Bozeman, Mont., and Moira Tritschler of Guelph, Canada; two nephews, Martin (Kara) Tritschler of Denver, Colo.; and Andrew Tritschler of Guelph; six first cousins, Joycelyn (Steve) Haage of Keokuk, IA, Galen (Connie) Wollbrink of Carthage, Ill., Darian Wollbrink of West Point, Ill., Al (Marilyn) Hempen of Keokuk, Bill (Evelyn) Hempen of Elvaston, Ill., and Clarice Ellison of Keokuk; and a brother-in-law, Tom Tritschler of Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Annabelle Tritschler; and seven first cousins, Robert Wright, Herbert Wright, James Wright, Gerald Wright, Eva Nelson, Hilda Mae Dienst and Frederick Wright.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Disseler officiating. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount cemetery.

Judy Eckard
HAMILTON, Ill. – Judy Ann Starr Eckard, 77, of Hamilton, Ill., died Sunday, July 9, 2017, at the Countryview Care Center in Macomb, Ill.
She was born on April 18, 1940, in Keokuk, the daughter of Tom and Hilda Boyet Orth.
She graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1958.
She married
Richard Starr in 1960 and they later divorced. On May 1, 1984, Judy was united in marriage to John Eckard in Las Vegas, Nev. He survives.
She also is survived by three sons, Donald Starr (Debra) of Warsaw, Ill., Tony Starr (Terri) of Macomb and Terry Starr (Carol) of Oquawka, Ill.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry Orth of Texas.
She was preceded by her father, Tom Orth; her mother, Hilda Orth Miller; a sister, Tony Ransdall; and two brothers in infancy.
She had been employed at Sheller/BTR for a total of 37 years, retiring in 1990.
In her younger years, she was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Keokuk.
She loved to garden and grew beautiful flowers in her yard every season. She and her husband enjoyed many years of traveling and had traveled the entire U.S. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Sudoku, and she was very good at solving the puzzles. Her faithful dog, Duster, had a very special place in her heart.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk.
Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

CARTHAGE, Ill. – J. Graydon Bilderback, 97, of Carthage, Ill., passed away at 2:46 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

Lewis Hunter
NAUVOO, Ill. – Lewis William Hunter, 60, of Nauvoo, Ill., passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017, at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
He was born Oct. 5, 1956, in Evergreen Park, Ill., the son of Robert and Lois Jane Lewis Hunter.
On Nov. 20, 1974, he was united in marriage to Pamela Joyce Lewis in Lemont, Ill. She survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Mercianne Finch of Keokuk, Lauriebeth Hunter (Bob Page) of Keokuk, Jenna-lyn Shuman (Micheal) of Keokuk and Beckajoyce Hunter of Iowa City; a son, Brent Lewis Hunter of Kansas City, Mo.; his mother, Lois Jane Hunter Schnakenberg of Sedalia, Mo.; seven grandchildren, McKenna Jade Hunter, Hunter Michael Finch, Meechele Kayle Page, Mason Robert Lewis Page, Hailey Anne Finch, Brady Micheal Shuman and Alexis Beulah-Rose Shuman; a brother, Kevin Robert Hunter (Wendy) of Texas; a sister, Shirley Jane Jensen (Richard) of Ozawkie, Kan.; two nieces, Jessica Whitston (Brian) and Christina Hunter; and a nephew, Noah Hunter (Katie).
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert William Hunter; a brother, George Oliver; and his stepfather, Roy Schnakenberg.
Lewis graduated from Lemont Township High School.
He had been employed by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a conductor for 43 years, until his retirement in November 2016.
Lewis was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Brotherhood of Railway Conductors Labor Union.
Lewis loved to travel, collect model trains and baseball cards, attend plays and go fishing. He also loved to listen to piano music. He enjoyed his home in Nauvoo and often spent his Sundays at home reading a book or his Bible. Lewis loved life and was always up for a new adventure. He had his favorite quotes that he said frequently to his family, “What kind of answer is that?” and “You were the twinkle in my eye before you were even born” and “What the Sam Hill is this?” Lewis was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan and Chicago Bears football fan. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement in Texas and South Padre Island, although he did miss the beautiful sunsets from his home in Nauvoo.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with Pastor Jay Zetterlund officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be at 6:30 p.m.
