J. Graydon Bilderback
CARTHAGE, Ill. – J. Graydon Bilderback, 97, of Carthage, Ill., passed away at 2:46 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Graydon was born to Quintin and Esther Bilderback on May 29, 1920, in St. Francis Hospital in Macomb, Ill. – quite unusual for one of his age as most were born in the homes at that time. He grew up in the Huntsville/Augusta area and graduated from Augusta High School in 1939.
In 1940, he moved to Carthage and began a trucking business with his father and two brothers. He later became sole owner of Bilderback Truck Service, retiring from the business in 1991. After retiring from his business, Graydon drove a van for Hancock County Mental Health for 10 years. Graydon prided himself in driving over a million miles.
Graydon was a longtime member of Carthage Fire Department, which he joined in 1958 and retired from in 1977, and where he had served as vice president. He was a 70-year member of Hancock County Masonic Lodge No. 20 A.F.&A.M., a 50-year member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, and a 50-year member of the Quincy Consistory, A.A.S.R. He also was president of the Carthage Jaycees in 1951. Graydon enjoyed golfing, bowling and dancing.
Graydon married
Frances Ewell on Aug. 8, 1949. She preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 1996. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ivan and Don; his nephew, Bill Bilderback; and his niece, Donna Flynn.
Graydon is survived by two nephews, Barry (Kathy) Bilderback of Wenatchee, Wash., and Bryant (Pam) Bilderback of Mount Pleasant; his niece, Sue (Jim) Churchill of Roseville; his sister-in-law, Laura Bilderback of Mount Pleasant; and many great-nephews and great-nieces. He also is survived by his loving companion of 21 years, Marilyn Nelson, and her family, Lori and Mike Jarrett, Cal and Elle Jarrett, Dave and Liz Nelson, Jack and Grace Nelson and Lisa and Frank Batchelder. Graydon also was very close to Marilyn’s mother, Carmilee Larson, and her sister, Janet Fleming, and family.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. A luncheon will directly follow the service, with burial at 2:30 p.m. in Woodlawn cemetery in Augusta, Ill.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. A Masonic service will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, directly following the visitation.
Memorials may be directed to Woodlawn cemetery in Augusta or the donor’s choice.

Cora Frazer, 87, Warsaw, Ill.
WARSAW, Ill. – Cora J. Frazer, 87, of Warsaw, Ill., passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Montebello HealthCare Center in Hamilton, Ill.
Cora was born on Sept. 3, 1929, in Warsaw, the daughter of Charley and Anna Larsen Reuter.
On April 4, 1948, she was united in marriage to Wilbur F. Frazer in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 2016.
A lifelong resident of Warsaw and a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Warsaw, Cora was deeply rooted in Hancock County. She worked at the People’s Store in Warsaw for more than 20 years, and later worked as a home health aide for 10 years. Cora was very active in her church, and enjoyed teaching children about God by serving as a Sunday school teacher and children’s choir director. She was known as “Mom” by many of her daughter’s friends, and always made sleep-overs at her house a treat. Cora was a talented seamstress, often making dresses and skirts for the girls and their friends. She enjoyed being outside gardening and watching her flowers grow, and she shared her love of nature by becoming a Girl Scout troop leader. Cora took great joy in entertaining her friends and family, and she was known for her cooking, especially her “award-winning pie.” Most of all, Cora loved her family, especially her seven lovely grandchildren.
Cora is survived by her three daughters, Frances (Gerald) Dommerman of Keokuk, Carol (Robert) Hurt of Basco, Ill., and Diane (Richard) Hauk of Aurora, Ill.; seven lovely grandchildren, Tonya Stamper, Eric (Mae Ellen) Hauk, Carrie Glover, Tracy (Eric) Climer, Shane (Kasey) Speed, Tiffany (Kenneth) Diers and Crystal (Abe) Huls; 12 great-grandchildren, Ashley (Colten Goode), Arianna and Aaron Stamper, Trenton and Alyssa Hauk, Dylan Glover, Jordyn and Jadyn Climer, Gabriel Speed, Landon and Bralen Diers, and Zander Huls; a great-great grandchild, Carter Hagan; her brother, Carl Reuter of Freeport; her sister, Margaret Reuter of Warsaw; her sister-in-law, Alberta Asher of Quincy, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Cora was preceded in death by two sisters, Luella Nagel and Charlotte Reuter; and a brother, Paul Reuter.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw, with burial to follow in Oakland cemetery in Warsaw.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to H.U.G.S. in Hancock County or Lee County Hospice.

Grace Buckert, 84, Warsaw, Ill.
WARSAW, Ill. – Grace A. Buckert, 84, a resident of Keokuk when she was younger, and a longtime resident of Warsaw, Ill., passed away at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Montrose Health Center.
She was born on July 24, 1932, in Keokuk, a daughter of Oliver B. and Marie Ramnous Bawden.
She married
Robert E. Buckert on June 13, 1972, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Keokuk. He preceded her in death on June 9, 2000.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Laura Lea Buckert; two stepsons, Robert W. (Diana) Buckert and Craig W. (Cathy) Buckert; and four grandchildren, all of Fresno, Calif.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Kyle (Barbara) Bawden of Hamilton, Ill., who have cared for Grace for over 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother: Jack Bawden, and a sister in infancy.
Grace graduated from Keokuk Senior High School and attended Keokuk Community College, studying business. She worked for a good many years in the Keokuk area, doing office work for local businesses. She also worked for American Republican Insurance Company in Des Moines, and as a secretary for KOKX Radio and Donald Holland for 10 years each, as well as Methode.
She belonged to Keokuk B.P.W. and bowled in her younger years at Arrowhead Bowl, Keokuk. She was a member of Hamilton United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending services and her church family. She also was a member of Keokuk Yacht Club.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Keokuk National cemetery, with Tim Etter officiating.

Beverly Brink, 79, Warsaw, Ill.
WARSAW, Ill. – Beverly J. Brink, 79, of Warsaw, Ill., passed away in the early morning hours of May 29, 2017, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
She was born May 18, 1938, in Meyer, Ill., the daughter of Laun and Helen Hartsock Brownlee.
On Feb. 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to Marvin Jr. Schafer at the Methodist church in Warsaw. He preceded her in death. On March 6, 1976, she was united in marriage to Roger A. Brink of Ursa, Ill., at the Methodist church in Hamilton, Ill.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, and four children and a granddaughter she raised. Survivors also include Sharon (Steve) Koehler of Basco, Ill.; Vickie Schafer of Warsaw; Marvin Bryant Schafer of Keokuk; Susan (Rex) Doyle of Basco; grandchildren, Shelly Trone of Basco, Edward Trone of Warsaw, Toni (Jesse) Hill of Hazelwood, Mo., Rebecca Schafer of Cedar Rapids, Eric Stephenson of Elvaston, Ill., Nicole Gray of Basco, Chad (Morgan) Schafer of Port Orange, Fla., Sydney Schafer of Keokuk, Bryant Michael (Lindsey) Doyle of Basco; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Dick (Barb) Brownlee of Joplin, Mo.; brothers-in-law, John Brink of Ursa and Robert (Sharon) Schafer of Warsaw; sister-in-law, Charlotte Symmonds of Basco; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Sarah Kimbrough, Dorthy Conover, Jean Gorden, Ida Brownlee and Joyce Mitchell; and four brothers, Kenny Gardner, Jerome Brownlee, Gordy Brownlee and Rhiney Brownlee.
She attended Warsaw schools.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Friday at First Christian Church in Keokuk.
Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor David P. Turner at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
Burial will follow in Keokuk National cemetery.

Roger 'Doc' Goetz, 89, Carthage, Ill.
CARTHAGE, Ill. – Roger Joseph “Doc” Goetz, 89, of Carthage, Ill., passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Montebello HealthCare Center in Hamilton, Ill.
He was born on Oct. 11, 1926, in Keokuk, a twin son of Sebastian Paul and Mary Alice Metternich Goetz.
He married
Patricia Sheridan, his best friend and high school girlfriend, on June 6, 1949, in Carthage. She preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 2013.
Survivors include his children, Larinda (Jack) Simmons of Jasper, Tenn., Stephen (Nancy) Goetz of Carthage and Christopher (Sharon) Goetz of Carthage; 10 grandchildren, Lori (Jeff) Rawlins, Shelly (Steve) Kirk, Jeff Simmons, Becky (Jason) Murr, Joseph Simmons, Mitchell (Jacqueline) Goetz, Meghan (Michael) Maag, Jillian Goetz, Sebastian Sheridan Goetz and Halie Goetz; 10 great-grandchildren, Corey Kirk, Alexis Kirk, Jade Simmons, Austin Rawlins, Aidan Rawlins, Jackson Simmons, Emily Murr, Brady Goetz, Alden Maag and Jack Goetz; sister, Mary Louise Ruberts of Naperville, Ill., and sister-in-law, Wanda Goetz of Omaha, Neb.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Madelyn Dadds, Robert “Bob” Goetz, twin brother Richard “Dick” Goetz, Carl “Scoot” Goetz and Donald as an infant; and daughter, Catherine Goetz Duffie.
Doc graduated from Carthage High School in 1944, where he participated in football, basketball and track.
He was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Navy, serving from 1944 to 1946.
He attended Carthage College after discharge. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Carthage, the Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of Carthage VFW Post No. 5117 and the American Legion, of which he was recently recognized as a 73-year member.
He was employed by Western Illinois Electrical Coop as line superintendent, retiring in 1989.
During his childhood, he enjoyed playing baseball with his father, swimming in the creek, playing football with his twin brother, and milking cows. He was especially close with his sister, Mary Louise. Doc enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time at the family cabin in Lake of the Oaks, St. Patrick, Mo. He enjoyed listening to music, going to church, dining out with friends and his weekly visits to the VFW. He was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame football. He especially loved every minute spent with his family.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday, with family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage. A rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Tony Trosley as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Carthage.

Marietta 'Lynn' Larkin
WALNUT, Ill. – With her love of Memorial Day, it is only appropriate that, Marietta L. “Lynn” Larkin passed away this Memorial Day on May 29, 2017.
She was born on Nov. 21, 1944, in North Platte, Neb., to Roy and Ellamae Glascock Adams.
She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1962 and then attended Central Missouri State University.
Lynn had many careers in her lifetime. She was a state award winning journalist for the Hancock County Journal Pilot, the Daily Gate City and the Pryor, Okla., Daily Times. She was parish life coordinator for St. Mark’s in Pryor and All Saints Church in Keokuk. She was Mayes County deputy clerk. She was president of the PYO Board in Pryor, Music Booster president and school board member in Warsaw, Ill., and store manager of Second Hand Prose in the Quincy Public Library in Quincy, Ill.
She married
the love of her life, Michael Richard Larkin, on Feb. 20, 1965, at St Patrick’s Church in Ottumwa. Michael survives, along with their four children, David (Carol) Larkin of Walnut, Ill., Mary Larkin of Hamilton, Ill., Joe (Jan) Larkin of St. Ann, Mo., and Erin (Brian) Stack of New Lenox, Ill.; her grandchildren, Allison and Owen Larkin of Walnut, T.J. (Breezy) Taylor of Macomb, Ill., Coltin Taylor of Hamilton, Katlyn Larkin of Riverton, Wyo., Michael Larkin of St. Ann and Colin, Declan and Ean Stack of New Lenox; two brothers, Mike (Sharon) Adams of Greensboro, N.C., and Tim (Ginny) Adams of Aberdeen, S.D.; brother-in-law? and sister-in-law, Pat and Geri Larkin of Ottumwa; Lois (Joe deceased) Larkin of Ottumwa and Beverly (Bill deceased) Larkin of Des Moines; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She loved to read and passed that love on to all her family. She loved her grandkids and enjoyed their visits and spending time with them and bragging about them. She also loved her kids and was their supporter, guide, confidant, enforcer and chief woman behind the scenes. She was loved by all and will be missed by many.
She is preceeded in death by her parents, a nephew and two brothers-in-law. She donated her body to science in hopes they can find a cure for her disease.
A memorial mass will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church in Ottumwa.

Emily Cooper
HAMILTON, Ill. – Emily June Cooper, 65, of Hamilton, Ill., formerly of Washington, Ill., passed away at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at her home in Hamilton.
She was born on July 6, 1951, in Carthage, Ill., a daughter of Floyd and Emma June Anderson Burnett.
Emily married
Larry Cooper on June 18, 1967, in Memphis, Mo. He survives in Hamilton.
Survivors include three daughters, Wendy Noble (Mitch Cleek) of Hamilton, Rebecca (Jamie) Lee of Alexandria, Mo., and Brittney (Zack) Ferdig of Hamilton; a son, David (Shari) Cooper of Germantown Hills, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl (Chris) Burnett of Tioga, Ill.; a sister, Lamona Warner of Macomb, Ill.; six nieces; seven nephews; a sister-in-law, Dona Herr of Keokuk; and many cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and foster children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Clinton Dale Tredwell; three nieces and two nephews.
Emily worked for Holiday Inn, Sunrise Poultry and Home Care. She was a founding member of Standing Bear Council. She also served as an election judge in Tazwell County, Ill., and a member of the Tsalagiyi Nvdagi Tribe. She enjoyed garage sales, Walmart, fishing and spending time with her family. Emily will be remembered for her strong will and orneryness.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday, with family meeting friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home in Hamilton.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with minister Forrest Leggett officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery in Hamilton.
