James Paar, 72, Warsaw, Ill.
WARSAW, Ill. – James David Paar, 72, of Warsaw, Ill., passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill., surrounded by family.
He was born on March 13, 1944, in Keokuk, the son of Frank and Ruth Crossland Paar.
James married
Marlyce Moffitt on Dec. 22, 1967, in Warsaw. She survives in Warsaw.
James graduated from Warsaw High School in 1962 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa Wesleyan.
He began his career as a history teacher, and later started work in the steel manufacturing industry. He held various positions, including operations manager in Keokuk, Shreveport, La., and Omaha, Neb., facilities. James retired from Keokuk Steel Castings in 2011.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Warsaw Gun Club, Blackhawk Masonic Lodge and Quincy Consistory. Some of James’ many interests included cycling, racketball, hunting and fishing. James also was a basketball coach and referee and had a passion for Cornhuskers football and Cubs baseball. He completed two RAGBRAI bicycling tours. James enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and regularly attended their sporting events.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ruth Crossland Paar; and daughter-in-law, Sally Mitchell Paar.
Survivors include a sister, Mary (Doug) Froman of Warsaw; two sons, Michael Paar of Warsaw and David (Katie) Paar of Evansville, Wis.; two daughters, Christine (Andy) Moel of Solon and Amanda (David) Krum of Warsaw; seven grandchildren, Brennan, Brayden, Brianna, Maverick, Caden, Taylor and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with family meeting friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home in Warsaw. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Warsaw, with the Rev. Sue Loper and Daniel Coldvin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland cemetery in Warsaw.
Memorials may be made to the Masons or the Warsaw Presbyterian Church.

Lewis Prewett, 78, Warsaw, Ill.
WARSAW, Ill. – Lewis W. Prewett, 78, of Warsaw, Ill., passed away at 3 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at his home, surrounded by family.
He fought a good fight, battling MDS-AML.
He was born on Feb. 3, 1938, in Jersey County, Ark., the son of James Roy and Juanita Vickers Prewett.
Lewis was united in marriage to Viola R. Barber on July 31, 1956, in Pekin, Ill. She preceded him in death on May 11, 2013.
Lewis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Friends stopped by daily to hear his stories, or to learn how to fix something. He liked to brag about fixing chainsaws and lawnmowers, which he was very good at. He enjoyed making people laugh and it was often difficult to tell if his stories were fact or fiction.
In his younger years, he worked at Stave Mills and in the timber. In the early ’80s, he started Prewett Tree Service. He told many stories of working in Hamilton with Bill Dobbins. While running his tree service, he worked second shift at Griffin Wheel in Keokuk for 21 years, until his retirement 17 years ago.
Survivors include four daughters, Debbie (Robert) Moss of Keokuk, Sharon (Roger) Thurman of Warsaw, Vickie (Brian) Holton of Memphis, Mo., and Peggy (Mark LeMaster) Day of Keokuk; two sons, Roger Prewett and Rodney Prewett, both of Warsaw; a sister, Judy (Albert) Peterson of Gorin, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Tracie Anderson, Jennifer Chaknine, Micheal Thurman, Tiffany Smith, Angie Day, Michelle Sapp, D.J. Day, Brandon Day, Amanda Dressor, Jeff Thurman, Kristina Morton, Alyson Wubben and Ashley Prewett; 27 great-grandchildren, Austin Burgess, Matt Lefler, Christopher Thurman, Zachary Thurman, Lexus Chaknine, Lucas Sapp, Julia Smith, Kobe Coop, Gabi Lefler, Blake Coop, Emma Smith, Logan Day, Maci Cochenour, Sarah Sapp, Brooklyn Chaknine, Hunter Son, Olivia Day, Fayelynn Son, Braylynn Day, Nolan Markey, Paige Morton, Jase Thurman, Kaiser Wubben, Joshua Morton, Payton Thurman, Carson Prewett and Aaliyah Day; and three great-great-grandchildren, Cali, Rylee and Dawnetta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Dick Prewett; three sisters, Bertha Stevenson, JoAnn Haas and Hazel Rauch; two brothers-in-law, Caleb Rauch and Eldon Bloyd; and his beloved dog, Buddy.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday, with family meeting with friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home in Hamilton, Ill.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Oakland cemetery in Warsaw.
Pastor Bob Payne and Hugh Ferguson will offer words of comfort.

Judith Tucker, 74, Carthage, Ill.
CARTHAGE, Ill. – Judith A. Tucker, 74, of Carthage, Ill., died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, in her home after a long illness.
Judy was born on Sept. 23, 1942, in Detroit, Mich., a daughter of Ellis E. and Henrietta Weber Leischner.
On June 9, 1968, she was united in marriage to Stanley L. Tucker at Wesley United Methodist Church at the University of Illinois in Urbana.
Judy was raised in Deland, Ill., and attended local schools there, graduating from Deland-Weldon High School in the Class of 1960. She then went on to the University of Illinois, receiving her bachelor of arts degree in 1969. It was there she met her future husband, Stanley.
She served in the Peace Corps in the Ivory Coast in Africa from 1964 to 1966.
After moving to Carthage in the late 1960s, Judy became a Girl Scout leader, serving as cookie chairman for many years. She served as a Gray Lady at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, was a proud member of the Democratic Women, served on the Carthage Library board for many years, and was a member of P.E.O. Chapter J.
Judy worked as a legal secretary for many years at her husband’s law firm, Hartzell, Tucker and Hartzell.
Judy loved her family, her daughters, grandchildren, vacationing on Hilton Head Island and her pug dogs.
Judy is survived by her husband, Stanley; two daughters, Amelia (Trey) Hirsch Zibutis of Sherman, Ill., and Beth (Gary) Hulvey of Chatham, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Madison, Jack, Tucker, Emma, Maggie, Sam and Kate; a brother, Robert (Kathy) Leischner of Champaign, Ill.; and a sister, Connie (Dan) Fidler of Gurnee, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Michael Hirsch; and a brother, Ed Leischner.
A celebration of life will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Old Bailey House, 100 S. Campbell St., Macomb, Ill. Private interment will be held at a later date in Mount Zion cemetery, Mount Zion, Ill.

Lucille Shipe, 74, Warsaw, Ill.
WARSAW, Ill. – Lucille J. Shipe, 74, of Warsaw, Ill., passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family at 1:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2016.
Lucille was born Nov. 1, 1941, the daughter of Wesley and Juanita Jones Rennaker in Canton, Mo.
She graduated from Kahoka High School in 1959.
In 1963, she was united in marriage to Clarence “Potsy” Clark. He preceded her in death in 1976. She married
Curtis Shipe in 1982. He preceded her in death in 2006.
Lucille was a member of the Warsaw Presbyterian Church, and also belonged to the Royal Neighbors. Lucille bowled on the Thursday night league for many years. She was known by all to never turn down a game of Yahtzee or cards. Her family was her greatest joy.
Lucille is survived by two daughters, Deb (Marvin) Greiner of Keota and Melody Hackett of Quincy, Ill.; six grandchildren, Derrick Koeber of Warsaw, Bronson Koeber of Hannibal, Mo., Wesley and Travis Greiner, both of Keota, Brooksany Koeber of Quincy and Tenley Ray Greiner of Keota; two great-grandchildren, Jamie and Laurel; brother, Gary (Donna) Mahler of Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Juanita (James) Shelton of Quincy, Anne “Skeet” Wilper (significant other Lowell) of Crystal Rivers, Fla., and Sarah Lewis of Kahoka; a special cousin, Pearl (Reverend Gene) Spurgeon of Arnold, Mo., whom she loved like a sister; many nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as Lucille’s faithful companion, her cat, Morgan.
The family would like to acknowledge the love and special care Lucille received from Tina Harl and April Grattan during her illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; brother, Ernest “Jr.” Rennaker; sister, Letha Davis; and aunt, Marguerite Wright, who helped raise her.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw, with burial to follow in Calvary cemetery in Carthage, Ill.
Visitation will be from noon until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

NAUVOO, Ill. – Olivia L. Ashley, 21, of Nauvoo, Ill., died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at Keokuk Area Hospital as the result of a car accident.

Stephanie Belknap, 23, Warsaw, Ill.
WARSAW, Ill. – Stephanie Elizabeth Belknap, 23, of Warsaw, Ill., passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at the Methodist Hospital in Peoria, Ill.
Stephanie was born July 14, 1993, in Keokuk, the daughter of Thomas Edward and Lynn Denise Barber Belknap.
She attended Warsaw High School, graduating in 2012.
She loved all living creatures, especially dolphins and dogs. Stephanie had a heart of gold.
Stephanie is survived by her parents, Thomas and Lynn Belknap of Warsaw; two brothers, Jeremy (Tina) Belknap of Keokuk and Shane (Shay Arcaro) Belknap of Quincy, Ill.; a niece and nephew, Layla and Leopold Belknap; her grandmother, Margaret Belknap of Rock Island; and many, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joy and Jim Barber and Willis Belknap.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, with family meeting friends from 4 to 6 p.m.

CARTHAGE, Ill. – John Wilde, 45, of Carthage, Ill., passed away at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at his home.

Randal 'Randy' Byrn, 62, Hamilton, Ill.
HAMILTON, Ill. – Randal Dale “Randy” Byrn, 62, of Hamilton, Ill., formerly of Warsaw, Ill., passed away at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
He was born on March 10, 1954, in Keokuk, the son of Vernie and Helen Jeffrey Byrn.
He had been married
to Pat McMillen of Hamilton, and Debra Kae Byrn, who preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2009. He married
Jacqueline Kline on Oct. 4, 2014, in Hamilton. She survives in Hamilton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Helen Byrn of Warsaw; sister, Lorri (Dean) Walker of Warsaw; brother-in-law, Carter Lear of Nauvoo, Ill.; daughters, Jackie (Matt) Runge of Nevada, Lacey (Adam) Dilbeck of Bloomington, Ill., and Rikke Whitaker of Normal, Ill.; sons, Jeff (Emily) Byrn of Des Moines and Jesse Whitaker of Columbus, Miss.; grandchildren, Tristen, Trinity and Tinley Runge of Nevada, Kamryn, Brasen and Elysen Byrn of Des Moines, and Elena and Ryland Dilbeck of Bloomington; and nieces and nephews, Tori Floyd, Shanda Kennedy, Chris Schulz and Nathan Schulz.
He is preceded in death by his father; his wife, Debra Byrn; and two sisters, Kathy Byrn and Terri Lear.
Randy graduated from Warsaw High School in 1972, and Black Hawk College and Western Illinois University, receiving his bachelor of education degree. Randy later earned his master of education degree. Randy taught high school English and speech at Nauvoo-Colusa, Ill., High School and Warsaw High School for more than 35 years. He also taught digital photography. He enjoyed reminiscing with former students and teachers.
When his children were young, he coached basketball and baseball. Randy enjoyed photography, history, reading and acquiring political collectibles. He spent a lot of time working on his house and his yard. He enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and NCAA college basketball. He was an avid griller and cook. His favorite place to visit was the Black Hills of South Dakota. He attended as many of his grandchildren’s events as possible. Randy was the first to offer a helping hand to family and friends. He enjoyed sharing stories and never walked away from a good debate. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakland cemetery in Warsaw.
Memorials have been established in his memory, with checks written to Jacque Byrn, or donor’s choice.
