Sam Fazio
FREEPORT -- Sam Fazio, 93, of Freeport died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Stephenson Nursing Center.
Born on July 8, 1911, in Chicago, he was the son of Peter and Lena (Giacalone) Fazio.
He was owner of Fazio Plumbing for more than 40 years, retiring in 1974. He married Mary Cardinali on Nov. 25, 1945. She died on Dec. 11, 1975, and he later married Elizabeth Cardinal on Oct. 1, 1981.
Sam served his country during WWII.
A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, he ushered at the church for 50 years. He also belonged to the Freeport Eagles Club and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Fazio of Freeport; one son, Charles (Linda) Fazio of Freeport; one brother, Arthur (Phyllis) Fazio of Freeport, one sister, Rose Ann Fazio of Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandchildren, Lisa (Todd) Brinkmeier of Pearl City, and Rick Fazio of Freeport; and three great-grandchildren, Evan Fazio, and Mitchell and Kenner Brinkmeier.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, one daughter, two brothers, and one sister.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Freeport, with Father Burt Absalon presiding.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport, and from 10 a.m. to time of Mass Saturday at the church. There will be a Scripture service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Freeport.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.

Terence O. Tolbert
FREEPORT -- Terence Oliver Tolbert was born to the union of Leroy and Wilma Tolbert on Oct. 30, 1961, in Chicago.
Terry is the second oldest child, with one older brother, Kevin Tolbert, who preceded him in death. He also has one sister, Esso Tolbert Farley and one younger brother, Phillip Robinson Jr.
Terry attended Doolittle & Luella Elementary School, and later attended Linbloom High School. Terry joined the U.S. Marines in 1979, served a 4-year term, and was honorably discharged in 1983.
He met Cynthia in 1984 and they became really good friends.
His early employment included Frank Cooney Company for several years. He later moved on to work for Sweetheart for a short period of time, and he also became a driver for S.C.R. Company, all of Chicago.
Terry decided to move to Freeport in 1999, at which time he joined in Holy Matrimony with Cynthia Ann Scott on Aug. 28, 1999, in Freeport.
Terry worked at Modern Plating for 5 years, and later, for a short period of time, for Kolb-Lena Cheese.
Terry touched many lives and was loved by everyone he came in contact with, especially the children.
He leaves to mourning his loving wife, Cynthia O. Tolbert of Freeport; two daughters, Tarmencita A. Scott of Freeport and Tiffany L. Scott of Freeport; two sons, Walter A. Scott of Chicago and Terence Tolbert Jr. of Annapolis, Md.; his mother, Wilma (Ervin) Harmon of Chicago; his father, Leroy (Barbara) Tolbert of South Bend, Ind.; two sisters, Esso (Leon) Farley of Chicago and Gennardo Tolbert of Gary, Ind.; one brother, Phillip Robinson Jr. of Chicago; three nieces, Shanel, Malaine and Brittany Tolbert of Chicago; two aunts, Mallia (Ellis) Faulkner of Chicago and Charlene (Harold) Taylor of Oakland, Calif.; four grandchildren, Di'Quan and Di'Nayja' Ishmon of Freeport and Madison and Brooke Webster of Chicago; a granddaughter of Annapolis; one grandniece and grandnephew, Alexis and Javanta of Chicago; and a host of friends and family who all love him dearly.
Terry went on to be with the Lord on Sept. 17, 2004.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from noon Wednesday to time of service at the funeral home.

Mildred Guehring
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Mildred E. Guehring, 89, of Tempe, Ariz., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, in Tempe, following a valiant fight against cancer.
She was born March 30, 1915, in Orangeville, the daughter of Charles and Kathryn Maaske.
Mildred attended primary and high school in Orangeville. After completing teacher training in Monroe and Platteville, Wis., she taught grades one through eight at the West Clarno School in Wisconsin from 1936 to 1938. on May 22, 1938, she married Eldon "Pete" Guehring.
Pete and Mildred operated a dairy farm in the Davis area for 22 years prior to moving to Lorain, Ohio, in 1960, and then to Lake Alfred, Fla., in 1972. During this period, she worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co. for 24 years, retiring in 1991.
After her husband's death in 1994, she subsequently moved to Tempe in 2001.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Dunlap of Tempe and Ann (Robert L.) Komlosi of Lorain; four grandchildren, James (Sherri) Dunlap of Chandler, Ariz., Mary (Pete Koenig) Dunlap of Yorba Linda, Calif., Candy (J.P.) Perez of Lorain and Robert E. (Rochelle) Komlosi of Lorain. There are two great-grandsons of Lorain. Mildred also is survived by two nieces, three nephews and several cousins in Illinois and Wisconsin.
Preceding her in death were her husband; her brother, Raymond Maaske; one sister-in-law, Thelma Maaske; and one nephew.
Final services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 28, at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 115 S. West St., Dakota, with the Rev. Eldon Schriver of Rockford officiating. Burial will be at Davis Cemetery in Davis.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be given to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix AZ 85014, or to a favorite charity.

Florence T. Turek
POLO -- Florence T. Turek, 89, of Polo died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at home.
She was born June 20, 1915, in Cicero, the daughter of Stanley Rogalinski and Katherine Pietrzak Rogalinski. On Sept. 11, 1936, Florence and Joseph D. Turek were married in Chicago.
Florence was a wife, mother and caregiver. She also was a lover of life.
Mr. and Mrs. Turek served as caretakers of St. Mary Catholic Church in Polo for many years.
Surviving are two daughters, Judi (Alan) Ranz of Forreston and Beverly (Henry) Cassens of Sterling; one son, Butch (Pam) Turek of Rockford; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband and two sons, Joe and Bob.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. John A. Hanrahan officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Polo.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church for Masses.
Arrangements were completed by Benson Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon, Polo.

Marvin J. Judas
MOUNT CARROLL -- Marvin John Judas, age 75, of Mount Carroll died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
Marvin was born Monday, Aug. 26, 1929, in New Rockford, N.D., the son of John and Erna (Willner) Judas. Marvin married Jeanette Endress on Feb. 13, 1955, in Massbach.
Marvin spent most of his life working on the farm. An important aspect of his life was establishing the Carroll County Senior Services Organization. Marvin was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Savanna Moose Lodge No. 1095. Marvin enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Jeanette; three daughters, Janice (Doug) Walter of Elizabeth, Dixie Meinsma of Mount Carroll and Pennie Judas of Mount Carroll; one son, Jeffrey Judas of Mount Carroll; four granddaughters and four grandsons; two great-granddaughters; one brother, Gene (Alene) Judas of Mount Carroll; and one sister, Marion Ewalt of Freeport.
Marvin is preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy; his parents; a son-in-law, Duane Meinsma, and a brother-in-law, Charles Ewalt.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Carroll with Pastor David Vidler officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mount Carroll. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mount Carroll. There also will be visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
A memorial fund has been established in Marvin's name.

Walter Baldridge
SAVANNA -- Walter Leroy Baldridge, 87, of Savanna died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Savanna Bible Church. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Law-Jones Funeral Home.
A memorial fund has been established.

Marie Brinker
LENA -- Marie Brinker of Lena died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
Arrangements are pending at Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home.

Carol J. Cain
FRANKLIN GROVE -- Carol J. Cain, 61, of Franklin Grove died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Visitation is 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.

Wilbur Corbett
SAVANNA -- Wilbur Corbett, 83, of Savanna died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.
A memorial fund has been established.
Arrangements were made at Law-Jones Funeral Home.

James Cotherman
BASALT, Colo. -- James L. Cotherman, 67, of Basalt, Colo., passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 11, 1937, to Darrell and Margaret Readeker Cotherman in Freeport, where he was a longtime resident and businessman.
James married Linda Swanson in Freeport in 1998. He was previously married to Sandra Smelzer who preceded him in death in 1970.
A veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957.
Mr. Cotherman lived in Basalt for 20 years. He belonged to several motorcycle organizations including being a life member of the AMA, AHRMA (American Historic). He enjoyed building and designing motorcycles and riding and racing them also.
Surviving James are his wife, Linda Cotherman of Basalt; sons, Steve Cotherman of Freeport and Michael Cotherman of Clearwater, Fla.; two grandchildren; and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Cotherman.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Martin Mortuary in Grand Junction, Colo.

Nila A. Furlong
GALENA -- Nila A. Furlong, 71, of Galena died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
The family requests no flowers.
Arrangements were made by Furlong Funeral Chapel.

Joanne Jensen
DIXON -- Joanne Jensen, 68, of Dixon died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at home.
A private service will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport. Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Jensen residence.
A memorial fund has been established.
Arrangements were made by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home.

Marjorie Schmidt
FREEPORT -- Marjorie H. Schmidt, 82, of Freeport died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at Stephenson Nursing Center after an extended illness.
Born June 7, 1922, in Jo Daviess County, she was the daughter of Ernest and Amanda (Winter) Koehn. Marjorie married William J. Schmidt on Jan. 3, 1943. He died Nov. 11, 1983.
Mrs. Schmidt worked for Burgess Battery for 27 years. From then until she was 80 years old, she was employed by a cleaning service.
She was a member of Embury United Methodist Church.
Marjorie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
Surviving is one daughter, Patty L. Schmidt, and one son, David W. (Kathy) Schmidt, both of Freeport; five grandchildren, John (Dawn) Wean of Crystal Lake. James (Angie) Wean and Cory, Matthew and Carley Schmidt, all of Freeport; and one great-granddaughter, Addie Wean of Lena.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Joyce; one brother, Cletus; and one great-granddaughter, Erin.
Cremation rites were accorded and private services will be held for the family only.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Centennial Lounge of Embury United Methodist Church.
Inurnment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established for Embury United Methodist Church and Freeport Memorial Hospice.

Irma I. Seidel
POLO -- Irma I. Seidel, 88, of Polo died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Polo Continental Manor.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Benson Funeral Home. Visitation is after 2:30 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established.
