Bethel E. Penticoff
FREEPORT -- Bethel E. Penticoff, 93, of Freeport, homemaker, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 1, 1911, in Cedarville, the daughter of Clinton and Laura (Clingman) Fink. On Oct. 14, 1948, Bethel and Ralph Penticoff were married in Freeport. Ralph died July 4, 1980.
Mrs. Penticoff was a member of Cedarville United Methodist Church for more than 70 years. She also was an avid Cubs fan.
Surviving family members include one son, Steven (Linda) Penticoff of South Beloit, Wis.; three grandchildren, Jon (Tammy) Penticoff of South Beloit, Chris (Keri) Penticoff and Todd (Liz) Penticoff, both of Freeport; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Logan and Kylee Penticoff.
Preceding her in death were her husband, five brothers and two sisters.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Katie Mapes officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to time of service at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
Eileen A. Polchow
FREEPORT -- Eileen A. Polchow, 80, of Freeport died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Freeport, the daughter of George and Viro Ilgen. She was married to Stanley Clark of Freeport in 1940. They later divorced. She then married Benjamin Polchow in Freeport. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1991.
She is survived her only son, Lee R. (Judith) Ilgen of Ottawa; three grandchildren, Jeff (Susan) Munz of Rockford, Erica (Jeff) Softley of Rockford and Jan David (Cindy) Buchta of Elkhart, Ind.
She also is survived by four great-grandchildren, Alex Munz, Zachary and Chandler Buchta and Brandy (Ian) Tomlinson; and three great-great-grandchildren, Isaac and Devon Tomlinson and Darien Brady.
Funeral arrangements were completed by Walker Mortuary. Burial was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
Dorothy Rennolet
ROCK ISLAND -- Dorothy Rennolet, 89, of Rock Island died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at River Park Healthcare Center in Rock Island.
Dorothy was born in Rock Island, the daughter of Oscar and Ella (Klaus) Long. In 1931, Dorothy and Edward Rennolet were married. Edward died April 4, 1969.
Dorothy worked at Servus Rubber Co. for 24 years.
Surviving family members include Dorothy (James) Vinzant Sr. of Stockton, Linda (David) Tucker of Milan and Karen Rennolet of Galesburg; five grandchildren, David Abel of Kent, Christina (Kent) Pascoe of Fenton, Mo., Emily Tucker of Milan, James (Naomi) Vinzant Jr. of Lena and Judith Vinzant of Freeport. and four great-grandchildren.
A family graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
Josephine Tucibat
SAVANNA -- Josephine C. Tucibat, 75, of Savanna died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mount Carroll.
Services will be held at noon Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Friday at Law-Jones Funeral Home.
Robert T. Barker
WARREN -- Robert T. Barker, 84, of Warren died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
He was born May 11, 1920, in Friendship, Wis., the son of Robert and Shirley Payne Barker. On June 7, 1947, Robert married Emma Arlene McCauley in Darlington, Wis.
Robert graduated from Warren High School in 1939. From 1942-46, he served in the United States Army 15th Calvary Re-Con, serving in the European theater. He attended UW Platteville, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1947. Robert was owner and operator of the Warren Greenhouse from 1947-2001.
Robert was a member of the Warren United Methodist Church, Warren American Legion Wickler-Copeland Post #464, Eastern Star #330, 50-year member of Plum River Masonic Lodge #554, and served as a member of Warren School Board from 1957-66.
Survivors include his wife Arlene; two sons, David (Sherry) Barker of Bartlett and Michael (Jan) Barker of Warren; one granddaughter; Stephanie Barker (friend, Jason Artingstall) of Carpentersville; four grandsons, Heath (fiancee, Christina Farmer) Barker of Bartlett, Lucas (fiancee, Crystal Williston) of Warren, Jase and J.T. Barker, both of Warren; one great-granddaughter, Cassie Farmer; one brother, James (Beverly) Barker of Pecatonica; and four sisters, Shirley Rowe of Surprise, Ariz., Dorothy Genthe of Platteville, Wis., Marjorie Moreland of Minneapolis and Mary (Marvin) Yenny of Savanna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Douglas; and two sisters, Margaret Kase and Nancy in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Warren United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
Burial will be at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established.
He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished.
Richard J. Burke
PECATONICA -- Richard J. Burke, age 84, of Pecatonica died at 3:45 p.m. Monday,
Dec. 13, 2004, at his home after a sudden illness.
Born Sept. 5, 1920, in Rockford, he was the son of Thomas and Ella (Murphy) Burke. He lived the past 58 years in Pecatonica, after moving from Rockford. On Jan. 9, 1943, Richard and Mary Catherine May were married at St. Peter Catholic Church in South Beloit.
Mr. Burke was employed as a salesman by Pecatonica Lumber Yard from 1946-53.
He then was manager of McGee True Value Lumber and Hardware in Winnebago for 37 years before retiring.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as corporal in Africa and Italy from 1943-45.
His memberships included St. Mary Catholic Church in Pecatonica, where he sang in the church choir for many years, Pecatonica School Board, Eugene J. Barloga American Legion Post 197 in Pecatonica and the former Germania Club in Freeport for several years.
Mr. Burke was an avid reader and loved all sports, and he especially loved following his grandsons' sporting events.
He graduated from St. Thomas High School in Rockford and attended Villanova University in Staton Island, N.Y., for three years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Catherine Burke of Pecatonica; one daughter, Kathleen (Thomas) Schleich of Freeport; one son, John (Eva) Burke of Waconia, Minn.; two grandsons, Paul and Kevin; one granddaughter, Katie (fiance, Nick); great-granddaughters, Ashley, Brittany and Caitlin; and great-grandson, Grant.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Jack.
The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Robert Sweeney, pastor, officiating. At 10 a.m. preceding Mass, a visitation will be held at the church.
Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Pecatonica.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for St. Mary Catholic Church.

Bernadine Curtiss
STOCKTON -- Bernadine Curtiss, 95, of Stockton died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Morgan Memorial Home in Stockton.
She was born May 5, 1909, in Sullivan, the daughter of Bliss and Grace (Baker) Shuman.
She graduated from Sullivan High School and the University of Illinois, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society.
On Sept. 29, 1928, Bernadine married Homer Curtiss, and they lived on the Curtiss farm until his death on April 30, 1972.
She was a mother of five children, George (Carol) Curtiss of Urbana, Robert (Marjorie) Curtiss of Fairbury, Margaret (Mrs. C.W. Beile) of Wheaton, Richard (Donna) Curtiss of Stockton and Cynthia (Mrs. S.W. Wise) of Tallahassee, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Stockton.
According to her request there was immediate cremation, with no services and no memorials.
Roscoe J. Haas
FREEPORT -- Roscoe J. Haas, 84, of Freeport died Nov. 17, 2004, at home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church.
A memorial fund has been established.

MOUNT CARROLL -- Betty L. Lartz, 77, of Mount Carroll died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

John E. Liphart
NECEDAH, Wis. -- John E. Liphart, 74, of Necedah, Wis., died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston, Wis.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Necedah United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Torkelson Necedah Family Funeral Home.

MADISON, Wis. -- Anthony Van Natta, 55, of Madison, Wis., formerly of Galena, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Madison.
Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Judith L. Ackerman
FREEPORT -- Judith "Jude" Lynn Ackerman, 62, of Freeport died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport.
She was born March 1, 1942, in Peoria, the daughter of William and Jean (Antrim) Grover. She married William C. Ackerman on Feb. 12, 1972, in Freeport.
Since 1985, she was employed in the Highland Community College Adult Education/Even Start programs. She was a financial and systems specialist and worked at several Freeport banks as a secretary and receptionist. She also worked for L.S. Lannon & Co. property management. She worked on the development of the Stephenson Hotel property. She and her husband owned Ackerman Management & Consultant Co. from 1980-2001.
A member of First United Methodist Church, she had been a Sunday school teacher and usher.
Surviving are her husband, William C. Ackerman of Freeport; her parents, William and Jean Grover of Freeport; two sons, Daniel (Angie) Ackerman of East Bethel, Minn., and Michael Ackerman of Freeport; one daughter, Kelly (Chris) Herbig of Pecatonica; special friends, Sandra and Lynn Feaver of Freeport; one sister, Jean (Sam) Maggio of Rockford; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Barbara Reese of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces, Jody (Juan) Licon of Rockford, Melissa (Craig) Hurley of Tampa, Fla., Michelle (Tony) Clair of Council Bluffs; one nephew, Sam (Jenny) Maggio of Paxton; and four grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin, Christopher and Thomas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Freeport, with the Rev. Alka Lyall, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport.
Memorial funds are established for First United Methodist Church, Highland Community College and Leonard C. Ferguson Cancer Center.
Arley E. Flickinger
PEARL CITY -- Arley E. Flickinger, 103, of Pearl City died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at the Lena Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 23, 1901, in Willow, the daughter of William and Ada (Polhill) Snyder. She married William Flickinger on Dec. 20, 1922, in Dubuque, Iowa. He died Nov. 4, 1978.
Arley was an 82-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Pearl City. She had farmed with her husband near Pearl City and loved farming and tending to animals.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Nelson of Pearl City, grandson, Jerry Nelson of Freeport; two great-grandchildren, Stacy Nelson of Freeport, and Kimberly (Andrew) Keil of Cedar Falls, Iowa; three great-great-grandchildren, Nathan and Jamie Lamb of Freeport, and Lorun Keil of Cedar Falls; and special neighbors, Bill and Louise Kloepping.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Nelda Bonnell and Grace Penticoff.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hermann Funeral Home, Pearl City. Burial will be in Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gareth Heinz
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Gareth Quinn Nathan "Boo Boo" Heinz, 3-year-old son of Thad and Amy Fox Heinz, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C.
He is survived by his parents, Thad and Amy Fox Heinz of Jacksonville; paternal grandparents, Phil and Laurie Heinz of Ridott; maternal grandparents, Jack and Renee Fox of Cliffside, N.C.; maternal great-grandmothers, Hazel Huskey of Cliffside, N.C., and Mabel Fox of Shelby, N.C.
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home, Jacksonville, with Reinherd Heinz officiating.
Visitation will follow the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Arlene K. Leif
STOCKTON -- Arlene K. Leif, 87, of Stockton, formerly of Kent, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport.
Born July 29, 1917, in Rock Island, she was the daughter of Julius and Elsie (Kaskadden) DePaepe. She married Alfred S. Leif on Oct. 19, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. Alfred passed away on May 26, 1996.
A homemaker, Arlene farmed with her husband in the Elizabeth and Kent areas until retiring in 1980. She loved to tend to her flower and vegetable gardens. Other hobbies included cooking, sewing, crocheting and reading.
Surviving are five sons, Donald Leif of Pecatonica, John (Jackie) Leif of Pearl City, James (Dorothy) Vinzant of Stockton, Jack (Yolie) Vinzant of San Antonio, Texas, and Kenneth (Betty) Vinzant of Indianapolis, Ind.; four daughters, Jane (Roger) Hill of Kent, Jackie (Thomas) Wibben of Durand, Marjorie Oppold and fiance, Brian Musser of Kent, and Pamela Leif of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 31 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Wayne Leif; one daughter, Jean Thompson; and one sister, Joyce Speckhart.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Leamon Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Lena. Burial will be in Morseville Cemetery, Stockton.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
