FREEPORT -- Susan M. Michael, 60, of Freeport died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 18, 1944, in Spokane, Wash.
Susan was a former employee of C.J. Vitner Co.
Surviving are one son, William (Delores) Tate of Freeport; one daughter, Patricia (James) Harder of Monroe, Wis.; six grandchildren; her mother, Margery Proctor of Newport, Wash.; and nine brothers and sisters.
A private funeral service is planned.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Schwarz Funeral Home, Freeport.

Elwyn J. Rupnow
DAKOTA -- Elwyn J. "Al" Rupnow, 81, of rural Dakota died early Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at his home.
He was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Green County, Wis., the son of Emil F. and Mary E. (Meythaler) Rupnow. On June 19, 1943, he married Betty Neuschwander in Freeport. She died March 5, 1961. On Sept. 6, 1964, he married Evelyn (Kaderly) DeHaven at Dakota.
He farmed for many years in the Rock City and Dakota areas. "Al" also worked for the Rock Grove and Dakota Townships and the Stephenson County Highway Department.
Elwyn was a member of Indian Grove County Church in Rock City, Stephenson County Beef and Pork Producers Association, and was a former member of the Dakota Volunteer Fire Department.
He loved his family, gardening and watching high school sports.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; five sons, Richard (Gladys) Rupnow of Valparaiso, Ind., Jim (Susan) Rupnow of Wausau, Wis., Gary (Joan) Rupnow of Prole, Iowa, Ken (Nancy) Rupnow of Stillman Valley, and Ron (Rene) DeHaven of Orangeville; three daughters, Ruth Barr of Dakota, Marjorie (Kim) Cherrey of Monroe, Wis., and Tari (Vern) Jones of Rock City; 27 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nathan (Betty) Rupnow of Lena, and Ervin (Marge) Rupnow of Hazel Green, Wis.; one sister, Ramona C. Rupnow of Waukegan; one sister-in-law, Lois Rupnow of Monroe; two daughters-in-law, Maryann (John) Trimble of Dakota, and Joyce (Mike) Wymer of Rock City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty; one son, Richard DeHaven; one daughter-in-law, Susan Rupnow; two sons-in-law, LeRoy Homan and Leslie Barr; and one brother, Virgil Rupnow.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 115 S. West St., Dakota. His grandson, Rev. Steve Barr, pastor of Evangelical Full Gospel Church, Freeport, will officiate. Burial will be in Dakota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Grace Engelbarts
FORRESTON -- Grace M. Engelbarts, 74, of Forreston died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at her home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Baileyville Reformed Church. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Forreston.
A memorial fund has been established.

Robert D. Reid
CHAMPAIGN -- Robert D. Reid, 64, of Champaign, formerly of Freeport, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy.

Judith L. Ackerman
FREEPORT -- Judith "Jude" Lynn Ackerman, 62, of Freeport died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport.
She was born March 1, 1942, in Peoria, the daughter of William and Jean (Antrim) Grover. She married William C. Ackerman on Feb. 12, 1972, in Freeport.
Since 1985, she was employed in the Highland Community College Adult Education/Even Start programs. She was a financial and systems specialist and worked at several Freeport banks as a secretary and receptionist. She also worked for L.S. Lannon & Co. property management. She worked on the development of the Stephenson Hotel property. She and her husband owned Ackerman Management & Consultant Co. from 1980-2001.
A member of First United Methodist Church, she had been a Sunday school teacher and usher.
Surviving are her husband, William C. Ackerman of Freeport; her parents, William and Jean Grover of Freeport; two sons, Daniel (Angie) Ackerman of East Bethel, Minn., and Michael Ackerman of Freeport; one daughter, Kelly (Chris) Herbig of Pecatonica; special friends, Sandra and Lynn Feaver of Freeport; one sister, Jean (Sam) Maggio of Rockford; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Barbara Reese of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces, Jody (Juan) Licon of Rockford, Melissa (Craig) Hurley of Tampa, Fla., Michelle (Tony) Clair of Council Bluffs; one nephew, Sam (Jenny) Maggio of Paxton; and four grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin, Christopher and Thomas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Freeport, with the Rev. Alka Lyall, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport.
Memorial funds are established for First United Methodist Church, Highland Community College and Leonard C. Ferguson Cancer Center.

Arley E. Flickinger
PEARL CITY -- Arley E. Flickinger, 103, of Pearl City died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at the Lena Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 23, 1901, in Willow, the daughter of William and Ada (Polhill) Snyder. She married William Flickinger on Dec. 20, 1922, in Dubuque, Iowa. He died Nov. 4, 1978.
Arley was an 82-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Pearl City. She had farmed with her husband near Pearl City and loved farming and tending to animals.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Nelson of Pearl City, grandson, Jerry Nelson of Freeport; two great-grandchildren, Stacy Nelson of Freeport, and Kimberly (Andrew) Keil of Cedar Falls, Iowa; three great-great-grandchildren, Nathan and Jamie Lamb of Freeport, and Lorun Keil of Cedar Falls; and special neighbors, Bill and Louise Kloepping.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Nelda Bonnell and Grace Penticoff.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hermann Funeral Home, Pearl City. Burial will be in Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gareth Heinz
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Gareth Quinn Nathan "Boo Boo" Heinz, 3-year-old son of Thad and Amy Fox Heinz, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C.
He is survived by his parents, Thad and Amy Fox Heinz of Jacksonville; paternal grandparents, Phil and Laurie Heinz of Ridott; maternal grandparents, Jack and Renee Fox of Cliffside, N.C.; maternal great-grandmothers, Hazel Huskey of Cliffside, N.C., and Mabel Fox of Shelby, N.C.
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home, Jacksonville, with Reinherd Heinz officiating.
Visitation will follow the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Arlene K. Leif
STOCKTON -- Arlene K. Leif, 87, of Stockton, formerly of Kent, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport.
Born July 29, 1917, in Rock Island, she was the daughter of Julius and Elsie (Kaskadden) DePaepe. She married Alfred S. Leif on Oct. 19, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. Alfred passed away on May 26, 1996.
A homemaker, Arlene farmed with her husband in the Elizabeth and Kent areas until retiring in 1980. She loved to tend to her flower and vegetable gardens. Other hobbies included cooking, sewing, crocheting and reading.
Surviving are five sons, Donald Leif of Pecatonica, John (Jackie) Leif of Pearl City, James (Dorothy) Vinzant of Stockton, Jack (Yolie) Vinzant of San Antonio, Texas, and Kenneth (Betty) Vinzant of Indianapolis, Ind.; four daughters, Jane (Roger) Hill of Kent, Jackie (Thomas) Wibben of Durand, Marjorie Oppold and fiance, Brian Musser of Kent, and Pamela Leif of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 31 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Wayne Leif; one daughter, Jean Thompson; and one sister, Joyce Speckhart.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Leamon Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Lena. Burial will be in Morseville Cemetery, Stockton.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.

FREEPORT - Pauline Busch, 76, of Freeport died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Fern Tielkemeier
PECATONICA - Fern G. Tielkemeier, 89, of Pecatonica died Tuesday morning, Dec. 28, 2004, in Medina Nursing Center, Durand, after a long illness.
Born June 6, 1915, in Spring Grove, Wis., she was the daughter of Frank and Ora (Dreakey) Ashenfelter. She lived in Pecatonica for 66 years, coming there from Davis. Fern attended Davis High School. She was married to Fred J. Tielkemeier on Sept. 1, 1931, in Epplyanna. She and her husband were owner/operators of the Standard Oil route, where she served as bookkeeper for 30 years.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she was on the church council and served as assistant treasurer for several years. She was a member of the 8-year quilting group for homeless people in Rockford.
She loved her vegetable gardening, bowling, and playing golf, but most of all she enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the summertime, she enjoyed her cabin in Minnesota..
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Tielkemeier; one son, Marsden (Karen) Tielkemeier of Pecatonica; three grandchildren, Leanne (Gregg) Ebens of Custer, Wis., Matthew (Patty) Tielkemeier of Key West, Fla., and Kristine (Joseph) Pottratz of Stevens Point, Wis.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandparents.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Pecatonica, with the Rev. Bob Saunders, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pecatonica Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Kenneth L. Countryman Funeral Home, 529 Washington St., Pecatonica. Memorial funds have been established for First Congregational United Church of Christ, Pecatonica, and the Pecatonica Lions Club.

Gene L. Wear
SHULLSBURG, Wis. - Gene L. Wear, 77, of Shullsburg, Wis. died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Finley Hospital, Dubuque, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Furlong Funeral Home, Shullsburg.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Doris J. Beirau
FREEPORT - Doris J. Beirau, 93, of Durand, formerly of Freeport, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Medina Nursing Center in Durand.
Born on Jan. 19, 1911, in Freeport, she was the daughter of Otto and Johanna (Fechter) Beirau.
She was a legal secretary for Furst McNess for 47 years, retiring in 1976. After retirement, she worked for the United Way. Doris was a lifetime member of St. John United Church of Christ. She was a volunteer for the FHN Memorial Hospital.
Surviving is one nephew, Rodney (Gloria) Genant of Gilbert, Ariz.; five nieces, Jackie (James) Herron of Mifflinburg, Penn., Wendy (Dwayne) Dummer of Cameron, Wis., Holly Genant of Freeport, Carol (Bob) Kolthoff of Machesney Park, and Cindy Becke of Orangeville; several great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Bernard Beirau; three sisters, Martha Binkley, Erna Immig and Alfreida Genant; and one niece, Margie Luecke.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John United Church of Christ with the Rev. Donnley Dutcher officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established for St. John United Church of Christ.

Rev. William McKinstra
FREEPORT - Rev. William Michael McKinstra, 73, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, in Provena Cor Mariae Center. He was born Feb. 16, 1931, the son of Mary (Kelly) and John C. McKinstra.
Mike was a 1949 graduate of Aquin High School, Freeport and a 1953 graduate of Notre Dame University. He served two years in the US Army before returning to Notre Dame for advanced studies. He completed seminary education at St. Meinrad, Indiana and was ordained in May 1962 by Bishop Loras Lane. During his years of ministry he served as assistant at St. James and St. Patrick, Rockford, St. Mary, Woodstock and chaplain at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Then followed pastoral service at St. Elizabeth Seton, Crystal Lake and St. Anne, Dixon. His last prostrate was at St. Catherine of Sienna, Dundee until his retirement in 2000.
He is survived by his sister, Maureen (Robert) Cramer, Hanover, Mass.; sister-in-law, Lucille McKinstra, Freeport; eight nieces and nephews and brother priests of the Rockford Diocese. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, John.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. James Catholic Church, with The Most Reverend Thomas G. Doran, D.D., J.C.D., Bishop of Rockford, Celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Freeport. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church.
